Spending some time caching around the NSW/ACT southern tablelands with lots of side trips. TFTC. A long trekking day in Goorooyaroo Nature Reserve collecting puzzle caches. Lots up up and down hills. Noticed roo callings were happening as I walked out. Didn't take a ladder so so crazy tree climbs.Finished the day with a CITO and dinner event. Excellent. Nice spot. Log was saturated so added a new sheet.
Had to do a bit of wandering around as the GPS on my phone is currently being uncooperative, but I eventually spotted it from the corner of my eye. As mentioned by the previous loggers, this cache is wet inside and needs maintenance. TFTC!
Day:
After many moons of solving Gooyooyarroo puzzles, I decided that I had finally found enough to justify a trip to the Goo. With that being said, there is still many caches I need to grab, and there are still many to solve. A seven hour trip of 40km with 1km of elevation gain to grab 41 caches, a good haul for the day. Now my legs really hurt. TFTC to all cache owners.
Cache:
A quick find in a nice spot. Log isn't signable though so pic attached.

I wish I’d checked the previous logs on this one before heading out here this morning. As previously advised, the cache and log are saturated so was unable to sign and didn’t have any replacement paper on me today. TFTC!
Greetings from Tasmania, arrival here canberra in the morning, ALL7 take me to
CITO event for few mins, then after that we ahead to some caches..

A lovely location to visit on our walk through the Goorooyarroo Reserve.
The container was safe, however the log book is very wet.
We have signed the log but suspect he’ll need some maintenance very soon.

Sixth find on our journey through Goorooyarroo, although only the second trad of the day. mysteries were the focus today. Unfortunately, the logbook was mushy and unsignable. Thanks crazy.clown12 for the hide .

Found on a huge invasion of Goorooyaroo today with sebass19. I got the Mulligans Flat CCT caches years ago but left all the Goorooyarroo ones for a big day long into the future. Today was that day, we started early and worked our way north to the point where I finished the Mulligans Flat caches before heading back to the car with some extra finds on the way back. All up, a 6hr walk, our legs were very sore by the end and we had run out of water but the journey was definitely worth the effort. This one was a bit of a detour off the main path. We were quite puffed from our walk at this point and the journey to this one felt much harder than it would've been had we done it at the start of the day! Quick find. Nice hide, however the cache had some water in it and the log is completely saturated and needs attention. TNLNSL. TFTC crazy.clown12!
After finding a nearby puzzle cache I made my way back to the track and towards this cache. Spotted the cache from some distance away and continued my approach. The container had taken on quite a bit of water and the logbook is almost cactus. I did manage to prize a page open to log but suggest it needs replacing. Cheers crazy clown12!

Out for a little caching on my four hour window for adventure! Lockdown has bought a totally different approach to caching with the introduction of homework! Much time for homework in fact. Therefore many more puzzles solved, both as a solo and collective effort. Thanks to my fellow geo buddies for assistance when needed.
And in between were a few traditionals, though not nearly as many of them left these days
Logs all in good condition unless otherwise noted.
Thanks to crazy.clown12 for putting out and maintaining all of these caches for our enjoyment!

Fitzy_1965 and I headed into Canberra early today to meet up with others so we could finish off the L & P series and pick up any others in between.
Our group consisted of fitzy_1965, albida33, cosmonaut97, Joolay, kittykatch, isopeda, barb2e, Aykayem, Aquilus1, GreyHams, tankengine, dty73, Flintstones and me. We signed as Capital Crunchers for most of the day or individually if the majority had already found a side cache.
The day started out chilly but soon turned into a nice day for a walk….not too hot and not too cold. We covered over 14kms in the end and carrying a ladder was made easier by the use of a trolley (thanks KK).
All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise stated.
Log was a bit wet today.

Found on a good walkcttt he rough Gooyooyaroo today. Log book is wet and starting to go mouldy. Container is intact but held water. TFTC
A lovely cycle today on my Trusty Steed through the southern half of Goorooyaroo, starting at the Horse Park gate and passing through the predator- and geocacher-proof electrified fence.
The fence is annoying (it's been added since my last trip here years ago) - I'm unsure where the though-fence access points to the eastern part of the reserve are, so I'll have to head back to pick up the 5-6 hilltop caches that were on the wrong side of the fence (not climbing this one!).
Wore my reptile-disauding boots, which looked odd while cycling but put my mind a little at ease when pushing through 1m-high grass to some of the caches. Saw no slithering reptiles despite the warm day.
This cache was a straightforward find at GZ - thank you crazy.clown12.
Unfortunately the log is very wet, and while I was able to sign it with a felt-tipped pen it really will need to be replaced.

Found on an exploratory MTB & bushwalk around Sammy's Hill, Old Joe & Mulligans.
The cache was wet with one log being soaked, the other damp in the bag.

Found this cache today with a group of Canberrans :> We signed the logs as Capital Cachers or CC. It was a good day and even though we didn't pickup all of the ones we had previously identified as wanting to get, we did pick up some others so most people were still happy with the find count. Done and done. TFTC. Nice walk across whilst CC waited at the gate.
Today I joined a group of 10 people for an extended walk in the goo to visit the ZQX and other caches towards the rear of the reserve. These were mostly mystery caches that I have been avoiding visiting for a long time due to the hills involved. The puzzles themselves were mostly worked out a few years ago. I actually missed a chance to go for them back then before the new fence went in due to work. Today it was a freezing cold day with a viscous wind in exposed areas. To make the trip more of a challenge, we carted the ladder the whole 12km hike, but it was well used. We managed a find on all the caches despite struggling with a few. Today all the logs were signed with 'Capital Crunchers' to reduce space used in the logs.
Thanks for the cache crazy.clown12

Found as part of Capital Crunchers on a long walk and climb finding puzzles that we have solved plus a few others on the way. Tftc
Out caching with a great group of friends. We have a plan to conquer many of the caches in Goorooyarroo . The rain has gone but it is a wicked wind. Thanks for your company Capital Crunchers and thanks to the COs.
Decided to punish ourselves with some good old Goorooyaroo hill climbs today and pick up some long-solved puzzles along the way
Been looking to get this one for awhile, is the only gap in the Smileys around here. A beautiful day so I decided to leave work and track over old Joe up the state way down in the sunset the more gentle way.
Saw this from about 300 m away and used it as a marker to get myself closer to the case. 10 m out also I realised it was the case!

Picked this one up on the way back from a day to work on tree climbs but smoke covered everything and that made it a bit more difficult. The TOTT of the trade was a great addition but gee it got heavy. We did all take turns carrying such a valuable and useful piece of equipment. Signed Cap C for Capital Crunchers. The team was made up of myself, DTY73, Kittykatch, Aquilus1, Tankengine, DSD and GreyHams Great day indeed. TFTC crazy.clown12
Picked up on the way back out of the Goo after a great morning collecting tree climb caches. Great to be out with the Cspital Cachers.

So, there was planned a tree climbing day out in the Goo.... suits me fine, despite it being an awful day for it.
I took turns carrying the ladder and holding it steady. My other major contribution was to find out where the puzzle was out here that required a tree climb. I could see the in immediately but after that it got hard.
Nice quick one on the way out

Second big day of caching around Canberra. Not so much hills today, so a lot more caches. Still walked more then 20 km in total, a pushbike would have been handy here and there! Weather was good and dry till I finished and almost ideal for caching, except for the cold start in the morning. All caches were found easily and were in good condition, thanks to all the owners for putting them out there. The trail here is just as good for walking as bike riding!

Out on a Saturday caching through Goorooyahroo nature reserve. Beautiful Canberra winters day in perfect conditions for a long days walking. TFTC. Epic
We do so love a Challenge cache, and so even before we arrived in Australia we had been looking forward to coming to find the Challenge caches in this area, and so this afternoon we hiked along another section of the Centenary Trail, caching our way towards our main targets. Once we had found the two furthest away Challenge caches (this being one of them) we set off towards the Trig Point with the idea of hiking a geocaching circuit. It would have been a good plan but we were thwarted by a very tall electric ️ fence (the other fences we climbed over), where at one point the only way through to the side we needed to be on was by crawling under the fence via a gated culvert. Due to the electric fence we had to skip a couple of the caches we had hoped to find on the way back down, but at least we did find a way in to access the last of the four Challenge caches of the area. All in all it was a very successful afternoons hike, albeit definitely made harder than expected due to the anti-geocaching fence! This was the cache we had to crawl through a culvert to reach having come down from the trig point at the top of the hill. The cache was spotted on approaching Ground Zero as it was catching the late afternoon sunlight. We signed the log book and then replaced as found. Thanks so much for the cache and greetings from Zimbabwe
The nineteenth find of the day. Today was the day to find the remaining ZQX caches that I had not yet found. I messaged Loci612 and asked if he'd be up for a bit of a hike to pick up some puzzles nearby. He was keen so we made a plan to meet up early and head out in search of these geocaches. It was a perfect day for it, and it was awesome to get my 4000th find today! All the caches were very enjoyable, especially the tree climbs. All the puzzles were solved quite some time ago, except for a couple of more recent ones that I smashed out in the last week or so. Gotta say, I've always loved ZQX puzzles! Grabbed a couple of other ones along the way to help clean up the area. Thanks to all the COs whose caches I found today!
In search of 32 more caches before Wednesday so I can log my 5000th find, and Cankid who was also in need of a few more for his 4000th before we attempt to break our most finds record on Thursday!!
So we decided to team up for a day of walking around the Goo and also a side trip to Mount Majura for some puzzle finds and whatever else came our way! Starting nice and early at 7:15am, it was extremely cold and frosty, wearing 4 layers! The sun soon came out though and the day warmed up and the layers were slowly stripped off!
We had an awesome day out in the reserve, every cache we searched for was located fairly quickly and there were also numerous tree climbs which we both enjoyed taking turns at retrieving and replacing the logbook!
We got distracted a few times by deep conversations, and at one point didn't feel like backtracking several hundred metres to find a gate. So I took one for the team and confirmed that the power to the electric fence has not yet been turned on, so jumping it saved some extra leg work Not recommended however, planning around the new fences seems to be a new layer of difficulty!
Thanks for all the caches and puzzles today! Was a great day for it and plenty of fun was had.

JohnnyBoyACT and I went in search of geocaches in Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve today. The skies were clear and sunny, the wind gentle and the company good, which is just as well for the predator-proof fence currently under construction is starting to resemble a geocacher-proof fence and added some kilometres to the day. In the end, footsore and muscle weary, I had added 34 caches to my tally. This cache was a straightforward find. Thank you crazy.clown12 for installing and maintaining this cache.
Note for subsequent visitors: Thus cache is within the fence. If approaching from Old Joe as we did, use the gate in the predator-proof fence at S35 12.025 E149 11.231.

An excellent day's caching led by Kambahkid. 15 the total for me, as I'd done a few before. Agree with his comments about the geocacher-proof fence. I'm trying to obtain a gpx file of the perimeter and gate locations to share. TFTC.

#8136 - 14:15; About two years or so back, a large number of mystery caches started to appear around 'The Goo'. Having visited the area on a number of occasions, our intrepid band made a strategic decision to wait until the 'spawning' of these caches had slowed down a bit and we had managed to solve enough of them to make a visit worthwhile, particularly if it involved visiting the hilly bits again! We aren't getting any younger you know Well I enjoyed many of the puzzles, word puzzles, number puzzles, ciphers, the list goes on. Some were straight forward, some were not. Some made my brain hurt and some were a real group effort when the pain got too much!
Anyway, late last week fitzy_1965 fired the starters gun and today we headed out with Sol de lune to collect as many of the solved caches on our 'to do' list as time and stamina permitted. That worked out to be 30 caches all up, including a couple of trads we grabbed as we were passing, over six hours of trekking up hill and down dale and on a couple of occasions, up tree! The day started out quite foggy when we set off, but cleared nicely and we even got to enjoy a pleasant breeze later in the day when we needed it.
For me, the day's effort also helps to reduce my close to home list quite a bit, so nice to have this one in the bag now. Murphy was with us for this one as we encountered the new predator proof fence between us and this cache. Managed to climb over the new fence at a low spot over a culvert, but had we turned left instead of right, would have found the gate much closer to the cache than where we had crossed. TFTC crazy.clown12

A lovely Saturday afternoon for geocaching and a good chance to knock off pretty much the last of my unfound caches in Goorooyaroo.
The new predator proof fence creates a new dimension to wandering the hills in here. I chose a route that bypassed the fence but added in a totally unnecessary hill. Oh well, it's nice up here. I did find myself on the wrong side of the fence later, but found an opening that I assume is a yet-to-be-completed gate. Gazing up at Old Joe, I was glad to have already cached up there and saved myself the other half of the hike. TFTC

This was found on a day out with Touchstone7. Some of the caches she'd already found, some were new to her too. I've been slack in logging the caches, but thought I should finally log them given it's 3/4 way through 2018. The views from the hills were amazing, and today we saw a fire from (we think) Mitchell.
This one she'd found previously found, so she stood around watching me find it. Thanks for the cache and the walk.

With dty73 we had a very early morning start to see about the CCT from Horsepark drive through to Mulligans with many side trips for other caches along the way. Started out to be a very cold morning not getting much better with the strong and cold wind through most of the day. TFTC, all was found OK here today. We had been following along the cct and branched off to come find this cache along the way. Thank you for not putting this up the hill!
Aquilus1 and I decided to finish the last of the CCT Trail we had left. And decided to pick this one up along the way.

A plan was hatched during the week for a geotour around the Goo to collect the puzzles which had been piling up. The weather played along and at "not too early" o'clock, FFLL no 1, Rapidlywild and Flickorous met up with Fox in Jox in the car park and the journey began.

In company with FurfacesLL #1, Fox in Jox and Flickorus; plans were made to meet in the parking area and set off on foot. ~13km later, we returned to the geomobile pretty worn out. It was perfect caching weather today, sun was out, temp was low and the wind non existant. Thanks to all who came alone, a great day out in the Goo

Lovely Canberra winters' day, this was a good walk in the nature reserve.
Had a chat with a park ranger about the kangaroo enclosure with kangaroos on both sides of the fence.[?]
Apparently it was an ANU study of the grazing pressure that different population density of kangaroos has on the vegetation.

It feels like ages since we’ve done a nice long caching run, so we headed out to Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve to find some of the Canberra Centenary Trail caches. We had to leave The Woofer at home, which is a shame - she would have loved wandering the track with us! We found 38 of 38 in just over 4 hours - even made it to the border of NSW. Not a bad effort! We had a great morning, and left goodies behind wherever possible.
Towards the end of our walk, we were glad this one was a nice quick find. TFTC!

Spot on coordinates. I needed to make a CO visit to a couple of my Majura Cycleway caches and while in the area, looked for a cache nearby. This one gave me a nice walk. I dropped off the TB 'I Still Call Westralia Home!', although there was barely room for it. I picked up the TB in Norway and brought it to Australia. TFTC crazy.clown12.

After two geocaching plans fell through today (one of them my fault for thinking biking in the Goo at 0 degrees in fog was a good idea) I decided to take matters into my own hands and do some walking in the Goo instead. The plan is six caches - lets see how I go!
1st cache of the afternoon, quick find at GZ and a sunny spot selected to log it.

After noticing that a few new caches had sprung up in Goorooyarroo and Mulligans Flat decided to come back and complete the area. TFTC.

A lovely day for a bike ride. After completing the CCT S2, I then cleaned up the Hoovers caches in the way back to the car. Cache easily found. TFTC.

#2312 I was feeling a bit under the weather today, so I thought a jaunt in the countryside might do the trick. Conditions were cool & still as I made my way though kangaroos to gz. I'm well familiar with this area as my second cache is nearby. Today there was a shingle-back lizard nearby.

I've ridden up this before, but kept on the main line (towards old Joe), and not towards the tower.
I figured, going by the imagery, that I'd be finding the ususal supermassive bisons that Crazy Clown loves to put down (and yes, they are awesome).
As I was right. Last finder didn't screw the lid on properly, so it was a bit hard to get off. But I got there in the end.
TFTC!

*FTF* at 7:53am. Another one for umming and aahing before we decided that we needed a walk anyway so up and away we went. A lot of traffic on the road up to the reserve even at this early hour. With temperature below freezing I was soon wishing that I remembered to bring my gloves along; however, it was a very pleasant walk up to GZ where the cache was soon in hand and we admired the view while signing the log. As we were leaving we spied Tankengine heading for the cache. A subsequent discussion with Tankengine confirmed that the notification system was a little wayward at present. Thanks for getting us out of bed crazy.clown12, it is great once you are up and out. Picked up a trackable.
After finding a cache at the West Belconnen Pond, I decided to come and find this one! At the car park I saw a 4WD, and wondered whether there were other cachers here. Turns out there was! I spied this cache from about 50m away, as it was catching the sun nicely, and stood out like a bauble on a Christmas tree! Signed log, returned to my bike, and then ran into mnjontour just as I got back onto the main track. Had a quick chat with them, and thought they had just come back from Hoovers Heros. But I continued up to there anyway. For once the uphill sections of the track were better than the down. Downhill, the windchill at -4° was painful! Thanks CC12.
