While in the area attending Australian MTBO event. Great area. Thanks for showing me this area.
Great hide! Only way I found the cyanide tanks which is a double bonus! Would never have come this far in without the cache.
Found this cache today after leaving Rushworth. This area is now a haven for dirt bikes and some 4WD. The cache was quickly found and i stamped my name in the log. TFTC Robmc
Another very interesting area to explore! This is the stuff we love finding! It's great seeing these relics left over from the days of digging for gold. The tanks are still in good condition despite the age.Unfortunately no gold was found but Mrs ILT did find two beautiful little crystals on the ground. Thanks again Robmc for highlighting these amazing areas and another fav point heading your way.
Camping weekend with day1976, I do love the old mining areas! Strange things out here in the bush. I got a rash further along in the day, and day1976 blamed the tanks since i was the only one who actually went into one haha
This is one of many geocaches that I have found over the last 12 months, but have not got around to logging. Sorry for the generic log. Just catching up now.
Quick find with Bogonghazy on our way home from a week away. Thanks for placing the geocache
Quick find with LittleBoss2 while heading back to Bendigo. Thanks again Rob, great info and coords
Nice and easy find. Kids are loving learning about all these mining things in the area
Spending the weekend around Rushworth to get away from the crappy Melbourne weather, so of course a few caches are on the cards. What a great area to discover. TFTC
A great little piece of local history and your description made it even more interesting. TFTC.
Very different spot for a SUV but if we had a 4X4 would have had some fun after finding it thank you for the experience
thankyou for bringing is here. been coming to the Balaklava mine since I was a kid, but never here
Thanks for the cache. Not sure whether my Mrs is more interested in the cache...the historic cyanide tanks..or the delicious pie from the Travel Buddy
Quick find whilst out competing in the area for 4WD Events Navigational Challenge. Great spot to check off tftc!
Went away for my birthday weekend to the rushworth area in the forest.
Grabbed a heap of caches in the area over the weekend and left a trackable in one of them.

Another lovely walk and find. TfTC. Little Miss 2 approved of the find and was proud and punch.
Another interesting gold mining relic, it always amazes me how much effort has gone into finding the precious metal.
A nice short stretch of the legs in the beautiful Box Iron Bark Forests of Whroo.
We quickly found the cache and enjoyed the birds and serenity.

Making the most of Holidays and being able to travel. I decided on a 4 day trip that seen me head up to Swan Hill then down via Lake Boga, Kerang, Koondrook, Cohuna, Leitchville, Mt Terrick Terrick NP, Corop, Colbinabbim Rushworth, Whroo and finally Nagambie (then back home to St.Arnaud). Lots of back tracks taken and lots of dust to clean out of the ute. It was over 1250km travelled and flying solo on this trip I had lots of fun finding the caches.
I took a couple more wedges out of my 360Deg “finds from home” map and ticked off a couple of caches that I have heard about that were on my “to find” list.
There was a huge Variety of caches found from bird boxes to Fridges, Wall mountable tool boxes to Eclipse tins, with the odd ammo can thrown in. A couple of head scratching gadget caches chewed up some time but will be memorable for time to come. Numerous puzzles that I had solved i managed to find and I even managed to make good on a couple of DNFs, and add some more DNFs to my list. Even though I was out on my own I still had to use a couple of PAFs to get by. Thanks guys.
Looks like the locals usethis placeto the max.

On an adventure with Kelshandra. We took the scenic route in that looks well travelled by bike riders so that we didn't discover any surprises. That's what happens when you let the kids lead the way.
Camping close by so decided to get this one and look around this intriguing historical area. What a process to extract the Au. Took the Viking TB to add to my teams TB Hotel when I get back home. Tftc which was found in good condition
Thanks for the info on this location. As I pulled up the muggles were leaving for the day! Phew! TFTC
Hard to navigate to, but once we got there it was a good find. Swapped a teddy for a yowie prize. Tftc
Was it the urge to go travelling?
Was it being cooped up with the Co-vid19 virus?
Was it the draw of the sunshine up north?
Was it the bite on the rod of the great Murray Cod?
Was it running out of the fine liqueurs from the Rutherglen wineries?
Whatever it was, the team dusted off the caravan and scraped off the mould, and got out of home.
After being cooped up for the last few months with Co-vid19 virus we finally got let out of the house – whoo hoo - parole! We’re free, after the police check point on the Hume Fwy leaving the Mitchell Shire checking every vehicle. And besides we needed to get back to the Rutherglen wineries as we finished all our liqueurs while locked down. OK, any excuse to go travelling. We love it. So we spent a couple of days free camping on the Murray River, having some time out, some time to re-coop, keeping warm by the camp fire and in the local wineries as well, spending our money supporting the local businesses.
Found at 1:13pm. Loved learning about the history here.

Away for the weekend with Happy pants and omegaman1971. We were heading to Shepparton to do some caching, in an area we hadn't been before.
Many laughs and fun were had over the time, along with a variety hides found in some different areas.
This was a great area to explore, unfortunately more on foot than 4x4ing. Took a bit for GPS to settle where we made the find.
Thanks Robmc for placing the cache and doing the maintenance, so we can enjoy the find.

In town with Happy Feet and Happy Pants trying to escape the COVID-19 craziness back home.
Had a awesome weekend full of laughs and finding some great caches.
Wish I had a real 4wd to play on the nearby sand hills.
Unfortunately we did have some DNF's.
Logging as Happy man.
Cheers for the fun cache.

Again a place I would not have visited without geocaching. I love the places to which geocaching sometimes takes me.

It has taken us a long time to get here as we had noticed the name of these couple of caches and have been trying to get back. Geoturtle37 used to road train loads of sodium cyanide to gold mines in WA. She found this more primitive method quiet interesting as did I. Thanks for bringing this area to our attention.
After paddling around Lake Nagambie yesterday, I needed a break, and with high winds, it added to my decision not to go back again today. So I headed to Whroo and surrounds for some terra firma caching. This was my first for the day. Interesting read on the process, and seeing the remains of the tanks. Nice quick find.
My thanks to Robmc for the cache.
My thanks to Robmc for the cache.
Accurate coordinates and a common style of hide led to a quick find of a well hidden cache. The cache and contents were in good condition. After replacing the cache we had a closer look at the cyanide tanks. We wondered how the cyanide was disposed of when the extracting of gold ended. The large drainage holes left us with the impression that the liquid was simply let go. We hope that we were wrong and that a better means of disposal was used. Thanks Robmc for the cache.
