Thankfully no crocs here today, but went the longer way around to avoid the blackberries so maybe I missed seeing the reptiles as well. Quite serene at GZ (for a swamp behind ANU); all good with cache and log. Thanks, Tankengine!

Search for this one, and gave up last autumn from my kayak. Today, however, with a beautiful afternoon and three kayaks on the water, we made a more determined effort. There was blood, there were thorns, there were lots and lots of spiders, there were some risky moments getting in and out of the kayaks, but we found it!

TFTC. I took a route that had blackberry but it meant I stayed dry. I also found it easy to avoid the construction workers as they were playing a game of cricket.

What a beautiful day to be outside today. Have looked at this cache many times but decided today was the day to venture into the swamp. There is some major fencing and tree removal because of the new joint fire and ambulance station is to be situated but it does not impact the find. I did not take the hard way but just followed the fence till I could get access. Lovely spot too.

Thanks for getting me out and about Tankengine

12 spots is enough for about 2 years at the current find rate! Will maintain when it gets down to 2-3 spare spots!

Our bike ride today took us through ANU, which at this time of the year is fairly quiet.
Everything there seems a lot more relaxed once all those exams are over!
Before heading back home, we decided to come and have a look for this one.
It’s over a year, since this one was last signed
We found a way in, and gradually made our way through lots of greenery towards GZ.
We stopped upon arrival and surveyed our options. It did not take long before we had the hide in our hands, and our name added to the log.
Yes, it is a quiet and secluded spot… Traffic in the distance, but nobody around here.
Thanks Tankengine!

I had left this cache as an after work cache, and I am glad I also planned to have daylight for it. Had this feeling I was going around in circles in the jungle, but I think it was pretty straight. I did come across a homeless camp - and a lot of swamp.

Might try another way back to the car.

Cache and log in good condition, but log nearly full, though there is more space on the edge.

Lots of Ladybird larvae around. Probably Harmonia sp. A European Blackbird is singing and some Honeyeater.

Find #4180

Out for a little caching on my two hour window for adventure! Lockdown has bought a totally different approach to caching with the introduction of homework! Much time for homework in fact. Therefore many more puzzles solved, both as a solo and collective effort. Thanks to my fellow geo buddies for assistance when needed.

And in between were a few traditionals, though not nearly as many of them left these days

Logs all in good condition unless otherwise noted.

Thanks to Tankengine for putting out and maintaining all of these caches for our enjoyment!

Epic! Whilst GLISS! originally chose this cache for our daily she was not as keen once we realised it would be a trek through rough terrain by phone light lol. After a little (ok a lot) of convincing we decided it was worth a shot. It was certainly a memorable experience as we pieced our way through to the cache. So glad we made the find or I may not have been forgiven! Thanks for the adventure.. it won’t be soon forgotten. Thanks for the cache!

Found with Nibletricecakes for our daily (in this case nightly) streak. I think there's an extra half point difficulty doing this one at night - we are cray cray! We successfully navigated the thorns and it was terrific to hear NRC say "found it"! TFTC tankengine.

An 8 month unloved cache! Worth a look a thinks!
Parked over near the botanic gardens and made my approach by foot.
I must have achieved a good entry point as I was able to track my way around with very little blackberry interference.
Although it’s a rather eerie spot, the area was fairly dry underfoot with no recent significant rain so got to the GZ with relative ease and spotted the cache.
Logged and replaced then off on the return trek.
Thanks TE.

I decided to get some caches around this area this morning before heading home to binge the AFL (so glad that it's back). Have been percrastinating on this one for a while considering what the logs have said, but I had a taste for this type of terrain after finding the Denman Drive series - this was obviously a step up from that, but it was still similar in some ways nonetheless. Parked across the road and then wandered down - the last 60m were not as difficult as I expected, but trying to find dry ground and avoid blackberries and branches did test me. The last stage of the journey was very fun and made signing the log very satisfying. Lovely and secluded views from GZ, too! TFTC TE!

I have avoided this one in the past, but in the end it was pretty easy getting in and out.... no problems with blackberries at all, though the ground was a little wet here and there. Nicely done, fave point

24-May-20
This cache is more like a 3/3, or is that just me.... Me and Coolducky rode to this cache and i went in while Coolducky minded the bikes. the GPS was going haywire so that made it much harder. It is definitely a puzzle to find out how to get into here! as i was heading in the blackberries were going crazy so I of course drew blood, (the blackberries win again!). Once I got my way to GZ the view was great. Smile But of course there were millions of spots to put a small so I was having trouble. Finally Coolducky got fed up with me going round and round in circles but as he got in I found it! The cache was in a spot i had be eyeing up but I kept on saying nope. We both signed the log and made our way back.

This unfound cache was sitting out on its own. Today we decided to have a go. We took a snaking/curving approach that avoided wet ground and most of the blackberries. Thank goodness I found the cache before the ground ran out! Thanks Tankengine.

Took a dumb way first and ended up with swampy shoes, then found a more sensible path. Probably long pants required next time! No pen but here’s proof

13-Mar-20
I’d out this one off for a long time as reading the logs made it sound very like travelling up the Mekong in apocalypse now. Today after running out of caches on my ride home this was the day. I came in from the rear along the creek and the entry was thorn free ( I got caught once on the way back). The co-it’s were very accurate and the cache was soon found. Glad it was not “out there” as I didn’t fancy my chances. Tftc.

03-Feb-20
Once I'd clambered through the undergrowth and done an initial search I read previous logs, noted the lengthy time since last found, factored in its proximity to the swamp and recent storm damage and almost decided the cache would be missing. It was just at that moment I spotted it! All safe and sound and the log-sheet perfectly dry. Thanks for the cache Tankengine!

13-Aug-19
In Canberra for a meeting that finished early so went for a run to collect some caches. Scrambled through the undergrowth making sure my feet didn't get wet to reach GZ. Looked everywhere I thought it would be but to no avail. Must have been cache blind today.

I found it by accident! Made my day.

Found with Decrypter. We parked nearby and walked to GZ. There was some minimal bashing through branches and scrub but we were soon in the swamp. Our units took a moment to settle but we started searching anyway. Soon we spotted the hide. Log signed and all replaced and we had to find our way out. Then it was off to lunch. TFTC.

Decided last minute to extend the mega adventure for another day! Had a good night sleep after a massive day yesterday. Thanks for putting all these caches out.

Found at 5:54:00 PM

Was passing on the way home from a client and decided to pop past this cache. I managed to find a way in without blackberries, which was lucky given I was wearing my work clothes. When I got there I decicded I should go with my instincts and I was rewarded. Following the creek was the best way in I found.

Thanks Tankengine

Cache 4953 on 7 Apr 2019.

Today was AngelG27’s geocaching adventure day! I had a big day planned to grab 10 Tankengine caches, and almost succeeded, with 9 eventual finds. I was muggled out of one last find and decided to make do with a high favourite Farmers 5 to round off the day. An excellent but tiring day today, with most of the easier TE caches rounded up.

This cache: last TE cache of the day for me, and a tough one to access. I found a way in with blackberries but a way out free of them fortunately. I was worried my phone GPS would have trouble in the dense foliage, but it did better than usual, and pointed almost directly towards the cache! Happy to get this one signed off!

Thanks Tankengine for the cache and the fun!

This was a little more difficult to get to than first anticipated. The geofamily & I clambered through the growth, finding a possum on the way. We started on a different path out but there was a lot blackberries, so choose your route carefully. TFTC!

We must have found the two out of three routes to this cache that were covered in blackberries. Not quite the magical walk in the woods I was hoping for. TFTC

Couldn't have better picked a better time to find this cache!
I have been meaning to find this for a while now, but accessing it has always haunted me, as I am usually passing through on weekdays and parking seems a nightmare.

Decided to come on a Sunday however which turned out to be a great idea, and I managed to get what I think would be the closest park to this cache at the very end of Garran Road.

I made the short walk and bridge crossing, and soon came to the swamp part. The day and time of year I picked was once again, perfect! I didn't even have to battle any blackberries or bushes, there was a clear and dry footed path that went all the way to GZ! Couldn't have gone any better!

A quick find once I was there, was hoping it would be "out there", as I would of loved to place it there, but I trusted the terrain rating Razz

Thanks Tankengine, a really interesting location, no way would I want to get this in wet season! I feel like it could get up to a level where you would need to wade! Or at least be wearing gumboots.

28-Sep-18
With all the children being approached lately by strangers I think I spooked a couple young lads who had decided to sit under a tree chatting on the way. Oh well. It's a beautiful afternoon and there's a cache to find.
This cache could prove quite challenging in the wet or when the trees are full of leaves. Glad I chose now to look.
Cache was found quickly and in good condition.

After attending the nearby CITO we went looking for a few more finds and decided to head for several in this area. This is one of those that looks like a short walk except that there is no handy parking as you zoom by. Today we found a park near the lake and walked in, an interesting place to visit but not quite swampy today. Thanks Tankengine.

An nice quick outing over at this end of campus as I was waiting for Wilma to finish up.
This was an awesome discovery of a location. So cool a place to be found and so peaceful here see picture. I was stocked by the place and the hide, a FAVpoint worthy.
I am glad I did this this time of the year pretty straight forward at the moment.

After doing some shopping in the city, I rode down to the lake to get a few more caches along its shores - I mean to have found all caches along the loop some day!

Dressed to look dapper in the city, I wasn't really prepared to pick my way through briars, but I found a path through without tearing my jacket. The approach to the cache was abpve the current waterline, fortunately.

#4340 5th for today

A very cold start today, I guess it was around 0C at 9am as mtrax & I headed out for some ad-hoc caching around the lake. We chose to stay local & grab a few newish caches rather than the usual field trip out of town. We started out from the National Museum, then up into a deserted ANU, up to Bruce, then over to the city before heading to Yarralumla for lunch and a few finds around there. All in all, a nice relaxed, if somewhat chilly day of caching.

I've been keen to try this one out. We upset a group of choughs forraging here, but luckily the swap wasn't to boggy today. Interesting spot.

Thanks also to the COs: Tankengine

I run past here regularly. Today my running buddy was out of town so I swung past to check out the dreaded blackberry-ish terrain. I saw a geotrail and wandered along, expecting at any moment to come up against a wall of thorns. But the numbers kept counting down and then I was at the water's edge, unscathed!! [:o] GPSr was still pointing 15m out that way, so I gingerly clambered over the slippery trees, searching for a classic TE hide. Almost ended up in a smelly swamp a number of times - good thing I was having a shower when I got back to work anyway! No luck, so I returned to dry land to have another read of the description. As I bent down to pick up my phone, there was the cache. Autumn camo. Nice to have this one done and dusted. Thanks Tankengine

Decided life was too short to keep persisting with this one today. Certainly couldn't find a blackberry free way in and, when trying to bash my way out again, stumbled across a substantial 'merry meeting' place complete with myriad bottles, an old car, many chairs, coffee cups and other detritus and I got a bit spooked! Will come back another day, hopefully with TravelGran the Indomitable. Oh, and I also lost my crucial bit of paper with the rest of the day's co-ords and hints!

31-Dec-17
Found @ 5:24pm, the second of three to finish off 2017

I made my way via the water from Time to Paddle. On approach to the likely spot I saw the cache's custodian - that water dragon must be getting used to all the odd visitors! He even jumped off one branch and swam to another while I was getting out of the kayak. Didn't seem at all bothered by my presence, eating the odd insect while watching me log the cache.

Thanks Tankengine, this one is a favourite for me!

An interesting location in the city. Parked in the ANU and found a way in which was mostly blackberry free (not the direct route!). Interesting at GZ with lots of water around, but fortunately reasonably dry underfoot. Disturbed a water dragon, which did not flee, but just watched on as I searched. Found an empty sistema container floating in the water and suspected this might be the cache based on the size rating, but after a few more minutes found the more typical Tankengine hide.

Thanks

#7663 - 17:15; After attending the Lake Tuggeranong CITO event, I decided to collect another couple of caches on the way home. This one wasn't originally on the list, but I decided to give it a try as I was passing close by. I should have read the description before I made the attempt, as I started my approach from the wrong side of the creek. Once that error was corrected, I found a rather convenient park as well as a reasonably clear path to GZ. Once at GZ, it was a quick find and sign after some visitors earlier in the day. TFTC Tankengine Smile

Out with fitzy for a few caches before the CITO event and we made this our first stop. No problems parking in the uni grounds on a public holiday and we were soon heading towards the swamp. First section of the walk was fine then it was time to make our way through the undergrowth. No great problems, but of course the old blackberry was dodged along the way.

Arrived close to GZ, managed to avoid the croc and soon saw the cache. Log was signed and then it was back out following our track as we went. Arrived back at the car unscathed and all was good.

Thanks TE.....been a while between finds.

14639. Found on a Holiday Monday meander around Canberra with Sol de Lune.

With a few hours before the CITO down south, a plan was hatched with SDL to clean up a few Trads around the place - especially ones that would normally have a high muggle factor. First for the day. Easy parking at the ANU and a short uneventful (for a TE cache) walk in soon had us dodging the hungry-looking Croc and arriving at GZ. Quick find. Signed the log, returned the cache, and headed back out again.

Thanks Tankengine. Find Number 400 of yours I think?

07-Sep-17
Found it! I was wondering how this cache could be harder to leave than get to, as previous logs have stated. Then I found it. And couldn't remember where I'd come from. And ended up leaving from the exact opposite end of the clearing to the one I'd entered from. This cache is hidden in a labyrinth, so congratulations Tankengine for managing to get out of here after setting up the cache in the first place. Tftc.

My after work cache was on the way home today. I found a few bridges to walk under on the way to and from this one. Nice engineering updates. As GZ it was well and truly swampy, but I managed to locate the most remote spot and it co-incided with the right numbers so there is was. A very unusual spot in a good sized city.

Thanks.

Time to fill another gap in my calendar matrix. This one was quite close to where I spent the day at a work conference, so it was the logical cache to grab on the way home. The walk in was without problem, just followed the higher ground and straight to the cache. TFTC

Watch out for the dangerous croc in at GZ! DRT and I thought we would drop in here on the way to the event. It was a pretty straightforward walk in, it was the trip out that was more tricky. Usually it is the other way round! Tftc Tankengine!!!

Out with DTY73 before the event to grab a couple of caches

This was the first of the day and after a nice wander I warned Dty73 about the "Croc" that was at almost GZ, we then searched around for a bit, I went out on a limb about where it could be but Dty73 found it safely on dryish land. On our way back we found some blackberries and sinking leaves. Good fun cache before the event.

Park nearby over by black Mountain and just a quick walk through, following paths by torchlight I managed to follow a good way through and didn't have any problems with brambles. Glad that it had been dry lately so kept the feet dry but still a but sinky under foot in the areas my phones gps was encouraging me to go tonight! Eventually settled and had me heading in a much drier direction. The wire attachments securing crimp has come off with the cache no longer secured to its spot. Have fixed it in place best I could but it's barely holding and will keep undoing. Thanks for the cache Tankengine, an enjoyable night time find.

Friday 9 June 2017 - an overcast late Winter's afternoon in the mid teens finding 3 from 3 caches to keep our daily stats alive.

Was fortunate that the area around and to this cache was realively dry today. However can see that our blackberry free path, taken from the Black Mt side, could quickly become swampy and a challenge to access/retrieve at another time. MuggleSon got excited when he saw the surf board but quickly realised that it would be a challenge to remove and carry and gave up - lol lol... Cache was spotted by MuggleSon for a quick retrieve. Not sure we would every have wondered to this location had it not been for this hide. TFTC Tankengine.

Already dark after work, parked nearby and used torch to get to GZ. No problems with blackberries. Saw the ex-watercraft. Continued and checked the spot I thought would make sense and presto. Signed and returned to car. TFTC

Let's go surfing. Well, a strange place for a discarded board. Managed to avoid most of the blackberries on the approach and, with the help of accurate coords, managed to spot the well tucked away container fairly quickly. Another new adventure for me and TFTC TE. A FP from me.

Parked nearby and walked down without having to avoid any blackberries for a quick find. Was tempted to salvage the surf ski but in the end decided to leave it. No wet feet for me. TFTC.

This morning, after the huge downpour last night, this cache could easily have had a few more S-words in its name. Sullivan's Slippery Swamp (I almost slipped into the drink), or Sullivan's Sludgy Swamp (it did indeed resemble a sludgy swamp after all that rain), or possibly Sullivan's Slurpy Swamp ("slurp" was the sound my boots made as I moved through some sections).
At GZ I did some extra work, above and beyond what was necessary. I had plenty of light to work with, as there was actually some blue sky about, to the south. Eventually, having cleaned my glasses and engaged my brain, I saw something and moments later found the well-hidden cache.
Only one minor encounter with a blackberry bush, and I won it this time.
(Blackberry bushes 517, ZQX: 1)
Thanks for the cache TE!

Haven't been out for a cache for a while and when this popped up and I had time and means I figured it was a sign. Not the FTF I was chasing but a great adventure and glad to be out for a great cache. Thanks tankengine.
