I started questioning my sanity at this point. Why does the route to the next cache always involve a huge hill? I could have stayed home today on my day off work and relaxed but that would have been boring! Getting out into these frightful hills is way more interesting. Thank you 88andy88 for placing and maintaining DGS : #3 Frightfull Hills for us to find today.
The entry to the Earth
It was here that i started noticing that eerily their were no birds, just the wind and a humm from something unknown in the distance. Many black holes were spied including the one containing this cache.

With a target of finding **️ DGS : Frightfull Hills FINAL ️** this afternoon while still needing to find four of the Trads holding the necessary clues, I had made a good start by finding #2 in the series.
With this cache being the next that I needed to find, standing at #2 I had a dilemma... do I traverse the side of the range to the next cache or do I head all the way back up to the track to head along it for a while and then *plunge over the edge* again? Now I have cached this area enough to know that a traverse is never going to be as easy as it looks on geocaching app... but looking back up the hill, I decided to give it a try.
Yep, there was the expected "steep gully" to traverse that didn't show on the map... but on balance, I think it was the easier way. So after following a route that definitely not a straight line, I arrived at this cache... again, straight forward find and in excellent condition.
Thanks **Dirtbags Downunder** for the adventure.

Due to unforeseen circumstances Mr Smokey Bear will no longer be a part of Team Smokey Bear and will continue his adventures as "SmokeyBearOG".
So I'm relogging all previous finds under my new account.
Unfortunately this log will not show the original logging date.
**Thanks to 88andy88 for this adventure, looking forward to many more.**

Found previously with BlackOpal2005. We thought it was time to create our own accounts.
With the Muster by the Mountain event scheduled for noon, I ensured that I arrived early at the car park to collect as many of the caches as possible. I've been planned on getting these Dirtbags caches in this area for a long time and this was a perfect day to do it. Left the car park at 9 am and returned by 3.30.
Lots of up and hills here to get this one. Signed this one at 9.48 am.
Thanks for the cache 88 Andy 88

Another day of caching shenanigans with Stemicmitsar, and with some more hiking on the mind. Hamfish and his event in Kinglake had caught our eyes, collecting some trads and other odds and ends on the way up for myself as I subject Stemicmitsar to walking the "loop" again.

Great walking out in the trees- what better activity for a Saturday morning. TFTC
Found by edmil and Maddie @2:45pm 24/02/22.;well unsuitable footwear certainly made this interesting - not what I considered a recuperative stroll! But nevertheless the cache was located. And damn realized I needed to get some info from the cache - missed it on #1 so will need to retrieve at later date. Log book signed and cache returned to hide.
We tried our best to contour around from the last cache. Thankfully it was found quickly and was right where it should have been.

No muggles here today! And nice to be out for the arvo in between wet fronts coming in this week. I've had my eye on this DGS series for sometime, and can initially remember thinking that looks like a nice walk in the park. 'Nice' is not exactly accurate but it was definitely fun being out here on a wee little solo micro adventure finding my own way and enjoying the bush. Enroute to the NE after another stint on carers duty with dear ol' mum. TFTC and the FUn - a fave for a fine spot!
Today’s weather is just perfect to be out here going up and down hills in the bush thanks for placing
ignorance is bliss
a few years ago when I did the mountain-shaped series over the mountain, there was a feeling of great adventure: only half a dozen souls have walked this route before and crashed through this undergrowth and smelled the forest and signed their life away in the logbook
the day was fuelled by a pioneering whiff of derring-do
here the journey to each treasure was fuelled by the same adventurous spirit
this land is so wild and unconquered and I am among the first to come
but this attitude was soon quelled once the logbook was found and you could read the lengthy list of whose footsteps you’re treading in
you may prefer not to know
in which case don’t take the time to read
just sign your name and go

Got it thanks. Shit this is a tough walk. As a side note, it sucks to be female...40 seconds to pee and 5 minutes to pull pants up and get clothes all correct. Then another stop 5 minutes later to remove sticks wedged in undies.
It's quite pretty here despite the terrain and the eye-poking branches. Once at GZ I stopped for a breather on the convenient seat. Thanks Dirtbags Downunder
There is so much unloved here on this series, I am claiming all of it , probably about 5 years worth. Some great d/ts and worth every T point. Tough going in places. So that Aussie name - how about Bogan-geocaching-limited, has a nice ring to it or not.. I’ll think of more

A beautiful sunny Saturday for caching. These have been on my to-do list since they came out. So when atsmug invited me to join him, I jumped at the chance.
Bit of a steep walk to this one. Had a quick drink and snack before moving on.
Cheers Dirtbags Downunder

Made our way across from number two, working the contours of the hill. Found the cache easily and gladly signed the log before continuing on our way. Tftc
Have been staring at these cache on the Mt Everard track for far too long, so last night Trailstevo and I made a start. It was great to get out of the burbs and get into the sticks, especially on a lovely warm evening where we thought we might be treated to some reptiles, but no joy. A few roos, possums and an Owl was heard that I am still to identify. Anyway I carried this old carcass up the hills and down, and up, and down, questioning Trailstevos ability to find a path?! Pretty sure he made us walk twice as far! Was really nice to get off the tracks for a while, and felt like we were walking on virgin undiscovered land, well with Trailstevo navigating no-one had walked through those bushes before! Why would you....deeerrrr!! Was a great workout. After finding a few traditional cache we started on the first Multi. Knowing how my devious mate 88ANDY88 thinks (or doesn't think), and seeing that his was a 1km-10km walk in the attributes we feared the worst. Infact it was a great walk and having not really read the rules a surprise tree climb awaited. Given that Trailstevo is only 2ft 4" tall it was going to be better if this fat bloke went up the tree and really gave the branches a workout. All worked out well and only a magnitude 3.3 as I swung out of the tree back to ground. Picked up a Dirtbags pathtag on the way round too. Thanks for the fun 88ANDY88 and Paul_the_Hippy. Looking forward to getting back up there and finding some more.....i think. Cheers.
A big change of terrain compared to recent weeks as Gunks and I tackled the less marked trails of the Frightful series and others nearby instead of city paths. The trek continues, is that a trail...No. TFTC
I needed to get at least 10 finds in the area today so I could award a mint tin on a park bench in the suburbs a FAV point.
Tough? Nah, a walk in the park! The frightful park. ️ I was slowing down day1976 - without me in tow he would probably have cleared out the whole series *and* the Ana Dablam one as well before dark, haha. At least before midnight. ️ But I would have been jealous then, so I was happy to slow him down for this trek. And I'm grateful for him agreeing to be slowed down. TFTC!
With all in single file we navigated thru the dark along animal trails occasionally looking at our gps to verify our destination, it’s certainly a challenge in the dark as you can only see so far in front But the 5 of us managed without any issues and thoroughly enjoyed doing something that most would be to lazy to attempt as the CO intended Thanx for the Adventure Stay Dirty
"Would you like to go on an adventure" MrSmokeyBear called out.
"Why, yes I would!" I couldn't contain my excitement.
And that is all it took! we were off on another adventure.
The scrub thickened, and animal tracks became harder to see, let alone find. But it wouldn't deter us. We were already in for the long hall! Trudging on, it was calling to us....the cache...and in our grasp!
Thank you for the series!

Well after a day at Mt Disappointment it would seem my addiction for finding caches had not died down. Hearing that Mrs Smokey Bear was looking for a night-time adventure, and as I was chasing some hardcore caches, it was a no brainer that we should come and smash out these ones. This place is just awesome at night. This is our third find, and I think I've just got my second wind as we power on despite the time. I think I'm on a bit of a high tonight from this adventure. What can I say this cache and the adventure of finding it lives up to its name as a dirtbag cache.

As we continue our casual stroll through the trails we passed a few interesting area but found the grass plains to be very calming and relaxing. The gentle rolling hills along with this idillic landscape. Very enjoyable. TFTC
Thanks 88andy88 for the amazing trail. Although we won't get through them all we will be back.

I headed out today with biggles1024 to do a bit of space exploration and once that was done we returned to Earth so that we could head for the hills.
By now we new what we were in for, for the rest of the day but at the time we didn't realise that this was the easier side.
A bit of slip sliding up and down and we made it to this one, the one good thing about these caches is that they are fairly easy to find once you are in the right area.

I headed out early today with SteMicMitSar to target a group of caches to qualify for the Space Endeavour souvenirs We got off to an early start and put in a very full day. Having completed our main goal, we headed here to attempt the DGS series.
We bush bashed our way to this one so as to walk the contours as much as possible. It was hard going but the cache was found quickly and we remembered to obtain the clue for the final.

Yeah, the terrain is starting to speak to me, but wonderdog is still running around having a great time. There was so much to catch up on, Andy and I were quite preoccupied, so the going was pretty easy.
It's funny how this country reminds me so much of where I have a stack of caches hidden in the Lerderderg Gorge.
A great day out so far in great company.

I found myself today all alone and so decide to seek out adventure and check out these DGS caches which I had heard many speak about recently. What great terrian for some off track fun. Not too dense on this side compared to the east side of this ridge.
On approach before making the climb upto GZ spotted a wombat running flat out up the hill, impressive stuff. Once I did reach GZ it was time for a drink I could see now that going up was going to burn.

Leaving number 2, I started following critter tracks in the general direction of the cache, but these tracks seem to disappear and you find yourself wondering "Which way did they go?"
Navigating on the side of a hill with gullies is always a challenge. Do you go down and up or follow the contours around? The GPS wasn't much help with these decisions, but some how I made and found another great container, nicely hidden. Thanks Dirtbags

In Kinglake National Park to attack some of the Frightfull Hills Series. From #1 I made a bee line to #2, now bee-lining to #3 bush bashing my way. Some nice hills to enjoy here. Co-ords spot on. Third one of the series and nice size container. This is my first time here and I'm loving it.
Thanks **88andy88**

Headed to the Kinglake area with Jacko for an enjoyable day's hiking. Okay, a little driving too, but a lot of hiking . This series was the main aim of the day.
We headed for the Hills, looking for thrills not frights. And we found smilies!
We decided to make this a shorter visit, covering the hill top and trads on the western side. This #3 wasn't too bad, although the walk along the slope to #2 could take a while.
Thanks, 88andy88.

A great series of quality hides, in a wicked location. Not a half day job. Not a 20% remaining on phone battery job.
But that remaining phone battery can get me a couple more! A few downhill skids - but no falls. Balance seems to have improved also. Not too thick, but still a decent bush bash.
Looks like I need to come back.

I decided today was an ideal day for a bit of a walk in the hills, so I decided to head towards Kinglake and see what all these Dirtbag caches were all about. The weather was overcast, but certainly not cold. The sun even came out in the afternoon.
Wow, these hills are unrelenting.... Should be easier on the way back!
Many thanks to Dirtbags Downunder for the cache. TNLN.

I seem to recall getting into a bit of a rhythm by this point. Finding, signing, UV-ing, photographing, taking notes. These clues are brilliantly convoluted, you dirtbags! I didn't end up compiling them at the scene. I constructed coordinates a couple of hours ago, now that I'm tens of kilometres away. Mad skillz. I shall return for the final cache some other time.
More pertinent to this particular log, I recall this cache revealing itself fairly swiftly once I finally got myself in place. Thanks again Dirtbags Downunder!
