#8200Back o Bourke Day 2! Dubbo->Bourke.Were on a road-trip chasing some LGAs we need between Coonamble and Kyogle, via Cobar and Bourke. The car is packed with TOTTs and snacks and we are prepared for long drives and short walks, hoping to gather the required LGAs without damaging our DT average in the process, all the while logging as many trigs as we could get to....Awesome spot! We were keen to visit here, as we love EC's and trigs, and this hill has them all. We were pretty surprised at the views from the lookout, and stayed a bit watching the workings of the active gold mine. Even my 11 year old son at home was impressed with a video we sent! Thanks for the cache!

#8200Day 2 of our Northern/Western NSW Roadtrip.Dubbo -> Bourke via 4 missing LGAs.Another long, but not quite as long, driving day. Heading out of Dubbo, through Cobar then north to Bourke for the night, pretty much grabbing anything that isnt a 1.5/1.5, especially high DTs, but theyre sparse out here anyways Smile end of copy paste Wasn't expecting much here to be honest, driving up this little dirt road, but then walking up to the lookout, the pit got deeper and deeper and deeper! What a cool spot, got to watch some big trucks and other stuff ascending from the deep, driving up and around, picking up some dirt, etc. Collected our answers quickly, then spent about 10 minutes looking, watching, taking some photos, then also doing the nearby trig(s).Definitely an FP worthy spot! Continuing on with my well earned 2 week break and after staying in Rochester, Hay, White Cliffs, Cunnamulla, Toompine, Charleville then Cunnamulla again then Wanaaring for the night. So (after my very big detour due to lots of road closures) its now time to head back south towards home. The sun is still making an appearance after being cold and windy for the last week and it is good to get the suns rays onto you to bones. Most of the roads that were closed are now open so I stuck to the dirt to get down to her travelling through Louth.Cobar is a very bustling town and plenty of vans around as well. The last few times I have come through I had the van in tow so it was good to be able to come up and have a look at the pit.I like how there are tunnels that have been dug out when the pit pit was at different depths.A fav goes out to you for this one.Answers have been sent to the CO.Thanks Team Crackers TFTC.

First of all, a couple of surprises with this fascinating location... Firstly, how did we miss seeing it on previous visits to Cobar? And secondly, could that viewing platform be built any closer to the edge...? Not that that apparently bothered anyone but me. MrG was hanging as close to the mesh as he could get watching the tiny truck, which we all know is anything but tiny, going back for another load. The best view of a working mine you can get without using a drone. TFTEC Team Crackers, FP!

Now on the homeward part of my adventure. I had spent the night in Cobar and decided to visit the local earthcaches before leaving town. On arrival at the lookout, I was excited to see one of the large trucks making its way down the slope. I have seen these type of trucks parked up at other mines, but never one in action. I took a LOT of photos here. I have never been to a working gold mine before. Thank you for bringing me here.....and TFTC

Freddo and Team Waldron headed to warmer climes around Broken Hill, Cobar, Bourke, Cunnamulla
and Charleville.

After a cold start in Broken Hill the weather improved once we got further north. Sadly our last night in Broken was wet which, pardon the pun, put a dampener on things.

All up it was a great week away and lots of caches were found with only 3 dnfs.

Thanks to all who placed and maintained their caches. The occasional cache was damaged and we refurbished it and we also left new logbooks as required.

Answer were gathered and sent to cache owner by Freddo. Approval to log has been approved.

Freddo and Team Waldron are heading north for a long delayed trip to the caching fields of Cunnamulla. This cache was found on our journey. Caches were fixed where necessary. Fresh log books added. Containers refreshed.

Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun.

We continued today our tour in NewSouthWales, AUS, and thereby searched, found and logged this interesting Earth-Cache.

The weather was - said in one word – simply best. The good hidden caches and the being on holidays kept us the whole day in a good mood.

The cache had good coordinates, and thus was easy to find. The answers were sent.

Thanks to Team Crackers for the generation of this nice cache Cobar Gold (with the proper agenda), for leading us here and for showing us this funny location as well as the ongoing maintenance of this cache.

PS: Please forgive us the uniform log which is needed due to timing problems - if necessary special actions and happenings are there described where they appeared.

Greetings from Germany together with the hope to meet somewhere like event or wood.

Together with my son, I am on a camping trip from Sydney to Broken Hill and back. On our 3000 km journey over 11 days we have seen some wonderful little towns, beautiful landscapes and many interesting geocaches.

After driving yesterday from Sydney to Cobar, we would have a day of rest and explore Cobar and its caches.
An interesting open cut mine. Fascinating to see the trucks go down the steep hill. From this high up those trucks look so tiny! The answers for the EarthCache have been collected and send to the CO.

Today we started with sunrise at the Living Desert sculptures and worked our way to Cobar.

I love looking in old open pits. This is a great one showing off text book geology.

What a year Sandyofthesea and I have had. We kitted out the Prado and took off from Perth, Western Australia at the start of April 2022 to travel more of Australia using geocaching as a guide to see the sights. We started with the Nullabour, Eyre and York Peninsulas, the Riverlands, visited family in Victoria and then back in SA it got cold. Flinders and the Oodnadatta Track was amazing and we finally warmed up in Dalhousie Springs. The Alice beckoned and then a change of plan and we ended up tackling the Tanami Track to the Kimberley and Bungles Bungles. Territory Day in Darwin was unhinged - please try and do it! The Gulf, the coast and the car breaker ‘Old Tele Track’ to the top of Cape York. This is a must but it’s not easy! Eventually made it to Brisbane to get some fixes to the car….. let’s see where we end up.

Team Crackers, I found Cobar Gold today. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.

11-Oct-22
We visited this interesting place a while back on a family holiday out towards Cameron's Corner.
We had to cut our stay in Cobar short as one of the children woke up with painful ear infection and a cold so we had to pack up at 4 in the morning and hightail it back home. Cobar to the Central Coast in one day is not a trip to be undertaken lightly. Dad also learnt that the ground in Cobar at 4 in the morning is incredibly cold when the thongs got thrown in the car too early in the pack up.

The kids saw plenty of Emus strolling through the town much to their delight and they were suitably impressed by the size of the mine. They really enjoyed watching the massive trucks making their way up and down the road. They even managed to stay interested for the whole 6-7 minutes it took for the truck to make the climb.

Thanks for bringing us to this amazing spot with the Earthcache!

We're spending a few days in Cobar on our way to QOGM 2022 in Charleville and on our first day, we decided to head out to see the New Cobar Mine pit. What an incredible view. It's so hard to really gauge the depth of the pit and we would have liked to see a truck down there for comparison but no luck today.

It was really windy here today and I didn't notice until I got to the lookout, my jumper was in the car and I decided to tough it out until I had the answers. Other visitors to the lookout thought I was mad without a coat but having just spent three weeks on the Yorke Peninsula in far colder and stronger winds than this - I was fine. Today that one bar of gold - 15Kg is worth approx $838199.00. I would be pretty bloody happy with just one bar.

We had planned a road trip to Queensland to visit family in 2021, but our travel plans were stalled due to border closures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that the world was trying to get back to a semi normal state, we decided to have another go at getting away from the cold and head up north for some sunshine and warmth. After spending the night in Hillston, day 2 took us out to far reaches of NSW, stopping to grab a few smileys along the way to break up the straight roads. A lot of wildlife came across our path some literally, plenty of emu, birds, and sheep with lambs to keep us amused.
What a little gem of an earthcache and well worth a visit. Neither of us had ever seen anything like this before, so it was very interesting to read about the mine. We have sent our answers through to the CO, thank you Team Crackers for bringing us to this one.

This was an awesome site to behold. Unfortunately, it started to absolutely bucket down again and as it was coming in sidewards, so the shelter didn't do much good but we stayed and watched a couple of trucks make their way up and down the access ramps. It was interesting to watch them with their gear changes and speeds and guess what and why they do what they do. If only we could look inside. Logged with CO's permission. Thanks for a great cache.

25-May-22
We had run into a fellow cacher a couple of days ago and she mentioned that if we were going this way, we should check out this cache as it was the best earthcache she had ever done. This was always on the bucket list anyway so we were rather disappointed to wake and find that the weather was still not playing the game. It slowed down to a light drizzle so we set off to attempt this one cache. By the time we got here, it was a lot heavier and I whilst we were at the mine, the rain got so heavy that we couldn't hear each other talk. As we were already wet, we stayed and did what needed to be done as well as watching the antics of the vehicles as they came and went. The walls of this mine have some interesting inclusions in them and in the rain, they are quite colourful. As we were advised, this was a great cache and a favourite for me also. Thanks for bringing us here.

Enjoying testing out the new geomobile wheels on a long road trip through western NSW from Gundagai, Junee, Temora, West Wyalong, Lake Cargelligo, Cobar, Bourke, and then up into QLD where the next leg of the journey will begin.

Collecting a few selected caches along the way and enjoying the brilliant autumn sunshine after all of the rain. It always great to be out in our great outdoors, making the most of the weather hail rain or shine, and enjoying the variety of caches in offer.

Wow, just wow! Loved see this mine in action and some fascinating history. Excellent EC, a fav point from me.

This is an impressive gold mine and the quartz fault is also fine. Actually rocked up here with lunch from the bakery but there’s only a little table (compass) so it was a short break. And also a traditional to log

TFTC,
We did the Traditional here years ago but after crossing paths with Baktrak at the van park this morning we decided to do this cache.
Almost didn't happen due to a flat battery which I believe was caused by the clock and a cold night. I took the fuse out and with a drip feed tonight should be ok to get the 71 year old mistress home tomorrow.
Great cache, visited trackables.

We have selected a few caches to visit during our trip north, mainly ECs and virtuals.
Today we reached Cobar, set up camp, and off we went to take in the views into this brutalised landscape. It is amazing what the search for precious minerals makes people do ...
While we were at the lookout, a family arrived, the enthusiastic dad, a mine worker himself, explaining to his partner and children what the miners do and how the whole area is hollowed out some 2-3 km deep.
We took another respectful look at the earth works, trying to reconcile the gains from mining with the obvious disturbance and finding the answers to the EC questions.
The result of our deliberations has been sent and approved. Thank you for opening our eyes to the geological aspects of this feature!

Found on a trip around central New South Wales with e.gregory1. Our original plans were to travel through Bourke, Cunamulla and Toowoomba to attend the Dayboro event in Queensland and return via Port Macquarie and central NSW, but a series of events that included road closures due to flooding in southern inland Queensland, a covid outbreak in Brisbane and widespread storm damage and road closures along the north coast of NSW resulted in multiple changes of plans during the trip. As it eventuated our travels took us to central New South Wales, on a route from Broken Hill to Cobar, Nyngan, and Gunnedah from where we meandered southwards through some great scenery and historic towns that included Dunedoo, Wellington, Cowra and Yass. We then headed in a roughly westerly direction through to Temora, Wagga Wagga, Deniliquin and Swan Hill before making a final dash for home. All up we found a good mix of Traditionals, Puzzle Caches, Multicaches, Adventure Labs, Wherigos, Earthcaches, Letterbox Hybrids and Virtual Caches on a very entertaining and enjoyable trip. Thanks for the interesting Earthcache Team Crackers!

Travelling from Melbourne to Dayboro Qld for the mega over Easter. Whilst this may seem like an odd way to go, we have a weekend camping at Lake Fyans with family before we head north on Monday. One, two days is a long time in these days of Covid Sad It now seems like we will not get to Dayboro due to work complications. It now looks like we are having an extended NSW caching holiday.
What a magic viewing platform, this place definitely demonstrates mans ability to dig holes in the sand Wink
**Thanks for placing this cache Team Crackers**

Thanks for organising this EC, we stayed up at the lookout for a good 30min watching the truck going up and down. Gremlinkids and gremlindaddy were mesmerised!

Another early start from Broken Hill for our caching trip with Wilbert67.
Trip so far has been quiet good except the COVID-19 that made us do a trip diversion.
Now travelling to Cobar and picking up caches along the way.
Thanks to all the COs for the placements of their hides.
This was a must to do.
