Tftc. Doing new chums on this gorgeous spring day and a great detour with the kids! Bit of a prickly one to find but so worth it. Suggestion - BYO pen and might need more paper
Happy New Zealand trip with geocaching.A pity were with muggle friends and cant visit as much as geocaches as we like. I appreciate all the caches we passed and visited. Thanks, GSVNoFixedAbode, for the cache. Greetings from Taiwan.
Just me, tonight. Everyone else is off-duty, but here I am, because crime doesnt keep office hours and neither, apparently, do I. Tried to go home, but the idea of sitting alone in the dark with just a bottle and my thoughts seemed... unwise. So here I am, wandering the streets, muttering to myself like some kind of deranged gargoyle.
CaptainVimes and I have crossed the pond to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks.Very muddy and slippery up here. Thankfully, the rain cleared for us and the sun is out. Beautiful area. Thanks GSVNoFixedAbode and happy caching
#4005 Today is day 19 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I'm driving from Wanaka to Te Anau today and finding geocaches along the way. Stopped by to get this oldie. Found it with clear instructions from the hint and previous logs. A nice mini adventure. GSVNoFixedAbode, thank you for the cache!Picked up[TB8RD7Z ScarabQR Blue](https://coord.info/TB8RD7Z)-crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 19, 2024 @ 16:00:18[GC7E8] Tobin's Track (Arrowtown, Otago) was a D2.0/T2.5 Regular Traditional Cache at the time of finding.
We are visiting New Zealand for 2 weeks on a family holiday from Brisbane. This cache was on my list of must do caches while we were in NZ as there are no caches hidden 04/01 at all in Queensland. Today we were driving from Te Anau to Wanaka, with a stop in Arrowtown. After lunch the family went for a walk along the river. I mentioned that I wanted to walk all the way up to this cache and everyone was having such a good time that the whole family ended up coming all the way up. It was fun to see Tobin's house and then a little further along the track we easily found the cache. I left a TB here that recently spent 3 years in an ammo can so hopefully it doesn't sit here for too long. Thanks for the cache placement GSVNoFixedAbode! The game has changed a lot over 23 years and I love finding these oldies as they are usually more traditional caches and a nice challenge to get to.
Was about to give up, before a friend tried a different location further down the bank. Definitely not at the base of the pole! TFTC. Signed as JDG
For future cachers, at the top of the stairs take a LEFT and keep following the track till you find the house.

Found this one 15yrs ago in May loved being able to return today with the kids. As with last time, we completely missed the stairs and track and ended up going bush to get there. Lovely day for it TFTC
I just had to get this interesting, older geocache once I saw it on my map. Mrs RG headed back into town for a glass of vino and left me to it. I headed on up the track and followed the hint to get to ground zero. Although the vegetation fought me here and there, it wasn't too bad. I spotted the container on approach of the final location. Super. Tftc
I tried bush bashing through the blackberries (it didnt work) but got it in the end. TFTC
This cache was on my list to find for today. Amazing area and a quick find - thanks for bringing us here.
One of my two target caches for the day. I followed the track from the memorial stone. Thanks
4-week family trip through NZ - Find #160!This oldie cache was a "must have" on our trip. My son ChrisAngel99 and I found it , but not without some hiccups due to our own stupidity . First we accidentally walked a few minutes along the river before realizing that we should better take the road up the hill. Then, after successfully following the description and hint to the final area, we somehow ignored the (too?) obvious hiding place, and searched the bushes for a while .TFTC!
Took us a while, as we first walked a bit along the river before realizing it was the wrong way to the cache. After taking the correct path, we found the objects from the hint quite quickly, but we had to search a bit for the cache. In the end, my dad (baer2006) found it in a spot we probably could have found sooner. Great location, TFTC!
Trouve ! / Found it ! Aprs avoir trouv le chemin d'accs, c'est tout de suite plus simple. My third week-long getaway this summer has me down in Queenstown for a few days of supporting the New Zealand brewing industry (and support it I have) followed by a few days in Dunedin supporting some of the influx of students into Otago university. Its a tough week, with only minimal time for Geocaching, but this was one I found. My final find of this trip. I had to return the car I had borrowed to Queenstown before flying home and so planned my entire day around having enough time to drive from Dunedin and come here and find this old cache first.A beautiful day and a beautiful area to be in during it. An great way to end what has been an awesome trip in so many ways.---Thanks to Donovan for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.
Finally, I've made an attempt on Tobin's track. Started poorly by taking the wrong track at the top of the steps, and sent myself much further up the hill than required, missing the house entirely.I eventually got to a telegraph pole, but it had no cache to find and my location was pretty out. I tried up to no success, then down and around a muddy stretch to no avail. Back to the pole I found... following its direction downhill, I spotted a vague path. And there, across a field of blackberry, was a second pole. Down I go... no cache here either... wait, what's that out of place object? Ahah!I secured the cache back into a hiding place behind the notable object since it looked like it'd fallen downhill a little from there. And then walked down the obvious path to a lovely ruin and much easier way back to the track. What an adventure! Tftc!
An unintentional long walk to this cache. We set off to look for Wealth at the waterfall only, but then decided on a circuit to pick up Chums view & this one. Foolish as it was a hot day & wed not bought along water. Pretty exhausted by the time we made it down to Tobins, but not too tired to hunt out the cache. Spotted the telegraph pole among the trees & soon discovered the concealed cache close by. Great hide, thanks for placing.
We took the wrong track and ending up rerouting through some bush. Another smiley to add to the collection , thanks
21/9/2023 Find #6571Day 13 of the Fangsoki/1MinnieMoo New Zealand South Island adventure. The weather in Queenstown wasnt expected to be fantastic so we decided to head to Arrowtown so I could grab this cache. With the rain drizzling down, I hopped out of the car and put my waterproof jacket on to begin the walk. There was no one else around as I headed up the track, and the further up I got, all of a sudden I heard thunder. Oh great now would just be a fantastic time for some lightning too. Not!Arriving at the monument, I headed up, but apparently I head up the wrong track, as this one kept going up and up and about 20 metres out from the cache I realised I needed to be down over there. Now this was not all that easy with the rain and wet ground, and I had to carefully use the surrounding trees to ensure I didnt slip. Carefully, because, Bush Lawyer! But eventually I made it to the pole, and was also glad to be able to use the not-in-use wire to help me down the last bit to the rather obvious cache. Log signed, I headed down along the CORRECT track and, surprise, surprise, past Tobins Hut, then back out to the main track. Almost back at the river and all of a sudden a lady jogs past from behind me in the rain, giving me a jump. Gee thanks for the warning! Thanks for the cache GSVNoFixedAbode.
Great to get another old cache, thank you Donovan. Given the hint object at this location, I dropped off the modern-equivalent TB. We also added a loose page to the full log book. An interesting historical site thank you.
Very happy to get this one and fill a gap on my jasmer! Thanks so much for keeping this cache going so long! A lovely place I wouldn't have come to otherwise too. Thanks!!!
When i saw how old this cache was before i arrived in Arrowtown, it immediately became a target cache for my trip here.
So, when i decided on a short walk after setting my tent up at the campground nearbyish, and i was at the river below, it was obvious that i shoule continue my meander up the hill to hunt down this one.
A quick find at gz after expanding my search a little. A nice pleasant uphill walk past the ruined remains of tobins hut.
This cache is the first i've ever come across that was hidden in April 2001, which is a nice surprise to fill in another square of the jasmer grid, and it is also (at least temporarily) the furtherest east geocache i've ever found on the planet!
Thanks Donovan for hiding this cache here soooo long ago, and GSCNoFixedAbode for keeping it alive for us all to keep finding!!

spent 6 great weeks in New Zealand with my The start was a bit bumpy (Cyclone Gabrielle) but then it got better and better. We travelled to both islands and discovered a lot. We photographed and filmed many beautiful things, but most of it stayed in our hearts.
Almost everywhere we stopped, a cache was already waiting for us. Most of the caches are well maintained and easy to find.
With mostly very nice weather, we saw a lot of this impressive island. In many places, caches were waiting for us, which were sometimes easy and sometimes difficult to find. This cache was also included and was successfully signed
We puzzled a lot in advance and the tours were well prepared
So this box was also well found.
now I have another on my personal cache card.
many thanks to [^] **Donovan** [^] for the effort and the cache and greetings from Germany

This was on my list to do last time we were here but I somehow over looked it till today. Dropped grandies off at school & headed for this cache. Followed a group of ladies & dogs up Tobins track till my turnoff. Amazing what is now hidden by overgrown trees & bush.
Cache quickly located, log signed & returned to hiding place. Thank for bringing me here.
Amazed at the fortitude of our pioneer settlers. TFTC

Love finding little old bits in the bush like this. We defiantly took the hard way there opting to go at it in a straight line. When we got close enough to see clearer tracks we cut across. Thanks for placing the cache. The route out was far easier following the track allready there haha
Had to be very careful to get to this one after all the rain. Got to it eventually. Cheers.
Got to my gz with no joy. Widened search the spotted pole. As you can expect on the other side of the brambles. More scratches but got it.
2nd to last day down here with Keylev and a muggle friend. Enjoying the day walking around Arrowtown and the surrounding area! Bungy jumping at Gibbston?! I think not!
I went further up the wrong track which I shouldn't have. I spotted the telephone pole first but didn't know how to get to it. Doubled back and eventually found the ruin and back to the phone pole. TFTC

Its been a long time in the planning but finally the week long trip to the South Island to complete the Routeburn Track is here. Day #6 of the trip and this and tomorrow were to be our relaxation / chilling days post walk....yeah right...off we went on the trail for cache finding!!
Up the trail we went and took the higher route first before realising we were in the wrong spot....stretched our legs out after the Routeburn hike though! Corrected ourselves and soon had the cache in hand.
Thanks for the cache.

Wahoo ! ! this is worthy of my 7,000 th cache. As well as being placed in a month years ago- a month that i did not have !
We walked up slowly , and was rather slow as i went up, and came to the cairn and then turned and went up the steps and continued on up . On our way back down we found a much easier route to use if we had turned to the left instead of going straight up and then having to weave our way across and then down when we spied the ruins of the cottage. I took photos of the cairn and the cottage which i will also log. the cache was easily found once we found the disused power pole. all was dry in side the cache.
Thank you for the cache.
Another winter trip down to ski fields around Queenstown , Wanaka etc . and of course locating some of the newer caches or caches that had not been found on previous visits and so when the weather is not conducive to going up the mountains sight seeing was the next choice of action along with locating some of these caches . I am pleased to be able to change 3 blue faces to smiley ones this tour down here but it was disappointing that several of the Frankton to Queenstown cycle trail caches have been disabled and so the final of these is not found as yet .

Once u get to GZ you will find but the journey is difficult as we bush bashed through layer upon layer of thick brambles and and at the end our legs were sodden with cuts TFTC for the old ness and adventure
A great hide. We took the wrong way to start with but still ended up a ta telephone pole.
We back tracked from our bush bash and stumbled upon the ruins which then made finding the pole

Loved the walk up to this great old cache with the Autumn leaves all about. The cache is in good condition. Thanks Donovan and GSVNoFixed Abode. Enjoyed coming to find this one.
Great to be able to knock off an oldie like this one. I've cached in Arrowtown a couple of times before, but this escaped my notice. Wandered up the track with Mrs gonefising today, but made it a bit harder than it should have been by not getting the right track from the memorial. After getting with about 10m and spotting the hint object, we discovered an unappealing wall of blackberry between us and the cache. So we backtracked a bit and dropped down the hill, then spotted a nice easy track leading right up to GZ! Oh well, good fun anyway, and we found Tobin's house on the way out. As I said to Mrs gonefishing, these old ones usually have a higher adventure factor than modern caches.
Log book was full, but still plenty of blank spaces on several pages, so found a spot on the front page.
Thanks for keeping this one going. +FP for oldness and the old school adventure to find GZ.

M and Beeba went as my knee is giving me gip. They had a few adventures on the way taking the wrong track but eventually found the cache though not quite as the hint would suggest.
Well I made this one a lot harder than it needed to be. All I had read of the description was that it was a bit steep and obstructed so when my GPS ready 89 metres from GZ and I could see a sort of a track up a steep bank I assumed that was the steep bit so up I scrambled. I got nearly to the top and the bank gave way under my feet and all I had was one hand around a small tree the thickness of my thumb, I managed to get my other hand on to it as well and pull myself up enough to get a foothold then pull myself up the rest of the way still pulling on that poor little tree. I got up and followed what could very loosely be described a track for a few metres before it disappeared. There was no way I was going back the way I came so bush bashed through blackberries, fallen trees, other bushes and a little mud aiming for GZ, it wasnt until I was only a few metres away that I came out onto a track. Cache found quickly and then an easy walk out the way that I was supposed to have come in which was more like the T2 listed and not the T5 route I took. Worthy of a favourite for the adventure that I wont forget in a hurry. Thanks Donovan

Nice walk up here. Telephone pole blended in. Found with Hodge Podge. Fav point for location the age of it. Tftc
Day 16 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm still in catch-up mode)
Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.
I was last in Queenstown about 18 months ago when some friends of mine were touring around the South Island and I flew in to join them for a few days. I've been lucky enough to visit a few times now and yet the sight of the Remarkables never ceases to amaze me. My wonderful tour is nearing the end, and today I was planning on having a leisurely drive from Queenstown to Tekapo.
Arrowtown is always a favourite place to visit whenever I am down this way. Today was actually my first visit as a Geocacher so I was seeing it all again through different eyes. I had targetted Tobin's Track as a cache I wanted to get to help with my Jasmer Grid. When I arrived at the start of the trail there was a load of mad people with very big dogs doing some kind of photo shoot, but they weren't heading up the track so once I got past them I never saw them again.
Apart from 1 jogger, I had the track to myself so was able to make my way to GZ following the instructions and then conduct my search without any problems. The cache was an easy find. There were no issues with it, so the log was duly signed and the whole lot replaced as found before moving on.
Thanks for placing this cache.

Enjoying the 25th day of our 5 week road trip in NZ- greetings from Washington state. We are staying in Cromwell for 5 nights and today we came to visit Arrowtown. This cache was not on my list but when I saw how old it was, and there was another cache on the way to it, I decided I just couldn’t pass it up. Sent my gimpy, muggle hubby back to town and made the trek to it. Read the description and find the memorial first, then on to the ruins of the house and from there to the cache- easy peasy! A bit of a work out on this hot afternoon but it was fun. TFTC
Zowaar! After arriving in Queenstown (and NZ) yesterday, today is the start of the action. Better by bus from Queens to Arrow for a visit and an extended walk through town and along the river. A lot of caches to be found, and this one was nice becouse we wouldn’t have been here without this cache. I took the wrong way, at first so I made it a lot more difficult for myself than necessary. Found it eventually. Tftc, Simone (NL)
The main goal of our walk today was this cache. Again a cache of Donovan.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.
found this old cache the hard way ..parked a couple km up the track and walked down .. then had to walk up back out on this hot day. nice bit of history here. thanks!
Nice cache. On our way to the coords we passed a lost place building. The cache is placed next to another old object, nice

This was one of the old geocaches that was on my Wish list because we should pass by close to it. We parked and started to walk and realize this was going up... Unfortunatelly I didn´t read/remember all information before so when getting closer we took the hard way to GZ... we took the path back down...
Cache was found quickly when reading the hint (and realize we didn´t take the best way to GZ...)
Thanks for maintaining this old cache!

Finally our trip to New Zealand is real! We started with half a day in Singapore and then we continued to New Zealand before finalizing the trip with 2 days in Sydney.
We have been able to see a lot, fantastic nature, many different and new birds and also a "few" geocaches.
Thanks a lot for the cache - Greetings from Sweden!

We bushbashed up into the scrub from about 70m away, reaching GZ to find the cache had fallen a little from its hiding spot. Retrieving it, we signed the log and returned it to where it should be according to the hint. TFTC!
What an old cache. What a rainy weather. What a find.
This cache is sticking in my memory. *Dingo79* was on the wrong level, I was under him and therefore right. The cache was discovered and I could also reach it carefully. The log was written and everything was carefully hidden again.
Then - it went downhill. I slipped and on my stomach I went into the next bushes. OMG, mud was now everywhere, on clothes, on the GPS and also on the mobile phone.
see above - what a find!
I am glad that this oldie is still maintenanced.

Together with TEMBO! I had a really interesting geocaching-trip today. We could find some geocaches, met some locals and had a great talk to them.
Concerning this geocache I want to say thanks because we had much fun in searching and finding this geocache! The cache made our trip even more interesting!

This was on my hit list After a walk around the town centre, I walked along the river bank, crossed the bridge and followed the instructions. Quite overgrown in places but I made it and found the cache
Glad to get this cache found as it was a date much needed for our matrix. Was a slippery path after rain so we’re glad we brought along our walking boots. Cache is in good condition here and we signed the second logbook as the older one is full. Thanks for placing this cache and maintaining it.
Nice easy find, 6 minutes car to cache. Great to finally grab this oldie. Boneybruce was dead tired so didnt come up the hill with me this time. Great spot and history. TFTC!!!

* 20 years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* And it's 2020 - all the 20s!
Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](http://nzmega.com) - you won't want to miss it!

Maybe the last cache at our Holidays on NZ. The cache is still in good condition. Great what you can find just in between the bushes. Thanks for this old cache! TB: in
Super slippery after all the rain. Found it after a bit of a wrong turn.

After some back tracking and reading of previous finds, we came back down the track and then found a track taking us the right way!! Thankfully a beautiful sunny autumn day! TFTC
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on day 6 of our extended Easter holiday in Central Otago. Today we are heading to Queenstown and Arrowtown, our main objective: a couple of solved puzzles plus an old cache.
This was on the must find list. We started out well, found the monument and headed up that track. It was steep and slippery. Then we found ourselves above GZ, and no sign of the ruins. SW bravely bush bashed down hill, through blackberry vines, and found the right location, and the cache, while I carefully backtracked to look for the right path. It was not easy to spot, not far from where we left the main track.
Thanks for keeping this old cache going. Not many physical caches date back to 2001, so they are precious. TFTC.

#17026. This was the main target during our short visit to Arrowtown. A few metres from the monument we followed a more obvious track that went up the hill, and missed the track to the left the followed a contour. My GPSr was down to about 15m when I realised we'd taken a wrong turn. I busahed bashed a bit then spotted the pole. Heading directly to GZ wasn't a good option (lots of blackberries) so I went down and to my left until I got down far enough to avoid the blackberries. Once at GZ the cache was an instant find. TFTC.
Using hint was able to scan the area for what I needed. Bit of a slippery scramble. This cache typifies what I love about geocaching- taking me to lesser known spots with a story behind them. Thanks.
Well its amazing what you find in the middle of the bush. However did you find this pole?!? TFTC
