A fun detour off the main trail, soon found the item of interest, and then the cache, all good here, cheers
Thanks! We wouldn't have seen the mystery without geocaching and the big watchful Kereru was a bonus
Cache 1818 nabbing a few caches for the September solstice souvenir, I dont know why I havent collected half the caches in this little walkway, but today is the day, I wasnt expecting to find this stone here pretty cool I wonder why hmmmm anyway cache is in good shape T4TC
Just what we needed today, a stroll through some really nice bush to keep us out of the cold wind. And some smilies to add to the fun. It was a surprise, wonder why it is there? Cache is all good. TFTC
Whoever made this geo must have popped few pills, to have those two pill containers. Just joking, thank you.
The PMO filmcan is all good here. Heads up for those who use stamps that run on RITR paper. I periodically check the logs for any Prems who don't SL. Checked the two filmcans and inverted cache back in hide again to counteract seepage, returning the camo and duff again so it's not soooo obvious to prying eyes. The GZ gets visited often by muggles making their empty promises. Logbook dry and bagged. Plenty of activity in the woods, enjoy the new swing but don't fall in the holes.
**Wheep!** a handy WP tree on the interior trackside adit has been felled. The sidetrack shortcut to the cache has been left clear so at least the tree fell the right way. It was fairly rotten and bound to go at some stage anyhow. *Happy caching and thanks for the fav's.*

No plan today. Just escaping the racing roar of Teretonga and random caching in the area. Another good caching day was had. TFTC
With truck and car races at Teretonga we decided to escape the area and do a bit of caching away from the noise.
Thank you for placing this cache.
Thank you for placing this cache.
We were keen to get the Ad lab that was further along the track, but as this was a slight detour down a side track, it was included in the days target.
Examined the interesting object then StreetWalkerNZ made a quick find. TFTC.

#22066. We've found a cache at the walkway car park before, but I think this was the first time we've done some of the loop walk. We were pleased there was a good side track to follow to reach GZ (as the cache is some way from the main track), and once there made a quick find near the interesting object. TFTC.
Found with the help of the hint at this GZ. For future cachers, no need to bush bash - just follow the trails. All good with the cache, signed and returned as found. T4TC. Happy New Year 2023!
We walked past the track initially and had to back track.
Quite a surprise to find this here.
Thank for setting this up for us to find

This was a very mysterious find, would love to know the history. Out on a beautiful sunny day with Mr Cat and co. Tftc
Cache was exactly where it should be and we returned it to its spot, enjoyed listening to the kids hypothesise about the mystery object - was quite fitting that we found it on Good Friday. We found this one last, so was fun to bush bash back to the car - great fun.
We came to the Otatara Reserve today to try our luck at the caches here. We were with the kids and Gabby59. Parked up and hit the track, was expecting to see heaps of people as the car park was all but full, but only saw a few. TFTC

It is not what I was expecting to see in a scenic bush. Thanks for taking me to the site
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up at the NZMCA Invercargill campsite for a couple of days, exploring in & around the area … we went for a bit of a drive this afternoon & thought it would be rude not to check out the caches at the Otatara Scenic Reserve … found with no issues, log completed & cache returned … not sure what the cairn is for, but interesting never-the-less … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #2,218 for us.
Out with my sometimes helper Greg. Nice day to work of some of yesterday's calories. Cheers!
I need a certain number of caches today to meet a personal goal I have set for the next 12month period if Covid will allow. So I was out and about west of Invergiggle.
It looks like a religious object by having a cross on it. So is it a marker for a cemetery for the old timber workers, was there an old settlement here? Left behind by some visiting aliens?
Cheers for the cache.

I made a bit of a mess of this one. Firstly I overshot the track and had to backtrack a bit. Then the GPS took me way past an interesting feature to another different but still interesting thing. On the way I could smell cigarette smoke which I did think was strange and then I spotted a tent - although not keen I did search some likely spots that matched the hint. Not surprisingly there was no cache to be found. Not keen to be lurking, thrashing round any longer I decided to get out of there but decided to have a look around that first feature and I was absolutely stoked to find the cache there just as described. I had found a series that was here a few years ago. Heading in an anticlockwise direction after the sun had just disappeared. This looked as though it was off the track so I headed off, only to find a minor track that I didn't know of. Cache was soon found and business was completed. Quite a nice hide, been a bit different.
I was focussed on the fungi fest on the fallen tree and totally missed the junction till KR said was there a track and I had to say I'd only been looking at liverworts and lichen. Did not attempt leapfrogging mystery thing as it's quite a thing. Thanks for increasing my vocabulary. My English origin tells me that duff is something that you have with custard or you're up it. Google can get you off on other tangents too but all good at GZ! Tftc
A nice quick find thanks. Found the access from the track ok. Cheers.
Ms_KR and I are on the road to Southland to finish off the Southern PW GeoTour. Today we cruised around Invercargill. The place has changed a bit since we used to live there in the 80's, but then again it is still recognisable.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

*Another good find.
Nice day going from cache to cache with woolwood9.*
We soon had the container located. SL: **tm/ww NZ**
Thanks for putting this out for us to visit!
Very nice walk around the area!
Strangely abandoned area, enjoyed visiting the site - even had an old toilet nearby.
Log pretty damp so our stamp will probably only be a black smudge.

We didn't take the ideal route to this cache, starting up the track beside the school, then finding a rather dubious track towards the cache, however we got there and the cache was a quick easy find by the mysterious, apparently religious, object. The cache was quite wet, but the waterproof log was ok. TFTC
Still have some daylight left after doing the Big I series so stopped off here for a stretch of the legs. In the half light, the side track was not spotted at first but only one of us had gone past it, so called him back and we went down the side path wondering what we would come to. Is there a story behind this object? Anyway cache found and signed now time to go back to the caravan. tftc
Out for a walk around the reserve this evening making a few finds.
Intrigued to find this "monolith" deep in the bush.

Sunday 1 November. Back to finish exploring Sandy Point today after a wet day Saturday.
Toby, Zara and I are on a 3 week geo adventure of Cromwell, Southland, Catlins, Balclutha with a day in Dunedin and quick stop in Timaru. With Lenny, my trusty navigator and TBD my companion/mascot. we managed to visit lots of green boxes, now happy faces with the odd sad one. Did some LABs , earth caches, virtuals and wherigos, all chucked into the mix to rack up 500 odd caches. Lots of kilometers, lots of exploring and lots of fun. Thanks to all COs for our wonderful experience.

Totally soaked by now, we nearly missed the turnoff here. This was an interesting place, I’d love to know the history of the hint object. After a bit of casting about, and thanks to the hint, the cache was located. Thanks for placing this. Found with Debsnz.
Great place for a cache. Found it then realised I didn’t have my pen with me! Back to the car to retrace my steps which is fine as I needed to get my step count up!
Found on a caching two day journey into Central Otago and Southland with Bitsprayer. Really enjoyed the challenge of the puzzle caches and the many hours spent to unravel the coordinates. Also great to travel along the many roads in the area. Many thanks to the various cache owners for placing and maintaining their caches. Amazed to find this feature in the bush. TFTC
Our 365th cache for the year and our last for this decade. Amazed to find this in the middle of the bush here and cache was found quickly afterwards although it was hidden well. Cache all good, nice and dry and easily singable. TFTC LVL, a fav point from us for our monumental cache number. [^]
Found just as the rain came down. A quick find in an area I knew well in my youth. Tftc
The boys had the priority for caching today, just got this one in for myself. Tied Lizzie to a sapling close to the mystery object while I took a look around. Was just about to give up and untie pup when I spotted the hide right next to her! tftc
Found with the dog. Am loving all the birds here. All caches in great condition. Bizarrely I met today one of the granddaughters of Mr Fosbender who donated this land to the council many years ago. Thanks for bringing me here.
Down here from Auckland....on holiday with Walking mates .
Managed to do a little caching.
This was a good hiding place .
Found track easily.
Is that cross signifying a grave is there?

Got to explore this nice bush area on our last day.
On holiday in Southland with part of my West Auckland walking group.
Was with nette and Ric who had problems finding it....but luckily I was in the correct place for an easy find.
Many thanks.

In Invercargill for a ten pin bowling tournament, had Saturday morning to fine some caches around Oreti Beach and Otatara before my next game. I enjoyed the walk in this reserve. Thanks for the cache.
We missed the side track so had to back track a bit and a quick find at GZ thanks to the hint. This is one of those places that we would never have known about with geocaching. Thanks for bringing us here. Found withi AorakiSheep
Added my signature to the filmcan. Nice walk through the bush. Raceway fair roaring away today, glad I don't live over here with that cacophony carrying on. TFTC
well that one led me on a merry old search walked the whole track and was about to do it again but decided on the more direct route. found the toilet and the seat and the what in earth is that doing there as I scratched my head..... RANDOM .... this will be the third time I have come to invercargill and grabbed a cache that's wasn't there last time I was here nice place for a cache and a whatever that object was here for TFTC
Well that's an interesting object! I wonder what its history is? Found with CatseyesNZ who is visiting from Christchurch. I have the others in this reserve so we left this one until last. TFTC
Found with ThelittlesNZ.we were hoping for some relief from the heat with some rain, but two drops was all we got. Wondering what the history of the mystery object is? Tftc
How random is that. Certainly has you thinking "Why here & Whats it for?"
Nice walk in. TFTC

Visiting Invercargill for the holidays so decided to have a look around. Only had my phone today and the accuracy was +/- 50m... That made finding the cache in the area rather difficult, but I eventually got them all! TFTC.
So many years running around this bush and this is cool. Never seen it before. Tftc
It's the 'silly season' and in town for an evening gathering. Came in earlier to grab a few more caches on the way to 2000 by the end of the year. This is the target area for today. After the gathering thus was close -
Thanks for the smilie.

Found it with the Chosens on another of our dot days. Parked up and took the geo dogs for a wander through the bush to cool off after a scorcher of a Southland day. Nice and cool walk to GZ. Signed log and replaced in its hide.

I remember the CO asking me about this place some time ago so I anticipated finding the object. Should have got this one yesterday as I was at the end of Grants Road, but forgot about it, so a visit after work today was needed. TFTC. Still no wiser why it is there. Seems to have a seat nearby.

FTF - early start today and yah a new cache to search for . Stumbed onto the mystery object about 20 mins before I found my way back there again after reading the hint lol
So it was a reasonably easy find initially eventually logged at 7.39 am
TFTC - had no idea there was a grass area in the bush here

Not something you expect to find from the bush. Straightforward find even with the old coords. TFTC.
The decision was made after tea, to go get this newbie along with a McDonald's sundae. The obvious object was quickly found, but cache took a bit of hunting. Finally found, although coords had me 23m away. Took a reading, which in turn was 23m difference. My reading was S 46 25.836 E 168 17.591. Thanks for the smiley.
Such a beautiful night for a stroll, so decided to have a hunt for this newbie. Co ords took us approx 23 metres away from the cache, but we backtracked and went for the obvious. TFTC
