It was lovely weather today, and I enjoyed walking in the Gossan Hill Park area for caches.Nice muilt and add up to next final stage. Nice spotted and signed the log with good dry. TFTM
I decided after the CITO today I'd make good use of the weather today and pick up some caches in the area.Collected the information for this cache nice and easily, and went along to collect it on my way back around. Love a good simple single offset by the always reliable Tankengine, thank you for the cache!!
2nd of 7 found todayI was a bit confused at the starting point in more than one way. No objects as I'd seen in the photo. A quick read fixed this one. Secondly my checksum was way too high. Ah, reading again and all was good. I swear I used to have great reading comprhension.MAde the nessesary adjustments and then off the meet the cache. A quick find with good coords and the cache is in good condition.TFTC Tankengine and the FNQ.
Visited the hill today for the Earth cache and noticed this multi while I was up here. Alas the cairns have been removed (what a shame!), but the requisite information can still be collected and the cache is in terrific order at ground zero. Was looking in the wrong spot for a while before I cast the net a bit wider. Thanks!
Found It!
What happened to the cairns? Collected the numbers then wandered over to the final location. It took a bit of searching but eventually I found the cache!

TFTC. Lovely walk through Gossan Hill. Got there and realised that I left my pen at a previous cache, so photo as proof of find.
Its good to see that the homes for lizards and bugs have been spread back out again. But I do remember seeing big piles like this in other places. That's got to be hard work lugging rocks up here.
A bonus nice extra stroll to the gz and a quick find when I looked at the correct height.
Thanks for the fun TS.

Strolling around Gossan Hill today and picking up a few caches along the way! Fields of paper daisies everywhere
Another multicache led Decrypter and I to Gossen Hill, and so we also added this one to the outing. No problem with working this out and then off for the walk to make the find, although Decrypter had already found this one before. TFTC Tankengine.
A pleasant stroll this afternoon up the hill where the information was quickly gleaned and I popped over to my calculated GZ to make a straightforward find.
I signed the last proper space on the log - there is room for future finders to write on the sides, but it would benefit from replacement at some stage in the not-to-distant future.
Thanks, Tankengine!

Missed the cairns, but found the cache, great location for a cache, enjoyed the climb, TFTC Tankengine
Calculated GZ a while back and found today. What a nice location and soon had the log signed. TFTC Tankengine! Sad that I missed the Cairns!
Needed a multi today and with plans to head out to UC to try the AL on a public holiday, this was my choice. Haven't been up this hill for a few years. GZ was sorted and once there it took a few minutes to make the find. I think the nearby fallen took my attention for a while, but once I looked at the GPSr again, I could see why I was having trouble. All good though and my initials were soon on the log.
Thanks again TE.....always like a multi like this. Cache all good.

Another day. Another cache. Quick find and no problems solving puzzle. Tftc
Easy find, the cairns have been taken so the last question can be tricky. Thanks
I rode through Gossan Hill on the way home. The cairns were most definitely missing at GZ, but the final coords could be determined through checksum deduction At GZ a TE style clue gave things away pretty quickly. I think you must be keeping the tube and metal suppliers in business!
Found after doing some nearby cache maintenance. Considering how close WP1 was to a nearby traditional, I decided to give it a go despite it becoming a bit darker (and colder). It took a few minutes to feel confident on my coords (required some proofreading of the calculations on the listing) and came up with two sets within 10m of each other. The hinge question caught me up; and my vision was very blurred for some reason today so I wasn't really definitive on the number of cairns I saw: thankfully, the checksum was super helpful! It was then a lovely stroll to GZ where I felt confident early that I had the right area: sure enough, it was the first place I searched. A cool multi - TFTC TE!
#11764 - 11:09:00 AM; Dropped the geohoney off to catch up with a friend and then headed off to do this multi. Made may way around the hill gathering the required info as I went. Managed to come up with a decent looking set of coords and after checking a couple of options near GZ, managed to locate the cache and sign the log. Plenty of roos around too. TFTC Tankengine
Phone began to not respond at GZ, luckily we are good finders and worked it out without using the GPS too much. A lovely walk and quick find s aad that the cairns are no longer there but thanks to the checksum easy enough to do. TFTC
The final of another Multi brought me up here, so I couldn't resist looking for this one as well. Always wanted to come up here.

Decided I'd stop by this cache after whilst in the area today, as it looked good. No issues at wp1, and was lucky to find the cache in the first place I looked, TFTC!
For my personal challenge of filling my multi calendar I had this relatively easy cache in my sights despite having been up this hill three times already. No complaints - if I had done them all on the same day I wouldn't be able to complete the calendar. A quick find at GZ thanks to good coordinates. TFTC TE SL
After a rush weekend home, it's back to Canberra to catch up on the caches I missed.
Log signed and cache replaced as found on March 9, 2021. TFTC, Tankengine.

Out with RoddyC/Hatzofff to find a few caches today. We gathered the numbers at GZ and headed to the final. Signed the log and returned to where I found it. Thanks Tankengine. All good with this cache and multi.
Out today to get catch some caches on our 5th day in Canberra with RoddyC and Team Benders.
Today's mission was to do at least one of the oldies. A little side tracked are we.

Parked nearby at Radford and walked around and up to the posted coordinates.
I encountered a number of roos on the way up. At one stage I had a large male each side of the park standing tall and eyeing me off. I hoped they were relatively comfortable with humans as I skirted my way around them.
Worked out the answers and came up with a set of coordinates.
I didn't quite get the checksums to work, so I must have been missing something with regards to G, so used the sums the complete my coords.
Off to the GZ and my GPS was playing games but eventually seemed to get focus and led me to the search area. It must have been OK as I found the cache without too much time spent on the hunt.
Thanks Tankengine.

Once the honorary pantspeople member for the day and us had located the sign referenced in the cache description, and double-checked our working, we bush-bashed over to the top of Gossan Hill. Checking out a few different spots eventually had us with the cache in hand. TFTC TNLN
Out walking with nibletricecakes to pick up this cache we solved a little while ago. TFTC
After a couple days of festivities it was time to stretch our legs. So K8TYBEE and I decided to tackle the cairns! It was a hot afternoon for a walk but we were jollied along by the birds. A fast find at GZ also revealed a family of termites determinedly trying to eat the cache lol they are never going to win that battle lol. A lovely way to spend Boxing Day afternoon. Thanks for the cache!
It had been a while since I'd been up here, so was pretty sad to see that the cairns had been removed! A careless mistake took me down the hill. After correcting my error it was time to do a U-turn and head back up. Once there the find was a cinch!
We absolutely loved this cache. after doubting our coords over and over, there it was. thanks for the checksum. helped immensely. lovely area. have never walked around here. tftc
Found today on a beaut walk. We had trouble finding the answer to G but the checksum worked a treat. Thanks to the CO for confirming we had correct coords too. CIGC

Have not been up here before and never knew there were two hills behind Bruce. Wonderful views and so great to be outside and able to walk in the bush. Saw a couple of people but not many. Thanks for getting me out and about Tankengine
A very nice walk up the hill, somewhere I haven't been to before. Collected most of the answers at WP1 then had to make a guess about the number of cairns. I managed to substitute 'crop circles' and got the checksum to agree. Then a good wander to GZ for a quick find. TFTC TE.
I felt like going for a geowander after work so decided to swing by this one.
At WP1, most of the information was straightforward however I had to make an educated guess for F. Thankfully my GZ sums looked good on the GPS so off I went. Made the wander up to GZ and after a few moments searching I found the cache. Not at the altitude I was expecting but the camo made sense considering the components of what this cache is about
Thanks for the wander, Tankengine

Well this multi-cache has been "in process" for about a year now!
I actually went to WP1 and collected the information for GZ about a year ago..... whilst I was in the middle of a caching streak! I did this in preparation for a quick-find that was close to home when I needed it, but time went by and I never needed to find this cache on my streak!
That streak ended about 6 months ago now, and I forgot about this cache. But last night I saw Mr Windy post an article about it in the Facebook page and that the cairn's have been demolished! This prompted me to come and find this cache today, who know's maybe TE will deem this cache no longer relevant, so I decided to come secure the find after doing the work for it.
Thanks Tankengine, once at GZ it was a quick find A great spot and idea for a cache

Tftc. After a disappointing DNF nearby, Mrs Jaybeem and I did the calculations for this one and I trudged up the hill for a quick find. Top spot.
Those really are large piles of rocks. They remind me of a tree full of rocks at The Pinnacle. Why??? TFTC
Checking the mail today, lets make a small detour. Worked out the details without issue, nearly blown away though, windy and a little exposed up there. Headed over to GZ for a quick find. TNLNSL TFTC
Cache 4776 on 3 Mar 2019.
After a long and complicated day yesterday, today was quiet by comparison, and only one cache needed for the day. This multi has been on my nearby radar for far too long and it was time to knock it off! So late afternoon we headed to it, taking advantage of the long shadows to break up the still hot sun. Numbers sorted easily enough although one caused a bit a bit of head scratching, then off to GZ. Got a bit leg scratched as well getting there, but it was obvious where to look when there. Cache found in good order and according to the hint. Nice one Tank

On my way back to the event at the club at "Jammo" (yes, I had already been there for something else earlier in the day
Decided I still had time to come for a walk and do this one, so, I came and got the info, and found it ...
TFTC - nice walk, nice spot, nice easy cache ... spent a while up here actually - mostly taking photos of stuff
And I think I recall a now archived cache up here, where the description said to add another rock to the cairn ... which might explain why these cairns are so collossal? lol

Another toughish find for the newbies, but we got there! Bit of goats track walking involved!
First Multi-Cache find! Easy find but hard walk in the heat! Good little spot and a very useful clue! TFTC
What a day, this was the last one and I think the brain just wanted to speed read and miss important addition to the calculation. Ended up a 100mts thatawy... give your self aback slap. Once that was sorted it was an easy find.
As the suns setting there’s animal activity, loads of magpies, rabbits, kangaroos and even a fox made an appearance.

I haven't been up here for a while (also been to GZ before). A great spot to watch the approaching storm. Information gathered and then off to GZ where the cache was quickly found.
Thanks,
Thanks,
I came here for a different cache but all I got was a DNF so I wandered over to this one and despite the threat of a storm and getting stuck in a downpour I continued on, determined to get my daily cache (#178). Once I arrived at the colossal cairns, I quickly set to obtaining the required answers. Once I had the final coords, I ran off to collect the cache. I was late for dinner and at any moment the heavens might open and absolutely drench me. Not long later I had CIH.
This is my first time up to the top here and again it was another pleasant surprise. The view was great (and ominous with the black clouds rolling in). TFBMH and TFTM

Gathered the data on what I thought might be the top of the hill but, no of course there was a little more work to do to get to GZ. Not too much though. Impressed with the Cairns and the view too. TFTC Tankengine
First multicache we have ever done. Was fun. Nice walk and good views. Even saw kangaroos relaxing.
Our work team have joined for a group marathon. We have a goal for walking each day so I'm using caching to gain my kms. Was a nice afternoon for a walk and I was greeted at the hill top by some kangaroos.
Cache found quickly in good condition.

I went for a short walk on Gossan Hill and was happy to get two caches, one of them a multi. As usual for a TE multi, great care must be taken reading the questions. It is a pity the Garmens do not show the questions as clearly as they are on the website. Oh well, I managed to get a set of numbers that matched the checksum and I was confident of. The walk over to GZ was the wrong direction, but it just made for a better walk. A bit of a rubbish dump as GZ, but the cache was there and I took some of the rubbish away.
Thanks.

Left work early to pick up a few puzzles. Had a nice walk as the sun goes down. Thanks for bringing me to this interesting place.
16,408. Found during a meander around Canberra today visiting various types of caches.
I cast my net far and wide today on the hunt for some caches. I have been eyeing off this multi for a while so decided to have a go today. Parked in one of the side streets and wandered up to WP1. Wow - amazing Cairns ! Gathered the required info, calculated GZ, checked again just to be sure, then headed off to GZ for happily a quick find. Signed the log, replaced the cache, and headed off to the next one.
Thanks Tankengine !! One of two of your multis ticked off today. This was the shorter one

I thought the dog and I should do this cache before the Weeds and Seeds destroy it. I am glad I came the cairns are wonderful, well worth the effort. Working out the coords was easier than I expected and the cache in good condition. Thanks Tankengine
Indeed I was wrong. Redid my calcs and returned today to discover the cache is safe and sound. Tftc. Tank engine.
The cairns are mighty and got to GZ but there has been backburning around GZ and a number of trees and surrounding area have been burnt out. Might be worth a look. Thanks for the cache and bringing me here. Nice spot.
I did love those cairns must have taken some effort to construct them. I notice that the cairns are to be removed over the coming months.
Only problem was with A there are no numbers on the top sign only words, soon figured that one out though. TFTC.

Geohound needed a walk and so we returned to this nice area. Found the cairns, did the sums, and were soon on our way to GZ. A quick find once there and yep nice views. Tftc!
Collected details the other day for this cache, but I didn't bring my phone on the ride (but I was prepared enough to bring paper and pen)
Co-ords were derived easily, and correcting GZ on the map showed that I had a good run around Gossan in my future
Today was that day, and a bit of a bush-bash through the trees, cache was found.. Almost lost my bike on the return!
Oh yeah, that's a really big cairn. I'm going to call it the BFC

Found after a ride and a walk. I kept having flashbacks to Badja's old multi. Not sure why so much of that old one has lodged in my mind.
At the listed coords I collected the required info then calculated GZ. A short time later I was signing the log.
Thx TE for highlighting this beaut spot.

Found with Trodectus.
Took me a while to notice that I had not logged this one (only about a year)
We were pleased that there was a replacement for the old multi that was here. We were in fact the last to do it before it was archived by the CO and I was asked to remove the old cache and way-point containers which I have reused elsewhere.
This was a good replacement for a place that really deserves a good multi.[^][^][^]
I should point out that Gossan Hill is a great place to see various species of beautiful native orchids particularly in spring.[^][^][^]
This gets a favourite from me.

Found with Decrypter. The last time we'd walked this area was doing another multi that's since been archived. We arrived at the posted co-ords and we easily collected the necessary info. Then off to GZ where D quickly spotted the hide. TFTC.
Cache is in our backyard so with MuggleHusband we took an evening stroll on our way to MuggleSon's home on the other side of this 'paddock'. We have seen these piles of rocks grow over the years and recently read the CT Tim the Yowie Man article. The South Bruce community also have an email blog so it was interesting to read the local people's thoughts on this matter. Quick and easy find. TFTC Tankengine.
Funny how things happen... the geohubby showed me a news article in the Canberra Times the night before this cache came out. It showed this exact cairn and a satellite image of it a while ago, compared to it now and how much it has grown.
This morning Aquilus1 and I thought we would check it out and pick up this new cache too. We sorted the coords out easily then headed to GZ where the cache was found quick enough. We then had to walk briskly back to the cars so Aquilus1 could get to work. Tftc!!!

I almost made the dash across for the ftf chase, almost. As tempting as it was and as much as I was sure I could do it, I was also needed to adult today and had some pressing deadlines and timings that may not have quite worked.
So this morning with dty73 with another deadline just as tight but not as important across we came. I wasn't aware of the cairns here so was surprised at the size of them. Collected the information easily enough, check sum matched and then the decision of can I head that far away from my car and get back again in 9 minutes. Seems it did take a touch longer but made up the difference along the way and still arrived where I was needed right on time! Phew!
Looks like I could have made it yesterday after all but quite enjoyed the visit this morning, sure got the legs working at the pace set and a good way to start the day! Thanks for the cache Tankengine.

I am not a fan of multi caches but runner5ive and Dwcided to do this one on an evening stroll. After taking rhe very log way to the GZ we did the honours. TFTC.
Got the call from Miss Stormcatcher that there was a local Tankengine multi on the radar, initially decided to leave it, but the weather was too nice and temptation too great not to head out for a quick urban bush walk (and worked out well in the end). Anyway not very quick out of the gates and half expected a group of Geocachers dancing around the Cairns in some ritual to the FTF gods, but as it turns out I had the place to myself as a made a short walk from the old Bruce side of Gossan Hill ! Brings back a lot of memories of school cross country carnivals being up here again. The cairns are very impressive, and would definitely qualify highly in the cairn building competition on the Stormy Catchment II cache
I hit the jackpot on this one.... a new pathtag (which are always cool) but the big ticket item was an Oregon 750t... I have always wanted on of them, as I am operating a 600t. The 750 is significantly lighter than my 600t, not sure why. I turn it on and I am greeted by very battery faded text saying "STORMCATCHERS GPS... if found call xxx"... bummer, I guess I will have to buy my own if I want one.
The cache was very topical of course with this cairns being in the news this last few days. Of course GZ was in the opposite direction to where I parked, but not too far. When I got there I really struggled to get the lid off, STORMCATCHERS or Flintstones are clearly strong!
Thanks for placing this cache.

Didn't expect to be back so soon, and an unexpected extension of my caching today. Big Thanks to CBR_Grahams for finding our GPS, Mr Stormcatcher would probably lose his head if it wasn't screwed on.
Great 1/1 star hide with a great hint too, GPS now safely back.
