Headed up to Christchurch on Boxing Day for a 3-4 night caching trip, have to be grateful that despite overseas travel plans scrapped for now, we can still move around our beautiful country. Chatting to friends and family overseas, I feel very blessed and want to make the most of our earned freedom. I find caching is a great way to unwind and allow me to recharge ahead of the marathon which will be 2021.

After resting up from the drive up I wanted to push a bit further north from Christchurch to get some caches I need for my JASMER grid and to pick up some solved puzzles.

Thank you to all of the cache owners for the caches enroute.

For this cache; spotted on my second loop around. Very clever camo, can see why earnt so many FP. Added one too and dropped a TB.

***[======== NZ Mega 2020 ========](http://nzmega.com)***

[NZ Mega 2020](http://nzmega.com) is definitely happening, but has been postponed until 2021. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 22 to 25 October 2021. It's going to be a massive celebration of geocaching:

* 20+ years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20+ years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* All the 20s and now 21 as well!

Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](http://nzmega.com) - you won't want to miss it!

Great hiding spot. TFTC!

Down in Christchurch with the Squirrel, ABCDF4 and eyespyben. During Covid lockdown, we solved a load of puzzles and decided that this would be a good time to visit. We've enjoyed a few days of good weather and seeing the Canterbury countryside. The caches have been in varying states - some good, some not so much. Our time here has been a blast, and we'd like to thank all COs who have made this adventure possible. Thank you and TFTC.

With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Logging all finds as Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa - Our hometowns)... During Covid-19 lockdown, we solved a truck load of puzzles around Christchurch - Canterbury region. No use thrashing the old grey matter for no cause - We decided we should make good on this handiwork...

There are lots of interesting trails and geoart surrounding Christchurch. What you aren’t told is how far flung some of these caches actually are. Some beforehand advice would have been great, so here are some of my notes... You’re welcome!

1. Mobile coverage is patchy, especially in those quiet, rural areas where it was most needed. Saving caches to offline might show that you are prepared and organised...
2. There are many dusty metal roads on the trails. The car will get messy, and your hair will feel like cardboard at the end of the day...
3. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential. You will climb in and out of hedges, gorse, and other rough stuff. You might get scratched, cut to shreds, and bleed a lot. It’s not advised to wear your brand new jacket on the day...
4. Take lots of food and drink. You’ll probably be head down, tail up and not realise you haven’t eaten until late afternoon. There are very few shops or gas stations out there...
5. Make sure that you secure keys and wallet and know where these are placed for easy retrieval. A full box of pens might be useful too, especially if you’re inclined to free some into the wild...
6. Know the difference between left and right, and north, south, east, and west. Turning right and heading north will not get you to South Christchurch quickly.
7. Look with girl’s eyes rather than boys eyes... Some caches haven’t been found in a while and you might have to get down on your knees to pray.
8. Always be prepared for misleading hints. This is what turns simple caches into D5/T5 hides... “Head height” could mean the cache is positioned at your toes.
9. Have a sense of humour and like the people you go caching with. It’s going to be a very long day, and you might want to hurt someone during the journey...
10. Make sure you can operate your phone/device and it doesn’t crash when you most need it...
11. Learn to cut and paste logs because you’re going to repeat this function so often when logging all of your finds.
12. Above all else, have fun and be kind...

We have another one of those punishing plans to cache until we drop - An early morning start with the hope that we'll finish at a reasonable time... From South Christchurch, we took Highway 1 and crossed the Waimakariri River into Northern Christchurch... It's a pity there are no more apples here, but that's the price of progress. It took a moment to work this one out. One of the best finds thus far. Thanks ThrowersOnTour and TFTC.

After puzzle solving in the Canterbury region along with EyeSpyBen we were invited to join Fap (from Fap & Gap) and Squirrel Nutcase to a week long caching adventure in the Canterbury area. With flights and accommodation booked were off, all met up in ChCh. and many hard dusty Kms travelled and many caches found, I think the Squirrel has said it all in his brief. Many thanks for the placements and Cos for bringin us to the very pleasant areas we travelled in to your region

We approached this with some trepidation as there were a lot of barking neighbourhood dogs (and neighbours) out and about. We approached what we thought might be a hide, but the top seemed fairly well stuck down. We then spend a considerable time looking around before returning to object 1. With a bit of effort the top was prized off. That was indeed it... On returning to the car, we were just about to drive off, when a cyclist pulled up. It was the CO, checking to see whether we had managed to find the cache. We had, and we reported that we were on our way to his next one. Many thanks for this crafty camo, ThrowersOnTour!

01-Mar-20
Out and about on a March madness numbers weekend.
Thinking about dinner so I've ended up caching towards Mandeville, as one does.
Dinner now in the car. How about another couple of finds before I get back to the accommodation.
A tricky wee hide. It took a bit of head scratching. Must have been the fading light!!!

Well found by my grandson without getting the clue!! TFTC

Mum had her Lion's Cabinet meeting in Amberley yesterday so on the way home today we combined some cache maintenance with caching for the last of our Mystery of the Museum finds. We had made a list of caches 'on the way home' and this wasnt on our list but after our last cache was a DNF I looked up what was closest and saw this. We drove 6km out of our way and it was spitting again when we got here. Both Mum and I had touched the container but dismissed it at first feel. We wondered what the neighbors think of random people coming in here but think if they came to investigate would still be none the wiser. Adding a fav - it was worth the 12k out of the way. Thanks for the effort involved in placing and creating this cache for all of us to enjoy. Smile

Definitely stealth needed here!

Wanted to find some caches preferably if possible, as I wanted to colour my calender in darker, but life is so busy & with not so many caches close to home it's not super easy!

But I had a chalkboard from facebook to pick up, and so we headed out for a drive, and I noticed there were two caches along the way-ish that we could stop for! Great! Smile

A pretty easy one here. Smile

TFTC!! Smile

24-Feb-19
A quick and easy find. The screw top lid of the container was a metre or so away, so I put it back on. Cheers

We planned a wee walk and a drive to Oxford today as the weather was supposed to be rubbish. Turned out to be pretty good apart from the 2TF in the rain at Rolleston.

Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

24-Feb-19
Thanks for my 500th. Another 16,000 like that and Karma Reprint will be worried. Oh no, he doesn't worry about things like that! Tftc

Team Warfi, Jude_E and Nosynel were on a mission. Our mission was Ryde Falls. Warfi being a Waimak resident had done all the park and grabs but hadn't done the walk. So we found those together and Warfi guided us on the others.
Jude_E had found this earlier. A clever hide.

Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au

Tricky tricky

10-Aug-18
Sure is in plain sight. Glad the residents are away. A Fav from me SmileSmile

10-Aug-18
To keep up with my personal challenge of achieving a minimum of 10 caches finds per day I needed to find just 1 cache today. This being one of the equal -closest unfound trads to my home I rode my bike there on this coldish morning. Nicely constructed cache gets a Fav from me. TFTC.

04-Aug-18
Very cool hide! Sadly no apples indeed, I wish people would plant more food rather than lawns. TFTC!!

28-Jul-18
Wee adventure on Saturday afternoon. Thanks for the hide.

28-Jun-18
On a work trip to Christchurch for a couple of days. Today I had some spare time to go off and find some caches. I managed to get myself to "Yeti Level" today. Plus a few more caches on my way to the next Hidden Creature. Cool cache indeed. Very nicely put together. TFTC, Biggles.

10-Jun-18
A very crafty well designed cache! Dropped off a TB. Thanks for the cache.

Did a ninja mover here. TG and I were out on a Monday Mad Mission checking on a few of our caches and we diverted to get this cache for me. It was dark and the neighbours were up and there were no curtains! TG dropped me off and I headed to GZ. Doh, no pen. I waited for TG to get back I quickly signed the log and headed back to GZ in the dark and replaced the cache. Good cache. Crickey have to becareful with the neighbours. Fav from me

Thanks for the cache ThrowersOnTour.

Quick find clever hide. Was being watched my the neighbours across the road for a time but managed to sneak out of the car and around the back while they were away from the window. Nice hide. First day of Autumn! GLB1721 TFTC (4300)

31-Mar-18
Daddy day care was on duty as Mrs SB was catching up with old friends. We visited friends at the Mandeville domain who were showing their dogs and then called past to grab this clever cache. A nice custom job, thanks for the cache ToT!

21-Mar-18
7769. Out this way on an errand today so checked a few of our caches and found this new one as well. Amazing building progress in the last few months! Very easy find but a beautiful hide. Very clever. No sign of the neighbourhood watch! Saw the reason for the cache title as we drove out. Thanks for the cache. Rodney and Iris.

14-Mar-18
TFTC. Lovely day for a run away from city life.
Excellent cache container.
A favourite point from me.
Thanks Throwers on tour

12-Mar-18
All became clear about the Apples once we saw the new subdivison's name..We felt a bit conspicuous
getting to GZ,but quickly noticed something not normally seen,so didn't have to linger..TFTC

03-Mar-18
#15182. This one had popped up since we were last in the area (just like the subdivision!). It was pretty quiet at GZ not long after nine on a Saturday morning (a dog walker did come past, so I hunkered down behind the transformer). The outer container was easily spotted, and the nicely hidden inner container was quickly uncovered. A very well constructed setup! TFTC.

03-Mar-18
Found with StreetWalker on a jaunt to Oxford, Ashley Gorge and Glentui, mopping up a few caches in the area.
We know this area pretty well after chasing various Lolly Scrambles and Fruit and Vege loops over the years, but I never cease to be amazed at the various residential developments that pop up here. Don't remember this one! Very exposed getting to GZ, but once there, we were nicely tucked away while doing the paperwork.
Nice hide, so left a TB here. I thought Emma the sheep would like the rural surroundings. Thanks for the effort with this one. TFTC.

27-Feb-18
This is a real beauty well constructed and placed in a lovely new area. TFTH

22-Feb-18
A fun find and quite stressless. There was absolutely no one around and it was around 1500 hours. loved the container and the chase. Thank you.

18-Feb-18
I suspect it would be good if the CO (or someone) went and had a chat to the guy across the road, and tell him what's going on. He was keeping a very good eye on us, and is probably going to get a bit iffy as more people turn up to this rather exposed spot. nice cache, thanks

18-Feb-18
Felt very exposed and uncomfortable here. Agree with warfi- a word with the neighbour might help/ A clever cache. Thanks

18-Feb-18
Nice! Tftc Smile

17-Feb-18
Made like we were viewing a section to buy and taking a wander around. TFTC

Sneaky sneaky catch-y the tiger...or, in this case, a cache. And a nice one at that.
Saw the publication earlier in the night.. and with no logs by late evening thought a wee drive was in order. What better than a night sneak in a mugglish area. Performed a driveby and spotted a target at gz...but with flash houses lit up here there and everywhere and no where to park i wasnt keen to arouse too much suspician. So sneaky cat burgler me parked up on McHughs and walked in (without torch)....hit gz...and using shielded light made the quick find and sign. Wandered back out in the dark too. Very conspicious spot night or day...hope the COs house is nearby??!
Cool cache! Cheers. Time to tootle home. Well worth the drive and walk.
