Sir_Spectre and I went for a long weekend over to Victoria, we hosted some events and CITO's and was really impressed by all the people that made the effort to join us. Any caches that needed attention got it, with many log books being replaced or extras sheets added as needed.Logging with permissionThanks to all who placed and maintained caches for us to find

Logging with approval. Soved during the Coffee at Sunset event. The co was at the event and gave approval. Nice location for a earthcache. Found with Mogni. The plan this October Long Weekend was to head over to Victoria and host 3 CITO's plus host my first geocaching event, also increase my finds to 20 in at least 5 victorian LGA's. Given that we were caching in the country alot of km's were travelled. The weather was raining on and off all saturday including the night time but by luck all 3 events that day were dry. The first CITO ( and the cache of the trip ) was in Kaniva at the wetlands, the next in CITO was in Dimboola at one of the rest areas, and placing a future challenage cache then slowly making our way to wycheproof canavan park which was our accomadation for the weekend and then up to Mount Wycheproof ( the smallest registered mountain in Australia - at 43metres tall ) for my coffee and sunset event. Sunday started off with a early 630 am CITO in the Mount Wycheproof wetlands reserve ( sorry i did forget about daylight savings when i made the time for the event but it was a dawn and light still ). Now off to swan hill ( which is my least favorite LGA to cache in ) and then a few more LGA's and back to the tent in the dark well past dinner. Then it was slowly heading home via the silo arts works along the way and walpuep and then over the border to pinaroo and home. We went through over a milk crate of spare containers and got 2 and 1/4 garage bags of cans and bottles. Any caches that were found broken/cracked/etc were replaced and any full log books were replaced.

The beginning of a short trip to SA with ConnieandRic.Today was the long drive to Loxton from home.An AdLab and a few caches found along the way. Slipped the car into 2WD for the big drive up the mountain. Luckily the road was dry so there was no slipping and sliding.A surprisingly good view for such a small mountain.A nice break in the drive.Answers on their way (soonish)Thanks, Robmc.

24-Sep-24
A nice short stop on our way to SA with Robmc. How interesting to be able to name a unique type of rock as late as the 1990s. Loved the sculpture at the top too Answers sent and off we go to our next stop.

Today I was in Wycheproof catching up with a dear friend for a coffee and a well deserved chat.As I was leaving I thought, you know, with it being about 32 degrees at the moment, it seems to be the ideal temperature to go mountain climbing. After acclimatising myself at basecamp for a while I took on the necessary sustenance, nourishment and hydration to tackle this fine example of one of Mother Nature's rocky behemoths. As I looked skyward, I gulped.Could I, a mere mortal man made of flesh and blood (some bone, skin, hair, dentine and other vitreous gel like substances), actually slay this beast today? Was I prepared for any sudden changes in weather? High above ground level the freezing upper reaches of the atmosphere could give me frostbite. Was I prepared? What about oxygen, do I need it or do I just go rogue and try to extract every O2 molecule using nothing but pure lung power?I felt the fear drape over my body, like a theatre curtain plunging uncontrolled from above onto the unsuspecting cast of a second rate Shakespearian production below. Was I good enough? I mean I know I am a bit of a machine (I know this as true as a bloke I played hockey against once called me a F#*&ing tool.....I knew what he meant) but could I succeed?Fear pervaded the air much the same way that the smell of buttered popcorn from the snack bar wafts through a cinema multiplex.I gulped. Then I coughed and spat out that fly that got into my mouth.I gulped again.Step by step I trudged upwards. Each time my foot came down I sought solid ground beneath it. I vowed I wouldn't end up a lifeless corpse like all those bodies before me that still litter this mountain. I had to push myself but with each step the task seemed more difficult. The thinning atmosphere, the change in temperature and the blizzards which seemed to appear out of nowhere then disappear into nothingness was wearing me down. With my mental state slowly degenerating, my physical self bearing pains, aches and the onset of frostbite and sunburn I thought I saw the light. Is it???? Could it be????? Am I imagining it?????YES! The summit. Praise the Lord and the double shot espresso that I had merely hours ago.As I gazed across the Mallee plains and pondered the treacherous return trip I decided to answer the questions required. Thanks for this cache. The terrain and difficulty don't truly reflect the challenges required for this cache. I'm off to have a Pimm's and lemonade and a cucumber sandwich and contemplate my achievement here today.

I love travelling different roads and overnight camping in little towns. We stopped here to enjoy your earth cache and stayed in nearby Charlton. We have previously visited this mountain to enjoy the view and the shade under the nearby tree on a hot day. This trip was much wetter and we were focused on rocks instead of the view.Thank you for your earth cache.

JTreeTrack2 and Dromaniax decided to take their muggle parents for a couple of days around North Central Victoria. We had lived near this area, and it brought back many good memories. We could find plenty of caches on our trip, and our parents enjoyed the trip immensely. We were blessed with fantastic weather that enabled us to enjoy a picnic or two while trundling around. We enjoyed visiting Whycheproof and were amazed at how this hill stands out from the surrounding countryside.Thank you, GemmaSistema, for this Earthcache.

We stopped by here on the way homeward this morning.
We haven't been through Wycheproof for a long time and had forgotten about the trainline up the main street and the delightful little mountain.
We were glad we made our way up the Mount and we enjoyed the views of the surrounding area as well as looking carefully at the rocks.
We have messaged the CO with our answers.
Thanks to GemmaSistema for this Earth Cache.
It was a delightful morning, mild weather and clear skies.

This cache was found today and brings our overall cache find tally to 12262.

Today on my epic LGA trip through VIC and SA I covered just over 1000km and around 15 LGA’s. An impressive little hill. I gathered my details and then moved on. Our answers have been sent via the message centre.

Thanks GemmaSistema for the cache.

We have travelled to Wycheproof to visit our daughter and help her pack up and move back to SA. This has been her home for 12mths as a graduate nurse in the two local hospitals.
We had some great meals in the local pubs and bakery and had to burn off the calories by climbing up the mountain.
The view from here was quite surprising. Thanks for bringing us here. Answered sent to CO.

Found on a day out caching with Wollaston in the last rays of the summer sun. Answers submitted. I remember many years ago making the trek and watching the local ‘King of the Mountain’ event. Competitors slung a bag of grain onto their shoulders and ran up the hill to claim the title. Lots of congratulatory beers were passed out to each of the boys and girls who attempted the challenge and they earned every drop

Thanks to CO’s for taking time to set out and maintain hides and for showing us your very special part of the world

Smallest in the southern hemisphere, smallest in Australia, smallest in world? Have heard all the claims, I googled. Smallest in the world! Wow, there you go. Certainly puts the town on the map

Stopped up here to eat my pie from the amazing bakery near here.

Can’t believe this is my first time up here. Pretty amazing really and well worth the visit.

Saw a wallaby hiding on the rocks near by too.

A drive up the top is a must. Great art. Great view.

15-Mar-21
Tftc ticked off bucket l didn't realise it was on there the smallest registered mountain in Australia. Now have been to highest and lowest

11-Mar-21
We actually visited this site on our way home from a northern Victoria jaunt from the Victorian Alps to Tooleybuc. I’ve been to Mt Wycheproof previously, but before geocaching, so it was interesting to visit with a different view. I’m sure the visitor area has been developed considerably since I was last here. This mountain has much to attract the geocacher; a Traditional cache, a Trig point and an Earthcache! Even more interesting to me was that the university I went to, La Trobe, was instrumental in identifying and analysing Whycheproofite.

I’ve been watching Dr Who since it first broadcast in Australia in 1963 in the only TV we had then B&W. I’ve grown up and aged with the series and quite used to the transformations. Each Doctor brings their own mark to the role and the program flexes with the change of the main character. Lots of different and renewed minor characters adds to the continuity of the program s. A similar pattern emerges with this series of caches. The containers are similar but different, making for anticipation of what the hide might be each time. They proved to be a great teaching series for us to show a new geocaching to the variety of hides you might find.

22-Jan-21
We are staying in Wycheproof for the long weekend, figuring no one else would want to come here. Our kind of place. The caravan park is great and cheap and there is a local pool. I have submitted my answers and hope they pass muster. Muggle husband's uncle used to be the Pesbyterian minister here so he knows the town well.

Mildura was a target caching destination for Spiffy- and I with the many art trails here and in S.A. Lockdown was the perfect opportunity to solve them all but we had to wait to visit. Finally a window opened up and together with geopartner the 3 of us headed off.

A random stop on our way home and a nice location. I had been here before so have again now cleared the caches here.

Enjoyed analysing these rocks and surrounds.

Thanks to GemmaSistema for the placement and fun.

Heading home now from our road trip to Mildura with Fleabag- via the silo art. We chose a good week for the weather, not too hot. Good to be on road trip, it’s been a while.
Had a couple of big days getting the Turtle and the Paddle Steamer series.
Fleabag has sent you are detailed answers. Even I was impressed with his detail!
Great view and a nice spot for a break up here.
Thanks GemmaSistema for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

27-Dec-20
Found whith my dad and my kids as I showed them the sleepy little town I was born in and I grew up in.

I left Wycheproof in 1986 and have only been back a handful of times since. It was nice to show the kids around town (I still knew my way around as I remembered from the days of riding my bike around these streets).

Interesting earthcache, I have submitted my answers and am humby awaiting the response from the CO.

Thanks for the earth science lesson.

I packed the ice axe and crampons for this ascent Big Grin
The Wycheproof Alpineist's Club's website also came in handy,
with helpful details about the tricky route to the peak Big Grin

I elected to take the easier route up the South Ridge,
which while not quite as technically challenging as the more direct ascent up the Broomstick Face on the north side of the mountain,
still provides the full alpine experience Smile

Witch ever route you plan to climb by
only travel in small groups,
as a lot of climbers in a caravan will slow everyone down,
and probably mean a dangerous night time descent Wink
Needless to say the weather today was forecast sunny with light winds.

With all the preparations,
the ascent went smoothly,
and with just a few fractions of an hour,
I planted the geocaching flag on the summit Big Grin

Not as impressive as some of the flagpoles left by other climbing teams in the past,
but I wasn't here for glory,
there was geology to look at Big Grin
Samples were soon located,
analysis completed,
and the results sent back to the CO's lab for assessment.

Thanks for the Earthcache.
Another peak bagged for now Smile

A lovely view from up here.

Thanks for bringing us up here. Quick stop for a kebab in the main street on our way back from Mildura and thought I would scout out the local caches.

We seen the earth cache and the unusual nature of the little mountain and thought hang the extra time to get home. We broke out the lederhosen after climbing ropes and we set off. We were not disappointed for a surprisingly short ascent we were afforded a magnificent view of the. surrounding plains.

06-Mar-20
After quite a break from doing earth caches, I have found that they aren't as bad as the ones that put me off.
This was another one that I enjoyed doing. Although we misplaced our answers, they have now been found. Phew.
Thanks for bringing us here.

**Earth Find #38**

**Logged pending approval.**

SteMicMitSar and I headed to Mildura for the first day of our caching adventure to NW Victoria and South Australia. We had solved a number of puzzles in preparation for this trip but were also on the lookout for other caches of interest along the way. An interesting mountain and a few facts that I was unaware of to go with it.

**Thank-you to GemmaSistema for placing this geocache**

*Found on the 31 Dec 2019 @ 10:15 am.*
*Cache find # 10321.*

Day 1.
I headed out on a road trip with biggles1024, our first destination being Mildura.
We had a few target caches and series to concentrate on, this being one of them.
We had made a stop for the old cache next door and then decided that we had to find all the caches in Wycheproof so this one was next, who knew that Wycheproof had there own rock type.

**Thanks to GemmaSistema for placing this cache.**

30-Dec-19
Love an Earth Cache but Wow - it takes a geo tragic to come here for an ascent of Victoria’s lowest mountain on a day like today even if it’s only 41.2 degrees. So from highest to lowest I’m thrilled The wind has whipped up the soil and dust so visibility quite poor. A big plus post cache find is the discovery of the Turkish run cafe with most delicious fab borek and pistachio pastries! TFTC too

Round the world trip Smile After the Silo Art Trail I am heading back to Melbourne. Found this Cache just fine.

19-Nov-19
As we headed from Wedderburn to Mildura today, we stopped at Mt Whycheproof to collect information for this earthcache. We had viisted this location some time ago but had not taken much notice of the geology. So the earthcache focussed our attention on a differnt aspect of the area. Answers to the questions ahve been forwarded to the CO. Thanks GemmaSistema for an interesting earthcache.

PS Mt Whycheproof is about 138m above sea level but Mt William in Tasmania is 112m above sea level. On the other hand, Mt William rises about 60m above the surrounding land compared to Mt Whycheproof rising 43m (as stated on the information board).

With some spare time before all the action starts in St Arnaud we drifted north in search of unfound treasures in uncharted areas.
We had previously visited this tiny mountain to find the trad here so we knew exactly what we were going to find up here, nice views of Wycheproof, a great sculpture and a tidy picnic area but we didn’t really take notice of the geology! Not this time! We read your information and learned about this particular rock that can only be found here. Great stuff.
Thanks GemmaSistema for the informative earthcache experience.

We stopped past this earthcache on the way home from a night at the Quambatook Silo Cinema, where they were showing Crackerjack. A perfect trip for the maiden journey for our new Geo-Pod (JPod).

During the day yesterday, we had noticed there were other cachers in town - Treasuretrakas - who had commented in their logs that they were there for the Silo Cinema too. So when we got to the venue, we sent them a message and some co-ords of where we were sitting and bingo, they answered and we met up with them. By this morning, they had become our new geo-friends. After saying our goodbyes at the Quambatook Caravan Park, we went on our merry way, only to meet up again at this earthcache. After another half an hour chatting, we finally said our goodbyes again. Thank you for this earthcache GemmaSistema. A worthy place for one.

Really did enjoy the area and learning about Wycheproofite as I had never really heard of that mineral prior to this cache. Don't think that I will forget it either.

En route from St Arnaud to Swan Hill, of course it is important to program in a few breaks such as this, to feed our caching addiction and maintain a safe driving record.
Our first ever visit to this little mountain despite living in central Victoria for many years. Just to demonstrate what a mountain it was it was the top was above the surrounding fog!

Info sent to CO.

Thanks 'GemmaSistema' for the great effort of creating this Earthcache and encouraging us to learn more about the geology and history of places we visit.

Catching up with a very late log.

We are heading up to Mildura to attend the 3 x3 events tomorrow and decided that it was time for a break to stretch the legs.

We have visited this mountain once before back in June 2004 for the trad that is still here. That was before earth caches and we weren't taking a lot of notice of what we were climbing over. This time we came with different eyes and appreciated the area far more.
The answers were collected and an email sent off to the owner.

Many thanks GemmaSistema, we really enjoyed our visit here and learning about the unique
Wycheproofite, a favourite point from us.

The last time I was up here there was not an Earth Cache here so this was a good excuse to stop by here and climb the smallest mountain for another photo opportunity.
I came up here on sunrise and took in the great views on offer and gather the information required
A fav goes out to you for placing this earth cache.

I lived in Wycheproof from 1982-83. My dad was the State Bank manager here and we loved coming up to the Mountain to play. At that time the annual King of the Mountain footrace was still being held. The men had to carry a 50kg bag of wheat on their back as they staggered up the mount. The reserve around the mountain had kangaroos and emus who liked to steal any food we had on offer.

Thanks to GemmaSistema for the speedy response to our answers, logging with permission.
One this particular occasion we we off on an adventure with Ms_enchantress and her family, heading out to do the Silo Art trail then across to Border Town, up to Pinaroo to do that section of the Border Track back down to border town and then home to the beautiful green rolling hills of South Gippsland (a stark contrast at the moment to this brown barren landscape!)
Sorry for the copy and paste generic log, we had good intentions to write interesting ones but time has gotten away from us, thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining the caches.

RamaTim and I decided to mark the momentous occasion of our 300th find by scaling the summit of Mount Wycheproof for this earthcache. This is a beautiful location and was certainly a good spot to celebrate. TFTC!

Found with Kelligula on our 300th find. If anybody asks I can tell them we climbed a mountain for this find (may leave out it was the smallest mountain in Australia). TFTC

Passing through Wycheproof today, we were attracted by this EC. Lovely views in all directions from up here, and some art and a trig point to boot. What a cute dwarf-sized mountain this is!
We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the rocks and the trees, but we were on a mission. Inspected and discussed the rocky features and took a few photos. Before we left, a couple of muggles arrived, and soon we were being stalked by a drone. Don't like the mozzie noise they make, and don't enjoy their company while we are exploring The Great Outdoors. Guess we are getting old ...
We made it all the way up to the summit of this mountain - and overlooked the fact that a trad hide is available here as well. Hmm, must mean we'll have to come back and enjoy the views again. Drone-free, hopefully.

Having 2 weeks off over Chistmas and New Year's gave me the chance to head home to Adelaide for the 1st time in a year! CoolSmileBig Grin[^]Cool
Harry, Rex and I headed off towards Berri and on the way, via a slighly circuitous route, we found 18 Smile caches in some great spots, had 3 Sad DNFs and even managed a FTF too Smile
Found the 1st cache Smile at 15:09 on the 23rd and the last cache Smile at 2:07 on the 24th after a peaceful overnight drive Cool
Such a nice feeling [^]Smile to be heading back to spend some quality time Cool with some much loved [:X] SA people Cool

Rex and I climbed Australia's smallest registered mountainRazzBig GrinWink, saw some beautiful park areas[^]Cool, read some history lessons Cool[^] and even had to PAF a CO Red Face (hi geobro Big Grin) as I'd messed up the coords on a multi in Mitiamo Red FaceWink

As I have been about 8 months behind in logging, I'm resorting to template logs to catch up. Sad
My heartfelt thanks to the COs who have placed some tricky, funny, exercise required, scary, interesting and devious caches in some amazing spots! Cool[^]CoolSmile
Rex and I have had some amazing adventures and enjoyed some incredible moments thanks to this fantastic hobby SmileBig GrinCool
