Logs
Found and signed before we began the hike . Log was a bit damp but we signed it. TFTC
After a day taking the ferry from the North island and chilling in Picton organising resupply, today I began the South Island portion of my Te Araroa journey. However, having barely walked 50 steps from the jetty, I already had my pack dumped on the ground as myself and other hikers took the opportunity for a swim at the beautiful Ship Cove. After dinding the cache there i checked on the track here and dound no signs stopping my progress to this cache. Im Glad as it was a nice little side walk, cache found with no worries, Now on with the hiking! My thanks go to the cache owner ricardinho.nz for placing one here just shy of the 1716km mark of my tramp. Cheers.-- This log is trackable ! ---- Feel free to discover ---- Please mention, in which cache you've seen this code: ---- 3TABQX --
First day of the QC track. Just got dropped off after 10am with 9 others on the boat. Quick diversion to get this one before our start
Wonderful historic locaction.
I visited here as a kiddie with my family.
Captain Cook, along with Ferdinand Magellan are my favourite navigators and explorers.

Tftc we didn't download the photos beforehand but we still found it! We could get within 7 or so meters with the GPS, after a long hunt around we looked for the more obvious and there it was

Out on a weekend away walking and celebrating a friends 50th at Furneaux Lodge.
Just dropped off at the ships cove wharf - pleased the rest of the group don't mind walking up here before hitting the QC track. Very damp around here - but cache hidden away. Log was wet - but definitely writeable.

When I was hiking the track I was looking for this cache. I had the spoiler, but I couldn't find the box. I was searching really good! I left a paper as logbook wrapped in plastic, that it doesn't get wet and informed the owner. I hope this is okay!

A quick detour before setting off in the other direction led me to here. Quickly found SL and replaced. Had a look at the waterfall and set off in the other direction.

#1063. Today is day number 82 for me of walking the Te Araroa trail and this is the 61st cache I found along the way.
Two terrain 5 caches in one day, awesome! Although the other one was the virtual from the ferry... but this one was a trad, so I feel like I've achieved something. I probably wouldn't have come to visit the waterfall if it weren't for this cache, and to be honest, given all the rain some of the other waterfalls along the Queen Charlotte Track were more spectacular than this! But I'm glad I came - and the cache was an easy find.
Thanks very much for the cache! [Here's the link to my Te Araroa blog entry for today](http://teararoa.g2.co.nz/2019/12/18/day-82-ship-cove-south-island-commencement-to-furneaux-lodge/) if anyone is interested!

The CO had kindly invited me and spacenarwhale out for a boating tour of some of the islands and places of interest around Meretoto today, so we jumped at the chance. After a DNF on the other close by cache we took the walk (huff, puff, huff, puff) to the waterfall and found the cache right where it should be. Meretoto was one of my favourite places on our tour today, I can only imagine what it was like on Thursday to see the Tuia 250 flotilla sail into view.
Thank you for the cache (and the ride, and the adventure)!

Jellybeans. Mommy found it. Then we ate jellybeans. The waterfall was pretty. Thank you for taking us.

Started the QC Track in perfect winter weather, and it continued throughout.

{STF} together with FinOrio, grimijule and Peter&Petra. On our sailing trip we also stopped at ship cove and walked to the waterfall. Nice place here.
We have been looking for the cache quite a time near the coords and the waterfall - without success. On our way back we have been looking carefully left and right of the way keeping in mind the hint. And suddenly I saw a place where I would hide a cache. Luckily, there was the box and we could finally sign the logbook.
Thanks a lot for hiding and greetings from Germany!

During our holiday in New Zealand we have visited both the North and the South Island. We saw a lot of highlights of this beautiful country, but there is so much more to see. So many highlights, so many caches! The geocaches showed us a lot of special and interesting places. Sometimes a quick find, sometimes we had to search longer. A few DNF's, but that doesn't matter. We loved New Zealand and we hope to come back some day!
Today we have found the cache "Ship Cove Waterfall (Marlborough)".

{FTF} @ 10.26am with NZDi. After four days of hard slog shifting house and cleaning up our rental to get it ready to hand back to the property manager, all while the rest of the country was enjoying the best Labour Weekend we've had in years, it was time for some R&R. As yesterday was our 35th wedding anniversary and NZDi bought me a jetski for our 30th, we decided to take it for a well earned blat. The choice of where to go wasn't hard as I've had these two Queen Charlotte Sound T5's on my watchlist since they were listed over three months ago and it appears no-one else was interested in them as I was the only watcher.
The weather today was forecast to be great with a temperature of 24 to 26 degrees depending on which service you subscribe to. However as we approached Picton the clouds looked ominous, but the inner Sounds were dead calm as we launched from Waikawa Bay. As usual it got choppy as it always does between Whatamango Bay and Deffenbach Point but calmed down again for the run past Bay of Many Coves, Endeavour Inlet and Resolution Bay. However
once we passed Resolution Bay, the sea really cut up. Fortunately it was not far into Ship Cove where it was calm once more as it was back in the 1770's when Captain Cook visited several times.
We checked out the outlet of the stream from the waterfall and although it was only just over 100m to GZ, the terrain looked too forbidding to attempt a short cut. So we anchored the jetski near the memorial and made our way on foot to the cache. I won't say we made our way to the waterfall because in the excitement of getting the FTF we made the cardinal sin of not checking out why the cache was there in the first place. We used the hint and the photograph to easily locate the cache and didn't take to much notice of the accuracy of the GPS coordinates, but I would say they were within 10m, which is acceptable for the bush cover.
The sign near the memorial says the waterfall is 1.6km and a 40 minute return trip away, but as usual with DOC, these times are grossly exaggerated and a reasonably fit person should expect to take no longer than ten minutes each way plus cache finding time.
While in the area I took the opportunity to check my Cook's Quadrant cache which the CO kindly replaced when he placed this cache. He certainly did a great job with the rock wall holding it in place. Thanks ricardinho.nz.
This cache gets a FP as per my current policy of dishing one out for every FTF I get until they run out. As well as for an excuse to get the ski out for a blat and the cache itself.
