Spending some time caching around the NSW/ACT southern tablelands with lots of side trips. TFTC.Started the day by doing everything at Mogo and the caching around Durras, north of Batemans Bay.One objective was to get the oldest Eathcache on this planet. Amazingly I didn't know it was so close. Grabbed the other nearby EC as well.Next was to get all the solved puzzles of the rally cars as well as an interesting multi. One more Earthcache to end the day.LOL. I love the theme with the container. Nice touch.
Wow!!! A bit of a track through extremely wet and long grass but a fabulous hide.TFTC
What on earth is that doing out here? It certainly is a bygone artefact. Amazing what you find when geocaching. Dropped off 2 TBs. TFTC
barb2e, Contesta and I headed down to the coast to join the Vicennial of Discovery - Celebrating Wasp Head EC. To break up the trip a little we visited some geocaches on the way.I am always amazed how COs find these places. Given how hard it was to even get through the undergrowth near the road. A couple of leeches though managed to find Contesta's leg!TFTC
Find # 10991Hi ho hi ho its off to cache we go Another day of adventures with like minded fun loving geocaching friends - barb2e and isopeda. With a bit of a plan in mind, and a collection of TOTTs to assist us in achieving our objectives, off we went. Headed off down the coast to join in the Geocaching NSW celebrations for the oldest earthcache in the . Howzat!! GCHFT2 Earthcache I All finds were a group effort. Quick easy find at Bygone Era here today and cache in good condition unless otherwise noted. Thanks so much for the many caches J+J.au and of course for giving me a reason and incentive to get out here, and to experience this part of the world in a different light
On the way down the coast for the event at Durras today with isopeda and Contesta. Tftc

A weekend trip to Batemans Bay, Wollongong, Sydney and back to Canberra to attend events in LGAs I haven't attended an event in before to qualify for a challenge cache in Canberra that requires attending events in 25 different Australian LGAs. A quick find after a short wander.. TFTC.

Short walk in, from the eastern side of the road.
Followed a decent geotrail that took me to the wrong place, luckily this was just metres from the cache
Thank you for hiding here

Wow. That was an adventure. Found it but it took a little bit. Grass was very long. Wear shoes for this one!
Who would have thought you would find such a thing here.
Been coming down this road for 50 years but can't remember there being a stop here .
And so far into the bush.

With a hidden access path and GZ a bit further off the road than expected, this was an adventure to reach. So many ups and downs and a lot of wet grass! Thankfully spotted something that would have belonged in the rest stop and soon after the quirky cache.
I parked opposite and then dashed across the highway between traffic. Lush grass here, covering rows of ridges. Cache and log are good. TFTC J+J.au.
Can remember these along the highway in older times, brings back memories of camping with drovers. Thanks J+j
Access to this cache was horrible, I don’t recommend it as the area is overgrown and potentially full of snakes
Found with my Truckie mate, who explained what the "Lumps in the paddock" are.
Soil is sometimes dumped in spaces where they no longer want the public to use. Say, if the rest stop was deemed closed, but left partially accessible, it could attract hooligans and illegal dumping etc. So... fill it with dirt!
When building new roads, trucks will dump unwanted soil in lines to maximize the tipping space. The mounds would have originally been much higher, say 2 metres high, and over time, rain rounds them down and grass takes over.
Well that was my take on his explanation!
Great contaner! Left 6 swaps.
Thanks for the cache!

I absolutely love abandoned places! One of my favourite things to explore! This one wasn't overly exciting, but still pretty awesome and unexpected! No idea how you found this area, but there is very very little evidence of it ever being here!
I loved the cache execution too! Had a little laugh when I found it, well done!
So for bringing me to a unique spot, and for putting some effort into a different hide, a favourite from me! Thanks again!

After visiting friend in Batemans BAy yesterday, today we went for a little geocaching adventure and then it was already time to make my way home up the coast. Picked up caches all the way from Moruya till Nowra. Best cache I found along the way home. Love the idea and execution!

Find Number 2099 found at 15:44. Today we had 20 finds and 0 DNFs. This was the 20th find of the day.
Friday bridge was cancelled, so I decided to head South to grab some caches.
On my way home I stopped here for one last cache. Once I had negotiated some pretty uneven ground I arrived at GZ and the cache was found after a quick search.
The cache was in good condition. We signed the log (sometimes we sign micro logs with G&T or GT) and replaced the container as found
Thanks J+J.au for the cache.

Came into this place today with Travelgran this being her second try at finding the cache. Great she was the one to find it this time. A very unusual place. One try’s to imagine it being used in times gone by.
Delighted to turn this sad face into a smiley thanks to the company of Gerriactive and muggle husband, they were slightly unsure as to where I was taking them, one can just imagine the history associated with this old forgotten rest stop, thank you for bringing us here & to make it all more enjoyable for me to find, tftc
It saddens me to have to log this one as a sad face! I thought I was doing a great job finding my way through the scrub, then amazed at this open space, headed for the “artifacts” oh, where was my caching buddy, I spent some time looking & as one logger stated a little “creepy” by oneself! Thanks for bringing me here, I will return with a friend, am determined to locate the cache, no way would anyone know of this history, tftc
Sunday afternoon down at the coast with a dose of caching - what could be better - hmm - how about a roadside BBQ - with sauce!!
This was really interesting - imagine a world where travellers had time to stop, collect firewood, and cook a meal on a wood BBQ and enjoy all of the other amenities on offer - even the daffodils were out to give floriade a run for it's money - this place has it all.
We enjoyed this one - once we were over the slightly creepy feeling you get in abandoned places, and it gets a fav point for the creativity of the container.
Thanks Derf10, it's a good one.

me and rob live in south durras and didnt even know this used to be a rest stop! good find! tftc!!
Found with Aquilus1! Our last cache before we headed up the Clyde and home again, from a wonderful long weekend invading Bermagui! This cache was really cool! Beats me how this was here, let along all the lumpies to get here! A favourite from me - thanks for the cache J&J, and thanks for your company Aquilus1!
With Tankengine it had been a great long weekend down the coast for a Canberra invasion of Bermagui, along with many other Canberra and Goulburn cachers. This was one of the few caches that TE was still to find and would be our last cache for the weekend and then the trip back home.
Parking on the other side took some patience to find a safe gap to cross, but luckily not so for returning later back. A little walk along and then found a path of sorts to get down that wasn't so bad. What a surprise to see what lay before us, total unexpected but completely unsure as to how this got here. Made the fun 'walk' across to to GZ were TE made the quick find. Such a random location but very much enjoyed the discovery, thanks for the cache, a FP.

Day trip to the coast. #4 today and a fun one for my overall #50!
Was a more rugged walk than I was expecting and this place does appear very long abandoned. Nice container that gave me a little laugh! Thanks for placing.

Headed down to Batemans Bay for the weekend so as is always the case its hard to drive past a cache.
This one had been on the to-do list but as we parked the heaven opened up with a fierce storm overhead.... dont ever let that get in the way of caching as I made a soggy dash for GZ. Once there a find was made (I prefer brown than red) and it was back to the car to dry off.
Thanks

I'm falling behind on logging my finds (too many drafts sitting there), so I'm just doing some generic ones to get up to date.
Generic logs are not ideal, but they don't mean I don't appreciate the efforts all the relevant COs have put into placing them. I really do! TFTC

I only managed to visit this rest spot once before it disappeared. I wonder if it was too popular ? Today after a dash across the busy road I ventured down to the absolutely destroyed area to find the cache. These bits must be about all that is left.
Thanks.

So many questions...why is it so bumpy, when did they close it, why did they close it??? Thanks for bringing me here.
Heading north, 3rd cache for the day with Geofamily. Thanks for the cache J&J.au.
I think places like this are interesting because they're a reminder of lives unknown to us and the importance these places played for them. Worlds away yet evidence of their existence is still with us. At the same time there's a sadness attached to them too as a reminder of something lost. TFTC
Had a huge day with 154Crows grabbing a handful of caches! After spending the better part of the morning the ACT, we travelled down the Kings Highway to find caches in Batemans Bay. Daylight savings working in our favour as we managed to find plenty of caches in the area before calling it quits and heading home along the coastline.
An easy find on the way back North. An interesting cache container! TFTC

Heading down the coast for the day I stopped in here early morning for my first find of the day.The dewy grass putting my waterproof shoes to the test.
Was a real surprised at what I found at GZ,how do you find these places??I could just imagine this place full of old FJ's and Morris's camped up with long boards on their roofs!
Looks like an old orchard or something too?,returning back to the car still with dry feet, grinnin
A good fun find to start the day,a fav for sure
Thanks J+J for the cache

Pretty interesting spot and would have been great back in the day. Liked GZ and the cache container. TFTC!
We really love this area. Spent the night at Culburra Beach, and today travelling towards home in Melbourne. Picked this one up as we passed by. tftc.
The ground was wet, covered in wet grass and a light shower was falling. Out with dty73 for a trip up to Durras. The furrowed ground was a challenge in sodden shoes. How do you find these places? Thanks for the effort. Kutgw
Being down at the Coast this weekend for the end of the school holidays, Youban, AddictedGamer and I were out this morning to find a few caches and this was one of them.
Very early on a Saturday morning, enabled us to park at the recommended parking spot and cross the road with ease. We found a way down towards the cache that was a little steeper than would have liked, but of course we found a much better way up further down the road closer to the middle of the parking bay.
The morning had rained and there was still a little misty rain about, so the grass was wet and soon too were our shoes. Up and down, up and down across the way we went to GZ. It was an interesting little place that looked a little out of place and we couldn't work out - A. Why was it there? B. How did it get there? and C. How did the COs find it?!
Thankfully though it was a quick cache to find and sign, before heading back up to the road and across to the car. Tftc J+J.au!!!

Fascinating and exciting!!
The location is fascinating. What an interesting location and how did you find it??
What did they do to it?? Definitely not vehicle assessable . Definitely worth a fav point
Exciting that I have a rare FTF.
Left stars to shine and kept a wristband as a keepsake
