Calling this part of the road would be generous even for proper 4WD vehicles. No sign of this cache which was last logged over two years ago, i think this has also been lost.

After dropping my son at work in Queanbeyan, I spent the rest of the day caching my way to tonight's events in Goulburn. All I found here was a broken lid. Not sure if this was the cache?

Same as the last one, with the chance the new fence has meant the cache has been found and removed. Again, not sure, but we didn't see it.
Thanks anyway GLISS!
Thanks anyway GLISS!
A great location with view of the old mill, but looks like a new fence may have put paid to the cache since the last find
Nothing around gz that matched the hint. But a fascinating spot none the less.
First of four days of caching around Goulburn, Yass valley and ACT. Weather still good, but a terrible forecast. Making good progress around Goulburn/Crookwell today.

Celebrating our first weekend of freedom after Sydney hit the 70% COVID vaccination level. I needed cache finds for the last mountain challenge, needed to drop off a few TBs I've been holding on to for too long during COVID shutdown, and felt it would be good to get out into the country and spend some money to help the local economies get back up to speed. So, a mission to Goulburn was the perfect solution. We achieved all our goals and had a great day out. It almost felt like life was getting back to normal.
While eating lunch at the Paragon Cafe, I searched for unfound caches with high Favourite Points. This one was first on the list and not too far away - and had more than 6 months unfound time on it! Actually it turned out there were a few on this road with more than 6 months, so that was a nice bonus.
It was very windy here (hence the turbines I suppose) but beautiful views in the fading light. Log a bit damp but usable. Found with Charlicorn. TFTC!

Managed to drive right to the end of the track for a better view of the old mill. Never knew this was here, so thanks for bringing me here.
I also managed to have a case of cache blindness when I finally got back to GZ...took way longer to spot than it should have.
A Fav for showing me anther old local mill

Grabbed this one on a trip from Laggan back to Canberra.
We walked down to the gate and looked for a way across to the mill but it looked too hard. Especially since all the rain we have just had.
I would like to come back one day when we have more time and see if we can find a way across to it.

I spent Saturday and Sunday driving between Yass, Crookwell, Taralga and Peelwood to visit is many of the caches in this region as I could. The new caches near Yass were all very clever hides that provide a great challenge. I fit in the new Adventure Labs in Crookwell in the afternoon before a chilly night at Bummeroo Ford. Sunday started foggy and stayed that way till after 10. I made it to Peelwood for a cache that I was blocked from on my last visit and finished the day with caches near Goulburn before heading home.
Thanks for the cache GLISS!

Found -- 2:25pm -- Thanks for bringing us to this location and Thanks for the hunt *GLISS!*.
**Cache Condition:** Good.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** Nothing.
**Trackables:** None seen in cache today.
**The Cache**
Log good. Signed the log in either our names or our initials in some switcheroo form of LP, DJJ, ToC and then returned cache to its hide'y hole exactly as found. Thanks for bringing us here for an awesome adventure.
This has to be my most favourite cache of the day. I absolutely love, love, love this mill. I came here once before but wasn't keen on the trek to the cache that day, so it was left until today and it was just fantastic. I want to come back another day when the weather is better and walk down to the creek. This is favourite point worthy.
**The Day**
Decided out of the blue to head down to Breadalbane for a 'little' caching. It was windy and cold but invigorating. I have really learnt to appreciate Goulburn and out round its back blocks. I never used to like it out this way much, but Geocaching has shone a light out here and I now love coming out around Crookwell, Binda, Grabben Gullen and all those other localities, and I really like finding your caches, *GLISS!*. Part of that is because you are showcasing the history and I really love that.

The Pomeroy Mill - Goulburn Area, NSW.
When I first started researching this place, there was very little detailed info to be found. After some time researching old newspaper articles, I have been able to write the following history:
Lieutenant Thomas Woore, engineer and naval officer, was made a magistrate in 1839 and at that time, he purchased over ten thousand acres of land on the Wollondilly River, 15 miles from Goulburn, and established Pomeroy Station. He built a fine two-storey home, stables, coach house and outbuildings suitable for a farming property befitting a man of his stature in life.
By the 1860s, the district was extensively used for wheat crops, with the farmers having to send their grain to Goulburn for milling. Woore saw an opportunity to establish a mill on his property on the banks of the Wollondilly River.
The Pomeroy Mill opened for business in March 1870, offering a milling service to local farmers. The substantial two-storey building was constructed from local stone and featured a mill powered by both steam and water. Woore used his engineering background to design a water chase to power the water wheel. Half a mile from the mill, a masonry dam was built across the river. From here, a 6ft stone wall was built on the river bank the entire length from the dam to the mill and a channel was dug behind the wall and lined with cement. At the mill end of the race are four great stone pillars, whose bases once stood almost at the river's edge. On these rested the wooden fluming, which carried the water to the top of the water wheel, although the timber has long since disappeared.
When a new crossing of the Wollondilly River was being planned in 1870, Thomas Woore used his influence with the municipal council to have the new road built through his property with a ford crossing the river close to the mill. At the time, there was some controversy using public funds to build the road that benefitted Woore by giving good access to the mill for his prospective clients. Wheat grain was brought to Pomeroy by horse or bullock teams from distant centres, then sent to Goulbourn as flour.
The mill did not operate for a long period, as wheat production decreased in the district in favour of sheep farming, possibly because of crop disease.
Also, milling methods became more modern and the up to date mills at Goulburn did the work that could be done at Pomeroy Mill.
In early 1875, Woore offered his Pomeroy Estate for sale, referring to the mill as being in “perfect working order”. It hadn’t sold by the time Thomas Woore died in June 1878, aged 75. The property was offered for sale again in 1886, where a detailed description of the improvements to the property did not mention the mill, so presumably it was already in an unusable state. A further sales campaign in 1898 also omitted any mention of the mill.
In the early 1900s, campers and squatters removed the timbers from the ramshackle mill’s roof and floor, using it for firewood or to build humpies.
Remaining today is the stone walls of the mill building, timber water wheels and axles, stone piers for the elevated chase and remnants of the half mile stone wall leading to the dam. The 150 year old Pomeroy Mill ruin is potentially one of the most significant industrial archaeological sites in New South Wales, displaying the engineering technology of the late 19th century.

What a great spot. That old mill looks awesome and the valley is beautiful. This is why we place caches...and this is why we have favourite points to give out. I parked out side the last property and walked the last 250m with my camera. When i got back to the car, I saw that the property was for sale. My son would love to ride his quad bike around that place. TFTC
Find # 5585
Found with sesblocker and aries44duo.
Found a couple of metres from the fence.
The walk to the mill is well worth it. The water wheel and drive shaft is still within the ruin but not functional.
We give this cache a big juicy favourite point!

OCW StumbleTrip today to clean up some more caches in the Goulburn area.
After cleaning up the Mt Grey series and stopping for a bite to eat, we decided to head out to Crookwell and home via Wombeyan Caves. Some of the views we had along the way were magnificent, so if you are thinking of heading out this way......do it!
Would love to have taken a little more time to check this location out more but as we still had a ways to go before we got home, we just mused about it from GZ.
Epic day out and all caches found were in good condition.
Thanks to CO's for their hides!

Breathtaking view - a perfect example of old and new technology - I find the windmills beautiful but then, I don't have to live with them. A definite fave from me.
This one certainly a favourite point for me, what a surprise to see the mill still standing, wished we had walked closer & now to re read the description as to it,s history; it was good to be passed by a vehicle with “Arcus Adventurers” on the side, obviously they knew of the history of the area. Lots of wind farms now coming into view, definitely our cache of the day!
The rain had cleared and the sun was shining, so it made for a lovely day for a drive in the country. After the Crookwell country town event and collecting the caches around the town, we started out journey home collecting along the way.
Lots of wildlife on this road, and the little calves in the fields were playing, was lovely. After taking the stroll, it was a lovely sight. TFTC GLISS!

As the kids (mini rats) were on school holidays I decide to take them for a country drive which involved some caching and an overnight bush camp out. We found plenty rural caches, seen heaps of cattle and sheep, the ocassional roadkill and some amazing countryside, oh and heaps of wind-turbines.
A nice view of the old mill.
Thanks to all the CO's for contributing to the fun we had.

By far the best "surprise" of our 2 day trip. Was not expecting something like this, such a stunning old structure. A drive-by for us then we went as far as the gate for a slightly closer look. Amazing it is still standing today. Fav point.
Found this while out on a Sunday drive and picking up some caches in this area.
The Old mill is something of great heritage of time gone by. There is so many old stone structures along the backroads. we were able to drive to within 15mrs of gz with and Xtrail.
Thanks GLISS for another fabulous history hide.

As I was in the geowife's hatchback today, I parked in a suitable location and walked the 150m to the cache. Any half decent 4WD would make it to within 15m of gz without issue.
What a grand old building and a fabulous view! I would have loved to go and explore the building and surrounds, but time did not permit and anyway it appears to be on private land. The contrast between the stone ruins of a water-powered mill, with sleek wind turbines looming on the hilltops in the background was kinda cool, but kinda sad at the same time.

Miss read this one at home concluding had to come in the opposite direction. Another time.
Like others have said, probably my favourite location for the day! I really wish we could have gone down a bit further and tried to explore closer to the ruins themselves, but time was getting very short and we had to quickly get through the next 2 caches on the way to Goulburn before making it to the event on time.
So thanks for bringing us here, still have some caches in the general vicinity unfound so may be back in the future!

This Cache was not one of my FTFs today
I headed out from Canberra today with Loci612. On seeing that there was a ftf that had been unclaimed for three days I kicked it into overdrive and reached speeds of upto 150kmph. Shaving almost 20 min off the trip. We got to GZ, located the cache and signed the logbook. We later found out that the 2TF missed out on the ftf by 15 min. Looks like my crazy speeding paid off. Thank you GLISS! for placing this cache, It was found in great condition without any drama. Now onto more caches.
After the two FTFs we collected a few more caches on the way to the Event in Goulburn. THis was one of the caches that we found. I have signed the logbook DSD or Darkside or Darksidedan
I have included a poem that I have written about geocaching with my log. I hope that you and future loggers like it.
Geocache Poem
By DARKSIDEDAN
My endless search goes on and on
Looking for treasures of every kind
Always chasing just one more find
Putting past DNF’s out of my mind
I step out into the world outside,
Seeking what is hidden from me
What size, shape or form will it be?
Only time will tell, I can’t wait to see
Will I find my prize at the end?
I will search in the failing light and cold
Filling with despair having looked everywhere
Where is this thing that gives my life pleasure?
Looking all around from every angle
I read the logs and check the hint
I curse out loud as I walk in circles
Screaming the bloody thing it not there
As time flies by and I fail to see,
Never once stopping to realize
It always been there before my eyes
No need for sorrow, there’s the Geocache.

Another great spot! Came down this road on my last visit, but didn't go all the way, so didnt find the mill. Today back to grab this cache (close to my last find, but a lot further by road). Parked near the properties and walked down to the cache which was found quickly. I then followed the track down the hill to the gate (looks very rocky past the gate, so not really worth going any further).
Thanks,
Thanks,
Only have a little bit of spare time so I managed to grab 4 of the once on my travel. Interesting locations discovered. Nice country side. TFTC
Headed out after dark with fitzy_1965 to find some 'close to home' caches. What was meant to only be a few turned into 8 lol.
Managed to avoid a number of kangaroos, a couple of rabbits and a wombat charging at the car.
All caches found easily despite the dark. Certainly want to come back in the daylight.

16,557. Found on an interesting and fun night run with minniek.
After dinner tonight the call of these new caches out our way was too good, so off we went torches in hand. This was the next stop for the night, and we are relying on other peoples photos as we couldn't see a thing ! Quick find at GZ. Signed the log, replaced the cache, then headed off to the next one.
Thanks GLISS !!

Fav point. Probably the best of the new ten caches here.Day out in Goulburn and Moss Vale area. Found 35 out of 35 caches. Great history here. Enjoyable drive around the area to find these 10 new caches. Tftc
*FTF* at 1:12pm with Tankengine.
After having some fun at the CITO cleaning up rubbish, watching a few Cachers grab one of TEs caches, sitting on a meeting for the Mega (thanks for the coffee TE), then when we were all done. No one else was really around and as we were chatting and trying to think of what to do next my phone chimed with the notification of 10 new caches near Goulburn.
Let's take my car I offered - as I had just filled it and so off we dashed. For such a little car, it did very well with the distance and odd dirt roads. No real issues at all, except all the dust. Yes Tankengine, I should have wound up the windows. I think I'll be cleaning dust out for the next month!
This was #3 and definitely my favourite of all the caches found today and definitely a place I am coming back to and explore further. The cache itself was found quickly and the hint is very accurate, but we wished we had the time to go a little closer to the Mill for a better look. However, there were a potential 8 more ftfs out the to find first. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to discover this great piece of history. Tftc GLISS!!!!

Chooo ooo [FTF] with dty73 on a great day out!
Today was certainly a busy caching day! I started out at 5.30am to catch a FTF on Sutton Rd, followed not long after by a CITO in Weston Park, a communal hunt for one of my caches, and a meeting to discuss all things mega…After that, back at the cars the question was, where to now? Well, that was quickly answered by these 10 new caches being published a little west of Goulburn! Dty73 and I decided to take the gamble and see how many we could get! Of course, the 1 hour drive to the first one was nerve racking, but frequent refreshes of the cache status continued to show them as unfound! . Smiles all round as we arrived at the first one, to see a blank logsheet! Our luck mostly continued with only 1 of the 10 being snaffled by Gazza! So 9/10 FTFs was a pretty good effort!
Mobile reception out here was a little patchy, so I generally loaded the locations into my Garmin. This also helped preserve my phone battery! All caches were found quickly, and in great condition. I was logging the finds along the way, but I think dty was making the odd note at each location – so to see specific details at each location, check her logs . As for me, I enjoyed all the variety of locations, the country side even looked a little green – nice! My favourite was the old Mill. Pity we didn’t get closer to that one, it looked so interesting! But more FTFs awaited!
I was the navigator today, and really only messed up once, when a road on my Garmin map didn’t actually exist! Oh well, only a 1km detour… And thank you muchly dty73 for all the driving!
After about 4+ hours we arrived back in Canberra, noticing that we had completely missed lunch – oh well, FTF hunts do that! . Thanks for the 10 great caches GLISS!
