Out and about caching while travelling around South Island, from Australia. Found this cache and signed the log. TFTC
Today's trip takes us from Ashburton to Christchurch via Springfield! A variety of caches visited as well as ALs. Many thanks to the COs for placing these caches.
GeoHubby (Slotheryn) and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary, and what better way to spend time together than go Geocaching. Springfield was our target today as there is a nice wee Letterbox cache for the Take a Stamp Thursday challenge, which I hope to sign at the Mega in Dunedin. We grabbed as many other caches as we could in the area, this being one.A quick find here. Difficult to be stealthy with all the cars zooming past. Thanks for the cache.
Today marks 6 years married to ThatDarnBear, and two of the older GeoKids volunteered to take UnicornLex on a Sister's Outing. So naturally, what do we do? We make a beeline out the door for an afternoon of Mad Caching !!Happy anniversary ThatDarnBear TFTC
Mrs B found this quickly! Mr B has watched the character that says this many times!
One of a couple of caches I picked up when driving out to Springfield this afternoon. This was a quick find. #7135. TFTC. P.S. In the Wairarapa a renowned C.O. known as Skindo has/had hundreds of this sort of hide. Others in the area with similar hides sometimes simply use the word Skindo as their hint. Thats helpful if youre in the know, but no help if youre not familiar with that part of the country!
I like the symmetry with a cache at the other end of town! Nice quick retrieval, TFTC
Found with Blue Jay on our first day driving around New Zealand. Today we drove from Christchurch to Hokitaki and saw from lovely scenery as well as picking up a few caches. This was one of them.TFTC. Toffee Man.
Quick find Thanks for showing us this place, & for placing and maintaining this cache. The is our playground
Dieser Cache konnte heute erfolgreich geloggt werden.Danke an den owner fr's legen und pflegen TFTC Schmerzbefreit
I very much love getting to visit the South Island. Until recently it wasn't something I got to do very often, but in the last year I've managed a series of mini-trips for geocaching, and here we are at the start of 2024 with another one. Just like my first SI trip in 2023, I've come to Christchurch to target a few specific caches to help with my Jasmer Grid, and qualification for a few challenges I'm currently working on.This is Day 2, and it's raining. Not major deluge-type stuff, but just a bit heavier than a fine drizzle. The kind of rain that gets into everything and can generally make for a miserable time caching even if you have wet weather gear. So I had a cruisy morning catching up with yesterday's logging before deciding that I really had to get out if I wanted to get any caches today. So I set forth, via a Couplands Bakery because, well this is the South Island right?Having failed to find GCE92 yesterday, I had decided to target the only other July 2001 cache available to me, so headed over to Glentui Bush to make the find. With the rain still falling, I figured I'd still be able to take the scenic route back to Chch whilst stopping to find a few park 'n' grabs, and so I pulled over for this one. A quick find here. No issues to report with this cache, and I soon added my name to the log and then replaced everything as found before heading back to the car again. Thanks for setting this one up.
Mum stopped to check on this on the way passed today. The container was fine and yes, it is hard to close the lid with the bag sticking out. All good to go here again. Happy Caching
Cache is becoming a little bit sun damaged, was difficult to close up, fun find
This weekend I decided to attend a caravan rally in Springfield.Another caravaner (and cacher, SteveT10) and I walked over to this cache from the caravan park.Cheers for the cache, gracie7 + Mum.
Stopped off with Gummi_Venus to see if I had signed this one a few months ago but forgot to log. It was in my to-log list but wasnt sure. Turns out I had mistakenly highlighted so pretty happy to get this one checked off. Just two more and Springfield is cleared out. Woohoo!
An easy find after we stopped for a pie each at Sheffield Pies. They also had lovely bags of Yo-Yoes for sale. I love yo-yoes!
First cache for our weekend trip. A coincidence we found this on international donut day ??

We had spotted a few other North Islanders make a personal 24hr find record so we took note of the general caches found and made a plan to try our luck, our previous best was 172, our aim was "more than Yeti", check out GC6PRMW once we have logged them all to see how we did...
A bit of creative parking for this one, glad it was a quick find, no D'oh here!

After caching between Christchurch and Springfield yesterday, today, I started caching in and around Springfield and then found a few more on my way back to Christchurch. All good with the cache at the moment - although there weren't any trackables in it - dropped one in. TFTC, Biggles.
A quick find and not a lonely cache so I dropped two TBs. I was supposed to attach a trinket to the Lackey tag for the owner bur didn't have anything suitable to hand. Next finder should feel free to do so!

Found it! We are the first to discover this in its new position, and I can confirm it is safely tucked away. TFTC!

On a daytrip to ChCh to do some labbing. We're stopping at a handful of maintenance along the way first.
Wow. I cant believe the container survived the chop (though abit squished, but its still water proof) Its abit exposed here so we have moved the cache across the road. All good to go here again. Happy Caching

Strange we found two containers one almost on top of the other, missing cache must have surfaced again. TFTC
#20847. After Troodles accident yesterday (resulting in a broken wrist and arm) this one seemed a most appropriate one to find on the way home (I'm not sure whether "D'oh" was what was said at the time of the fall, or something stronger). Quick find. TFTC.
This cache had been on "the list" for the journey west on Saturday, but the constant rain that morning changed our minds - we're not really wet weather cachers.
Probably more appropriate on the return journey given the cache name and events of yesterday. A quick find for SWNZ, who signed the log for me. TFTC.

On a morning cache hunt. Had to find this one from all those overgrown ivy. Cache is all good here. TFTC
We couldnt find the original cache either. We had a pretty good dig in the foilge just incase but ended up replacing the cache. All good here. Happy Caching
On a Geotour trip for the week.
Passing through on my way to Springfield for the night. All GT caches found for the day. Now to get the numbers ticking over before dark. Yay, made it to Springfield.
Now to discover what the place has going for it. Didn’t quite get my counting to the quite right on the first attempt. Lol, or should that be D’oh?

Enjoyed a day out caching around Springfield. This cache was a quick find. TFTC.
We are out for a days caching with busy paws and hoping the miserable weather will improve for Castle Hill. Found this cache all good and dry. Thanks for this cache gracie7 + Mum.
Thanks for putting out this cache for woolwood9 and I to find!
SL **tm/ww NZ** (may just be a black smudge on the many wet or plastic logs)
*We soon had another good cache located!*
Appreciate all your good hides!

Down in Christchurch with the Squirrel, ABCDF4 and eyespyben. During Covid lockdown, we solved a load of puzzles and decided that this would be a good time to visit. We've enjoyed a few days of good weather and seeing the Canterbury countryside. The caches have been in varying states - some good, some not so much. Our time here has been a blast, and we'd like to thank all COs who have made this adventure possible. Thank you and TFTC.
After puzzle solving in the Canterbury region along with EyeSpyBen we were invited to join Fap (from Fap & Gap) and Squirrel Nutcase to a week long caching adventure in the Canterbury area. With flights and accommodation booked were off, all met up in ChCh. and many hard dusty Kms travelled and many caches found, I think the Squirrel has said it all in his brief. Many thanks for the placements and Cos for bringin us to the very pleasant areas we travelled in to your region

With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Logging all finds as Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa - Our hometowns)... During Covid-19 lockdown, we solved a truck load of puzzles around Christchurch - Canterbury region. No use thrashing the old grey matter for no cause - We decided we should make good on this handiwork...
There are lots of interesting trails and geoart surrounding Christchurch. What you aren’t told is how far flung some of these caches actually are. Some beforehand advice would have been great, so here are some of my notes... You’re welcome!
1. Mobile coverage is patchy, especially in those quiet, rural areas where it was most needed. Saving caches to offline might show that you are prepared and organised...
2. There are many dusty metal roads on the trails. The car will get messy, and your hair will feel like cardboard at the end of the day...
3. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential. You will climb in and out of hedges, gorse, and other rough stuff. You might get scratched, cut to shreds, and bleed a lot. It’s not advised to wear your brand new jacket on the day...
4. Take lots of food and drink. You’ll probably be head down, tail up and not realise you haven’t eaten until late afternoon. There are very few shops or gas stations out there...
5. Make sure that you secure keys and wallet and know where these are placed for easy retrieval. A full box of pens might be useful too, especially if you’re inclined to free some into the wild...
6. Know the difference between left and right, and north, south, east, and west. Turning right and heading north will not get you to South Christchurch quickly.
7. Look with girl’s eyes rather than boys eyes... Some caches haven’t been found in a while and you might have to get down on your knees to pray.
8. Always be prepared for misleading hints. This is what turns simple caches into D5/T5 hides... “Head height” could mean the cache is positioned at your toes.
9. Have a sense of humour and like the people you go caching with. It’s going to be a very long day, and you might want to hurt someone during the journey...
10. Make sure you can operate your phone/device and it doesn’t crash when you most need it...
11. Learn to cut and paste logs because you’re going to repeat this function so often when logging all of your finds.
12. Above all else, have fun and be kind...
No time to waste today - We each had caching jobs to do, and our day was mostly planned... We wonder if there are any actual Simpsons living in this Springfield. That would be uncanny... Thanks gracie7 + Mum and TFTC.
