With summer and hot days returning, it was a perfect day to go out for the first paddle of the season. And what better goal for a paddle than a cache to go find.

Morning Kayak on lake samsonvale. Trampled through a lot of long grass up the bank into this one. TFTC

Today we headed over to Lake Sampson to take M's new kayak for a spin and to find at least this cache and maybe some others while we were on the water. It was a lovely day to be on the water - cloud cover so the sun wasn't too hot and almost no wind. We were on a roll after finding [Green Shirt](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC80TY9) so headed over here to add this one to our count for today. I'd read some previous logs so knew that there was a path to GZ that didn't involve navigating the lantana. It wasn't long before I had the log in hand and was added another T5 cache to our tally Thanks for find #5168TNLN

Camped on the island right next to the cache without even realising, in the morning found it and now I'm starting to look for caches again.

This cache was found and signed during a paddle event, organised by Davidwazza (using the shortcut DSP) which I joined with my inflatable kayak.

What a beautiful scenery!

GC80TY6 Lonely Island

Was out this way for a nearby event on the lake. We had time to grab this before the event started. It was a walk through some long grass to get there but easily spotted once there.
Are there roos out here as it sounded like one bounding away through the grass.
All good here.

This morning, an early plan to attack Lake Samsonvale by kayak was organised, which consisted of 11 paddlers. A reasonable weather window with overcast conditions made kayaking quite ideal in the end and most enjoyable.

Regarding this kayak paddle, we departed from Forgan Cove at 07:00 hr and kayaked for an approximate distance of 7 km. My [Strava record](https://www.strava.com/activities/9197447543) was forgotten to be restarted at the geocaching event, so I recorded 5.3 km with a moving time of 1:10 hr. A grim weather forecast consisting of rain and wind was replaced by a near-flat surface that was ideal, and it was only during our return paddle that the wind started to pick up, before a starting drizzle once we had returned back to Forgan Cove.

Both [DisSister](https://coord.info/PR1ET7R) and I arrived here first (who had not yet found this geocache), so we took the lead in making this find. We were initially hit with some sort of dense, mildy-prickly bush (not lantana but not too far off), so we took the sensible option of walking around it (smart move). There were a few animal tracks about, so they were also helpful to follow. We soon arrived at GZ, and with the cache opposite to where I was standing, I proclaimed that the cache should be here somewhere, perhaps at that tree, and then [DisSister](https://coord.info/PR1ET7R) made the find. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. In addition to signing our names, we also signed as David's Samsonvale Paddlers (DSP) for those who joined us today. Thanks Pine Rivers Cruising Yakht Squadron (PRCYS) aka. [ruzzelz](https://coord.info/PR10CCB) and Slow Puncture (LJCC). for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

After the nearby event we headed onto Lonely Island to find this one. It was a bit of a bush bash through some long grass & ended up with my pants getting wetter from the grass than from the kayak over which was a surprise. Once at GZ it didn't take too long to find the cache & get our names added to the log. Upon returning to the beach, well perhaps rocky foreshore is a better name we shared some chocolate & managed to not sink too far in the mud whilst getting back into our kayaks.
Thanks for the fun morning adventure PRCYS

After today’s event, those left behind decided to grab a few other caches in the area. With the first being a very short paddle from the event. A wonder into the bush and we soon had the cache signed and ticked off. Back into the kayaks and it was a paddle now to the next cache of the area. This was a great find and there is something about finding an ammo can in the bush. Our next cache was now a 1.8 k paddle away and sort of in the direction of home.

The weather was starting to turn but it was still ok for the paddle. We arrived and began a walk around and some into the bush while others took the beach track, lol. A nice find and we all got our names in the log. All caches were returned as found. It was then another 1.8 k paddle back to the launch spot. As we turned to head home, it was obvious that the wind had picked up and the rain was on its way. We timed it perfectly and got back before the heavy rains started. Thanks to all the CO’s for the fun and placements of the caches.

I hadn’t explored this lake before so jumped at the chance to join a flotilla for an event nearby. Arriving early for that, I made my way to GZ with Davidwazza as we waited for other attendees to finish their paddle.. We found our way around natural obstacles and once we arrived, the cache was quickly spotted. Thanks for providing an interesting read in the description. Thanks PRCYS

When there is an event 70 metres away from GZ it would almost be criminal not to quickly dash over. KerriMG, nikid1 and I took the opportunity to stroll through the long grass.

On the small trek I saw something big and brown out of the corner of my eye. I was about to confirm a yeti sighting until whatever it was, was heard jumping off through the bush. I listen to all the yeti sighting podcasts so it is still possible that they hop.

We thought we were following our own geotrail on the way back, but when we emerged about 40 metres from our kayaks we all knew we were just plain hopeless. tftc

Wahoo what a location! Out for an epic SUP session with the family. Didn’t enjoy the stones, didn’t enjoy the head height grass, didn’t enjoy the giant spiders ️ on their webs, didn’t enjoy having to flick a giant spider off my sons back!!! I think we were lucky to not see any snakes . First finders for over a year that’s a satisfying feeling. All good with the cache. Found with Sando076.

Found with BrisAvon. After a 2 hour paddleboard journey and walk through head high grasses, this one certainly earns it's 5 star rating. Going to be sore for a few days after this one!

20-Jan-22
With a couple of days holidays left, I thought I would get the double kayak out and take the youngest for a paddle. We visited Lake Samsonvale for the first time, and pulled up at Forgan Cove to unload just as the heavens opened up. Oh well, we probably would have gotten pretty wet anyway.
As we started paddling, I could see we had about 1.6km in a straight line to the first target cache. Despite the rain, pretty calm on the water and we were at the island in no time. I thought the paddle was the reason for the T5 but it appears not entirely. I left the youngster on the shoreline as I trekked towards the posted co-ordinates, and we yelled back and forth as I went. The grass was head height (looks mown on the map), and then I hit the lantana. Couldn’t push through so had to track round (maybe shorts weren’t the best idea).
Then I came across my first snake ever whilst caching. Far out. How did that get here? An island in the middle of a dam. How much do I want this cache? Lucky I left the youngster where I did, as he had freaked out about a spider on the shore when we pulled up. I eased past and then found a track through.
The cache was found quickly when I was 10m away, and the log sheet was all dry. Quickly signed and then back to the kayak.
That was our only find today of three caches that we tried, but really glad I got the smiley. Great morning out. Thanks for the cache PRCYS. Cheers

TFTC. Well the school holidays have finished and that means facilities are less crowded. Headed to Forgan cove to launch the Kayak and do a few hours of paddling attempting the caches on The Lake. A lovely day to paddle the 6km or thereabouts. Sunshine and no wind. Found the caches without to much bother although I think I chose the hard way in on one of them. had a great day on the water. Thanks to the COs for adding to our enjoyment.

Tftc, out today with green geckos & muggle65, collecting a few solved puzzles , tree fishing and kayaking.
Expecting to sleep well tonight.
This was a fair paddle for us as we are novices with the Yak.
We had a great day out, thanks for adding to the adventure.

First the coffee, then the paddling. And oh what a gorgeous morning. An early start, but well worth it. Dead calm and smooth waters, the early morning sun (always the best sun), great company, beautiful weather. @Ruzzelz, @oz_bean_counter and I enjoyed a lovely paddle to here, and a short walk that took a bit of exploring to find the best pathway in. No issues at GZ.

Thanks PRCYS for entertaining me at this location.

A lovely early morning yak with some lovely people. Grabbed a few trads, a puzzle that completed my second loop, and a few other random caches. The water was (mostly) clear and calm, the rain and wind stayed away for us, and the banter was light and enjoyable. Can't really think of a better way to start a summer morning. Thank you ruzzelz and Pprime for the company.

Was meant to be paddling Beachmere today but since it's low tide this area was our plan B.

Beautiful lake and boat ramp with washing facilities near the car park. Was looking forward to using it after but the policemen prevented us to use, as the area was declared a crime scene. I thought our cars were stolen. Later found out on the radio as I'm driving home, a 30 yr old woman, kayaking alone, was struggling in the water. Some passers by tried to rescue and called for help. We saw the helicopter hovering on our way back. She was already draped in white cloth when we were ashore. Sad incident. So young.

Thanks for the cache and taking us here PRCYS. Took half an hour from launch to the cache. Easy find. Was a bit windy and wavy in the middle, water was going in the kayak but managed to stay afloat.

07-May-20
Decided to head out to Lake Samsonvale to get myself a few caches. I arrived and saw that I could walk to these ones as the dam levels are low, so off I wet on my journey. The walk was very pleasant, but I thought I might encounter some rain, but luckily it held off the whole time I was there.

I made my way around the waters edge, but luckily there was a slight trail I could follow most of the way, which made it some what easier, but things started to turn bad. I encounted an absolute TONNE of lantana, waist deep water and grass over head height, but I pushed on through it all and managed to find all 3 caches I was after.

I really enjoyed my time out here today.

Well, what an adventure. We found out at the Leap Day event that there were 3 T5 caches to be gotten here with dry feet due to the low level of the dam. Well that was in January and it’s now March!!! A great adventure tho. Waded through water up to the top of our thighs!! We had a lot more trouble finding our way back to the car than we did finding this cache!! Thanks PRCYS for the cache.

I aim to get out in my kayak at least once per month and have done since I bought it back in late 2016. That's a lot of kayaking and as such, a lot of kayaking geocaches have been found and I am running out. Somehow, since the allowance of kayaks on Samsonvale or North Pine or however it wants to identify, I haven't been here. A quick look at the map and I reckoned I could grab all of those in a solo afternoon.

Annoyingly, the first difficulty was finding where the heck to even launch my kayak from. I checked every park on the eastern side before finding the right place. The signage is just woeful; turns out you can't see the signs from your car. I threw my kayak off the roof and walked it down the ramp, then twice that distance again to the actual water. Samsonvale, open to kayakers.. but reluctantly, it seems.

Having paddled two kilometres north-west across the wind of an incoming storm, I now pointed my bow directly into the wind and began my two kilometres into the wind and waves. It seemed to take an age to power into the weather, especially as the waves were cresting at nearly a foot high at times. Enough to break over the bow of my boat, render wearing sunglasses ineffective and me being wet nearly all over. But, geocaching!

With much relief, the markers of the edge of the designated zone came into view, the water shallowed and I beached in the lee of the island. I didn't move for some time, taking a breather. And I for a while watched the wildlife around me. Plus a snail on the weeds below me.

First things first. Ages ago I noticed the square on this island and have gone through historic aerial imagery to work out what it was. Not much of a clue, it was a job for on foot. I headed there first, going anti-clockwise around the island. However, pushing up from the waters edge towards it meant neck-high grass and dense lantana. I got to within view, but not close at all. My questions were partly answered at best before I gave up and walked along the bank past my kayak and towards this geocache.

Just as everywhere else I'd seen, as the water has dropped and then some rain has fallen, the grass has kept up. I was required to push 55 metres through neck-high, dense grass, then around shrubs and over lantana. None of this was particularly pleasant. I am glad however, I thought to throw my joggers into the kayak, even if they were now wet from all the water over the bow.

But eventually, beyond all my swearing at nature and getting itchy from the grass, I was confident to declare the find; all in good condition too. I tried to not think about getting back to the water through the grass again, but I did manage to retrace my steps so it wasn't nearly as bad. And from here, looks like a long walk with no long grass to the next. Thanks for this geocache, PRCYS Smile

***COs- still trying to catch up on my significant logging backlog. It started as a series of unfortunate events in 2019 and went from there. I was initially trying to log sequentially but that held things up so now it's a haphazard affair and progress is being made.
Logging your cache on the day I visited it, not the day I'm logging on so it could be a few years back.***

Out here for the day with hatzofff, RoddyC, Snickersallan, patrol14 and my unsigned up muggle friend ZipZap. This was a hoot watching ZipZap and RoddyC retrieve this one.?? We didn't linger as we found what we assumed to be pelican eggs and didn't want to keep the parents away.

Friday. Picked up an old but still sharp fish hook, so someone must have been fishing around here. So many weed around here, some nice and pretty with white flowers, and some just nasty and sharp. Found container no worries.

Geohubby has some time off over Christmas and the New Year, so we have been going out doing some kayak caches. Today we took Rhubarb and Custard out for a paddle on Lake Samsonvale. It was lovely, only a slight breeze and it was nice and not too hot. Finally time for the parents to hang out together in this team. The morning had been spent spending quality time with the cache blockers, the girls had hit the gym, got their sweat on in the steam room and watched a movie while the boys went to a virtual reality room, enough of this parenting role, we have plastic to find in the real world. Once again the muggle teens were asked if they wanted to come along but one look at their faces and we knew we were free.

We popped the yaks on the roof and headed off too the lake for an afternoon paddle. We have been meaning for a while to get out here and pick these up and now we have finally made it. Neither one of us knew where to launch from, we just thought we would wing it once we got there. Into the first carpark, no launch of paddle craft here, carpark 2, no launch of paddle craft here, carpark 3, no launch of paddle craft here, carpark 4, we have a winner!

Arriving at the little Island, the first thing that was done was to put that much bushman spray on Mr 4ando so that no insect could get any sort of traction on him much less bury themselves in him. Safety precautions covered we entered the long grass until we came to a kind of clearing and spotted the cache.

Out for a paddle on the lake with 1Minniemoo, Nyssaflutterby and assorted children.
The plan was for the kids to have some paddling experience and they all got some of that!
It was a bit choppy today in the middle of the lake and it was great to pull into the inlets and get back to calm water.
This was my first time trying my new yak, which is quite awesome Smile
There's a reason this island is lonely and it's spiky plants aren't very welcoming.
We found a trail of sorts to follow and headed to the cache, I got caught in a spiky tree and got prickles from something as well. Kayaking shoes aren't the best choice here.
Of course there's probably a better way in that we couldn't find, one without a wall of lantana.
When we got back to the yaks I managed to overturn mine trying to get back in, my foot got caught in a carry handle.
Then for the loooonnnggg paddle back to the launch point!

Oh boy! We saved the toughest til last it would seem! Here was us thinking it was only about 200m paddle from the last cache, but of course no, the last almost 100m was the bushbash part. Well, we docked the yaks (and canoe), and tried to work out where to best approach from. From our investigations, I'd say there wasn't particularly one! So eventually, in we headed, through long grass, lantana, and plants with giant thorns. And just as we neared the cache, a crashing through the bush heading away from us of at least one Kangaroo! Sorry to disturb you on your isolated little bit of land dude!
Log signed we hightailed it out of there back to the yaks and clambered on back in, where poor Wombles&Co managed to overturn her kayak while reboarding.
Then the big paddle back to Forgan's cove, which almost seemed like it would never end with us fighting the wind today.
Thanks for the cache PRCYS.

Out for a paddle by myself today. I have visited this dam in the company of folks who are members of the Water Sports Association a few years ago, so was keen to see the work done to accommodate the public. Pleased to see it's a pretty good facility [^] I set off around 8.30am. and returned at 11.45, so just over 3 hours.

The slog across to the northern side to gather the traditionals was a little tough as the water was a tad choppy today! Some singing cheered me up as I battled my way over. I landed on the north-western edge of the island so had some fun finding my way through the lantana and spiky plants Sad Much easier to come in from the south-west! The area around GZ was surprisingly clear, and I made a quick find. TFTC, PRCYS

Out for a quick paddle this morning. First one for the year after an injury. Cool

Ms Maddy invited me on a paddle she had organised with someone but that person had been unable to make it so she suggested we come here and get the new caches while christening her new kayak. The car park was chockers and so was the lake with kayaking fishermen and women everywhere. One of them was attempting to cache block us here but we ignored him and paddled around the island until the GPS said 60m. Then we landed and headed inland on foot. I walked under the cache chasing the GPS until MM pointed out my mistake.

Thanks for the cache PRCYS. This was find #3943. Please discover my trackable: MMGJ6B

As L. Manchester is on hold until Miss Direction can join us, we decided to check out L. Samsonvale which is much smaller in scope but well-trafficked by paddlers and fishers and picnickers. Epic fail on estimating the need for car parking here A short but scenic route today that included a bit of bush bashing.

This was the maiden voyage of the MM Pickles and my first water soirée this summer.

Closing in on GZ we realised a walk was involved and beached just past a fisherman who was fiddling with his phone. Maybe he has an app for finding wee fishies anyway ignored us we so scooted into the jungle and found a cache.

Had a lovely paddle with the CO, who was out for a maintenance run. The water was smooth and the wind was barely a whisper, which made the paddling much easier than when I visited on the weekend and was rocked by wind waves.

We saw some wildlife too, a hawk perched on a stump just long enough to let us have a look before flying away.

Nice to see some new caches sprouting up out here, a round of applause for the initiative of the COs.
