Winner - found it. Super sad you cant walk down the stairs into the mine anymore - no fun in this world these days!
This cache was first on our radar for a couple of days away after going to the event at Tatura on Thursday. This is a perfect example of why we love caching! What a ripper area! The mines are unbelievable! The amount of work they did to get down as far as they did. I wish we could have walked down the stairs to the bottom of the mine but unfortunately it's been blocked off. But we did enjoy the walk around Balaclava Hill looking in the tunnels. This deserves a fav point because it highlights such an awesome area! Thanks Robmc for placing this cache and highlighting this amazing area!
Found very easily, I could swear I had a pen on me but it stayed in my car !TFTC from
Camping weekend with day1976, I do love the old mining areas! We only did a couple of caches this arvo, since day1976 was keen to get on the beers.
This is one of many geocaches that I have found over the last 12 months, but have not got around to logging. Sorry for the generic log. Just catching up now.
I decided to give this one a go before I went into Rushworth. Walked up to GZ but there was no sign to read just the scribble of the glue where the sign once was. There were 2 hives of some sort of wasp either side of the sign which made me nervous about retrieving the cache. I used my ninja skills stamped the log and returned it with disturbing the hives. TFTC
Quick find with Bogonghazy on our way home from a week away. Thanks for placing the geocache great spot
Quick find with LittleBoss2 while heading back to Bendigo. Thanks again Rob, bit of a test driving the kluger from the previous hide at the dam, but we made it. Shame we can't access the pit.
Feel like this area isnt really maintained that well. Sign has been ripped off. Signage isnt that great. Nonetheless it was a nice area to check out. Cache in great order
TFTC! 26 December 2023 8:33:45pm 6600Very interesting mine. And beautiful sunset as we finish up the afternoon of caching. Made a quick find.
Interesting spot, would have been way better if you could go down the old ramp, thanks
Spending the weekend around Rushworth to get away from the crappy Melbourne weather, so of course a few caches are on the cards. What a great area to discover. Such a shame the steps down to the old area are closed. TFTC
Love it, a cache with a view. We extended our little stay in Whroo to take in the beautiful weather, hiking, and of course pick up the Caches in the park. TFTC.
Went away for my birthday weekend to the rushworth area in the forest.
Grabbed a heap of caches in the area over the weekend and left a trackable in one of them.

What an amazing, historical place.

The phone signal is pretty poor out here and the mozzies have really upped their game this year. Ill just have to see how it goes tonight. Found this one though, what an impressive hole in the ground .
I’m having this week off as others at work had the Easter break off so it was my turn and another trip up North to Mildura was planned.
I left Melbourne nice and early on Friday to get a few caches in on the way up to Culgoa.
My main aim of the weekend at Mildura was to finish the Turtle series and to start the Paddle Steamer series so all good on those 2.
So after a great 3 days it was time to head back South to my next destination which was Boort as I had seen it on the map and had never been there.
I was not taking the most direct route as I wanted to drive through some old towns that are now only dots on the map and I want to take the back roads as well.
After a nice night in Boort and boy did it rain heavily overnight and I was quiet happy that I was in cabin for this stay.
I left nice early in the morning to keep tracking South.
I remember being up this way a few years ago and doing all of the caches in the Whroo area.
It would have been great to explore the old mine back when you could.
Even the steps down towards it have been locked know so no access for me.
Nice and quiet around here today so I was able to make a quick find.
Thanks Robmc TFTC.

Nice find! Unfortunately, the info sign had been vandalised but hopefully it'll be restored soon
Very interesting spot, pity with recent land slips that you can go into the pit, but thank you very much for bringing me here
Tftc Romax, warm day expected today
Hoping to get done before it gets too hot
Thanks for the series
Very impressive

Had time for one cache today after getting a leave pass from the scout Jamboree at nagambie.
An easy going and a bit of a look at the pit.

Found at 11.00am, Good view of the mine from here. Pity they have closed off access to the tunnel. We used to be able to walk through it years ago.
Not many people around today, had the place to ourselves.
Thanks

Found 16/10/21 @ 6:44 pm
Final cache find for today with sun setting and the worms biting (aka Andy complaining he was hungry).
I did convince them to walk around to the tunnel at the back before heading back to the car so all way not lost.
Cache in good condition.
Thanks Robmc for the cache.

Tftc robmc. Had no option today but to share this find with a number of engineers, but what the heck. As a geologist, historic sites like this are just wonderful to visit.
Have wanted to check out this area for a little while. What a great place!!! Unfortunately I spotted the hide on the ground under sign so snuck over the fence to retrieve and we tried our best to retape and replace. Hopefully it holds better this time. TFTC
Find # 9981
Making the most of Holidays and being able to travel. I decided on a 4 day trip that seen me head up to Swan Hill then down via Lake Boga, Kerang, Koondrook, Cohuna, Leitchville, Mt Terrick Terrick NP, Corop, Colbinabbim Rushworth, Whroo and finally Nagambie (then back home to St.Arnaud). Lots of back tracks taken and lots of dust to clean out of the ute. It was over 1250km travelled and flying solo on this trip I had lots of fun finding the caches.
I took a couple more wedges out of my 360Deg “finds from home” map and ticked off a couple of caches that I have heard about that were on my “to find” list.
There was a huge Variety of caches found from bird boxes to Fridges, Wall mountable tool boxes to Eclipse tins, with the odd ammo can thrown in. A couple of head scratching gadget caches chewed up some time but will be memorable for time to come. Numerous puzzles that I had solved i managed to find and I even managed to make good on a couple of DNFs, and add some more DNFs to my list. Even though I was out on my own I still had to use a couple of PAFs to get by. Thanks guys.
A quick find on the new cache. interesting view doen the mine.

Out for a day trip to meet up with my sister from the opposite direction. This mine is fascinating, the kids were dreaming of stumbling across a gold nugget but hopefully they won't hold their breath.
Suscoe was heading north today for a caching trip.
With the worst of the rain left behind us around the Metro Ring Road we first encountered fog coming over the Great Dividing Range.
Once we down on the northern side we had clouds but the day remained fine.
We had a wonderful time wandering the roads all the way to Mulwala today but we did take the long way round at times.
Thanks to Robmc for this cache, we did try again today and found the cache this time.
A number of years ago we were enjoying finding the Romax series in the Whroo forest and stopped here on our way then, sadly it was missing back then but not today.
A nice hide and a splendid view.
Thanks for providing the reason to stop here again.

Quick easy find in an interesting spot. Out fossicking with ShearingLinc before the 5 day lockdown.
Found this XS cache on 7.2.21 at 4:47 pm. It’s a shame the mine is closed to tourists. I remember as a kid exploring the tunnel. It was so exciting. That was over 25 years ago. The geokids enjoyed seeing the mine from the look out. TFTC.
We had already checked out the Balaclava Mine on a previous visit here so we were happy to notice on our map today a new hide highlighting the location. We had to wait for some muggles to leave before making the quick find.
Thanks Robmc for the placement here, its a very impressive looking mine.
