34,207. Found with minniek during our afternoon meander around Sherwood and Dowling Hill.Headed out this way after minniek got an early mark. Parked at the familiar gate and hoofed on up the trail. We passed the caches that we did during our last visit out this way which was August 2021 ! Time flies. After finding 2 caches up the northern section of the powerline trail and 1 on the southern trail, we headed up to Dowling Hill proper. This however was a short detour for 2 more TE caches - cool. Once at GZ this was a nice quick find. Stamped the log, replaced the cache as found, then headed back up to Dowling Hill proper. Thanks Tankengine !!

I think I preferred the view from here rather than a bit further up. Great spot again. And a FP for the view. Thanks TE

Out with the gang to find a few caches around the Sherwood Forrest area.

It was a fun day with everyone. The weather was perfect and the company too.

This cache: Such a nice view. Well worth the effort to get here. Tftc!!!

Today's walk was a trip to Sherwood forest to visit the final caches in the area. It sort of worked. Joolay, Kitty Katch, Aykayem, Gliss!, dty & Tankengine all set off the bottom of the hill on Mountain Creek road for the climb up the hill. I watched on as those who needed them visited the first few caches. My first find was the multi. After two more TE caches to the north, we turned around for the climb up to Dowling dome. An easy walk up the track. the side trip to the south took us past a gap TE just had to fill. From the top of Downing, the way down past the last two caches was thick undergrowth and steep hillside. It seems DSD put a few more out the day after ! I will have to come back again.

Thanks for the cache Tankengine

A terrific morning out with Albida33, kittykatch, joolay, aykayem, tankengine, turtle284, & dty73. Perfect weather for it. Lots of exercise up and down the hills. Certainly the trickiest part was the walk back to the car. Great to get a patch of smilies in this area. TFTC.

Out for a ride and hike in Sherwood Forest this morning finding caches I didn’t get to on my last visit.

Today a quick ride up the hill then left the bike at an obvious spot before walking the remainder of the way into GZ.

Cache was found quickly and in very good condition. Spectacular views! A huge favourite from me.

Thanks, Tankengine - a great adventure.

Decided to turn off here on my way up the hill. A bit of a walk, but quite nice and grass not too long. Good views along the way of the dam, Urialla village and the homestead. Cache found all OK.

Thanks,

Out in Sherwood Forest plundering caches from the rich to feed the poor. This cache was found quickly and without issue. A bit of unlove going on here, some nice views across the way.
Signed and replaced, taking a TB before heading onto the next. TNLNSL TFTC

After a morning catching up on chores, it was a pleasure to get out for a walk. As usual TE provided some great rogaine training opportunities. This was my second walk of the day. After parking at Mountain Creek Road, I walked southwards along the base of the hill, and slowly siddled my way upwards once past the bush. Walked through a family of piglets but didn't see the adults. Arrived at GZ, and found the cache after reading the hint. Left TB. Then headed northwards up the ridge. TFTC.

Found at 4:00:00 PM

The dog needed a walk so I decided to walk over here. Drove to the locked gate on West Knob road and walked to the nearest point and made the steep climb. In hindsight coming up from the middle of the hill would have been easier. As I got close to GZ I passed a survey marker. I stopped and flipped over the paver covering the actual marker to see if it was an erstwhile trig point only to find a hibernating baby brown snake. Needless to say it was to cold for it to even more, but even so I decided I really didn't need to check out the marker plate after all. After that I sauntered over to GZ for a quick find.

Thanks Tankengine

Twenty kilometres of walking for geocaches with JohnnyBoyACT in the vicinty of the Lower Cotter Catchment area. The roads in the area as shown on the gps are often not where shown and some no longer exist, accordingly we walked a lot further than expected. Great views from here, our first cache for the day. TFTC.

A day out with Marmaduke Rothschild. Parked just off East West Rd for this one and enjoyed a -4degC walk to this lovely knoll. A fav from me due to the panoramic views, crystal clear and fresh today. TFTC TE.

**This Cache**
This cache is easy to reach by bike. Yes, it's a little challenging with a bike when the ground it so steep but it's a short push. The cycling is very easy between both TE caches so it paid off in time and effort. Loved the views and it's a shame more cachers haven't been here recently. Well worth the effort. TFTC Tankengine.

**Our Day**
With the SUV out of action the 2WD was called into action but restricted us to tared roads making our Plan A trip along the Brindabella Road to Piccadilly Circus out of the question. Plan B was put into full swing as a cycling trip to pick up 'Sherwood South' and then the 'Dowling Dome II' cache using our hybrid bikes.

The round trip included pushing our bikes up the steep 179m ascent directly below the 'Sherwood South' cache from the dirt track, then a surprisingly easy cycle along the ridge line between caches before then walking our bikes down over the edge at the trig further along but not before finding 'Dowling Dome II' not far away. In all this circuit was a 5.5km ride/walk with approx 250 ascent/descent over 2 hours. However, it took just 30 mins from the carpark to ride the dirt track (parallel to the main road) and the climb up to the first cache. At the top of the hill we did take our time admiring the views and taking photos however when we were back at the car at 12.30 pm we said "well that's not enough, what next?".

We had lunch at the Uriarra Primary School grounds and got internet reception to figure out Plan C.

We then decided that the Bullen Range trail would be good to cycle for the afternoon as we did not want to leave our bikes on the back of cars. We drove the 12km or so to the Bullen Range starting gates for our next adventure. We had our eye on 'Quirky Quartz' and 'Freshford Foothills' however, despite walking here 3 or 4 times in the past we had forgotten just how hilly this place is ie: predominately up hill all the way to the first cache for nearly 4 km. It took us over an hour to cycle/walk to the QQ cache and just 30mins to ride all the way back to the car. We abandoned the thought of the next cache as it was more than 4km away by bike and time was getting away. The round trip was 7.75 kms over 1.75 hours with a total ascent/decent of 297m. We were back in the car by 3.30pm.

Really glad that we did not think too much of Plan C otherwise we would have given it a miss as it was tiring having already cycled earlier in the day. However we loved the views and the easy ride back. BTW there were about 6 gates that we had to pass our bikes over each way and the 30min back to the car included stopping and handling our bikes over the gates.

Was nice to return to Sherwood and explore another corner of it. Bit of haze in the air from all the control burns, but we could still see all the landmarks including the Cotter Dam Reservoir and the white tips of the antennas of the Deep Space Tracking station
Fantastic spot and not the difficult to get to, could have stayed up here all day.

Cache spotted quickly

*FTF* **@11pm** with **DSD** Big Grin

**Animals spotted:** 3 Wombats, Feral Cat, Frogmouth, Baby Fox and of course the usual Kangaroo's (but surprisingly only a couple!)

**Animal Heard:** We heard quite a loud grunting/coughing sound coming from close by across the hill after we found the cache! The only thing we think it could have been is a pig. But it was extremely nerve wrecking, so we quickly descended the hill and Dan kept an eye out to make sure it wasn't coming for us!

---

When this cache came out this afternoon we didn't have enough time to grab it as we had things to do at home, so went for the other two instead. We agreed to head out to this cache around 7:30pm however if it was unlogged. Dan got side-tracked and forgot! Razz So it wasn't until 9:30pm until we actually left home when he plugged his phone in and saw my message!

Got to the parking area at 10:15, drove pretty slow out of Canberra as we were worried about Kangaroo's at this time of night, but strangely only spotted 1!

It was a very nice and pleasant walk along the track for the first couple of km's, but then we finally got to the point where we had to head straight up hill, only a couple hundred metres but it was certainly steep! We saw a HUGE wombat only a couple metres off the track at one point, but it didn't budge!

Got to GZ and after reading the hint we soon had CIH, woohooo! We signed the log and celebrated, and just as we were leaving came the loud noises from the bush! So we got down the hill a bit quicker!

The drive back into Canberra was even more interesting, first we saw a feral cat on the side of the road, which hunched down and watched us instead of running away. We then saw a Frogmouth sitting on a road reflector, we seemed to have stunned it so much because we even reversed and parked next to it and it still didn't fly away! So managed a picture. Then even further along we saw a baby fox on the side of the road, but it darted through the long grass pretty quick when it saw us coming!

Thanks for the cache and the really interesting night adventure Tankengine! Was heaps of fun and worthwhile! Finally got home after midnight!
