24 Nov 2024 10:09am. The weather was Heavy Intensity Rain 22C 72% 1 m/s . Found with PamJ as we looked around Penola. Fav point for a very nice cache. I enjoy Info Centre caches and have one at Rutherglen. Thanks GeoSA_Hides for your contribution to the game. *Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*
Found with gmj3191. Our visit to Penola coincided with a Christmas Street Party which added to the atmosphere.
Staying in Mt Gambier, we decided to take a trip to Penola. My scots heritage grandmother used to say these famous four lines of poetry frequently, and for many years I thought she was the author of this gem of wisdom. I was quite disappointed when I found out that she was not. I calculated the coordinates, and soon had the cache in hand.
This cache does deserve a favourite! Again I couldn't make the find but Jay did for me. The gallery next door was a lovely place to visit also
Life is mostly froth and bubble was transferred from GeocachingSA to user GeoSA_Hides
Not often that poets are honoured publicly in this way in Australia so it was lovely to see this 'Poets Corner. TFTC GeoVenture2020
Yeeha! The Wild West is calling and Snips and Co and I are traversing along the Southern and Western Victorian borders.Today we will travel around Penola, hopefully finding a few geocaches in new LGAs and some scenic spots.this is such an interesting town with fascinating peopleGZ also gave us more insights to the history but it was a bit strange to search in this area without permission. in speaking with the lovely volunteers, they told us to ignore the hint and just look around.. with permission sought, the good sized cache was soon signed and we could explore some more.
I had no idea why there were no puddings around town until I realised that I was thinking Norman Lindsay but I was in Adam Lindsay Gordon territory. DOHLuckily for me, at WP1 I learnt all about Adam and understood the error of my ways. Off to WP2 - this is a cracker - we walk in - suspiciously looking around when we hear if you were told to look right as you enter; its wrong LOL. With a new hint in hand, thanks to the Info staff, Kristy quickly found the cache, we admired the craftmanship, signed and continued our tour of the art gallery and history museum. Thank you GeocachingSA
Ah, yes. This didn't present any serious difficulties as far as the puzzlement was concerned, but rather than ransack the premises I availed myself of the hint and the prize was soon to hand.I thank you.
We are on a road trip to WA and thought we would pick up a few caches along the way to Murray Bridge today. This one was found with the assistance of a very helpful lady at the given coordinates. We had a lovely chat to her while signing the log.
Solved while driving to Penola and found with the help of a person at the Information Centre. Found with Nibletricecakes, KrispyStrips and k8tybee on our Road to Esperance trip. TFTC
We stayed in Penola for a few days and wanted to find some local caches. We enjoyed walking around the historic township taking in the many heritage buildings. We enjoyed several cafes and a superb dinner at Piper's. We also met a local cacher at George the Farmer, which was fun.We love coming across the border to go on holiday and cache in South Australia. All caches were found in excellent condition unless otherwise stated.Thank you, GeocachingSA, for this Multicache.
Had tried this one over the years but the GZ was not always open. Today we enjoyed the puzzle and the find. Hurrah for the workers at GZ as they were friendly and helpful.
Travelling with richlink as part of our Caravan Geocaching Trip. It's moving day today, a big move... Narracoorte to Penola. Touring the area or using geocaching as our guide. Thanks for the hide. LNCU.
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA. This is our kind of caching - back country roads. Windy arvo and hardy any traffic. Enjoyed this one even met someone who works there who used to live in next town to us. LNCU
We certainly got some strange looks whilst searching for this one. We were fortunate that there weren't a lot of muggles here when we were. It took a little while but we are happy to say, we didn't take up the lady behind the counters offer for help. Thanks for the fun of this cache.
Geoturtle37 and I are slowly dotting our way home finding caches along the way. Unfortunately, we do have limited time so that curbs how many we can stop for. We were lucky that there weren't many muggles present at the time of our visit so that made things quite a bit easier. The lady behind the counter said to let her know when we were ready to give up. We considered it but kept going so are pleased to add a smiley here now. Thanks for placing the cache for all to enjoy.
SL at 2:40pm. After doing some studying this morning at home, I decided that I needed some fresh air and a change of scenery so a drive to Penola was in order. I took MuggleMasterKid9 with me and dragged along bdiaw. After having lunch from the local bakery and checking out the op shop, it was time to cache. Did a quick calculation for the final and headed there. It was not found easily, but we quickly had hints from one of the locals. We had to take two of the free calendars, which contain some stunning photography work.*TFTC GeoVenture2020 and the challenge!
Decided to pop into Penola for a little break driving from Mt Gambier to Naracoorte. What a lovely little town and Ive enjoyed finding this geocache from start to end. A nice look around inside the building too. A FP from me too. And dropped an international TB too.
off on a jaunt to the south east and enjoying its beautiful scenery and experiencestoday the weather is cool and overcast so we decided to focus on driving and views from the car. maybe a winery / eatery or two?of course if i can get my muggle partner to stop for a cache i happily take the bonus!we arrived in penola enjoyed a coffee and this cache was the closest and obvious choicethe cache wasnt exactly where o would have expected, but the friendly staff paired lunch venues recommendations with smilie success tftc GeocachingSAand bringing me to this specific spot
Suscoe was heading to Nelson today, it was a cool start at Murray Bridge and travelling through Keith the temperature dropped to around 3 degrees. But the sun came through and it ended up a lovely later Winter’s day. Our caching destination was Penola with Adventure Labs, Multis and Traditionals on our list.
Penola is a delightful little town with interesting history around every corner.
Thanks GeoVenture2020 for this cache.

Having just enjoyed four fabulous days in the Beachport and surrounding areas, it was time to head back home. However this cache was a planned stopover as the final coordinates had been gathered on a previous trip but the timing wasn't right to access the final location. Today it was timed perfectly and after a bit of searching, the cache was finally spotted. TFTC GeoVenture2020.
An early morning tea stop in Penola and the opening hours worked in my favour. Left my almond milk flat white to cool whilst I checked this one out.
Nicely done!

While Mr Morris was still on leave we snuck over the border for a few days and while the weather was a mixed bag we had a nice camp at Lake Leake and managed to find a few caches.
Today we knew the weather was going to be terrible so we headed to Penola for some indoor fun and to catch up with some friends. We managed to grab a couple of caches while the rain abated. Information gathered and we were soon enjoying some indoor fun.

Staying in Penola for a couple of days and decided this was the day for caching , all in the town were found most fairly quick but one or two took a few minutes searching, spent some time looking here only to find we were at the wrong door even so the cache was found nowhere near where the hint suggested

Exploring around the Coonawarra area today, guided by the caches laid out around us .
More interesting history in a place we'd usually just glance and and keep on going [:o)].
GZ was a challenge in itself, but received a hint from someone nearby .

Found with The Teddies. Would’ve taken us a lot less time to find if we’d paid attention to the size of the cache
Found it… for a cache that size it took me a short embarrassing while. I took to much from the hint when I should have just used my eyes!

Today was another big day with the aim of finding 11 cache types in a day, but we weren't sure how we would go as the weather in Millicent was bad, cold, wet and windy! After meeting Doctor Owl in Millicent we set off on our day and thankfully didn't get too wet and by the time we reached Penola we had sunshine and blue skies. [^]
After a long day we achieved our goal and ended the day at the Carpenter Rocks Tavern for a lovely hot meal before going back to the accommodation to get warm and dry.
Had a lovely drive/walk around Penola gathering info for the Adventure Labs and finding a few caches along the way. Really enjoyed all the old buildings along Petticoat Lane.
Enjoyed this multi even though it did take us a while to spot at GZ.

The weather is even more miserable but nothing was going to dampen our spirits, today’s mission was to finish boiling a giant crayfish ?? ??
Fueled up on delicious egg & bacon sangas, drinks and snacks stashed, we were on our way.
Along the way we kept our eyes peeled and managed to tick off a few trads and add some more smileys to our map.
Thanks to the many hands and minds putting together these series for the long awaited event.

Found at 12:52 during a fantastic extended weekend away with Shonkylogic and Southern Cross Caching. We had grand plans to complete swathes of powertrails and solved puzzles, but the weather slowed us down a bit. Even so, it was a lot of fun, and we passed my goal - to get my 9000th find
Friday, day 1, had us driving and caching from morning in Adelaide until the 6pm event in Millicent.
Day 2 focussed on the fishing series, wine bottle, and numerous other caches in that vicinity.
Day 3 was our slowest, due to the worse weather, but still a lot of fun.
Day four, after doing SFE series and nearby caches, plus those we passed, I arrived home at about 8pm, after finding my 9000th cache along the way.
Great to catch up with many of the usual faces, some others we hadn't seen for a long time, and a few new faces too.
Thanks for the hides

This was easier than I expected because as I entered the final location another cacher had already found the cache and had the logbook ready to sign.
Uni and Medusa, Southern Cross Caching, and I ... shonkylogic spent the October Long Weekend in 2021 attending the Easter 2020 Mega Event at Millicent.
Today it was pouring with rain for much of the time. We can cache in light drizzle, even light rain, but when it's bucketing down the fun stops and its not so pleasant. So the numbers today weren't as high as the other days, but we still managed to find 11 different cache types today. We started with a virtual, then a locationless, trad, multi, mystery, earth, letterbox, wherigo, and finally three events - the mega itself, the penola event and the CITO where we planted native vegetation.
We came well equipeed in the Pahero, with not one, not two but THREE TOTTs to help us. Even that wasn't sufficient for all the hides, sometimes you just don't have the right tool for the job.
We enjoyed meeting up with old friends, in these days of Covid is really is very special to be able to hold an event like this.
Thanks GeoVenture2020 for placing and maintaining the cache

Today was the day we left Renmark and headed South to Millicent so we could attend the Mega, along the way we collected some standout caches and the Wandering Heroes series.
Even with the numbers being down it was great to attend a Mega and at least get to meet some fellow cachers after so long and catch up with a few people, we flew over from Tassie on Thursday and after spending a few days in Adelaide we headed Northeast to clean up some series and then head South to Millicent for the start of the Mega long weekend.
This trip has changed so many times since it was first booked and I'm glad we got to do it at long last, to start with it was just myself and GooseandEgg nipping over for the Mega and then it was a few more days with the addition of 1 toolman, then with lockdown it was back to two of us but then another Tassie cacher in the shape of BudgieTas stepped up to the plate and we were back on for an over a week trip to grab a few caches before the Mega and then finish off with Millicent before flying home on the Tuesday.
Thanks for the cache.

Heading south from Remark to Millicent today to make it to the welcome event tonight, we again cherry picked from an extensive list of it would have taken a couple of days to get there.
The Millicent Mega trip had been a long time in the making, for the Tassie trio of stainless steel rat, budgietas and gooseandegg, due to a couple of false starts thanks to COVID19. More and more caches were added to the extensive list as planning was being finalized. We focused on old caches, large caches, certain D/Ts, virtual caches, the On your Bike series and a few other special ones on our journey. Our route saw us caching in Adelaide for a few days before heading north via Gawler to the Barossa in preparation for the On your Bike series, whilst basing ourselves at a gorgeous cottage in Waikerie. We continued on to Renmark for a night before the long trek south to Millicent.
Some of the many highlights along the way were Gawler Fort Knox, Dustin’s Cache, Barossa High and Riverland (the oldest surviving geocache in South Australia).
At the Mega we caught up with a few of our caching friends, made some new ones, and of course missed many who could not make it this time. The weather was not the best in Millicent, and a COVID19 situation in Mt Gambier altered our plans but we had plenty of caches to keep us busy between showers, including tree climbs, plenty of adventure labs, and the entertaining Finding a Fish series - giving the new pole a good workout for the first time.
Thanks to all the CO’s who have placed and maintained all these caches that made our adventure so memorable.

We planned to grab this cache on arrival in Millicent as we suspected that it might not have opening hours over the long weekend.
A great cache and favorite point given
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Early in 2021 I received an invite from GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to join them on a caching trip to the Mega in South Australia. As planning got underway some caches with high Favorite points, very old caches, and the On Your Bike Series were listed as "must-dos"
The trip ended up being 10 days of solid and very enjoyable caching with quite a few highlights. The find count for the trip was around the 950 mark when all GCA, Adventure Lab, and GC caches are included. The high point for finds was a day of 335 finds in the one day, which would have been more, but a sudden storm put the end to caching for the day. No one was interested in getting out of the car to find a cache in a downpour in the dark
We were lucky enough to find Gawler Fort Knox, Dustin's Cache, and my favorite for the trip Barossa High (From 21st of January 2001 with the original log book still in place) all in the one day.
Unfortunately, the caching around the mega was beset by bad weather and the day we had put aside for Mount Gambier was scrapped due to a covid case in Mount Gambier on the previous day, so we avoided the area. We all enjoyed the Fishing series and just managed to get the remaining of these before the light failed for the day.
In the end I managed to completed my D/T grid for the first (and possibly the second time) which was my aim for the year, although some of the D/T combinations were not really achievable in Tasmania without a 3 day overnight bush walk.

A great cache and favorite point given

We have been travelling around this great country, calling into see many different places,
now is a quick chance on the computer to catch up with logs and to put some smileys on the map for where we have been.

Spring has definitely sprung in Penola
An amazing multi, with plenty of history along the wall toGZ
Meandering up the Western Australia coast, the Northern Territory, and South Australia, we have finally arrived down south of SA.
Down the Highway and byways, tracks and trails, the geological, historical, the fun geocaches, traveling this great country through the eyes of a geocacher has lead us to some fantastic outlooks.
Thanks to all the COs for placing these Geocaches, it makes the Adventure more interesting.
We found your cache container, a nice quick find, and with signing duties done and dusted we replaced it as found.
Definitely a favourite point from us here

A bit of history here to absorb.
A great hide.
Helpful staff who enjoyed our momentary cache blindness.

Collected the data and made my way to GZ, where I encountered the only volunteer who didn't know about the placement. In fairness, she was from another centre, but I had to make my own way to GZ without assistance from the staff. TFTC GV2020.
Great concept and a fav from me.

Beaut weather to be out for a drive and grabbing a few caches around Penola.nice multi, fave TFTC!
What a lovely town. Love the art and poetry. The guy in the cache final spot was lovely too. Tftc and bringing us to the main street of Penola. We will be back.
Data collection for this multi was straightforward. With the coordinates for GZ calculated, we headed off. We entered from the front door but did not locate the cache. Very helpful staff pointedd us in the right direction. Evidently the hint applied if you entered from the car park. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks GeoVenture2020 for the cache.
This is our last day in South Australia as our impromptu holiday must come to an end and we are heading to Mount Gambier to do the lab adventures there and picking up any that pop up on the screen.
This cache sounded quite interesting so we stopped at wpt1, collected the required information after reading all the plaques, did the substitutions and headed off to gz and we were happy to find the place open and wandered inside. We used the hint and still came up empty handed so wandered off to have a chat to Katz who is a lovely lady who explained "there are two doors'
and the hint only works if you come in through the correct one.
After this the cache was quickly found and our name was added to the log before returning it as it was.
Thanks again GeoVenture2020 for the cache.
