Found 9 Nov 2024 at 1:39:38pmAfter the nearby 4000 event, I went to find some super cool caches in the area Success.Wow, an impressive hide, well worth the visit. Many thanks to OSHFAM for placing The Time Machine for us all to find. Hmmm... where should we go for today's streak cache that doesn't eat into the local supply and is going to be worth the drive?OSHFAM territory, of course!Once The Time Machine caught my eye I knew we were Mordialloc-bound as I've had this one on the to-do list forever and the CO had very conveniently replaced the broken component within the last 24 hours... must be a sign!A convenient carpark was found nearby and we had this cute little park to ourselves as we got to investigating the mystery that the CO had left for us this time. The first component of the cache was quickly identified - we were tempted to smash it open 2021-style but instead opted to follow the very clear and straightforward instructions in the description Soon the funky salvaged key was in our hands and we were on to the second component.Absolutely awesome use of the space here - thoroughly enjoyed how it manages to blend in and house such a cache within!A bit of time was spent marvelling at it all (and giggling at the nearby sign - photo attached) before the logbook was signed with its first visitor in a little while - hopefully there'll be plenty more with the clever fix recently applied.Needless to say, a favourite point for this exceptionally unique traditional cache has been added. Thanks to OSHFAM for another wonderful creation!
After searching for a solution for many months, the cost of a new key is far too much, replacing the safe is too difficult.I have come up with a home made solution. Waiting for the glue to dry for 24hrs before putting it out there tomorrow and finally putting this one back in the game.See photo
Turns out a new key is not only expensive, it also does not solve the problem as it can have the same issue occur with the main body coming away from the handle. The cost of a new key is actually $70+ as the first guy who quoted me $42 was inexperienced and gave me a bum steer. For the cost of a new key, I might as well replace the whole safe for less than the $70+ quoted. The advice I was given was to use a safe that uses normal house key design which are easy to replace. The key in my current safe is the old fashioned ones which are not standard hence the difficulty I am having replacing it.Please afford me 2 more weeks to source a more suitable safe and to remove the old one. Fairly straight forward process but time is not something I have a lot of lately which is why I have struggled to stay on top of maintenance.I would be devastated if this cache was to be archived as it was 2nd cache I hid and it's very special and unique. Please give me a little more time to sort this one out. I would greatly appreciate it.
Unfortunately the fix I had failed. Looking into 3D printing options. And getting quotes for a key replacement with a locksmith which is proving expensive.
I just watched a You Tube video on how I can solder the two pieces together and then try out a Steel Stick epoxy putty over the top of it. Need to give it a few days to cure before I'll try and put it into the lock and see if it will hold and not break on the first use. Stay tuned......The unfortunate thing with this key is because it's a safe key it's not just a matter of going to bunnings and getting a new key cut. It's a custom specialty job. Fingers crossed the epoxy works
What should have been an easy fix, wasn't. The material the key is made from is not suitable for welding and it didn't hold.Going to have to find a suitable material to join the key body back onto its handle. I don't particularly want to spend $42 to make a new key as I've been quoted. Unfortunately this cache relies on the key to open it and it's not an easy fix.Need more time to think and try other solutions. If it comes to it I'll have to have a new key made.
Out getting some caches decided to do this one as it has a lot of faves did not disappoint tftc
Cute little find, although key was snapped when we discovered it, we have placed it back as best as possible and used a tott to help with turning the key
Have been notified key is broken. Will have to get it from GZ and take home to weld it back together.
The best cache weve ever come across, cant believe the amount of thought, effort and time put into it. TFTC Definitely getting a FT from us!!
OMG!!! How can you only award 1 favorite point!!!! Thats wrong!! My god what a cache I read other logs and thought ohhh I suppose its a good one thats been done before haha nah!!! Got the first part no worries but couldnt get the second part for the life of me.. I messaged the c/o and a previous finder who got straight back to me but had found it 2 years ago. As I was messaging her something made me look at something and went to try it.. taadaaa you bloody beauty!!! What a cleverly constructed cache that is for all of us to enjoy. Hats off to you absolutely wonderful tftc
What a fun and trick cache. More than 1.5 difficulty. Favourite point from me: David
Thank you to everyone who has come here and enjoyed visiting The Time Machine. It was my 2nd hide when I first started in 2019. Thankyou GJMMelb for coming back to give it a fav point marking a milestone being its 100th
One of the best caches we have found. The first part was soon found, the second took a bit longer. Thanks for the challenge .Took 2TB
We have sooooo many solved puzzles that we decided today would be a Priority Puzzle Pickings day. So we set off and ironically this was the next cache we stopped at lol. We also had some TBs which had been in our possession since late last year so we wanted to move them on. What a fabulous cache this was and well deserving of all its FPs! We obtained what we needed then obtained a further needed item then looked around and GMelb sussed out the next step. The logbook was soon in hand! And the Time Machine How cute!! Left 2 TBs for the next lucky person to go back in time. TFTC OSHFAm - GJMMelb- a fave point will be awarded when we have 1 to give!!
After doing another similar library cache nearby, we sought this one out and it didnt disappoint! Very clever and creatively contradicted, well worth a favourite point. Thanks so much for placing this here! Log signed several weeks ago, just catching up now. ??
What an absolute ripper of a cache. We didnt know what to expect, but we should know by now to always expect the unexpected with any of this COs caches. For the record, I contributed absolutely nothing in finding this cache. The science fiction fanatic, Steve, was in his element. I stood back and watched him go through each of the stages with my mouth open. My god OSHFAM, your imagination and ingenuity is out of this world.Brilliant! Thanks for the fun.
Another incredible cache, very cleverly hidden, left a trackable in. Definitely a new favourite.TFTC!-The Fast Dinos
Maintenance Check All good here. Everything in place. Added swaps. Left TB Travel Slug Geocoin in cache for someone to take on new adventures.
1087 for the tribeMelbourne put on some fine weather for the tribe and we enjoyed a number of geocaching adventures this evening while finding a smorgasbord of 7x traditionals, 1x Mystery, 3x AL sites, 2 Virtuals and a Wherigo which had a total of some 750 well earned Favourite points, plus a few more after our visit. All caches were in good condition, with room enough to place a name in the logbook. A big thanks to all COs for placing and maintaining these caches. Wow, what a cache! Found the first part of the cache no worries but got stuck at the second step. As I wouldnt have another chance to go for this one any time soon I sent a message to the CO, went and ate some AMAZING pizza nearby and thankfully the CO responded promptly to my cry for help. An AMAZING cache to go with my AMAZING pizza and AMAZING sunset earlier. Have another well earned fave point Thanks for the cache and thanks for the hint!
What an awesome cache! FP for sure Ive only got another 6 weeks before I finish working in Mentone and start a new job closer to home. With that in mind there are a number of caches in the area Ive had my eye on for a long time and this was one of them, so with a calendar hole to fill, I made the stop on the way home.I read the book about thirty years ago and have a vague recollection of what happened.I had no issues finding the Morlocks Tunnel and soon had the key to the door of the White Sphinx. Finding the door proved to be a bit more of a challenge though. I persisted though and when I finally worked out where it was I was blown away by the brilliance of the construction. Naturally I had to take photos of every part of the cache to show my family.Im so glad you repaired this cache when it was badly treated. I honestly dont know whats wrong with some people!OSHFAM this is a brilliant cache very worthy of being found by everyone.
After navigating around the roadworks with a few wrong turns we finally arrived at gz. We'd working out the information we needed before we arrived but found the second part first and were left a little confused until we checked something we'd dismissed. Soon everything fell in place and we were signing the very clever hide . Another FP coming your way. Tftc
Found after witnessing the final train leave the old Parkdale station. This one has alluded me once before so was glad to be able to figure out the puzzle this time around. Favourite for the amazing cache design! TFTC
Thanks OSHFAM! This is one of the best caches weve come across. definite from us. So cleverly put together, with solid guidance from hints.Have not read the Time Machine, but off to local library to find it. Eloise at The Plaza
Wow! This is such a cool cache. My 5-year old and I loved this. A neat little tucked away spot that had us guessing and then the cache unravels and begins to reveal itself. So impressive. Put this on your to do list.
Teamwork paid off with this delightfully created and presented cache.
Truly entertaining, engaging, ingenious, a little challenging - and lots and lots of fun.
Perfect activity following a pre Fathers Day lunch at Mordi. Even the geo-spouses were just a little enthused, we think
A nosey dog tried to distract us but we were not to be denied the final prize.
Wonderful work that fully deserves yet another favourite point

**Traditional Find #3193**
My caching mojo well and truly left me today. I found two caches on my own, needed help with two others and DNF'd on the last one I attempted. That is a very unimpressive strike rate. I found the first part of this cache without too much trouble but try as I might, I couldn't find the second. Fortunately the CO quickly responded to my request for help and I then soon had the cache in hand. An incredible amount of work has gone into this cache but I can only award one favourite point.

OSHFAM Your caches make me squeal with delight...well, that's once I figure things out ...and that includes where to start... do not go to the rear of the Bee premises like I did. Park at the recommended spot....well I figured out the 1st part got the golden key...but then what?... As I turned around in circles pondering my situation, I saw something and thought, "Surely not", but yep .... very awesome, very clever, very deserving of a fav point now onto the next library. (BTW, that's the first time I've ever seen such a lock)
Out caching in the Mordialloc area with xambo4u on a very chilly day.
WOW - what a cache
I had a wonderful time travelling in the Time Machine, exploring all the places, and being superbly rewarded at the end. A favourite point for the ingenious cache, thanks OSHFAM.

Out and about with echidna44 on a very chilly day. Needed to search a while to get a car park but soon a GZ. Could it be that, a little nervous to start with as I have been caught with a few of these real ones. Checked the hint and knew we were safe. Google for the required info and took the next step. Now where to look hummmmmmmmmm. Echidna used her logic and we made the very clever find. What a beauty. Loved this one. It gets a fav from me. Thanks OSHFAM for your work here.
Found it! Last cache for the day and definitely the best one I found today. I had seen the favourite ratings and had made a bee line to this one before heading home for the evening. At GZ something out of place attracted my attention that required further investigation. Soon I had the hiding place revealed but how to enter?! Looking around I investigated a couple of place SL but came up empty handed. I then made a closer inspection of another nearby item and voila the entry key was in my hand. Aha! It took me 3 guesses and the cache was attained. Mmm, I should have guessed first go really!! Fabulous cache, well thought out and constructed. I left everything back in placed and hopefully even less obvious than when I found it. TFTC SL and a favourite point from me! ️
!!!! Loved it! (No need to climb through hole in fence by the way!) Thank you!
What a great cache! I haven't seen one like this in years. Well done. Great fun.
With geodog Tonka on a perfect caching weather day
Driving to Melbourne from Port Lincoln to visit my son and had a few picked out on the way.
So picking a few while here and came across this one. First Thankyou for the parking coords. Not being from here it was so so helpful.
Seen both first but padlock on the gate stumped me. Stood there for a good 15 minutes looking around for a key to that
Then went back to the other things I found. Ohhh a key hole. Brilliant but we’re is the key
Tried the other thing again and wola key in hand Time Machine found. Brilliant. Away from muggles was very helpful too.
FP from Tonka and I. Have left a path tag for owner or next cacher that collects them

After a very miserable and wet Melbourne morning we headed out after lunch with the geo Sister / Sister-in-law who was down from Bendigo for a few days to find some caches we spotted with a large number of favourites. We arrived at GZ and after some deliberating and investigating Mr Pooky soon found what he was looking for then it wasn't long before the geo Sister / Sister-in-law found the required tool to retrieve the log. TF this well constructed and thought out cache, a favourite from us.
TFTC great hide. Had my daughter and I confused for 5 minutes once we had the key. But finally worked it out. Favourite from me! Thank you for the gift iamapom!!

I really, really enjoyed this cache. First, great placement. Although it is formally within the dog park one would be unlucky to be interrupted by a free roaming canine given the separation between GZ and the main play area. Secondly, the camo of both parts although the first part has been the recipient of some unwanted attention. Lastly, the concept - I enjoyed reading The Time Machine and the construction of the second part invoked the novel. Well done, K.
Work arranged itself rather nicely this week giving me a period of six days off. I spent a bit of time working out which direction i wanted to head for caching fun and decided to have another go at Melbourne and the surrounding suburbs. I then took quite a while coming up with a list of caches to target, there are just so many possibilities! I packed, had accommodation sorted, and even had a muggle caching buddy lined up to do the driving. Perfect! Too perfect... . Plans changed at the last minute and i came down to the city solo and without the accommodation option. I wasnt sure if i would keep the rest of the plan or head for the hills instead. Time will tell.
I loved the fun theme you have built into this clever little puzzle, it is just a delight. Thank you, and heres another fav point.

Out and about with My good caching mate Omegaman1971, there are always plenty of laughs while we are turning caches into smiles.
This is one of the caches found today. This was a fantastic cache that gets a Fav for sure. I used to frequent this building quiet often back in my Bee keeping days and knew the late Gordon Redpath well.
Thanks OSHFAM for the cache.

It was also great to be back caching in the sun.

Out with my mate Bouch today and he wanted to see what this geocaching thing is that I’m always talking about. I spotted this one on the map and thought it sounded like a great first cache for him to find. He was excited to get the code word correct and was pleasantly surprised by the hide.
I’m not sure if he’ll sign up yet with his own account but it’s certainly got him thinking about it.
I was quite impressed with this cache as well and I’m giving it a FP as well.

Lucky I came past today as I found a crucial bit of camouflage missing . Had a wander around and found the missing bit nearby.. It appears a drunken person must’ve removed it as it was next to a empty bottle of bourbon.
Checked all other components in cash and everything is in good working order .
TB “Thomas the Steam Engine (from the Netherlands)” dropped into the cache.
Thank you to everyone who have been visiting and your lovely log entries.

I chose this cache, because it was close to a station. It will give me a cache in this council area. Slowly clearing out council areas in Melbourne. Good for challengers.
A magnificent cache. So well made. Luckily I had done my research on the code word before I came. I had a longer word, but it shortened to fit here. The cache and log are in great condition. It would be a good cache to leave a trackable in. Another favourite point for the cache. Well done, and TFTC OSHFAM.

We used the latter part of the afternoon to look for some caches in the Kingston LGA to meet, in part, the requirements of some challenge caches. This was one of the caches and we were very pleased that this cache was chosen.
The first stage of the process was a little difficult because the contents had been returned in such a way that they jammed. It took some effort to get access to the key, From there cache retrieval was straightforward.
This is an exceptionally well planned, designed and presented cache which led to a quality caching experience. It certainly earns a favourite from us.
Thanks OSHFAM for an excellent cache.

After a day of DNFs I saw this cache on my map and before picking up the in laws nearby decided to have a go.
Parkdale library was one of my local libraries as a kid and was sad to see my painting on the fence from the 90s was gone and a new fence there now (I think it was still there when I found a previous cache at this location about 10 years ago and from memory I attached a photo of my artwork).
What a great little cache and puzzle! A lot of work has clearly gone into it and always makes me happy to see the effort that has gone into caches like this. Favourite point from me.
Thanks for the cache!

This was the most fun I’ve ever had finding a cache! I was with my cousin Ava and she cracked the code!
Visiting from Cairns, and had a great dinner with a friend at a nearby restaurant and noticed a geocache about 100m away from where we parked. After finding our way into GZ, it was only when confronted with a confounding container that I actually checked the cache description, previously thinking this would be like any other cache we had encountered in our Victorian travels - yet another mint tin. But no! This was quite the adventure.
After casting my mind back to high school readings, I came up with the right clues. But this was only part of the journey. With every twist and turn, I was astounded by how much sheer work has gone into a traditional cache. This is a phenomenal hide, and I am actually glad to have stumbled upon it rather than actively seeking it out. The surprise was everything. Thank you for capping off our wonderful night. This was a special night meeting someone special in our lives that loves geocaching as much as us. And overjoyed that we can thoroughly recommend this cache so close to one of their favourite restaurants! TFTC

After attending a CITO in Geelong, we headed into The Swedish Furniture shop to pick up a few items for the home renovation and, of course, some delicious Swedish meatballs.
We decided to take the Mornington Peninsula route home, catch the last ferry across to Queenscliff, and cache our way there.
We haven't done much caching on the Mornington Peninsula and want to rectify this.
The weather was not the greatest. It was cold and rainy, but fortunately no wind.
The area was utterly muggle free, making it simpler to find the cache and then find our way into the cache.
The cache is in excellent condition, and we can see why it has so many favourite points, and we will be adding another.
Thank you for this cache, OSHFAM.

What a great cache. I wondered if I had mistook it for a field puzzle but a quick Google got me going and glad I solved it, what a great idea.
This was an impressive cache. I actually found part of the cache quickly but wasn't sure about the second part. There seemed to be an object which would normally have another use. But on closer inspection something useful was obtained. Answering the question posed in the description provided the next step and we soon had the log book. This cache was nicely thought out and deserves a favourite point. Fortunately GZ was well shielded from passers by. Thanks tom OSHFAM for the cache.

Down visiting the in-laws this weekend and decided with minimal time remaining to search by fave points. Brought us to one by the wonderful Oshfam and wow deserving of ever favourite point and more! How fun! Thank you so much!!!!
Also met a cute lizard who let me relocate him from cache to a fun leafy spot nearby.

Oh, wow, wow, wow. What a ripper cache. We found the first part OK but struggled a little with the second part. One we were put on the right track, the log book revealed itself. This is one of the best caches I have seen in a long while and I would give it more than one favourite if I could. Thanks OSHFAM, found with Alansee today.
Found with McLookers on a great day for caching. Well, this is a great cache! I was here some months ago but couldn't look because of a muggle very close to GZ. I was glad because I was able to share the find with a friend. WP 1 was easy enough, but GZ eluded us, until we PAFd but before he could give us the answer, we had it! 2 faves coming your way OSHFAM!

What a clever little cache this was not looking into the cache I was awfully surprised when I arrived and saw the amount of favourite points. To which are well deserved.
After the short walk and a little bit of puzzling this cache was found and happily takes a favourite point from me, thanks for the cache and the effort.

I found one part of this puzzle but could not fathom the white sphinx. Half and hour later I decided to ask the CO for help. I returned at the end of a long caching day with the required information and did the business. This is a truly brilliant cache. Love it.
This was a a fun cache carefully placed away from picnicking muggles .. no one cared when I wandered by. Found the first part of the cache quickly.. it was disappointing to see that someone had tried to pry open the front .. nevertheless the cache still worked as intended.. I wondered and wandered for a bit looking for the second part of the cache … Doh! How could I be so blind .. the second part was very clever indeed.. no spoilers ..
