Staying at Mt Gambier, we decided to take a trip to Millicent and Penola today. I solved this multi a couple of days ago when we were in Penola, but could not work out how to get to GZ, and decided I had miscalculated the coordinates. I checked on Google Maps and decided that I was actually correct. Fortunately we returned here today, which provided an opportunity for find the cache. This is an excellent multi with a fitting final GZ and cache container.
A lovely wander through the names of people who lost their lives so we may live in peace. We noted the names needed for the cache and notes how many of the same surnames there were. How the families must have suffered. I loved the location of the final - very appropriate on many levels. Finally, to lift the spirits, an amazing camo! Thanks hevwalker, Im glad you kept this one in the game.
snips and co and i were in town for a couple of days and could easily have stayed much longer. this was our last geocache before we left and it was a nice ending to our stay.penola has beautifully persevered buildings, nice town culture, delicious wineries, scenery galore and a wonderful way to share their history of the people and their sacrifices and achievements.this multi was a fun 'eye spy' game and really made you think about the people. the final destination and geocache was well themed.thank you hevwalker for sharing a bit about your town.
Suscoe was heading home today after a delightful few days caching around the Millicent area.It was a sunny sky and we were enjoying the countryside again.Lots of sheep and cattle. Thanks to GeocachingSa for this multi. We did the calculations on our last visit to Penola, today we had some time to find it.
We stayed in Penola for a few days and wanted to find some local caches. We enjoyed walking around the historic township taking in the many heritage buildings. We enjoyed several cafes and a superb dinner at Piper's. We also met a local cacher at George the Farmer, which was fun.We love coming across the border to go on holiday and cache in South Australia. All caches were found in excellent condition unless otherwise stated.Thank you, GeocachingSA, for this Multicache.
13/07/2024 3:21:00 PMI'd previously avoided this one but took the plunge today, and after a couple of laps had a set of coords, and took a drive the locate the sneakily hidden cache. Thanks GeoVenture2020Find recorded using GCDroid and logged using GSAK
We are travelling with richlink as part of our Annual Caravan Geocaching trip using geocaching as our guide. We love touring these back roads. Nice hide here, a fave point from us. Thanks for the cache. LNCU.
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA. This is our kind of caching - back country roads. Thanks for the hideLNCU
With Featherdown today Penola bound on day 6 of our SA adventure. Finding heaps of great caches on this trip.Overnighting in this area so the multis can be tackled.Clever hide here. Not what I was expecting!!A favourite point for the experience Cheers
SL at 3:35pm. After doing some studying this morning at home, I decided that I needed some fresh air and a change of scenery so a drive to Penola was in order. I took MuggleMasterKid9 with me and dragged along bdiaw. After having lunch from the local bakery and checking out the op shop, it was time to cache. Did a quick calculation for the final, and we headed there. It was not found right away, but bdiaw spotted it in the end. Great hide.*Signed log as FWD and MMK9.*TFTC GeoVenture2020 and the fun challenge!
Penola is probably the closest area to home where there are enough caches to warrant us staying for a week or so. This was an easy and enjoyable cache to do and once we had collect the required info we were onto GZ. SL TFTC
This was tricky, but happy to make a find. I need to remember to read things first. TFTC GeoVenture2020.
While Mr Morris was still on leave we snuck over the border for a few days and while the weather was a mixed bag we had a nice camp at Lake Leake and managed to find a few caches.
Today we knew the weather was going to be terrible so we headed to Penola for some indoor fun and to catch up with some friends. We manged to grab a couple of caches while the rain abated. Information gathered and the hide had us circling a couple of times only to realise it was very similar to one of our own and to trust the coordinates.
Thanks for the fun GeocachingSA

A group of us met just out of Dimboola with the intention of heading to Millicent after a few days there. It was great that we were joined by a couple more to make our trip even more enjoyable. Thanks for the cache which was found with no difficulties, once we had acquired the necessary information.
A group of fellow cachers started by camping a couple of days near Dimboola then set off towards Millicent. We picked up lots of caches along the way, this being one of them. Thanks for placing this cache for us to find.
After a great break in the desert it was time for a road trip to Millicent. We jumped in convoy and made numerous stops along the way.
Stopping in for another visit we gathered the info required and then set off to make the find.
Thanks GeocachingSA for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to find.

Good fun collecting the numbers, not so much at GZ. Our coords had us a few metres from trees near the cemetery, but found nothing. No hint and no checksum gives us no confidence to spend time searching. Leaving frustrated...
Staying in Penola for a couple of days and decided this was the day for caching , all in the town were found most fairly quick but one or two took a few minutes searching Mrs Blingg found this one within a couple of minutes of arriving at GZ

Exploring around the Coonawarra area today, guided by the caches laid out around us .
Spent a long time gathering the numbers [|)], then it was off to GZ . Searched around extensively, but this one was too good for us today [B)]. Eventually had to give up, as we ran out of time and had an appointment elsewhere .
We'll keep watch on this one to see if others find it, then come back next time we're down this way again [8].
Thanks anyway GeoVenture2020.

OMG not sure if the cache is in the original position in the GZ. It seemed a bit too random.
Our second try at searching for this one and it was finally found after a combined search time of 1 hour from both the first and last search. There was definitely a scream of joy when we found this one
The Teddies and I searched for at least 30 minutes and found nothing. I think a hint would’ve been helpful for this cache
After the nearby CITO we found a few more cache before heading to a winery... as you do in the Coonawarra!
Found this after the winery visit, on way back to Millicent.

Today was another big day with the aim of finding 11 cache types in a day, but we weren't sure how we would go as the weather in Millicent was bad, cold, wet and windy! After meeting Doctor Owl in Millicent we set off on our day and thankfully didn't get too wet and by the time we reached Penola we had sunshine and blue skies. [^]
After a long day we achieved our goal and ended the day at the Carpenter Rocks Tavern for a lovely hot meal before going back to the accommodation to get warm and dry.
Another one found while in Penola.
Thanks for the cache GeoVenture2020.

It's now school holidays!! Woohoo!! 2 days ago me and my dad set off for the long weekend to attend the GeoVenture2020 mega event! We drove from Willunga and it took us about 5 and a half hours (including 30 caches on the way ) to reach Millicent. Yesterday was the day of the mega! I got my pathtags ready and my self ready to talk
This was my first mega. Today was the third day in Millicent. Me, my dad and James0116 set off to complete the trail A before going to Penola to attend 2 events. I spent 60 bucks at GeoStuff also, I got some geocoins! Thank you for maintaining and placing this cache!

Found at 15:11 during a fantastic extended weekend away with Shonkylogic and Southern Cross Caching. We had grand plans to complete swathes of powertrails and solved puzzles, but the weather slowed us down a bit. Even so, it was a lot of fun, and we passed my goal - to get my 9000th find
Friday, day 1, had us driving and caching from morning in Adelaide until the 6pm event in Millicent.
Day 2 focussed on the fishing series, wine bottle, and numerous other caches in that vicinity.
Day 3 was our slowest, due to the worse weather, but still a lot of fun.
Day four, after doing SFE series and nearby caches, plus those we passed, I arrived home at about 8pm, after finding my 9000th cache along the way.
Great to catch up with many of the usual faces, some others we hadn't seen for a long time, and a few new faces too.
Thanks for the hides

Found with Shandyk on our way to Penola caching and for the CITO. Signed log as GuSh.
Uni and Medusa, Southern Cross Caching, and I ... shonkylogic spent the October Long Weekend in 2021 attending the Easter 2020 Mega Event at Millicent.
Today it was pouring with rain for much of the time. We can cache in light drizzle, even light rain, but when it's bucketing down the fun stops and its not so pleasant. So the numbers today weren't as high as the other days, but we still managed to find 11 different cache types today. We started with a virtual, then a locationless, trad, multi, mystery, earth, letterbox, wherigo, and finally three events - the mega itself, the penola event and the CITO where we planted native vegetation.
We came well equipeed in the Pahero, with not one, not two but THREE TOTTs to help us. Even that wasn't sufficient for all the hides, sometimes you just don't have the right tool for the job.
We enjoyed meeting up with old friends, in these days of Covid is really is very special to be able to hold an event like this.
Thanks GeoVenture2020 for placing and maintaining the cache

The great Geoventure 2020 tour....take 2...which is of course now in 2021 Once again it myself and AnyMules doing things that not many sane people would attempt. [:o)]
Day 6: Another very busy day for us as we started caching in the rain doing the wine bottle series. It dried out a little as we finished and we made our way to Penola for lunch. We attended the event and continued caching around there including some labs until it was time to go to the CITO and do some tree planting. Trees planted it was time to go for a walk do get the caches in the park but once again the rains came. Not deterred we continued caching in the rain until we had finished the wine glass, the GPS had switched to night mode and we were soaked.
* If anything was particularly interesting then there will be a comment
Here.. We got caught in the rain getting to this one as we had walked via all the other caches from the CITO. Lucky for us Honeysucker came and gave us a lift back to the car.
otherwise we found all the caches we looked for and they were in good condition.
Only one of the three goals from last year achieved. So once again trying and fill my calendar with multi-caches and complete loop 11 again this year. [^] For my third goal I will try and get my DNF numbers from over fifty to single digits. That should keep me busy again this year! [:o)]
***Thanks GeoVenture2020 for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. ***

Another cache found just before stopping for tea
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Early in 2021 I received an invite from GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to join them on a caching trip to the Mega in South Australia. As planning got underway some caches with high Favorite points, very old caches, and the On Your Bike Series were listed as "must-dos"
The trip ended up being 10 days of solid and very enjoyable caching with quite a few highlights. The find count for the trip was around the 950 mark when all GCA, Adventure Lab, and GC caches are included. The high point for finds was a day of 335 finds in the one day, which would have been more, but a sudden storm put the end to caching for the day. No one was interested in getting out of the car to find a cache in a downpour in the dark
We were lucky enough to find Gawler Fort Knox, Dustin's Cache, and my favorite for the trip Barossa High (From 21st of January 2001 with the original log book still in place) all in the one day.
Unfortunately, the caching around the mega was beset by bad weather and the day we had put aside for Mount Gambier was scrapped due to a covid case in Mount Gambier on the previous day, so we avoided the area. We all enjoyed the Fishing series and just managed to get the remaining of these before the light failed for the day.
In the end I managed to completed my D/T grid for the first (and possibly the second time) which was my aim for the year, although some of the D/T combinations were not really achievable in Tasmania without a 3 day overnight bush walk.

Today was the day we left Renmark and headed South to Millicent so we could attend the Mega, along the way we collected some standout caches and the Wandering Heroes series.
Even with the numbers being down it was great to attend a Mega and at least get to meet some fellow cachers after so long and catch up with a few people, we flew over from Tassie on Thursday and after spending a few days in Adelaide we headed Northeast to clean up some series and then head South to Millicent for the start of the Mega long weekend.
This trip has changed so many times since it was first booked and I'm glad we got to do it at long last, to start with it was just myself and GooseandEgg nipping over for the Mega and then it was a few more days with the addition of 1 toolman, then with lockdown it was back to two of us but then another Tassie cacher in the shape of BudgieTas stepped up to the plate and we were back on for an over a week trip to grab a few caches before the Mega and then finish off with Millicent before flying home on the Tuesday.
Thanks for the cache.

We parked awkwardly but realized there was a better way to do this. I'm glad we moved as it took some time to find it.

Heading south from Remark to Millicent today to make it to the welcome event tonight, we again cherry picked from an extensive list of it would have taken a couple of days to get there.
The Millicent Mega trip had been a long time in the making, for the Tassie trio of stainless steel rat, budgietas and gooseandegg, due to a couple of false starts thanks to COVID19. More and more caches were added to the extensive list as planning was being finalized. We focused on old caches, large caches, certain D/Ts, virtual caches, the On your Bike series and a few other special ones on our journey. Our route saw us caching in Adelaide for a few days before heading north via Gawler to the Barossa in preparation for the On your Bike series, whilst basing ourselves at a gorgeous cottage in Waikerie. We continued on to Renmark for a night before the long trek south to Millicent.
Some of the many highlights along the way were Gawler Fort Knox, Dustin’s Cache, Barossa High and Riverland (the oldest surviving geocache in South Australia).
At the Mega we caught up with a few of our caching friends, made some new ones, and of course missed many who could not make it this time. The weather was not the best in Millicent, and a COVID19 situation in Mt Gambier altered our plans but we had plenty of caches to keep us busy between showers, including tree climbs, plenty of adventure labs, and the entertaining Finding a Fish series - giving the new pole a good workout for the first time.
Thanks to all the CO’s who have placed and maintained all these caches that made our adventure so memorable.

This cache was located as CPwanderer & Gizmo's Gang were on the way to the Millicent Mega.
I've completed a few cemetery caches now, even being in Penola quite a few times, I've not been out here.
A quick find & sign, thanks for bringing us out here GeoVenture2020

Found with CPwanderer and clare007 as we journey towards Millicent and the Geoventure.
The weather was kind to to us and we found all of our target caches which broke up the journey as did a stop for a picnic lunch.

An amazing multi, with plenty of history
Meandering up the Western Australia coast, the Northern Territory, and South Australia, we have finally arrived down south of SA.
Down the Highway and byways, tracks and trails, the geological, historical, the fun geocaches, traveling this great country through the eyes of a geocacher has lead us to some fantastic outlooks.
Thanks to all the COs for placing these Geocaches, it makes the Adventure more interesting.
We found your cache container, a nice quick find, and with signing duties done and dusted we replaced it as found.

Found after 3 attempts.
We enjoyed the idea of this cache, but found finding the clues had us spending maybe too much effort and time at the clue gathering area. Also the use of a camo micro on a multi was a bit odd. A hint or coordinate checker would also have been appropriate given the distance to go from the initial coords.

For what should have been a straightforard task, it took quite some time to collect the data with repeated scans of the commemorative walk. Once we had the final coordinates, we headed off to GZ. Very accurate coordinats and one of us looking from the right direction led to a find of a well constructed cache that blended very we,l into the environment. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks GeoVenture for a very good cache. It earns a favourite from us.
This weekend, I headed to the Limestone Coast / south-east for cave diving, but also to find a few geocaches when time allowed. It was only a quick weekend travelling to Mt Gambier via Bordertown on Friday, and returning Sunday via Millicent and Kingston. I was able to fit in a visit south to Port MacDonnell on Saturday, and a few other small detours around Mt Gambier.
This evening, I travelled from Adelaide to Mt Gambier. I had tried to find the miscellaneous geocaches along the main roads and highways, and added another 10-15 min on to my journey to drive via Bordertown and just passing close to Mundulla.
I had visited the posted coordinates back on 9/03/2020, and it took me ages to collect these numbers. I think I did about 10 loops of the brickwork studying names and gathering clues. I substituted the numbers in, and realised that GZ had me going off in the opposite direction to where I was heading, and so put it aside to find another day.
So today, with this one solved for 10 months, I stopped to make this find. Similarly to my posted coordinates visit, I was there for 20 minutes trying to find this one. I really didn't enjoy that this multi-cache didn't have a checksum for verification (although I was sure of my working at the time), nor does it have a hint. I initially searched for 10-15 min and thought I should check with someone before me that I was in the right spot, so I made a PAF to verify. They provided some information to what I needed to find, and so I darted around between trees looking for a camouflaged object. I was very close to giving up until I finally made the find. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks GeoVenture2020 committee for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.
I did enjoy the initial location and the extraction of numbers, but the hide location itself was probably too far out of the way for my liking.

In Penola today, took a little while to gather the info, had to do a couple of circuits. Final coordinates were very good. Quick find. TFTC
Found with earthlight and The X-Trailers, we spent a couple of hours walking & driving around town. Liz and I gathered the info which took awhile... walking back and forth.

We still had a few unfound caches around Penola and decided that a Sunday maybe a quieter time to find any caches near the centre of town.
We found most of the answers for this multi but had trouble with one but a PAF gave us the answer we needed so we were able to make a quick find here.
Many thanks for the hide GeoVenture2020...a fabourite point on it’s way

Missed a weekend in the South East earlier this year due to the dreaded plague.
Took a drive roughly in that direction this weekend with Sebastbat to make up for it a little.
We'll be back
We found your cache GeoVenture2020 thanks for putting it out here!
The two of us must have walked up and down pensively at least a dozen times to get all the info.
Like some sort of RSL vigil [8)]
We even got muggled by another cacher staying nearby ! ! !
But we got what we needed and proceeded along to a neat hide some distance away. The altitude of the hide was a pleasant surprise
Stay safe, sanitise, exercise, cache the regions at a distance ! ! !
Come visit the Barossa with your cache hides anytime [:o)]
So after some help from a friendly local cacher I had the missing number and my coordinates confirmed. I needed a multi for today and was down in the South East for the weekend so decided to head back to this one before an appointment in Naracoorte.
I thought it would be a quick find but had to PAF again. For future finders look low. Coords are spot on.
TFTC glad to get this one ticked off and found.

We spent ages trying to do this one. We also couldn’t find I so decided to head to GZ anyway and walk the line. Nada.
Again today tried again but still no joy at any of our potential 4 spots. Never mind the hound enjoyed himself.

we couldn't find this one: I = Redman E SXI7123 we looked and looked and looked (3 of us) for over an hour and couldn't locate this info. found the rest of it easily.
Finally on the road after Covid-19 lockdown. Moving today from Penola to Millicent but a few remaining unfound caches to tackle before moving on.
OMG this was the hardest cache in forever! We had no hope of locating I. We tried yesterday in the freezing and sunset but nope could not find him. Event tried to walk the line but no luck in the dark. Today we rewalked the walk and rechecked every letter incase it made more sense. Nope still no I......... OMG back to walk the line in daylight and thankfully Mrs Felix found the cache but not at the beginning of our search. [xx(] Not sure what went wrong here but something is not for the faint hearted.

Sir_spectre and I wanted one more trip down to the south east before the Mega arrived and this was a great opportunity to find some geocaching artwork as well as get some of the higher terrain that have been published. An event was a bonus we were not expecting to get to but the caching gods allowed us to get there.

solved last time with mogni we where this way but wasn't going in the right direction for the final. detoured today to get the find.
Back down to Mount Gambier with Mogni. She wanted to do mainteneance on some of her caches. Day 3 saw us slowly returning back to adelaide. After taking the coastal road down we took the inland road back. I think i finally have a almost ( less than 5 caches ) clear road from mount gambier to adelaide now. Any containers that needed maintenance were fixed and any log books that needed replacing or that where almost full where replaced with the mega coming. Also any small container had extra scroll placed in it for the coming mega in 4 weeks.

Found with Lowus on an afternoon/evening of cleaning up some caches.
Now I really liked this cache. Finding the information was fun but not too easy and the final location was a treat. Awesome camo. Well deserving of a rarely given Beaker fave point.

In the drizzle this morning,
I found the ideal spot to while away 15 minutes or so,
tracking down the answers to the questions
With the numbers crunched,
I headed back to a spot I had just come from to find this cache
Thanks for a fun multi-cache that's full of local history.

I had fun walking up and down looking for the correct names whilst also taking time to remember. After a short drive the cache was soon in hand. TDTC
Collected the info for this one on a very rainy day a month ago but didn't go for the final until now. Walked right up to it and spied it straight away, nice day today with no rain in sight. TFTC
Found It!
After a few laps of the path at WP1 I had found all the required numbers and headed off to GZ. I spotted the well camouflaged cache quite quickly there to. I guess sometimes you just get lucky.

Found at 4:21 PM GAFF1.
We were in a bit of a quandary not knowing where this walk was. We were standing around GZ and we were looking for the start of the walk thinking it was going to be a few kilometres long and that there was going to be a map on one of the sign posts showing us the walk.
Then looking down at our feet, we suddenly saw the plaques - D'oh! However this ain't a walk as we expected it to be and should raise the D rating by another 2 stars
So after a few rounds of "walking" up and down (so maybe this is a walk ) we worked out the co-ords and on our way back to camp (we were camped just a few hundred metres away) we went over to GZ and started to look in the usual spots, but nothing. We then had a thought and thank goodness to razor sharp co-ords we found the well camoed cache. Deserves an FP.

This was the last cache for the day as we ran out of time to get back to Adelaide, we walked around and collected the clues for the final. Although we weren’t sure if we were right so we trusted our gut and went for a drive. Searched around HZ and found something that wasn’t quite right. Awesome hide and gets a fav from me,
