Walked through the Shades a while ago. I used to be terrified of this place, years back. Then I spent enough time here to learn that the Shades isnt dangerous because of the darknessits dangerous because of what people do with it. People like that nice young man I caught trying to pick my pocket. He looked positively horrified when he realized who I was. We had a little chat, after which he decided hed be better off finding an honest line of work. (Somewhere far away, I hope.)
CaptainVimes and I have crossed the pond to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks. Not too many people around today. Not too much snow either. Thanks Sonya and Deane and happy caching
Day 6 in New Zealand First morning in Owaka so picking up a few around the region. First Mataura then Gore, Athol, Kingston, and now here. First time in the snow and I really wish I had my old sandboard here. Would have worked just as My first overseas trip ever started off eventful with my tree fishing pole joining me in Brisbane on a later flight after deciding not to travel with me initially, but all sorted and the trip has been stress free since checking out the stunning scenery and picking up caches of various sorts. Went caching with the Qld + 1 crew while in Dunedin but finished up and headed south with GCoven on my way to fly out back to Townsville Australia via Invercargill Thanks Sonya and Deane for placing this Virtual for me to convert into a smilie
Lovely day to visit up here today with the sun shining but still some snow to walk on. The coords tooko us to a spot with no sign post, but we figured that it must be the sign a short distance away. Photo is in FMZ's log. TYFTC
Supposed to be nasty weather up here today, but someone didn't get the memo... beautiful weather and lovely views. Found with Jgersmum. TFTC!!!
My first NZ geocache!! So happy to be here. Came for about 6 winters in a row and I havent been back since 2018. Now here I am. My quads are burning!!!I AM GUR
A beautiful spot to either start a day on the slopes or have a apre afterwards
A fun but challenging day on the slopes today! Loved having this cache to help commemorate this weekends adventures! TFTC
A great day 3 boarding on the slopes, this was my second trip here, the first time geocaching though! A great bluebird day with the boys, travelling from Western Australia, TFTC!
Did a drive up here today to see how much snow was here. They were skiing. Nice up here today.
Not many people up here today. The Gondola was closed so we didn't get up to the top. Good views from this level though. TFTC
Our visit to Coronet coincided with the Skoda South Island Schools Mountain Bike championships. The photo was the closest we could get to GZ as the "sounds" tent including the amps and the banks of speakers were just there. Very well might have been deafened had we got any closer. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip - lots of skiing memories recalled. Fav point on the strength of that.
We came up here on the perfect day. The mountain was full of teenagers from schools all over the South Island competing in the Skoda South Island Schools Mountain Biking Championships. It was an impressive sight and all around the building were gazabos for all the schools taking place. The teenagers went up the mountain using the chair lifts. Three walked forward, attached their bikes to the chair in front, and then sat on the chair behind. Great!Luckily we did not need to look for a container as today would have been the worst possible day. We took our photos and tried to keep out of everyone's way. A favourite point from us
Had to go up an see some of the skiing areas as well. Thanks for the cache./herrFamaxe from Sweden
We made the long drive up to the ski field, and soon found the required signpost and took our photo. The main activity up here today seemed to be mountain biking down from the top. TFTC
After twisting and turning up the mountainside I made it to GZ. Snapped the required photo. Lots of mountain bikers out.
Scouted out the signpost our first day, when we walked up to the Coronet. Walked up from the lodge this evening to take the photo!
Second day of our road trip. Got packed up early before doing a couple more caches in Queenstown before heading to Wanaka via Coronet Peak and Arrowtown.Thank you to all COs for placing for our enjoyment
Stopped here whilst we waited for the gondola to start operating. A beautiful day to be up here.
#7331Wandered past on our hike up the mountain, took our photos and went on our way. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache Sonya and Deane
#7331New Zealand 2024, day 5.... Queenstown. We were here to walk up the mountain for the new trad way up there, before we set off up we paused for the photo, lest we forget on the way down! Thanks for placing your virtual reward in a great spot.TFTC!!
13:21 FITW my MomThe main reason why I even discovered Coronet Peak, was the new cache at the summit. As I'm not a skier, I wasn't really aware of this place. After a scenic chairlift ride up and a gondola gander down, it was time to stop and log this one too!I'm really glad that geocaching took me here. I could have sat there all day and just watched the scenery and the bikes rolling down the tracks!Kia ora! Paldies! Thanks for the virtual, Sonya and Deane!#10115
We are prepared for ascent of Coronet. Yees. Thanks for the cache and greetings from the Czech Republic.
# #7,017 #----------Another day for more geocaching. My final day in Queenstown so I thought Id use it to explore Coronet Peak, Arrowtown and Cromwell. I came here to the peak first to get the virtual. At the time, an FTF was up for grabs at the top of the ski mountain but since I was lucky to get one the other day, I thought Id let someone else have it.Found the signpost and got my photo taken in front of it. All good here. TFTC!!! ----------> All geocaches are signed as mmmPIZZA or mPZ
Every other day of our week long stay has been blue skies and warm temps. A bit of a shame that is was such low cloud today. So much so that the fog was sort of blowing into the cafe...TFTC.
Day 3: QueenstownThe agenda for today for to fly down from Auckland to Queenstown, and cache around the area before heading off to the next stop. This is my second time in Queenstown, and this time, I wanted to visit (and revisit) some of the nicer places in the region, and pick up the new ALs that have sprung up. The weather was pretty good for the most parts, which was a welcome change from Auckland, so things went smoothly despite an early hiccup with the rental car at the airport.(End of the cut and paste bit)Heres the specific log for this cache: Second cache up on Coronet today. This was no issue at all, but it is nice to fulfil a bit of Pokmon nerding at the same time - as there is a mountain in the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum games of the same name. So, we went wild here. Thanks for the cache, appreciated the trip up here. TFTVC!
What a view! Arrived whilst closed down between winter and summer but can imagine this place would be buzzing normally! TFTC
Up for weekend. Staying almost at ski road turnoff so a drive up the hill was needed So in general area of the signpost. TftvThen on way to car it started to snow a bit
Our first visit to the snow today. Kids had a ball in the fresh snow. No skiing today. Well with the trip. TFTC
Today, the plan was drive up here for an issue OneNZ have seen on the site. In between my testing, I stopped by and took a terrible selfie (in my defence, I'm holding 3 phones, my GPS on this trip is what's taking the photo, and I was trying for it not to be obvious what I was doing - there's 200 people in front of me who might think i'm taking a photo of them instead)
Nice day up here, plenty of people skiing, I assume a lot of tourists as it's a Thursday afternoon. Once the cellular testing was finished, I was hoping to head home, but not to be... as I got in the car (it's nice when I get classed as a contractor and get good parking ) I was instead sent back to Dunedin. Looks like it'll be a late night for me.
TFTC Sonya and Deane, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 3 find(s) of 3 today, making this find #4282

One of our favourite places to ski so it was nice to combine my other favourite hobbies. Interesting to see how different this place looks in summer time.
Up the mountain on yet another beautiful blue sky day - it is just what the skiers dream of , but alas i didn't ski so i sat in the lovely lounge and read , - almost as good as skiing - and at lunchtime it was time to go and get the appropriate photo required for this virtual cache . It was also a good time to go to the trad cache here which was easily found but with a mushy log so i went back up , found my spare log and pill bottle and went back down and placed the pill bottle with the new dry log in the original container but the hiding technique does need some attention . . . . . . . . Then later in the afternoon i went up in the gondola after all i have a seniors free pass so i might as enjoy being a senior and it was very nice up there watching the skiers zoom around and when it was time to come back down my son decided to beat the gondola down by skiing , mostly off piste i must say , and he did beat us down !
It is really lovely up here on such a blue bird day as this was . thank you for this newer cache ot is most appreciated . . . . . . . . . .

Enjoyed a couple of days skiing on the mountain and during our lunch break took the selfie
Found 22/6/23. I was very glad to be in hiking boots with spikes instead of ski boots. TFTC
TFTC. What a fantastic place. No snow today but is expected tonight down to within 100m above Queenstown. So should look different tomorrow
Down in the South Island on a roadie from Northland, with Dodge 1923.... interesting history and wonderful views everywhere. Spent a few hours up here enjoying the views, riding the chair and watching fearless mountain bikers riding the tracks.....Thanks for the virtual
Day 5on our holiday in New Zealand. We visited the spot of this Virtual Cache. We made the requested photo, and added it to the log.
***T4T$ - Many thanks to Sonya, Deane and Alex for this Virtual Cache, and showing us this spot***. ️

Grabbed this one before heading up to the summit! Chilly and wet, but still spectacular views! Thanks for bringing us here and for the cache
I decided to go early to Queenstown, the worst town in the country for parking, traffic jams, people jay-walking, narrow roads. If it wasn't for some caches, I would never come here.
I was doing the AdLab here and this one got in the way so it would have been rude to not sign it off.
Cheers for the cache.

No snow today and the mountain bike trails look too steep for me. Great views of the Queenstown basin from here. TFTC
I used to work for Coronet Peak nearly 20 years ago… so today was a trip down memory lane… a lot has changed, and strange to see the area not in snow, TFTC!
No snow today. Hot Summer temperatures this week. Spectacular views from top! ️️
So like Cairngorm where we used to ski and so different from Serre Chevalier where we now live.
Wish we had a giant picnic area like this back home.

Visiting from Sydney. It was amateur hour at the carpark getting up here. Snow looks awesome. Thanks for the virtual.
In queenstown finally after the trip had to be postponed last year due to closed borders. So happy to be here and skiing coronet peak for the first time. Loved the scenery on the Sarah Sue run. Was a bit challenging for me but stopping many times allowed me to appreciate it more. Thanks for the virtual.i hope to be back again one day.
A spectacular afternoon drive up to the ski field. Sign located and photo taken. Sunny but only two degrees C! A favourite for your Virtual, thanks!
Tftc. Nice spot even in summer with no snow. Other phone we had died so no gps co-ords sorry
I am enjoying my first ever visit to Queenstown made so much easier with a rental car. Today's mission was a soak at the Onsen Hot Pools, it was a hard job but someone had to do it and I was thrilled to take one for the team (and to get a little bit longer in the pool, shame). After my soak I drove up here to check out the view and I was not disappointed although it is bizarre to see a ski field like this, I can only imagine what it's like in the winter - I bet it's a magical sight.
A lot of people had the same idea as me, but they left me to my business. I was initially confused by where I needed to be but then I spotted it. Again, I was kinda blown away by the size of this place.

A nice quick find thanks. A few people around today, but too warm for snow.
Ms_KR and I are on a wee South Island break. Today we cruised around Queeenstown. We live in an amazing country, and today was one out of the bag. Glorious, weatherwise and the mountains were just stunning.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Finally I've wrangled some time off work so it's off to Queenstown for a little rest & relaxation... and Geocaching! We were down here for 7 days and even managed to join forces with DavidsonClan on a couple of days. I didn't have a huge hit list - it was mainly just some of the PMGT's I was after - but I made time for many others as well
I nice little wander to this one. I watched the sun rise, creeping over the hill and then it was time to go - a very chilly morning - very happy it hasn't snowed yet.
Cheers Sonya and Deane & TFTC

Quite busy up the top with maintenance going on. Luckily Pengi managed to cling onto the post long enough for me to snap a photo. Brrr cold up here.
Not many people around today. The day was beautiful up here. Could have stayed for ages just taking in the view. Love it Love ️ it. Thanks for putting this out SD&A
Couldn't find a big chair but got the sign. Would love to see this in winter. TFTC
Very hard to believe that I'm essentially 2TF. Nice drive up this morning. Seemingly had the place to myself apart from the loud music playing. No problem finding the sign but I left without seeing the lift seat. Congratulations on being awarded this special icon and you have chosen well for your placement. TFTC # 17,977
Joint (FTF) #83 with indiboo. Saw this published yesterday but wasn’t able to get up here straight away. Nice day for a drive up. Couldn’t see the chair so the sign was used for the photo.
Thanks for the virtual cache, Sonya and Deane
