Day 7 in New Zealand Second morning in Owaka so picking up a few close by around the region. Virtual at a waterfall, dont mind if I do My first overseas trip ever started off eventful with my tree fishing pole joining me in Brisbane on a later flight after deciding not to travel with me initially, but all sorted and the trip has been stress free since checking out the stunning scenery and picking up caches of various sorts. Went caching with the Qld + 1 crew while in Dunedin but finished up and headed south with GCoven on my way to fly out back to Townsville Australia via Invercargill Thanks Natalie247 for placing this Virtual for me to convert into a smilie
A beautiful waterfall and a great place for a cache. I'm glad I came here, and I enjoyed doing the virtual while my sister did some photography. Doug also enjoyed his visit, he is very enthusiastic about geocaching now after the mega, meeting more cuddly geocaching pals and getting his very own trackable tag! Thanks for the cache!
CaptainVimes and I have crossed the pond to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks.Beautiful spot, not just the falls but the walk in.Thanks Natalie247 and happy caching
Sybil thought it would be romantic to take a walk near one of the waterfalls outside the city. Romantic. Yes, because nothing says romance like standing near a torrent of freezing water thats somehow managed to be both too loud and too wet at the same time.I mean, whats the point of a waterfall? Waterfalls are just rivers showing off. Look at me, I can fall dramatically over a cliff! Meanwhile, Im just trying to keep my boots from sinking into the mud while Sybil talks about how majestic it all is. If I wanted to be soaked to the skin, Id take a swim in the Ankh. At least that water has the decency to stay in one place. And the noisegood gods, the noise. You cant hear a damn thing over the roar, which is probably why people think theyre relaxing. It drowns out all thoughts, like a liquid lobotomy. A blessed silence from my own brain would be nice, except its replaced by the endless sound of crashing water, as if the universe is flushing a cosmic toilet. Its all just gravity showing off, really. Water, pulling a stunt, and for what? Its not like anyones watching out in the wilderness. The poor sods that have to live near these things must have gone mad ages ago.At least Sybil was happy. So thats something. But next time, Ill suggest we admire the city sewers insteadmuch quieter, less chance of catching pneumonia, and more my speed.
We are four ladies from Sweden who are visiting Australia and New Zeeland We are logged as TULP This was one of the caches we found Thanks from Sweden
Four Swedish ladies driving around in NZ looking for caches. We found this an evening , a very rainy evening. The waterfall was fantastic. Ursus67 send answer for all four.
It was a little bit dark and also of rain here this evening...D var det dags fr lite ventyr. Hlsningar frn Sverige, sdra Lappland Then it was time for a little adventure. The trip goes to Sydney in Australia and then on to Christchurch and Dunedin in New Zealand .On the trip are, Tigertassen, myself, ursus67, Lnganfans and Pidjas go, which means that we log under the common name "Tulp". The idea is that before we go home we should have visited a Megaevent, Geo Toroa. Greetings from Sweden, southern Lapland
We are four ladies from Sweden on visit in New Zealand. We log as TULP (tigertassen, ursus67, lnganfans and pidjas). Today we took the tour from Dunedin to Lands end in Bluff. A long journey but much to see. We came here quite late in the evening. Magic.A big thank you to CO for the cache.
A peaceful walk down to the roaring falls with Gazania Rigens, who sent our answers. We stayed a few minutes to soak in the sounds of water and forest before heading gently back up the gully.Beautiful.TFTC
It was early evening by the time we arrived at the falls which meant we had the place to ourselves. We enjoyed the beautiful walk and all the sounds of the forest. Very peaceful. FP and TFTC!
Found with NZDi on our southern adventure heading to the Dunedin Mega through The Catlins.TFTC Natalie247
Found with Kiwimykl, refer to his log for details. (Photo on his log).TFTC Natalie247
Thank you for bringing me back to this beautiful spot for this Virtual cache, Natalie247. I think my 1st visit was on a school trip - hard to believe it was >50 years ago ! Tempos fugit and all that A lovely day as I drove over these twisty roads & enjoyed this lovely drive. FP from me.
A waterfall just as you want them, great! Thanks for the cache./herrFamaxe from Sweden
**Log about this cache:**Very nice waterfalls**General log:**After years of planning and the canceling of trip due to the corona crisis, the time had finally come: ***"more than 5 weeks in New Zealand"**.* And how beautiful it was! Visited both the north and south islands, many tourist attractions have a cache nearby so I could do some as well. Lots of virtuals and earth caches too and traditionals. But also done a few multi caches here and there also even a mystery and wherigo cache. The trip to New Zealand was great and we saw a lot of nice places. The country has so many different types of landscapes. And the nice thing was that it is winter in the Netherlands but summer in New Zealand Too bad it takes so long to fly and that the flight is so expensive otherwise i can go here next year again. Now you can enjoy it, logging the caches is also part of it. I will try to email the answers for the earthcaches and virtual caches to the relevant co`s as soon as possible. But first log all caches and upload the photos .
Thoroughly enjoyed the walk to the falls which are worth visiting even without the virtual cache.
Heute konnte auch dieser Virtuelle gefunden und geloggt werden.Danke an den owner fr's herfhren und ausdenken.TFTCSchmerzbefreitAntworten sind an den owner raus
Nice place. At the moment less water. But the way is interesting as well. Tftc
15:34 FITW my MomMy second visit to these falls. Got to say, I think in COs pic, they are more impressive than both times I've been here. Today, especially - not much water flow at all. I think it hasn't rained much lately. That said, still a very beautiful place, no matter how little water comes down.Kia ora! Paldies! Thanks for the cache, Natalie247!#10144
Stunning falls here. Love the layers of rock and the ambience of the location. Fav point for bringing us here.
Day 5: The CatlinsOur journey today took us down to the Catlins for a whirlwind tour of all the sights we could squeeze into a day trip. Of course, there were geocaches to be had too, plus plenty of photos and sightseeing. Thankfully the weather held up for most parts today, so we could enjoy all the great scenery and the geocaches as well!(end of the cut and paste bit)And so, we made it to the Falls after a brief walk through the lovely rainforest. Very nice tiered falls here, I havent seen as nicely stepped one like this in a while. Photos were taken including the one required for this VC, so here they are! TFTVC!
Together with Travelser I'm going Down Under. We are driving around with a motorhome. After 7 weeks driving around through Australia we arrived the 2th November in New Zealand. For ten days we will cross the Northern Island and than for 2 weeks the Southern Island.During our trip we of course search for several caches. Most of them brought us to very nice spots, like this one.All the CO's, and in this case Natalie247, thanks for bringing us here and give our trip a special accent.
After traveling around Australia with Oopie for 7 weeks, we have now been traveling with the camper in New Zealand for 4 weeks. Along the way we will of course also visit various types of caches in beautiful places, including this one. Thanks CO for creating and laying this cache.
A trip out to the Catlins was the order of the day and this cache was the destination as we were chasing the monthly challenge for different types of caches. A nice wander through the bush today and we had the place to ourselves as well which made it really nice. TFTVC Natalie, a fav point from us.
We didn't have anything to write on at all but have included two photos of the two members of 1066 here at the Falls today. It was a truly impressive sight. This is a well visited place even in winter. We were one of 6 lots of visitors while we were there.
We travelled to the Catlins today with the main aim of visiting these falls, as we didn’t get to see them when down here a couple of years ago. Mrs nzk made her way down to the falls as it started raining, took the necessary photo and a few others, marked the altitude on the Garmin GPSr and headed back up the track. On stopping to get a view from higher up, she realised she hadn’t saved the altitude waypoint and couldn’t remember what it was, so returned to the base of the falls to redo it. As she headed back up the track for the second time she was doing some positive thinking about how good the exercise was for her!
Answer sent to CO, photo attached. Thanks for the virtual Natalie247, a fave from us.

A nice and quick virtual at the gorgeous spot of Purakanui Falls. We had a lot of water and the weather was nice. A pleasure to visit the falls.
A great little stop for some popular falls. I was on my way back out when I remembered I needed to measure elevation so had to run back down.
Didn't have any personal caching items, nor paper to write our caching names sorry. The elevation results were a bit conflicting between the two of us. Photo of my device's elevation can be sent in lieu. Ngā mihi, TFTC
Yay! TFTC! Beautiful spot! I came all the way from Vancouver BC Canada to find this cache Thanks for being part of the adventure!
We are on our long-awaited journey around the world in 99 days. Second try after canceling in 2020.
Our third stop after Los Angeles and Hawaii is New Zealand.
This time was of course used to find some geocaches here.
Today we visited the Catlins and while that time we were searching for the Virtual **Purakanui Falls (Catlins)**.
At the given coordinates the needed answers where found quickly and after sending them, ther is a new smile on our geocaching map!
At least we would like to take this opportunity to thank **Natalie247** for the interesting information and for creating this Virtual!

Thanks Natalie247 for placing a Virtual here at these Falls which are incredibly beautiful. Answer sent. Another favourite added.
spent 6 great weeks in New Zealand with my The start was a bit bumpy (Cyclone Gabrielle) but then it got better and better. We travelled to both islands and discovered a lot. We photographed and filmed many beautiful things, but most of it stayed in our hearts.
Almost everywhere we stopped, a cache was already waiting for us. Most of the caches are well maintained and easy to find.
With mostly very nice weather, we saw a lot of this impressive island. In many places, caches were waiting for us, which were sometimes easy and sometimes difficult to find. This cache was also included and was successfully signed
We puzzled a lot in advance and the tours were well prepared
So this box was also well found.
now I have another on my personal cache card.
many thanks to [^] **Natalie247** [^] for the effort and the cache and greetings from Germany

Today we visited these falls early in the morning. So we did have the falls to our self. Thanks for the cache. .
This was a quick stop off before we camped at the bay nearby. There wasn't much water in the falls today but it was still pretty. TFTC!
We were going to a campsite at Purukanui Bay but as we were in no rush to get there we detoured to have a look at these falls.
I’ve sent the answer on behalf of myself and kathwood2003. I hope that the photo is clear enough, I couldn’t get a decent enough shot where both my name and the falls were both in focus. Tftc!

It's been a while since we were last in NZ, but a visit to the Catlin's is always a must for us & Purakanui falls is usually one place we stop at as it's only a tiny walk to this gorgeous waterfall. It's been pretty dry down there lately & there wasn't so much water there this time, but still beautiful. Thanks for setting up this virtual & giving us even more reason for a revisit.
Visiting the falls with MrMagoo72 and his relatives. Not as much water as the last time I visited, but it's always such a beautiful region to visit. TFTC.
Found with MacBayMeri today. The waterfalls throughout the Catlins are so lovely and these ones are the poster falls of the area. TFTC.
Today we are driving from Dunedin to Fortrose. We stopped at the waterfall, it was our first time and we were blasted, we spent quite some time taking pictures and walking around, being alone at the falls. Thanks for the virtual!
We were out having a tour around the Catlins where we have been staying on holiday. Was a great stroll to the waterfall with lots of muggles about.
Nice place.Greetings from the Czech Republic and Thanks For This Cache.

A nice quick find. Always a lovely place to visit, but this may be the first time this century. Thanks for placing your cache.
Ms_KR and I are off on a wee drive to Invercargill and back. Today we made it to Invercargill under overcast skies most of the day
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Waterfall was flowing well had a wet finish to the day but nice walk and cool waterfall
I can understand why this is one of the most photographed falls in NZ. Thanks for taking me to the spot.
It was fairly quiet here today, so it was a lovely stroll to gz.
We had a little trouble getting the gps to lock in at the bottom but managed a reading at the upper platform.
Thanks for setting this up here

Exploring the area on our trip. A lot of rain in the past, made this an awesome waterfall.
Thanks for the virtual cache. The falls are beautiful and we imagine they would be even more amazing after rain. Answer has been sent to CO.
Visiting the Catlins area for the first time today so a wander to Purakanui Falls was high on our agenda. With several other people on the track and at the viewing area, we bided our time before taking the required photo. The falls were looking pretty, but one of the locals told us that there is often a lot more water going over. Thanks for bringing us here.
Exploring the Catlins in our motorhome, which incidently has a photo on the back taken in 2012. Lots more water flowing back then.
Love this waterfall, and geopup enjoyed the walk too. Now have 2 tone dog...white with black paws.

Out on a days sightseeing and seeing and geocaching with family (gdkja). I first came here on honeymoon 49 years ago. No platform then, just wandered over rocks in the rain. Lovely day today but posting old photo for fun. Todays photo sent to CO for verification. Tftc
Day one caching and seeing the sights of Otago and a bit of Southland with raylnz (big Sis from CH-Ch.) Brilliant day on the coast. Good to be out and about before our next self-imposed home detention. tftc
It must be more than 20 years since I last visited the falls. Back then you just had the smaller pull off that is opposite the trail head and you were lucky if you saw anyone else. I visited this place with my family when a kid. They didn't have the lookout at the top of the falls back then. Today the parking lot was relatively busy but not like pre Covid days when I parked briefly to do a park and grab.
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up at Nugget Point for a couple of days, exploring in & around the area … we went for a bit of a drive today to check out some waterfalls, secluded bays & historical sites … the Purakanui Falls were on our list of must visit places … photo attached … answers sent to CO … no cache to find, on-line log only … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #2,130 for us.
What an amazing place! We were here early after leaving Owaka and had the place to ourselves for almost 40 minutes while Mr Kiwi was busy taking ... a few ... (hundred) photos. As we left we met several people arriving and the car park was getting busier. Thanks for the cache.
Spending a couple of days exploring the Catlins, finding falls and enjoying the scenery. Thanks for placing a cache at this location.
(Answer sent to CO). Mr P and I had a nice walk out to the falls and managed to get a pic between the muggles coming and going. T4tc (Caching name is on the palm of my hand)
AliGle and I were doing a bit of a tour around the south of the South Island in a Jucy Camper over a few weeks. Day 6 was spent exploring the Catlins coastline, an area I've always enjoyed! Visited this waterfall on our journey and completed the virtual cache while here, with answer sent to CO. Photo attached. Thanks for the virtual cache!
Touring the SI with Vistra. visited this waterfall on our journey and completed the virtual cache while here, with answer sent to CO by Vistra on behalf of us both. Photo attached to this log. Thanks for the virtual cache!
Hevic and I had a weekend away in the Catlins. We visited Purakaunui Falls early on our way down to Papatowai, but we missed the cache entirely as we were too absorbed with the walk and the falls. So we went back and I headed back down. Took the attached pics and quickly headed back up, so we could move on to the lighthouse. Cheers!
What awesome falls. I am so glad we plucked up the courage and carried on all the way to the bottom. Thanks so much for placing the cache Natalie. Found with Piwaka54.
#20716. We enjoyed the short walk to the base of the falls, even though the track was bit mucky after the morning's rain. Troodles sent the answers and posted a photo on behalf of us both. TFTC.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ as we travel from Dunedin to Invercargill.
A nice walk down to the bottom of the falls, which were looking pretty good today. It was a popular spot today, though did wonder at the number of people wearing scuffs!
Great location for a virtual as it would be hard to place a traditional cache here. TFTC.

What a great spot, and the perfect place to stop and stretch legs on a very long road trip! A windy and showery day, so nice to find a sheltered walk (kids weren’t keen on Nugget Point earlier in the day!). Pretty falls, and hardly any muggles around. Tftc
What wonderful falls. Beautiful. My muggle friends and I are on a trip through the Catlins and this was one of our planned stops. Answer to question will be emailed shortly. Photo attached. Lovely spot for a virtual. Thanks!

A nice short stroll to the falls, coming back was a little bit harder though. I imagine it's a popular place in the summer to have a quick dip in the cold water as well!
Find number 9 for us today. Loved the walk in, and the falls are something pretty special. Nice spot, thanks for bringing us here and for all your caches we have found on this trip. +1 from me.
Day 7 of our South Island trip and today it’s all about the Catlins. Tomorrow will be too - but that will be a different story.
We started the day in Owaka and finished in Chaslands. In between we checked out Jack’s blowhole, the Purakaunui falls, Papatowai, Cathedral Caves and McLean falls amongst a few other minor stops. A fantastic day with excellent weather which really shows off this region. It’s fast becoming one of my favourite spots in the country and is nothing like I expected. Thanks all COs, 17 or so caches today as well.

23 October 2021 14:11 Beautiful little falls... my tshirt trackable is NZKDPY if you want to track me from the photo. Other qualifying answer sent to CO. TFTC Natalie247... just come from the virtual challenge cache!
Cache 719 it has been many years since I have been to these falls they haven’t changed still just as beautiful as ever T4TV will send other logging requirements when I get back to a reception spot
We had worked out a route through the Catlins, and after finding a geotour cache we had hoped to find a couple of others in the Purakanui Falls area. Unfortunately we came to a sign that said ‘No wide vehicles past this point’. As we’re driving a 2.5m wide motorhome and towing a small van on an A-frame, we weren’t willing to risk it, and didn’t have time to make the required detour today. Disappointing, but we hope to be back sometime in the future!
We did get to visit McLean Falls today which was pretty spectacular after all the rain of the last 24hrs, so we just had to imagine what this one would have been like.

We have visited this location many times and the carpark is always busy. Today was no exception. Enjoyable short walk into the falls on a n overcast day was ideal for photos. Many thanks for giving us another reason to come back. TFTC
We really enjoyed our visit here today. There wasn't much water coming over the falls. But it was a lovely place to visit. Cheers and TFTC
