Find #8,933 for me, on 21 Nov 2024 7:27pm. The weather was Overcast Clouds 20C 51% 3 m/s . Visiting the area with PamJ for a couple of days. This is our first find. Thanks LB for your contribution to the game. *Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*
Staying at Mt Gambier, we decided to take a trip to Millicent today. We called in at the lovely tourist information center, and I saw that this virtual was close by. These guys are truly heroes.
# 2541 - Greetings from Queensland. On our way to Adelaide after a CMCA motorhome rally at Mt. Gambier.Love virtuals when travelling. Always great historical or local information, although Ash Wednesday was a sad part of history. TFTC LiB
Heading back to Radelaide after a weekend in Mt Gambier. I couldnt drive past a virtual.LB, I found Ash Wednesday 1983 today. Thanks for placing this cache.
I noticed a joey on the side of the fireman, I like how they have carved it out of the wood. TFTVC
A solemn reminder of bushfires of the past and what's likely to be in the future. It's wonderful to see the heroic volunteer firefighters recognised in the memorial. TFTV LiB.
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA on a SA caching foray. Staying in Millicent for a few days to grab some finds placed for the ill fated Mega because of Covid. Thanks for the hide. LNCU
Travelling with richlink on our Annual Caravan Geocaching road trip, using geocaching as our guide. We are staying at Millicent for the week, finding some of the caches we should have found if we had not been prevented from attending the 2020 Mega by Covid19. Thanks for the cache. LNCU.
Out and about with TeamAstro enjoying some SA caches, great scenery and good weatherI witnessed the bushfires around Macedon and the total devastation and despair of those that lost their homes and loved ones. A good homage to those brave people who put their own lives on the line often for strangers. Thanks LB for contributing to this great game for myself and others to enjoy.
We drove over from Mt gambier today and made a quick stopover here to admire this artwork and pay tribute to those who serve in this capacity. Remember I was in hospital with my third child listening and watching the harrowing news stories. Tftc
Found at 10:51 AM GAFF1.We have heard many stories of the devastation that bush fires cause and heard first hand via a recording of the oncoming fire, the people saying their last words, the roar and then silence! Absolutely frightening! Certainly don't want to be in that situation and we thank the fire fighters for their bravery and dedication in protecting life and property. Thanks to LB
Little Miss Cache and I stop quickly of at Millicent for a play before heading back home. TFTC
Staying a couple of nights in town. On my way to Melbourne slowly. I am from NZ and remember these fires.
After over seven weeks on the road, I'm back home and finally catching up on all my logging.Caching in South Australia was fantastic, so many good hides to find, and we found ourselves zigzagging all over the place doing lots of geoart but of course ran out of time to get everything done on our to-do list. The majority of caches we found were in great condition and well maintained, which is a credit to all the CO's who placed them, so thank you.Our logs were mostly signed as 5 for QLD to save room on the log sheets, and no doubt, we'll be back again in the future
A February Mega brought us to Adelaide. Our group is traveling together and signing logs as 5 for QLD.A brief stop in Millicent for a few caches. Who in living memory could ever forget those fires!Visited on 13 March 2024. TFTV, LB
Road tripped from Queensland to Adelaide for theLeap Day Mega, caching all the way and trying to fulfil various challenges. This cache-which challenge/why? can't pass a virtual Meandering homewards after a busy time at Mega and doing the "On Your Bike" series in four frenetic days.Picking a few caches here and there along my route and decided to stop at this one. Nice memorial to the volunteers. TFTC
Catching up on caches found whilst returning from AdelaideMany thanx to the owners of the trads, multis, virtuals and earthcaches found on the way
Find 4794 on March 2, 2024Day#5 on Fergzters trip to the Great Leap Forward Event. Today we began at Kingston SE and are heading in the general direction of home in Ballarat. Thankfully I don't need to be there until tomorrow. Photo attached. TFTC LB
#19320 - 3:35:00 PM; Day five of "The Great Leap Forward" road trip and it is time to head for home after a successful mission to South Australia. The day started with an event, where I delivered feathertop, who had accompanied me from Kaniva a couple of days ago, into the custody of GemmaSistema for the trip home. After the event, I headed north into Salisbury and on to Tea Tree Gully collecting a couple of caches in each as I passed through, then I set sail for Tailem Bend and on to KingstonSE, Robe, Millicent and Mt Gambier collecting some more caches, including this one. I then crossed into Victoria collecting caches in Dartmoor, Heywood and Tyrendarra before heading on to Port Fairy for tea and Warnambool to spend the night. All up I added eight more LGAs to the collection today! Interesting spot with a couple of memorials here. Grabbed the required snap before heading around the corner for the local trig. Apologies for the largely generic logs TFTC LB
How very exciting the big trip has finally arrived! Down from Brisbane with a host of other geo friends with plans aplenty, enough to almost see us needing to extend or make a return visit. With a day up our sleeves and a desire to fill our LGA grid some of the team split away to go on a massive LGA run down to Mount Gambier and back. Id love to say it was a fully researched trip, but it ended up being a more spontaneously planned trip. Some areas we sought the favourites, others the cache type and sometimes just the well maintained and accessible. I particularly loved this day as this is a region I spent a lot of my Christmases and Easter visiting my grandparents, so the towns brought back fond memories.Thank you for your cache which has added to my wonderful caching holiday. All challenges will be checked for qualifying at a future time.
Continuing on with my South Australian caching tour and the mad collection of caches in the state. I am again part of the BOLD 7 team doing the mad assault on as many caches as we can. Today is going to be a mad long day as I am driving to Mt. Gamber and surrounds to chase some LGAs and some special caches. So glad to have finished off over the 300 of the Bike series, the ice cream cone art was fun, the anna tommy art was hot, the stayla challenges were cool. Now to move onto a different area of the state. OH the big Lobster is on the cards today. Love a Big Thing rings true today.First off today is the morning event. Was nice to see so many people turn up to the event. From there it was off on the drive.I am really loving the countryside of this state and the people are friendly while still watchful of you.We signed the caches as BOLD 7 and replaced them as we found them. Thanks for the hides and the great caches. Mum we will be late home.Nice to remember the events that change our lives.
BOLD7 having a fab time in Adelaide and surrounds. Lots of laughs and some brilliant inventive caches.!thanks to all the COs. Huge road trip day today. Really found these rural fire caches emotionally moving. Thanks for bringing me here
**Today:**On an epic roadtrip with DSD for the SA Leap Day mega! We woke up in Millicent this morning with a destination of Murray Bridge, via my first ever event in SA at Tailem Bend Motorsport Park, which is up there with the best venues I have attended an event in! The SFE Challenges near Millicent were the first target, before we cherry-picked our way via high DTs and county chasing! Thanks to all COs for an awesome day!**This Cache**I wasnt even close to being born when Ash Wednesday occurred, nor am I from an area nearby, so this is the first Ive properly heard about it! Ive definitely heard it mentioned but not much else. Sounds like a devastating day for those affected. Thanks for this memorial virtual cache!

6 months ago, during a frenzy, we said to ourselves "why not going to the mega in Adelaide for the leapday". From scratch we moved on to preparing an 18-day project in Australia. Our objectives are simple, visit a small part of this immense continent while validating a few caches. There are so many caches (impossible to do everything) that we will select. Our plan will allow us to visit Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Mount Gambier and finish in Adelaide for the famous Mega.During our stay we will log PestiHoot for Pestinette and Blackhoot. After a night AT Mount Gambier, WE take road. WE do some stop for some cache.WE meet other geocachers on the way to the mega. Thanks for cache and the discovery of beautiful or original spots
Muggle65 and l are on our way to the Leap Year Mega in Adelaide. Such a long drive but thankfully we have a few cache stops. And who doesn't love a virtual cache? Thank you for the break and the fun ??
Heading toward Adelaide for the Leap Year Mega to celebrate my first 4 years caching with commenced on a Leap Day event. It's great to pick up virtuals while travelling and we are so glad to see GeoHQ investing in having more in the community.
Find # 11195Well here it is, time for another MEGA, and an extra special one to. Its a leap year! So before the main event I decided Id head down to Millicent and surrounds to collect some geoart, and some of the all important (to me ) SFE challenges.Mentioned my plans to a few and lo and behold Weirdobiker was heading this way around to same time also so we decided to coordinate and teamed up for some caching adventures. A real mixed haul Id say, but any days caching is always good fun. Thanks LB for Ash Wednesday 1983
Ash Wednesday memory's of mount Macedon the sand storm and the nightly news are still vivid memory's for me even though I was only young. More recent, the black Saturday fires and others around Gippsland I've worked through..I take my hat off to the CFA members and also to the clubs of volunteers like the lions club that rally to feed and provide refreshments for the members.
Well after a whirl wind tour of Tasmania to help with 3 challenges that Im working on, I got back in last night packed the car and headed off to SA this morning to attend the Leap Year Mega and to also tick off some LGAs along the way as well.Well after crossing the border yesterday and staying at Millicent last night its now time for more LGAs and head to Wellington for my next stop.A nice park here and I checked out the memorials, a grave, a mural and the big blade as well.I still remember where I was when this all started as I was at work in Victoria the week before was the huge dust storm the the fires.Such devastation. The CFA and CFS volunteers tack it in their stride risking their own lives to help us.A great memorial that deserves a fav. Thanks LB TFTVC.
On a road trip from Melbourne to Adelaide. Our first visit to South Australia.Just arrived here for a couple of nights. Time for a few finds before dinner.I nice monument.TFTVC
I'm visiting friends here in Millicent, so I'm enjoying a walk around town.Tftc
Congratulations on your choice of Virtual cache when you won a virtual reward. We should never forget the loss of human life and devastation to the area when a bushfire of this magnitude occurs, or the bravery of those magnificent firemen who put their lives on the line to fight these raging infernos. It was certainly not fire season when I found this cache back in June last year, instead it was pouring rain. Thanks for this virtual that I have been rather tardy in logging.
After spending a week with my sister teamashy in Geelong, I headed to Robe on my journey to Adelaide caching and birdwatching along the way. Pulled up at this memorial for a break. Such a sad time, as have bushfires in recent years. A great nemorial. TFTC
Just beat the rain, heading home to Melbourne today but catching a few high value caches on the way.
Continuing my South Australian adventure, I came to this virtual. It is nice to see a memorial to this horrible day. I love the statue. Please see pic below. Thanks for bringing me here and TFTC.
Stopped at the Info centre and grabbed a happy snappy for this Virtual. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for me and others to enjoy. TFTC LB
Found in the dark with the geokids CC and SNG. We did this while we waited for some hot chips to cook up the road for dinner. Sadly our flash didn’t seem to help much and even turning the car lights and pointing it at the statue didn’t help much! He’s there, lurking over out shoulders!
Hoping this summer does not shape up to be as hot as forecast. Everything looks long and green at present.

Forty years ago. Shocking. Thanks for setting this. I did some local AdLabs too. Sobering stuff.

Nice town to visit and stayed for a little break while to do the one adlab here. Came here to respect the firefighters during the Ash Wednesday in 1983. Enjoyed this virtual and thanks LiB for bringing me here
There were thunderstorms and the wind was blowing vigorously when CybergranV and I visited.
A week away exploring the area with 2beez. A lovely carvingand nice spot to stop.

Stopped for a break and a smiley on our way through heading back home to Victoria.Remember these fires well as I live along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Lovely memorial here to commemorate the volunteers. Thanks for bringing me here.
I am sure that the community appreciated the dedication and service of the volunteers at a bleak time.
Wow very interesting about Ash Wednesday, what a sad to hear that.. last day today before ahead to Geelong tomorrow..

30,957. Found with minniek, albida33, Sol de lune, smittengranny (signing either as FAMSS or MAFSS to save room and just for fun). After the hordes around Rutherglen it was good to drop down to a group of 5.
Rutherglen Mega and South Australia Trip Day 10. Today was another great day for our little group - the last day the 5 of us will cache together for a while - caching around the Millicent region. We finished up chasing higher D/T caches, as well as some great forest drives and other caches along the way. Awesome. Unfortunately I remember this well.
Thanks LiB !! Fav Point.

Day 10 of our loop through Vic and SA then home.
Today fitzy_1965 and I again joined albida, Sol de lune & smittengranny. We signed as MAFSS to save room. Some of us may have rebelled and signed FAMSS instead.
We started the morning later than normal as we caught up with a couple of local cachers. Was great to share a cuppa with hevwalker and scramping! But all too soon we had to get going.
Our aim was to clear out as many caches between Millicent and Tantanoola. All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned.
I remember Ash Wednesday well and grateful for the firefighters help.

Southern Autumn adventure Day 11. Post Mega South East SA trip Day 5. Today was the last day with our team all together Fitzy_1965, Albida33, MinnieK, Sole de Lune & Smitten Granny and logs were signed as FAMSS or similar. We went to the south of Millicent to target some high D/T caches and some interesting clusters of caches on forests. After a wet few days, the weather was much better and we had a great time. We ended the day with a meal together in one of the Millicent Hotels and a cache just outside the door of the pub.
So many areas were affected by the 1981 & 1983 fires. It is a little haunting to recall those hot windy days when I lived in the Adelaide hills. It is good to see a memorial.
Thanks for the cache LíB

After the Rutherglen mega, fitzy_1965, albida33, minniek, Smittengranny and myself headed to the Mount Gambier / Millicent region to tackle some of the caches from the Millicent mega that we couldn't get to.
Now onto day 3 of our run around the area and we started the day with a trip to Tantanoola, finding caches along the way, in town and then around the forests and back roads.
Stopped to visit this memorial as we went past. I remember the day well and watching the news reports.
Thanks for the showcasing the area LiB...photo attached.

We all had this one on our list of "To do".
Day 3 of the 5 amigos caching in this area. A much more relaxed start to the day - it was agreed on 9 am as some of the group were catching up with a couple of local geobuddies.
Today we were targeting caches in Tantanoola so we gathered some high D/T caches and some that filled a calendar for some. This was one of the caches we found and our initials were added to the log. As "we" included minniek, Albida33, Fitzy_1965, Sol de Lune and myself Smittengranny logs were signed as MAFSS or FAMSS

Today on my epic LGA trip through VIC and SA I covered just over 1000km and around 15 LGA’s. In fading light I managed to grab the required photo. Such a sad piece of history, especially for a firefighter like me.

Touring Australia and New Zealand with my family. Which includes BeesKnees34, SOB_4M, AlexBN16 and 1MitchG6. We have been enjoying the beautiful landscape and visiting some awesome locations.
Stopping along the way to grab some cool caches. We targeted high favourite, old caches, different cache types and some other caches along our routes.
Thanks to all the cache owners for creating, placing and maintaining these great geocaches!
Nice quick virtual, that I got while the family was at the visitors center.

Both Papi4506 and I have been way too close to bushfires. Mine are not as severe as Ash Wednesday. I am forever indebted to those that put their lives on the live to keep our safe. Thank you to them. Thank you for placing the cache and showing us this memorial.
Thank you very much for bringing this year. I was involved with the massive fires that were back in Victoria so I have empathy for these people and what they do for us.
Last day of Chook's trip to Millicent with her fellow Vics: Papi4506, Geoturtle37, Team Crackers, micaparamedic, Roaming Howie and our honorary Vic GoodLook. What a fantastic time we have all had here this week.
After a morning chasing UNALs, it was time to head back to Millicent for some lunch. Then Chook left the group to attend to some unfinished business of caches and labs that the others had done before she joined them four days ago.
Chook remembers Ash Wednesday very well. She was out at Officer (Vic) on a horse farm when the smoke from the Beaconsfield fire came billowing over the hill. There was much rushing around to move the horses to safe dirt paddocks, but thankfully the fire didn't turn this way. Chook ended up with heat stroke but was ok. Many horsey friends lost stock that day. The loss of life was devastating. Ash Wednesday and other fire memorials mean a lot to us. Thank you LiB for placing your virtual cache at this location.

What a fitting memorial for our wonderful fire fighters.
We remember Ash Wednesday very well, we lived in Guys Hill Vic at the time and were right in the middle of the fire zone . Our house only survived the fire because a cement truck dumped a whole load of water and pushed the fire up the side of our weather board house, we couldn't believe it didn't burn, Unfortunately 12 firemen were killed when they were trapped at the end of our street, such a sad day.
Thanks for showing us this memorial and reminding us of the great work our firefighters do.

I was out and about for some post Mega wind down time. After heading to Dimboola for the event weekend I jumped on the end of a convoy to Millicent. Having setup over night it was off to explore today and collect some of the caches from the Mega we couldn’t make it to.
We toured the countryside and very overgrown grass to collect some of the powertrails. To save on log space these were logged as Team Vics (and a couple as VVR). The group included The_Tritonz, Team Crackers, Papi4506, GeoTurtle37, micaparamedic and myself.
All caches were found in good condition.

Such a worthy cause for a virtual & congratulations on receiving it. Australia relies so much on volunteers (particularly these ones at times) & they deserve so much more recognition. Thanks for highlighting the cause & TFTV!️0
This memorial is a sober reminder that fire fighters put their lives on the line during the big blazes. Such hard, dangerous work. I have read harrowing accounts of fire-fighting experiences that make me wonder how they do it.

Road trip! Joined ZQX, Fox in Jox and TikvaNZ in taking advantage of a long weekend in the ACT to head to Victoria and South Australia for 4 days. We had planned this trip 2 years ago, but it did not happen for obvious reasons, so now getting it underway. Our goal is to pick up some old caches, get counties and get some interesting DT combinations!
Today: day 2 travelling from Nhill to Millicent and Mount Gambier today with lots of interesting caches planned. Happy to finally get to this part of SA to collect long solved puzzles and qualified challenges!

Thanks LíB for the cache and the fun!

Many a trip to Millicent was planned, locked out or down. More recently a plan was hatched for 4 of us to attend but enroute our number dropped to 3 which meant so re shuffling and re prioritising.
We (PPE and Crash 2079) held our own event, Grumpy Over Millicent or better known in our vocabulary as GOM amongst other TLA’s of the same acronym. It was great to meet some of the locals.
Many an adventure was had with TOTTs of various types. The weather left a bit to be desired with fleeting bursts of sun but mostly wind, over cast and plenty of rain but we still managed to hoist poles and ladders and climb trees.
An early start before the event.
We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC.

GOMSs do Millicent - Day 2
After our plans to attend the Mega were cancelled by COVID, the stars finally aligned and saw bella at waggy, Purplepeopleater and myself jetting off early on a drizzly morning. With so many targets on our list, it will be interesting to see how many logs we manage to sign.
Up early to find somewhere to grab breakfast before our event. But as we were driving past we stopped to visit this memorial on our way. Amazing to think that dreadful day was nearly 40 years ago
Thanks for placing this interesting virtual
