Walked the summit track to Kozi and stopped in here along the way. Lovely day & enjoyed a nice sunset on the way back.
Today we had a great day on Mt. Kosciuszko. From Threbdo we took the chairlift up and then walked to the summit. On the way there was a Tradi to be found and on the summit another Tradi. The weather wasn't great at first. But we had dressed well for the 3 degrees. Before we went back to the Eagles Nest, we visited the virtual at Seamans Hut.Thanks for the caches !
Had such a fun day of hiking up to the high point of Australia and enjoying all the sights along he Main Range Track. Such beautiful views all along the way! It was a tad bit windy on the walk, as you can see from my hair in the picture. Thanks for the geocache! Answers have been sent!
Today LB and I climbed to the top of Australia! Well, we rode the chairlift up and then walked the rest of the way .We were blessed with clear skies, a slight, cool breeze and beautiful sunshine. The 360 view was truly amazing and the only white we seen, was the paper daisys on the side of the track. On a day like today its hard to imagine that everything can be covered in snow, ice and be freezing cold. Visiting Seamans Hut was a reminder of how these mountains can become so deadly. Now because we have been enjoying our sunny visit to the top of Oz we will miss the chairlift down! They stop operating at 4.30pm. So we can tell you that the 15min chairlift ride up, takes 2 hours to walk down!! Thank goodness the weather held out and for the full moon to light our way down. A truly memorable day and night.TFTV DARKSIDEDANKeep smiling
On a road trip to attend Capital Geobash Mega and see many different sights along the way. Today we were heading to Mt Kosciuszko to attend an event and cache with 2beez. We have been here before but that was pre caching. We really liked this spot. We didn't walk from Charlotte Pass, but made the detour out here to visit this one and so glad we did. A sad story but a great spot. We spent some time exploring here. Thanks DARKSIDEDAN for creating for us all to enjoy. See Crack n Lee Lee s answers, TFTC loved our detour whilst hiking to the summit. Tragic story but loved the hut. On our way to the mega in Canberra
Visited on our way up to the Summit from Charlottes Pass. This hut provides a nice respite break from the elements for day visitors, but more importantly, is possibly a life saving space for anyone on the mountain who runs into trouble. It was nice to see that it came into being after such a tragedy. We added to the supplies cupboard for the upcoming winter season. Thanks for the virtual here.
What a stunning part of the country this is, but also some very sad stories here too. I lived in some similarly remote and cold areas during my working life and was involved in a few searches and rescues in bad weather. Fortunately they all resulted in happy endings. Not everyone is so lucky. It would have been nice to press on further out into the mountains, but not today. Thanks DARKSIDEDAN for the Virtual cache. A favourite point from me.
Found while doing the stunning 22km Mt Kosciusko loop hike. The story of the men that died up here is so terribly sad. Thanks for bringing us to the spot and creating the cache. TFTC
Another glorious sunny day to do a bit of caching. Headed off from Charlottes Pass towards Seamans Hut. I got excited when I could see the hut , but still had a way to go.I stopped and crossed the Snowy River, I always thought it would be bigger than it was. Then headed up to the hut and went inside to get out of the wind and read the signs inside. Answers sent to CO.I used the hut as shelter from the wind while I ate my lunch. Great spot, only took me an hour and a half to get there. Thanks for this Virtual.
Our NEW ZEALAND - TASMANIA - AUSTRALIA JOURNEY takes us to beautiful places and provides us with an incredible number of wonderful moments and experiences.Occasionally we also visit a few GeoCaches along the way.The way back to the car from the highest point in Australia took us past this cosy little hut...??. Tragic what happened back then, the weather in the mountains is always unpredictable...??.Thank you for placing, maintaining and caring snapfish2 from Switzerland????PS: Translated with the Deepl app??
Four years ago, a Bromance team adventure to hike Australia's highest 10 peaks was cancelled after bushfires devastated the Snowy Mountains (and indeed most of the Eastern seaboard). It has taken us a long time to return - too long. With months of training and preparation completed, the time had finally come! Two days ago, we hiked in from Charlotte's Pass, crossing the Snowy River, visiting Blue Lake and then "bagging" the first four peaks of our Aussie bakers dozen of Australia's Highest mountains, being Mt Twynam, Tennyson Woods Knoll (Watson's Crag), Carruthers Peak and Mt Northcote. We camped on the exposed flat near Mueller's Pass, enjoying a glorious alpine sunset. It was a big day (some 22.0 kms with all the side tracks and caches collected with 1050 m ascent), but I never seem to sleep well on the first night on the trail. Our Queensland blood also felt the cold, but we were well prepared for this. With a very big day planned yesterday we started with a pre-dawn wake up call. We set off at first light from Mueller's Pass with our daypacks for a loop around the next 5 mountains on the list. SeffnJarah and I climbed Mueller's Peak (bagging peak no 5) for the sunrise, before joining up with the rest of the team at approach to Alice Rawson Peak (peak no 6). From there, we headed back along the ridge line to Mt Townsend (peak no 7), where we encountered some brilliant granite tors. After Mt Townsend, it was a short walk to Abbotts Peak (No and then onto Mt Dufour (No 9), before returning to our camp site at Mueller's Pass for a rest.Once the crew were all fed, watered and packed up, our full overnight packs were donned and we climbed up the main range ridge, dropping our heavy overnight packs at the track junction before climbing to the top of Australia and claiming peak number 10 on the list. The biggest one. Mt Kosciuszko. After the summit celebrations and photos and even an event to mark the occasion, we headed down the track to Rawson's Pass and Australia's Highest Toilet. After a rest here, we ventured up the hill behind the toilet to bag our 11th peak - the the unnamed peak on Etheridge Ridge. It was a pleasant walk down the steel boardwalk to the chairlift where we again ventured off track and climbed the hill to Aries Tor, our camp site for last night. Once set up there was still plenty of daylight, so we opted to squeeze in one final peak for the day - Rams Head North. The early start this morning was a highlight with a spectacular sunrise over Aries Tor. Camp was packed up in the early light and we headed up the valley to the ridge line west of Rams Head North. Here we dropped our packs and turned south continuing on to summit our 13th and final peak, Rams Head. With all peaks completed, we decided to finish the adventure properly by dropping down from the ridge line into the valley to check out Cootapatamba Hut. This descent started out all fine - the grass of the upper slopes was easy walking and going down on this hill with a heavy pack is better than up! But it soon deteriorated with knee high scunge, hidden water holes and no clear path. Seff was so excited to get the virtual there that he powered down the hill, excited to visit the hut. When my right foot disappeared into a hidden hole and the water within topped was over my knee , wetting my feet (again), I let out a few choice words about his enthusiasm. We spent a good while here, checking out and climbing all over the hut. Thereafter, it is was a steady climb back up the valley past Lake Cootapatamba to Rawson's Pass and onwards to Charlotte's Pass.Along the way, we stopped at Seaman's Hut - another of these treasured Australian alpine huts. Again clues were collected and photos taken. Answers have been sent to the CO. However it was a brief stop as a cold drink and the bakery treats of Jindabyne were calling... . This was a bucket list trip for me, and today was fantastic adventure in the highest of Aussie mountains - one that will live in my memory for a long time! An easy crooked favourite point. Thanks for bringing me here, DarksideDanPete#7,660
Just after Christmas in 2019 The Bromance were scheduled to complete a 3 day hike to visit the top 10 peaks in Kosciuszko National Park. At that stage I was already in Canberra visiting relatives and about to head off to Sydney to pick up my three compatriots from the airport when word came of the bush fires erupting in the Snowy Mountains. It was not long after that the dreaded news was announced that the park had been closed, ending any hopes of completing our walk. Dejectedly we made our way back home to Queensland. Thanks to Covid, border closures, injuries and operations it has taken another 4 years for the opportunity to arise to reprise our plans. After what has seemed an eternity, I finally left Brisbane Wednesday lunchtime for the long drive down to Canberra to rendezvous with the rest of my hiking group at the airport on Thursday. From there we drove to Cooma to stay overnight before heading off Friday morning to Charlotte Pass to commence our long awaited hike.**DAY 1**As 7 of us assembled in the car park I had to pinch myself to make sure we were actually finally here. The weather gods were smiling on us with sunny skies and low winds but the fly gods were perhaps too generous, with swarms of flies accompany our journey and settling on us as we hiked up to Blue Lake and then onwards to our first designated peak of the day - Mt Twynam. From here it was the summit of Tenison Woods Knoll, with a resupply of water gathered on the lower slopes. Retracing our steps we braced ourselves for the long, steep climb up to Mt Carruthers. It was quite a relief to make it to the top, knowing that the hardest climbing of the day was now done. Next was a climb up to Mount Northcote before a final hike to our overnight camp site at Muellers Pass.**DAY 2**Crookedpete and I headed up to Muellers Peak at sunrise before re-joining the rest of the group at the summit of Alice Rawson Peak for a well earned rest. It was then a quick procession (quick being a relative term rather than literal) to our next 3 next designated summits - Mt Townsend, Abbot Peak and Mount Du Faur before the long climb back up to our campsite to pack up tents and re-sling our heavy packs for the march toward Mt Kosciuszko.Joining the crowds on the summit, we finally celebrated reaching the highest point in Australia. There was no time to rest on our laurels, with three more peaks on our to-do list. We made the climb to the summit of Etheridge Ridge but sadly two of our team members had decided to head back to the cars at this point, with JezNDez sporting a matching pair of rolled ankles and had to hobble her way out. We next headed for the walk out along the steel walkway towards Rams Head. At this point the group split again, with three team members deciding to camp nearby rather than carry heavy packs up to the plateau. Conjecture on the existence of a possible (but ultimately non-existent) path mean Crookedpete and I were left with a rather unpleasant and energy sapping walk through bracken, rocks and hidden watercourses as we made the steep climb up to Airies Tor looking for a possible camp site. The perfect location was discovered, sheltered amount an outcrop of rock. With tents set up and daylight left to burn, the two of us headed off to our penultimate summit on Rams Head North and back to camp to cook dinner and tuck ourselves in to bed as low clouds rolled in and the sun set behind the distant ridge.**DAY 3**Up before sunrise to take Crookedpete's long awaited dawn photos at Airies Tor, we then struck camp and headed to our final peak on Rams Head. Rather than head directly to the summit we chose to drop packs at the northern end of the ridgeline which made a much less steep climb. Standing on this peak it was MISSION ACCOMPLISHED for Crookedpete and I!! All 13 peaks on our to-do list done and dusted. From there it was back to collect our packs at the drop point which proved a perfect jumping off point Cootapatamba Hut clearly visible in the valley directly below us. Well it was perfect from a distance perspective, but the shortest route possible took use through knee high bracken and hidden rocks and water courses. My determination to collect another virtual in Kosciuszko NP drove me ever forward and behind me I could hear all sorts of cursing coming from Crookedpete. Eventually we both made it to the hut to gather info and take a photo. Now we had to face the long uphill hike up the valley, with fully laden packs, to rejoin the walkway at Raswon Pass and onwards to our car at Charlotte Pass. Our route took us directly past Seamans Hut and I could now claim the full set of 4 Kosciuszko NP virtual caches (having previously found Valentine Hut and Mt Jagungal - both FTFs, ). Pretty chuffed as a Queenslander to be first to achieve this. Setting a cracking pace I managed to catch up with 3 other members of our group just before the car park, and enjoyed a well earned cold soft drink when we arrived back.TFTC
Abstaria and GEOJoh family reps checking out the sobering Seamans Hut location. Beautiful spot and great for waiting out the weather. TFTC DSD!
Probably the solidest structure I have seen in the mountains; it will still be here long after we are gone.Wet foggy day so only had glimpses of Kosciusko now and again. Lucky we did Blue Lake yesterday because this morning the river crossing was under water after very heavy rain last night.Answers sent to CO.
Decided a while back now that I wanted to summit Kosciuszko for the first time for our 3000th find. Convinced the in-laws to watch the kidlets for a couple nights and off we went.Camped last night at Thredbo Diggings campground, up early and started our hike from Charlottes Pass. Wind was crazy all day.. however it was a nice 20 oppose to 36 back home. Still quite a lot of snow around and we had a couple small crossings, didn't do the full loop this time will attempt that another time. Lots of people about particularly after Rawsons Pass, we took our time and completed in around 8 hours. Stopped here at Seamans hut for a break from the relentless wind. Everyone had the same idea and the hut was well and truely at capacity. Gathered the required info, a sad story. Answers sent.Awesome place, TFTC!
Something special or unusual goes here:Not being able to take the chair lift to the metal boardwalk meant we hiked in via the Seaman's Hut. [^] There was a school group there just before us so we waited to go and obtain the information required. This has been sent to the CO. A wonderful warm place out of the wind for a few minutes. Loved visiting this location - FP from me.The Generic Bit:Both Bri and Sal are on the road for a holiday. [^] Holiday - Not a caching trip. This means if we are stopping for a rest, lunch, dinner or to see something whilst on holiday and there just happens to be a cache nearby then maybe Bri can go and try to find it. Maybe. Day8 : Thredbo - usually mean skiing in winter but spring and summer means either Mountain Biking or walking. We are into walking. And of course the walk for everyone is the walk to Mt. Kosciuszko. Today was the day we planned to do it and we had perfect weather for it. Weather fine and clear with temperatures in the teens.[^] Only problem was the chairlift / boardwalk short walk was out of service for a month. So is was the hours' drive to Charlotte Pass and the 9 km walk each way to attempt this Bucket List adventure.**SAs Leap Year Event GCA1DNA - keep the date free - 29th February 2024. - BOING*****Thanks DARKSIDEDAN for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. *** Logs prepared and published through GSAK.
With lots of enthusiasm we headed to the highest point on the Australian mainland. After recent, early dumps of snow it made for an interesting trip with large areas of snow having turned to slippery ice.
From inside the car the weather looked great, however, outside it was windy and had a really cold bie to it. For the full story see StarsAlign's log. Although we found the cache container we could not retrieve it as it was frozen in place. TFTC

With the snow ️ storm and ️ huge snow dumps earlier in the week there was plenty of snow to enjoy. However, with the warm daytime ️ temperatures, and sub-zero temperatures by night the snow trails have mostly turned to treacherous ice

A big day out. This was day number two of walking in the snowy area.
The weather was perfect, showing some autumn colours in the leaves and blue skies above us.
We made our way up to the top of Mount Kosciuszko, and then to Seaman’s Hut and Etheridge Ridge, before leaving Rawsons Pass for Lake Cootapatamba and Cootapatamba Hut.
Visiting the two huts were a highlight of the day. Both totally different, and serving different history and purpose, but also the same purpose when it comes to saving lives.
We were amazed at the beautiful stonework here at GZ with the hut, the fire wood supply, and the beautiful pot belly stove. Can you imagine the joy of arriving here, if you were really in trouble in the deep winter.
The story behind the building of this heart is also somewhat sad and poignant.
We enjoyed our visit here, but also reflected on those who have lost family here in this brutal and beautiful terrain.
Thanks Darksidedan. A definite FP.

After parking at Thredbo we set off to the summit after taking the chairlift. We made the walk up to the summit and back down with a detour to seaman’s hut. 15km walked in just under 3 hours walking. What a amazing place. All the caches searched for were easily found
Day 5 of Courtneyrose_ and I’s trip from Adelaide to Sydney. Today we made our way from Corryong to Cooma via the snowy mountains, we set out to Summit the highest peak in Australia mount Kosciusko and find a few others along the way.

This was an amazing day to be on Mt Kosciuszko. The wind and the fog made it feel very alpine even in February.
After climbing the summit I detoured here for a walk to the Hut.
It was so lovely inside out of the wind so I sat for a while and enjoyed my lunch.

Walking up the Mt with RobMc and Swampgecko.
After hitting the top and we said "c ya later" to Swampgecko and just Robmc and myself went to Seaman's Hut.
Looking from the top it was only a "short walk" around the corner to the hut... but while going down was OK after visiting the hut going back up was the new killer.
Thankfully we had a good rest and some lunch at the hut while gathering the info on the cache.

After attending the nearby Jindabyne events held by Geocaching NSW, There was chats about the weather going bad on the original mountain climb day on the Sunday. So I decided to get this one a day early on the Saturday instead. I'm glad I did as the weather came in and got all foggy and windy on the Sunday, Witch wouldn't have been much of an exciting view!
So I parked the car at Charlottes Pass and rode the bike in, I got to the bottom of the snowy river bridge and that was about me done. Pretty much pushed the bike the rest of the way!!
Got to the hut to have a drink and take a break until the group of school kids caught up to me and took away the peace and quiet. So it was time to move on.
Thanks for the location dan, Answers submitted and photo to follow. And a favourite point for the awesome adventure!

OCW EverestHigh (who sent our answers on my behalf) and other cachers on the GCNSW Jindy Expedition weekend. Worth an FP for the great safety hut and majestic surroundings. I love hiking in the snowy mountains, and having a virtual to find makes the trip all the better. TFTC DARKSIDEDAN!
When I made plans to ride up here, I didn't even plan for the geocaches, I just knew I'd be riding. This was a great place to stop on the ride before the final bit to the parking spot and the walk to the top of Australia. Windy and fresh, I was still able to "represent" in my GCNSW shirt. Thanks to the GCNSW committee for organising the expedition.
The Saturday was a nicer day than the forecast for Sunday so FUF009, Swampgecko and I decided to do the walk to Mt Kosciuszko from the top of the chair lift. It was a windy walk up, but otherwise lovely weather. A very flash path and well used today.
FUF009 wanted to do this virtual so we did the downhill walk to the Hut.
We had lunch here, then tromped back up.
Great spot, would love to see it in winter.
Thanks, Robmc.

Day two of the Geocaching NSW Kosciuszko Expedition 2023.
With the winds picking up on Sunday, we decided today would be the day to go to Australia's highest "mountain". Starting at Charlotte's Pass on a rented e-bike I didn't break any sweat in the half hour it took us to reach the hut. OCW ZiggiAU and AUBeasty.

I hadn’t originally planned on getting to this one today but I was only a few km away and had a bit of time so I thought I’d give it a shot! Turns out you can get up to here and back to the chairlift in 2:15, not bad for old tired legs. I remember this sad incident well. Thanks for the trip!

Funny finding Seamans Hut nowhere near the ocean! OCW a whole bunch of geocachers on the GCNSW Jindy Expedition weekend. Great to have these Huts in the mountains especially for safety purposes. Worth a Favourite Point. TFTC DARKSIDEDAN
As per our Write note log buried below 27/01/20, we just missed the publication of this Virtual by a matter of weeks. Today, eldest novo geokid passed by Seamans Hut whilst on a school field trip for geography class. They set off from Charlotte Pass along the Summit Walk to the Kos summit and back. Required photo attached and answers sent. "The weather was a cool but sunny day today with moderate winds and there is still some snow clumps scattered across the peaks. They are busy building wheelchair ramp access on the Kosciuszko summit where we had lunch. Access at the top was limited as compared to when we were here in 2019".
We are keen to get back here as a family soon to conquer Mt Townsend and thus do the full Main Range loop via Caruthers and Blue Lake from Charlotte Pass. That'll likely be next year though, we'll see. One of the best walks you will find anywhere in Australia! TFTC, DARKSIDEDAN.

A work trip to Thredbo was all the incentive I needed to make the summit of Mt Kosciusko again and of course pick you this virtual. A great day on the range with clear sunny skies but not too hot or windy. Certainly some tragedy around this location but let’s hope the hut can save many. Logged with permission

TFTC. Hike to the summit was harder than I expected (or I was less fit than I anticipated haha)! So this was a lovely spot to stop today on the way up where NPWS was kindly digging a track in the snow to the top.
Enjoyed a multiday hike on the Alpine Trail over the New Years weekend. Love Kosciuszko. So picturesque. Waded through icy water and snow fields to get to the top of Mt K and then to Seaman's Hut to find the plaque and complete this challenge.
On an adventure to the top of Australia with some friends ... a couple of which had hiked to Mt Twynam yesterday as well. So it was just T4mmmy and I to take the side trip from the Dunny down here and back up. Such a loely hut, and amazing views - albeit a couple of sad stories commemorated inside. Thankyou for giving me a reason to wander down here which I've never seen before.

We had the most perfect weather for our hike to Mt Kosciusko and Seaman’s Hut today. Clear skies, bright sunshine and no wind. There were lots of walkers enjoying the sights along the walking tracks and hundreds of mountain bike riders competing in school competitions on the bike tracks below.

Visited this hut twice today, first in superb weather and on the way back down in driving hail. At that time the hut was pretty crowded. A stunning hut. Answers sent.
Visited this hut on what started out as a beautiful day, which soon turned nasty (as mountains weather is wont to do)
Such a great structure despite the sadness surrounding its construction.
Turned out to be of use for many who were not prepared for today's weather change, thankfully Team Webguy and I were able to battle in despite the wind, rain and hail.

We decided to give mounting biking up to Rawson's Pass a go before the final much shorter walk to the top of Mt Kosciuszko and stopped here for a number of reasons including my need to breathe. I have to say it was definitely a time saver even with the sections where I had to push my bike. And the ride down again!

Found in the dusk on the way back down to Charlotte Pass after an epic 30 km walk along the Main Range track via Mt Townsend. Luckily awesome weather although quite cold - car said it was -2'C when we got back at 7pm.
Answers sent to CO; pic outside the hut attached.
Great and poignant cache - thanks, Dan.

I still remember the tragic story of the snowboarders lost for months on Etheridge. It’s been a few decades since my last winter visit, so amazing to be here in summer, but also to witness the Easter hoardes! The planets aligned and the perfect weather lured daughter and I to head out for a few magic days and nights. Some geocaching was a must do bonus. TFTC
enjoyed the walk from Charlottes Pass to My Kosciuszko and completed the virtual cache at Seaman's hut on the way. What a tragedy. Walked with 8 others - some turned around at Seaman's hut , one at Rawson's Pass the 3 of us to the top. The weather was a cool week at KNP but that made the walking all that more enjoyable. Regrettably, the new toilet block is yet to be finished.
Today me and Nighthawk238 decided to do some caching in the snowy mountains, with our goal being to start at Charlottes Pass, walk to rawsons pass, earth cache at Lake Cootapatamba, then collect caches on rams head, the mutli at the top of Mount Kosciusko, the cache on Mount Townsend (possibly the earth cache as well but I'm no geologist) and then back to Charlottes Pass via the main range. There was a Ultra Marathon today on the mountain, 25km (one loop) and 50km (2 loops) and we thought that the 600 runners had Rocks in their heads. Turns out our quest to find all those caches meant we also had rocks in our heads, mainly real heavy ones. Turns out our loop and subsequent detours ended in a brutal 38km hike, starting at 8.45am and returning back to the car at 8.30pm. The apprentice cacher Nighthawk238 struggled to maintain his sanity throughout the day and getting back to the car was something both of us were looking foreword too but it was something to remember with a spectacular day and views to die for.
The virtual Cache at Seamans Hut was the first and having been there many times before I had most clues quickly deciphered. TFTC

After celebrating The Rats' 20,000th find on Mt Townsend and then tackling Mt Kosciuszko, we zipped back down the hill on our bikes with just enough time for me to stop and tackle this one. TFTC!
As part of my 20000th find celebration weekend, I teamed up with steeba, Hoojar and Wilbert to find a bag full of caches in the Snowy Mountains and Canberra region.
I love these alpine huts and have been fortunate to stay at some. If the walls here could talk I'm sure a tale would be told.
Thanks for the cache.

This cache: What a great idea to put a virtual up here close to the top and at an interesting spot.
A FAVpoint for the nice location and the grand day out we have had thanks to you!
PS answers were threatend to be read to CO who was passing by the hut just when I came back out
The hike:
DSD called to THE mointain (witht the CITO) and lots of people came. A great day out! What a nice hike/ride here today with perfect weather and all the familar faces. A big 26k effort from us (with some side trips, most of it on the bike) What a great feeling to suddently be at the highest point in Australia and to collect so many high altitude caches up here today. Big thank you to DSD for initiating this and for the cache owners up here (mainly day1976) for putting so many caches out in the area. I spend a few hours afterward to collect more caches in the area on the way home.
Thank you DARKSIDEDAN for putting this one up here!

Several different groups of cachers formed up at Charlotte's pass with hundreds of other people to start the trek to the top. The riders were off and I was in a group of six walkers including Isopeda, Joolay, SpecimenX, Fitzy_1965 & MinnieK. We made a steady pace and took about 3hrs to get to the top with plenty of breaks and a few caches along the way. We met up with Aquilus1 & GreyHams for part of the walk. The aim was the top for a CITO and all the cachers were only a small part of the huge crowd at the top. A great day and then we were off back to the bottom.
The details for the cache were collected and after a rest we headed onwards. A great hut, despite the bad reason it is here. I hope it has helped many others since. e-mail sent.

Tankengine and I headed up to the Canberra Invasion happening today on top of Mt Kosciuszko. We used our ebikes to ride up to the Highest Dunny then walked the 2kms from there up to the summit. The bikes made it a quick easy ride up and DOWN. A little scary for my first downhill ride, but a little fun too. The walk was not steep and it was an amazing view from the top. We were lucky to have amazing weather and we would have loved to stay longer. I can't wait to come back again another time.
This cache: It was a great ride to this point. And what amazing history to have here. It's a perfect place for a virtual cache. And it was nice joining ZQX, Fox In Jox, TikvaNZ and AngelG27 for a chat, photos and ebike discussions. Tftf DARKSIDEDAN!!!

Absolutely TOP idea for a Virtual cache! I cannot believe such an incredible landmark on this very popular walk didn't have a cache before this one! What a very deserving location for a virtual, one of the best uses I have seen of a virtual so far considering physical caches aren't overly viable in National Parks.
Really enjoyed exploring this hut, and answering the question which was quite an interesting piece of history I wouldn't have learnt otherwise. A great little stop as well to catch your breath.
Answers sent to CO and photo uploaded to this log. A favourite point from me!
Thanks

**Today:**
DARKSIDEDAN really has some great community initiative, and provides us with many opportunities to push people out of their comfort zone, set new personal challenges, and visit parts of Australia they may not otherwise! He decided to host a CITO event on top of Mount Kosciuszko, and the turn out to such an event in such a location was really impressive! I know I wouldn't have visited this location without his initiative!
What a great day it was too! Myself and Sui left at 6am from Canberra, with the Ute Tray packed with bikes and our backpacks plenty of food and water. We didn't run out of it either and ended up with plenty left over which was great as that is always one of my big worrys!
We started off a bit bumpy with meeting places etc, but it all turned out to be ok in the end and we headed up the track from Charlottes Pass. We only managed to ride the bikes for the first 3km, before it became a little too steep for us non-powered and non-regular bike riders. So had to push them up for the next 4km!
After climbing Kosciuszko, and then detouring for several kilometres to boost our finds over 2000m, we headed back down to the car. That 4km of bike pushing was BY FAR worth it when we absolutely sped down the mountain, cleaning up all 7km of track in only about 15 minutes excluding the quick stop at Seamans Hut! It was also absolutely exhilarating and the best fun I had all day! I want to come back just to do that again!
Thanks to DSD for hosting the CITO, and for all the cache owners including day1976 for the incredible work of gaining permission to hide physical caches up here, without him today would have also not been possible! Well done to all attendees as well, with no accidents or problems it was a great day out!

Visited Seamans Hut when doing the Main Range walk today. A place with a long history, and such an important hut to be conserved for future generations and users of the KNP in general. Thanks DSD for highlighting this place.
Bloody windy but worth it found on the way to the local CITO this morning. TFTVC DSD.
Me and moom3 made the walk to seamans hut and gathered the required info before exploring the hut, thank you for the virtual!
Found with Mrwhiskers76. We made a weekend out of it as we aren’t local to the area. We trekked it from Darkes Forest to Island Bend Campground on Saturday. Had a few issues with the car over heating but sorted that out with duct tape... Up the ski lift we went and walked all the way to the top. Definitely worth the effort involved with the walk and camping as the view is spectacular. Now to walk to the hut. Upon arrival there weren’t too many muggles. A quick sign of the visitors book and a snap we were on our way back to the ski lift.
Thank you for a brilliant virtual cache.

A perfect day to be in the mountains. The CITO was too good to ignore. Team FATZ rode from Charlotte Pass to the dunnies, but stopped by this location to collect the required info.

Out on a caching mission with TikvaNZ, Fox in Jox, SpecimenX and ZQX to get some altitude this weekend! Very excited to walk up Mount Kosciusko- my first time, and excited to get out for my first overnight caching mission in a year. But of course there are plenty of interesting caches to get along the way, and a couple of events to drop in to! Just need to keep cool while we do it, with the first really hot weather forecast this weekend.
This cache: happy to pedal my e-bike up the hill to this hut. First time here, and glad to see a resource available for an emergency, and in good condition. Answers sent to CO and photo attached. Fav point comin at ya!
Thanks DARKSIDEDAN for the cache and the fun!

Out and about with Team FATZS (Fox in Jox, AngelG27, TikvaNZ, ZQX and SpecimenX) for a trip to Jindy and Mt K.
Last time I visited this spot was on the last leg of an 800km 5-day race. As a team of 4, we were all falling asleep walking from CP to MtK then down to Thredbo. The Hut gave us a great 20min sleep stop. Very thankful.
TFTC DSD. A fave.

Headed to Jindabyne for a weekend away with fitzy_1965. Our aim was to attend the CITO on top of My Koscuisko today.
We were accompanied by Joolay, isopeda, albida33, SpecimenX for the trek to the top, as well as, Aquilus1 & GreyHams for part of the way, but with many other Canberra cachers getting their by other means.
Getting to the Hut meant we were just over half way! Certainly amazing views up here.
Thanks for bringing us here DSD.

Off we go for an over night geomission to Cooma, Jindabyne and a Mt. K climb. Top weekend of quality caching and socialising. I was part of team FATZS (Fox in Jox, AngelG27, TikvaNZ, ZQX, and me, specimenX) on signed logs to save space.
Up we go on our Mt. K geomission! Whilst Team FATZ went up on their bikes, I joined Joolay, isopeda, minnieK, fitzy_1965 and albida for the hike up. We set off from CP and made the hike along the Summit track, and so did hundreds of other people!. Absolutely amazing scenery around this immense place!
Great to have this hut here for emergency use and it was interesting checking it out inside and learning about the tragedies that occurred near here. It was blowing a gale when I took my photo but thankfully it was lovely and cool! Answers sent to CO.

Trip log:
We had a plan, and it was to go to Kosciusko for an oldie and some high altitude caches, it was also to be my first visit, so I was keen. When GreyHams noticed an event was published up there this weekend the decision was made and after a lot of discussion over previous years the time had finally come to tick this one off...
Or so it should have been but my sprained ankle several days before we were to go, it was touch and go and I wasn't sure I could make the distance, but only one way to find out, with some contingency plans should they be needed.
With GreyHams it was an early start, and of course there were other Canberra cachers heading south for the weekend also, so we teamed up for a number in the morning with the newly formed 'Jindy Crew'. After a spot of Cooma caching it was out to 'The Gates' on Lake Eucumbene, a trek but a great way to pass the hot day in the cars aircon, and then the 'track' out to the cache, challenging and equally as amusing, it was a great drive in! A little caching around Buckenderra was nice scenery before meeting up with dty73 and Tankengine in Jindabyne for some more caching an event and a relaxed yummy dinner with our Canberra caching friends for the evening.
Arriving at Charlottes Pass early in the morning is the thing to do, and with so many others already there it was a busy carpark, needing to park about 1km down the road! After our warm up walk and lashings of sunscreen we started off, slow and steady and hoping the foot would make the distance. And it did! The prep was sound, the poles were my lifeline step after step and finally I got to attempt the summit.
Such a great walk, so much to see, yes, it looks all bare and rocky but its beautiful and the slow pace we set we saw all of it! So great with many other cachers up there to spend time with them too, and we spent much time walking along with them over the distance, so much conversation had the time pass quickly and enjoyably. Many thanks to GreyHams, it wasn't the main range loop walk we had planned but he got me to the summit and back! As broken as I was with that last limp to the car we still had the enthusiasm to plan the next trip.
Many thanks to the CO's for your caches, we only stopped at a few for various qualities but your cache led to a very enjoyable trip.

Big day today! First rode my bike from Charlottes pass to Rawson pass, walked up Mt Kosciuzko for some great pics, then down and towards Thredbo. After a few hundred meters left the track and went off track up Ramshead north and then finished on Ramshead. Oh and then back up Mt Kosciuzko again for a CITO!
Drove bike back to Charlottes Pass and a 5 hrs drive home.

What a great day planned today. Good company, fantastic scenery and a huge walk. It was all going fantastically until the walk UP to Seamans Hut. But worth it. Great views from here. Wonderful place to put a Virtual. Thanks for organising the event DSD to bring us all up here to get this lovely cache. Answers sent to CO.
23,436. Found with minniek and a whole bunch of Canberra region cachers on our trip up to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko today.
With a CITO on top of Mount Kosciuszko and a pre-meet event last night in Jindabyne, minniek and I made a last minute decision to join in on the fun. Convoyed down with a few other groups for a few caches, then went our separate ways for even more caches plus the event. Up bright and early this morning and headed out on our alpine adventure. When the CO mentioned that he had put his virtual here I knew that I would return this way at least one more time in order to collect it, and today was the day. After the slow but steady walk up from Charlotte's Pass our little group of walkers arrived here for a well earned break. I had forgotten the story behind the hut so it was a timely reminder.
Thanks DARKSIDEDAN !! For both this Virtual, the CITO and the excuse to return up here after many many years. Favourite Point of course !

Nice quick find here.... all in order
So I see a CITO published for the top of Kozi....Aquilus1 have been wanting to come down here for ages to collect the Kozi caches (I already have them) but also get the 2000!
But, Aquilus1 rolls her ankle, very badly.... so it looks like the whole thing may be off, but, I hadn't accounted for the stubborn streak..."we ARE going, the ankle will be FINE".
So, off we go collecting some targeted caches along the way, we teamed up with another team in the beginning before going our separate ways.
Some interesting Cooma caches, followed by a NUTS drive out to The Gates, and cleaning out Buckanderra on the way down to Jindy. After checking in and meeting Tankengine & dty73, we grabbed a few more caches including a multi I started very, very long ago before ending up at the event.
Great burger, great bubbles... thanks all CO's

Summer holiday time, and day 2 at Thredbo - except that today we wanted to ride the bikes up the trail from Rawsons Gap to the highest dunny in Australia - and we did.
It was a tough ride - mostly because we stopped to check the views every 10 minutes - and it took lot longer to get up than down. Kudos to the guy who was pushing a stroller ( one with tiny wheels) the whole way up - that was insane - and also to all the little kids walking and riding up the trail.
We stopped for the Virtual at Seamans hut, and to get the clue for the Kosci multi, and then up to the Dunny.
The hut was busy, muggles everywhere - but, for a virtual - it doesn't matter, which is kinda cool. This is our second virtual, and it will be hard for any future virtuals to beat the view, and the experience, of being up here.
Also, Cache number 500 for us - a milestone at last
Thanks for the cache DarkSideDan - 500 - Yay!!

Each January I come to Thredbo for a Week that used to be called the National Running Week but is now the Thredbo Fun & Fitness Week. One of the races is called the Kosciusko Classic, which way, way back used to be from Crackenback to the summit and back. When running got banned on the grid it moved to start at Rawson's Pass with a variety of courses all involving the Snowy River Bridge and the Summit. For the last 10 or so years, we've walked down to the bridge and the race has been the 4.7k to the Summit. This year was the coldest I can ever remember with a howling headwind which made it very tough.
This year I stopped to get a photo for this cache on the way down, and also got the info for the multi.

Ascending Mount Kosciuszko was a very special experience.
I made sure to make the short detour down to Seamans Hut for this Virtual.
I could imagine this hut would provide the perfect sanctuary for those seeking shelter.
