We hope you enjoyed exploring and discovering the local history in the communities of Aotearoa New Zealand. The Tuia Matauranga GeoTour has now ended. Thank you to the community for all the great logs, photos, and Favorite Points over the last 30 months. It has been so fun!
Checked today..replaced where it should be...please replace the cache as you found it. Thanks
Too many people were around at the time and I also think a van was parked right next to it might come again another time
It's my Mega weekend road trip! This is day five and I'm traveling to Tauranga with a short detour up from Thames to get the awest Coromandel Geotour caches. Will expand on my logs, post photos, qualifying caches for challenges, etc. When I get home. TFTC
A much easier find than my previous cache.

Found today after the nearby Adventure lab cache. A great hide, but it had me looking on the wrong side of the road for a while, until I read a previous log then it slotted into place and was a quick find. TFTC
I'm on a trip with my Mum and two youngest children. We're doing a quick tour of the North Island. Yesterday we walked around the rim of the Waihi gold mine. Today we're off to Lottin Point. Then to Gisborne, Napier, Turangi, before heading to our old stomping ground Palmerston North. We're then off to Whanganui, New Plymouth, then Taumaranui via the Forgotten Highway. A quick dash down to the Raurumu spiral before going up to Waitomo Caves. Back to Auckland for a few days with family, the long awaited 2020/2022 Mega then home to Whangarei.
I was hoping to get enough of the first TMGT caches to complete this area, Gisborne area and Taranaki area. In the end I failed on all counts. I got 4 in this area, 1 dnf and family gave up on attempting more. I have lots of solved Tauranga puzzles so I'll have to come back and finish it off.
This was a neat hide by a beautiful old building. I was actually near here last night getting my Monopoly photo but I hadn't realised I was so close to this cache. Thanks for the hide

Not many muggles around today.A lovely building and a great hide.Nice use of cameo but didn’t take us too long too find.
This is our second one today. Lovely camo. Gold star ??. Awesome building and thanks for the history behind it. Great to learn more about our awesome country ??
Ooh forgot to mention. We signed in the final spot. Didn't have any spare paper with us new log required:-)
It's getting late, but we had to find this cache. Actually might have been good, as it was muggle free! Quickly found and stealthily stashed away again.

Quickly found the well disguised cache. Logbook almost full.
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!
Thanks for the cache, Macwatt

The original hiding location had been severely pruned….the co ordinates have been up dated in a similar area …all good to go
Thanks Macwatt for the cache. It’s #1545 for us. We found your cache on 17 October 2021. OMG, today, arborists cut the tree down. Fortunately they left just enough stump to not damage the cache hide/container. Will do a Needs Maintenance to draw CO’s attention to the beed to check this all out
Macwatt, your geocache TMGT. 1905 BoP (GC8CXK1) needs urgent maintenance. We visited it on 17 October 2021 and OMG, today, arborists cut the tree down. Fortunately they left just enough stump to not damage the cache hide/container. I will message you two photos - damage done to tree and precise location of cache now for you to find.

It took me like 10 minutes to look around, but suddenly! it was there! Thank you, nice camo
Thanks for this cache, Macwatt. I'm just in Tauranga for aboout 24 hrs , on business - walked around the CBD yesterday evening looking at the AL series but hasn't really looked a the map properly - so ,a further visit today.
I couldn't find a code word for this GeoTour series on the log; great camo - FP from me.

Found it! We were stumped for a bit but got it after about 15 minutes. Sweet camo.
Out chasing the four Geotour caches this afternoon. Doing the nearby AdLab as we go. Another tricky hide. Sunday afternoon turned out to be a perfect time to search undisturbed.

Took about of reading logs and navigating back and forth but we found. Nice camo.
Nice quick park and grab here. Paddle chick's log tells the rest of the story. Great to tick off another TMGT cache here thanks Macwatt. TFTC # 17,016
Isis58 and I are on a mission over the long weekend to find as many TMGT and PWGT caches as possible with the occasional normal cache thrown in as time allows. Found the camo but there was no container in it so had another look and found it had fallen out in the leaves, replaced on an angle so hopefully it won't fall out for the next finder. Thanks for your contribution to the geotour Macwatt

Thanks for this cache. Fun was in both spotting likely spots and then its all about the timing. Picked a couple of other spots before finding the right one. Great cameo, awesome urban cache i reckon and a fav from me. Im on a TMGT tour - BoP is the second to last area for me. Making my way from Whitianga down to Whakatane tonight so happy to find this - two more in Tauranga to go. TFTC.
Was given a nudge about the hint, and this time had better luck. Fortunate as to no muggles around as this is a very exposed spot. As to 'cache creep' - I'm thinking that in exposed spots like this, you tend to grab the container - and move away quickly - so that you're not standing there extracting log etc... when you return it's possible to put it back in a different place. What I can't understand is when we find out our own hides left on the ground as if they were dropped or something.
Previous DNF 16/5/21: No luck here today. Looked around in likely spots but all we could find was old plastic bags, beer cans and glass bottles. We didn’t want to touch the rubbish so gave up. It seems for every 3 finds we have a DNF, disappointing.

I Called past on my way home tonight...there was a car park conveniently beside GZ ..I could see the cache from the car...checked and it’s all good to go...replacing it in the original hide position ...cache creep I can not understand why people can not replace as found
A great way to start the school holidays. Awesome cache, fantastic hiding spot!!! TFTC
Really cool! Think about how many people walk past this every day and it's invisible to them.
#986 - After our Tsunami threats yesterday, was nice to have a day out collecting a few caches in area I hadn't got yet.
This one has eluded me before, but managed to find this one hiding in plain sight. Very clever camo.

Amazing camo! The log was a little wet. I need use two lines to write. I am sorry. Tftc!
Finally found it tonight! I had a good feeling that it was going to be found. It seemed too easy after all the challenges Ive had with this one. Maybe check its in the right place, Ive put it back where I found it.
Thanks for the awesome camo
Thanks for the awesome camo
Awesome camo, first time we looked it got to busy with muggles, back n found real quick.
Oh my goodness this had me stumped for so long! Have hunted for this on 4 different occasions and finally after talking with another hunter we found it. Great camo.
An evening cache trip in the cbd, picking up ones we hadn't attempted yet. Gps settled and we were glad not having to loiter in the carpark while people inside were dining. Cool camo!
Don’t know how we didn’t see this last time we were looking as one of us found it straight away today! Perfectly hidden but right we had been before. Love this old building.
#8967. Having been in Auckland for a week, I am driving back south to Wellington but diverted through Tauranga and Rotorua to pick up a few targeted caches. The TMGT caches were high on this list. I parked in the adjacent street and walked around to GZ. All quiet here so had a look at the building then checked the tree. Soon spotted the camo and the cache. Nicely done hide for a central city location. Thanks Macwatt for hiding it here. Enjoyed reading about the history of this site.
The first cache I've found in the TMGT series. I liked the camo and the location. It was a 5-minute find but I spent longer at gz reading the information and taking a couple photos of the post office. TFTC!
1 January 2021 10:06 . All quiet here on New Years Day! Great camo and an almost Instant find TFTC. Number 8953.
Found while doing the nearby lab caches.
Taybeedragon and I went on a tour of the Coromandel - one of the few places of New Zealand, especially of Te ika a Maui, that I have yet to explore throughly, and from there along the coast to Opotiki to see one of my many, many sisters. From 18 December to 5 January we found over 400 caches, including 12 adventure labs (60 caches), 20 or so TMGTs and a host of virtuals and earthcaches. And I hosted an event to see the sun come up on New Year's day - surprisingly popular given that it was at 5am. We climbed a lot of hills, saw some amazing beaches that were quite popular despite (or because of) the insane access to them, walk a lot of bush, entered and explored 8 gold mines and generally had an awesome time. However I am glad to be back, but now is the hard part, and I fear it will take just as long - logging!

This was on the radar so snagged andt agged while doing the LAB close by. Cheeers.
Day 14 - New Years Eve - Thursday 31 December - Running around Tauranga today for LABS, TMGTs and some other interesting caches along the way.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are off on another geocaching escape over Xmas, this time to the mighty Coromandel, then over to Opotiki and stop off at Rotorua to return home on 5 January. Had an fabulous time exploring many wonders of our country. Rounding up over 400 caches along the way, with a few LABS, 20 odd TMGTs, virtuals and lots of interesting earth caches to keep the mind busy. Watching the sun come up on New Years Day at Mt Maunganui was spectacular. Lots of walking and even more driving. But had an awesome time. Thanks to all COs who made this adventure so special.

Our second find on the last day of the year. A quick find in the first place we looked, and we enjoyed the creative camo. The area was quiet when we arrived, but then a carload of muggles arrived and took a long time to vacate the area, so we had to wait a few mins before we could replace the cache. TFTC Macwatt!
Well another dot day has appeared on the calendar so did another cache by bus. Worked a treat cache soon in hand and log signed. Grand old building.TFTC
Travelling up to Northland to see the kids. Stopped off to collect some central Tauranga caches. Very slowly collecting these TMGTs. Got about a quarter so will be several more years before we complete the series. Quick find here although we subsequently had to return as we had forgotten to collect the Key word. Thanks
Very high muggle area, there was even a policeman that tried to photobomb our glory shot (he didn’t know what we were doing though, don’t worry). Pretty fun quick find, adventurous location! Felt like Indiana Jones for a moment. Second find down, many more to go!
After looking for this cache 3 times..i finally found it. Distracted over the rubbish around the area and high muggle area i found it hard to search. Cache was not what i expected. Glad to have found it. SL. TFTC.
Very very high muggle area!! There were so many people standing outside the courthouse, I was getting nervous. But I think they were too engaged in conversations to see what I was doing. Very cool find!!
What can beat a lovely sunny day after a spell of wet weather?? Geocaching can! Cache was out of the container but easy to find, carefully replaced. We were amazed to see the lovely renovation - it was a sad looking empty building last time we saw it. Today it was full of people in the bistro and people arriving in the hotel. Altogether a great outcome. TFTC
North Island Campervan trip Day 6
After the fantastic holiday I had a few months ago traveling around the South Island, making the most of one of those incredibly cheap campervan deals available at the time, I figured it was worth taking a week off work before the stresses of the usual holiday period to enjoy some of the delights to be found around the top of the North Island.
This would be a great chance for me to seek out some targeted caches such as the TMGT ones as well as some that would help me with my Jasmer grid, missing minutes (for a couple of challenge caches I'm working on) and any other caches that caught my eye.
With the wild weather, I had decided to play it a bit safe and spent last night in a Motor Camp in Tauranga. I was intending to head back down to Whakatane/Ohope and then start the journey back towards Auckland today, never quite knowing how far I'd get by the time evening rolled in, especially as it was a later-than-usual start for me this morning.
It's been quite some time since I was last in Tauranga (about 11 years I think) and much of it I hadn't seen at all so it was good to have a bit of a drive around chasing caches to check the place out, in spite of the intermittent rain!
I ended up parking about 100m away and then walking to GZ. There weren't too many people around at this time (mid morning) but I was still being careful with my searching. After only a minute or two I thought I had found it, only to discover that what I had found was someone's stashed Hash Pipe (I think that's what it was, I'm no expert in such matters). So I put that back and carried on searching.
After 20 fruitless minutes I went back to that same location and a bit more searching made me realise that the drug paraphernalia had actually been hidden directly on top of the cache hide! I have no idea if whoever did that even realised about the cache, but suffice to say that once the find was made the log was swiftly signed and everything returned exactly as found before I made my way back to the van before the rain started again.
Thanks for setting this cache up. I'll certainly remember this one lol!

Stopped to look while in town, Came too late in evening to search, not many muggles on road but too dark to see. Haha. Will be back next time in tga.
Heading over to get the TGA TMGT caches, I then went up to get the last in Whitianga, and then (because I'm mad) decided to get two I'd previously DNFd in Auckland.
Didn't take too long to find this well hidden container, and what a pretty cool building. Interesting reading too.
TFTC Macwatt, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 3 find(s) of 15 today, making this find #2305

Thanks spending two weeks travelling around with Kiscardi collecting cache. I long list including all the TMGT cache to find. A bit of a rushed trip would like to spend more time in some places but two weeks away from home and work is long enough for me.
Heading up the Coromandel and back down to Tauranga while on a road trip around the North Island with NZ Bozzy.
We are collecting North Island TMTG caches and also some oldies and some missing DT ones as well And celebrating a special birthday too.
TFTC and bringing us here
sorry for the cut and paste

Guessing a smuggler found it and took the container....found the paperlog/dry luckily put bk in a small clear bag I found nearby as had nothing on me...
There was a party of students/tourists? being given a tour etc near here so we parked nearby and I headed off and up around the side to the hide site. Nicely camo and hidden cache and a classic old building to enjoy too, T F T C.
A road trip with my daughter today. She wanted to go to Tauranga, and I was on leave for the most part of this week so this was a mutually enjoyed visit to the BOP for the first time in a few years. We left at just after 6 to beat the traffic and after a long hold-up at Maccas we were soon on our way. A stop off in Paeroa on the way to the Mount (which was unexpectedly, and frustratingly, closed) and then a few TMGTs and the Waihi mine loop walk and all was good. Back in good time and late enough to avoid the traffic snarl ups.

Initially was disappointed to find the log missing however a thorough look on rhe ground and a spotted a familiar onject. There is no way that could fall out so hopefully it will stay put now. Another fabulous container. Thank you very much for the hard work you did creating this. Awesome cache.

Thank goodness that one was a bit easier ️ I heard the next one will be a challenge I am on a North Island Figure of Eight your. For the first 4 days I spend time in the Bay of Plenty with my husband JDScout. We are basing ourselves in Rotorua during this time.
Thanks Macwatt for creating this hide. It was find 8921 for me.

I like the two toned building we walked past to get to the cache. We found the hiding container but no cache!! After contacting the CO we kept ferreting around and found the cache. After signing the log we put the cache in its hiding container and placed it as per the instructions. A fantastic container -well done. Favourite given.
Out and about with Jude_E starting our Figure of 8 tour of part of the North Island. not only geocaching but enjoying long the scenery as well.

Out a beaut springs day. High muggle area but great camoflage. Thanks for the hide.
2nd attempt at logging as the app shows found but it's not transferring to the website. Please excuse brief copy and paste. I had a gym challenge at the Mount so made the weekend of it and targeted most of the tour caches.
I was lucky enough to park right beside it, though I didn't realise that at the time! Glad I was early so very few muggles about!

On a TMGT expedition, with four wagging tails in tow. Again stuck in the camper van. Enjoyed a nice quick find, and a well constructed hide and camo. Tftc
I spent the day running around Tauranga getting quite a few caches.
The first time I came here I looked at the wrong level and then gave up. I got a nudge from a PF and returned later.
I figured the reason it was easy for others and hard for me is that I am colorblind and can't spot the necessary differences. While I was pondering my dilemma, two ladies came by and asked me to take their picture. They had just had a birthday lunch, so they were carrying flowers and wanted a picture. I agreed on the condition that they help me with my problem.
After a few shots, they looked in the right direction and spotted the cache right away. I signed the log and they were nice enough to roll the log paper and put everything back together for me. TFTC.
