Went to retrieve this cache today and it has disappeared or I can't find my own cache. It survived for 30 months and then went missing within 1 week of archive.
We hope you enjoyed exploring and discovering the local history in the communities of Aotearoa New Zealand. The Tuia Matauranga GeoTour has now ended. Thank you to the community for all the great logs, photos, and Favorite Points over the last 30 months. It has been so fun!
Found to finish off this section of the tour while in Auckland. More later, TFTC
I ran out of time to come and find this cache when I was in Auckland for a few days at Queens Birthday last year trying to grab as many of the tour caches as I could. Paddle Chick and I are on a bit of a mission to get this tour completed before it finishes and although she has already found it - this was on our list today so I could also sign it off. Quick find here thanks Team Welsh. TFTC # 18,289
(# 7144) On a trip to retrieve the Auckland/Northland Geotour caches (TMGT/PWGT). Day 1 was a morning flight to Auckland from Wellington then driving around Auckland to grab the required caches. Took longer than expected but got there in the end. Just impacted the non geotour caches I wanted to get. The weather up north had a few very heavy showers A quick find with a great view of the works. Thanks for bringing me here.
Another nice quick find, funny that we were next to find it after our friends PHILBIRDBOYS. TFTC.
Whoops thought this was logged when it was found on 12/3! Wasn't sure we could get to GZ as lots of temporary rmfencing around but there was a way through. A bit scared that someone may be "living" nearby but if so they weren't at home. Lots of rubbish around though so was glad to spot cache, sign log and get out of there!
On our way back from a bike ride around the CBD we passed a swim event just down the road but luckily this area was pretty quiet. Unfortunately this area looks well used for nefarious activities, beer cans, food debris and suspected toilet area this is not a nice place to be. Maybe this one needs re-positioning. TFTC!
After completing a pleasant, morning walk around the Westhaven promenade, I made my way to this cache in a great location with nice views over the Waitemata Harbour! Quickly, I found the oddly shaped tree which was hiding the cache container. Cache all well and in good condition and I replaced with a bit more natural camo ; ) TFTC Team Welsh, and the lovely views!
As the weather was beautiful this afternoon, I decided to go on a big caching trip where I would walk from Westhaven --> Herne Bay --> Westmere --> Western Springs --> Pt Chev. All in all 32 total finds, including 18 trads, 10 AL's, 2 virtual's and 2 mystery caches. Thanks very much to all CO's for their wonderful hides!

We tried to get to this from the park from across the road but had to go round the block and approach this one again nearly going over the bridge. Finally found the entrance for a quick snag and tag here. Cheers.
Day 4 - Sunday 23 January - Browns Island was on the radar for the morning with the team 'DONE BY ONE'. The afternoon was again running all over Auckland collecting some GTs and scooping up a few others along our journey. The LAB around the bays was also in our sights.
God I hate these spagetti motorway intersections. Lenny was not much help.
Zara, Toby and I are on our North Island expidition for a couple of weeks. Got The Seagnoid along for the first 4 days, heading to the Auckland Mega. PWGTs and TMGTs are on the radar for this trip. Lots of driving on gravel roads and visited lots of amazing places on our 6000km road trip snagging 200+ caches along the way. Visiting Cape Reinga, Bay of Islands, Gisborne and White Rock along our journey. Another awesome trip. Thanks to all CO's.

We choose a wrong approach for this one. Parking near the pool, were everyone was, was a bad idea, as the road was too dangerous to cross. We still enjoyed the playground and a quick walk in the park, we found a nice old fountain. We then went to a better carpark, and looked around in the bush. In the end we found it, container is in fairly good condition, logbook was fine, but the area is quite dirty. Too bad we didn't have anything to grab some rubbish.
Taybeedragon and I parked somewhere and walked here from the park but were stymied by the fence. Ended up going back to the car and driving here, almost getting it wrong and ending up on the bridge. But a sudden bit of realisation a few seconds before the point of no return had us right. After that it was an easy walk to the cache (although there is still some random bits of fencing here to walk around).
Day 3. Day after the Mega. In a lot of ways it didn't feel like a mega, but one of the things that did have that mega feel was being able to do the morning trip to Brown's Island. After spending 4 hours walking through knee deep kikuyu grass I am walking noticeably slower now - that wading really wears out the legs! Now for a afternoon of random cachy bits.

#12,867. Parked on Curran Street in Westhaven, Auckland for a short walk and grab. GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Quick find. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Bush bash to the base of the tree and discovered a less intense way out. I don’t really like to make things harder for myself but sometimes I just can’t help it. Pretty easy find really if you take an alternate route to the base of the tree.
What a great cache. After trying to figure out what the hint looked like I finally found it. Found a travel bug. TFTC
Weather forecast was for bad weather but it was a beautiful day so we decided to head out and explore.
Wandered along the grassy side of the road (away from all the fishing action). Found a gap in the trees and nipped in and under cover. Didn't take long to spy the outer camo - how cute!
Thanks for the cache.

Thanks for the cache.
11 and 9 year old found this one nice and easy. Lovely housing for a cache! Thank you.

Thanks to whoever created the cache. It was our first one and an awesome activity during lockdown.
Wasn't expecting to end up over here on my walk this morning, so I didn't have this cache saved offline. I remembered DNFing this one a while back but didn't search for very long that time, and I could vaguely remember where GZ was, so decided to have a search. Having previously found some other Auckland TMGTs I had an idea of what to look for, and my memory turned out to be correct as just a bit further in from where I'd looked last time, there was the cache. All good here, codeword noted just in case, and TFTC!
I went out to find a few caches this morning before heading over to my daughter's place for the day. After finding the cache at Point Erin park I wandered over to this one. Hmm - not quite sure of the best way from A to B but I got there in the end. Zero'd in on GZ and spotted the clever cache. TFTC, Biggles.
This was my primary target for my evening's ramblings - my first Auckland GeoTour cache (for both tours). Wandered along, having come down from Curran Street and headed alongside the harbour. As it was dark I couldn't see the factory, so couldn't enjoy the reason for the placement, but it was made up for by the cache container - quite neat. Signed log, recorded the code, and then continued towards under the bridge. All good here, and TFTC
Quick find once we got here after waiting for our chance to cross over as lots of walkers tftc
Had to wait a while before ducking in to grab this one due the the high volume of Sunday walkers and cyclists in the area. Spotted the cache pretty quick once in the immediate area. Watch out for biological waste on your approach! TFTC, it was a great day to enjoy the views of the factory.
Started looking around GZ then almost stood on someone's dump! Didnt bother looking further after that so moved on.
After an afternoon in the city, AliGle and I called in here on our way home to take a look for this cache. Once I found the best way to access GZ, this cool cache was soon spotted. TFTC!
On our way back from a trip into the city, Vistra and I did a quick park and grab for this Geotour cache. The hint was spot on. No issues here.

#8910. The TMGT caches were on my radar for this visit to Auckland but with family activities from New Year and poor weather its been a mission to get started on the tour. Yesterday I drove over here with the family after visiting the Weta Cave tour at Sky City. We had no sooner arrived and parked when a tropical downpour started and didn't relent after 20 minutes. So gave up and drove off. Today I was back. Its been raining and showery all day but it had eased back by the time I arrived. Wandered down to GZ and after noticing an access route into the thicket I soon located the nicely placed cache in its housing. Signed the logbook and returned where found. Good to have an interesting container to find at GZ. Thanks Team Walsh for placing it here.
Bit of fun trying to find the right approach to this with motorways and work sites but peserverance pays off since these are the ones i am up here for! TFTC, its beautiful early evening with a gorgeous stroll back to city via wynward for dinner.
Squally weather. Interesting views and 'art works'. Majestic views of the underbelly of the bridge too.
I found this cache along with ten students who made up team "SJCgeocamp". We traveled from Hamilton today and came to find a bunch of geocaches around Auckland before heading north.
Seeing as we were in a van with a trailer stopping and grabbing this cache was a little problematic and we had to jump out while our drive did a circuit to pick us up after the find had been made. Having found the TMGT cache on Mount Hobson we soon spotted this similar cache. Nice views across to the sugar works today.

First I found some suspicious container and then I saw it. Great “container” for a cache. Love it! TFTC
On my way home from the optometrist (thoroughly recommended - Harrison at 1 Jervois Rd), I wandered done here for a looksee. Cache easy to find, but no trackable present when I arrived. View to the Sugar Works has some foreground interest at the moment. TFTC.
Rather bleak tonight so few muggles to worry about. Lots of construction work in the general area but the cache is still safe in its excellent refuge. TFTC
Out and about at the Mega that wasn't with a group of five crazy kiwi caching chicks, Ethness, Jude_E, Nosynel, GracieGPSfun and me. It was great to finally collect this in a dash across the city collecting caches as we went. A quick find in a lovely spot. TFTC.
In Auckland for the mega that isn't! Five of us decided still to come and find a few caches as there will always be plenty more when the mega actually happens. Third TMGT one for the day. Had to go back as we forgot to write the code down. Duh. Thanks, Team Welsh for another great cache.

Darkness was falling and after a full day of caching, including a meetup with others at an event (CO included), a group of us Southlanders met up to nab a couple of virtuals and others around the area. This was an interesting hunt in the dark but finally we honed in on the cache. Well done Team Welsh! tftc
Having just met the CO at the Birkenhead event, we had to stop by here on the way south. Found with torches everywhere. Soon had cache in hand.
In lieu of Akld Mega 2020, we decided to use our air tickets anyway, and here we were. Travelling with South Island cachers, we found a number of caches including this one.
We have typically signed as mrandmrschosen1978 or occasionally MM78.

Thanks I have now been over and seen the Chelsea area first hand. A lovely area over the harbour.
Travelling with Kiscardi we are from down south.

Found a bed for the night at the grand central railway station. Awesome beds and very quite for central Auckland.
Jumped on my bike for a lovely ride around the bay For two TMTG caches. There is road works down there at present so biking seemed a lot quicker.
TFTC and a fun tour with NZ Bozzy

The main target from my stop off in this area and a nice quiet walk along here probably thanks to the road works I suspect. Was able to approach GZ unseen and soon spotted the cache container and outer host. Noted the codeword and replaced as found and headed to the next choice for finding. T F T C Team Welsh.
A medical appointment in the CBD today meant I had to leave work early to attend (shame). I left in good time to make sure I could find a decent parking place and a little diversion via Herne Bay first to grab another TMGT cache, and collateral nearby ones too. I only found a few but all was good, though I twisted my back getting out of the car just before the appointment so a slow walk up to Albert Street from Victoria Park.

Did a bit of circling round possible trees before spotting the adorable container. Didnt read logs...go me.
A day off work so thought I'd go do some geocaching in Auckland getting the TMGT caches (and one Jasmer cache)
I had originally come here after getting my Jasmer cache for November 2019. There were roadworks in the area, right where I wanted to be, so I decided I'd skip it. I went to the CBD and found The White Lady and had a pretty good burger and shake. After DNFing the Onehunga Mills cache, I thought I'd see if the workers had left yet... they had, excellent! Another neat container, and now that it's just about midnight, I think it's back to Hamilton.
TFTC Team Welsh, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 1 find(s) of 1 today, making this find #2237

Normally we look the other way, from the sugar factory back over to this side. Nice to see the reverse this time. Cool container!
TFTC. Lovely to be able
to complete another cache from this fantastic series.

Pottering around while awaiting Effie to finish work, for our little road trip. Cute hide! Not too tricky in between muggles
Came here tonight looking for this geotour cache. I'm starting this a bit late but hopefully it will still be around long enough for us to complete this series [?]. Obviously at this time of the day, the view to the sugar factory is limited to seeing a number of lights in the background but the view crossing the bridge from the North Shore is outstanding with all the high rise buildings illuminated. TFTC
We managed a park quite close to GZ despite all the people fishing from the sea wall, so just short walk. It didn't take long to spot the familiar container. TMGT find number 91. TFTC.
+ a marble, - nothing.

Away in the camper for a few days to do the Auckland TMGT's and anything else that's nearby. Another area we haven't visited for a while, but this place has changed. A lot more building around than there used to be. Mr S launched his first yacht into Westhaven way back in the 60's. Quite a few people around today, lots of them fishing. When Mr S was just a boy he and his father used to fish the upper harbour after launching at Whau Creek. Those were the days when there was heaps of fish around to be caught. Mrs S, in a previous life often used to fish just off the Chelsea Sugar works and her first husband brought home a little tiny kitten that he'd found while doing some work there. We called her Chelsea. Lol. More memories.
Thanks Team Welsh for another TMGT and another cool camo container. Have another FAV.

this was a last minute trip away to grab some geotour caches up in Northland, and the odd one here and there, weather was great back the day we headed home, thanks to all the COs for the placements and the enjoyment I had finding them.
Found this one after our course finished early so decided on a quick walk to grab a couple of the caches nearby. Could not see the factory due to the time of day. Thanks for the cache
A bit of a murky day today in Auckland, but YES we need the rain ! Parked up & walked across to GZ, nice easy find. TFTC
Lovely view across the harbour to the Chelsea Sugar factory. Great to have a chauffeur who kept us off the motorway
We parked up a little up the road and wander over to GZ. After finding the correct GZ it was then a matter of finding our way in.
There may be a homeless person sleeping near GZ as there was a bit of clothes there.
We left a pet rock - a wombat and dropped off a TB.
Thanks for putting this here for us to find.
