We hope you enjoyed exploring and discovering the local history in the communities of Aoetearoa New Zealand. The Tuia Matauranga GeoTour has now ended. Thank you to the community for all the great logs, photos, and Favorite Points over the last 30 months. It has been so fun!
Going for a walk between showers. Well it had just started to shower as I went to locate this one. Saw three goats run off into the bush. A nice easy find. Thanks for the cache
Catching up on logging after our geotour roadtrip. Found that one with Cyclicalcaching, felt lucky because it was pretty buried. Thanks for the stop there!
Was really buried in mud and dirt from the rains!
But we found it thanks to the hint!
Thanks for another geotour cache!

After a break for lunch, we started clearing up a few caches we didn't get a couple of days ago. This was our first and a nice easy find. Code noted down and laminated denali tb left behind. tftc
Found a useful Park over the road saw the rock immediately. walked over and notice the in correct grammar on the plaque. Interesting historical event.tftc
We checked this out after doing grocery shopping yesterday and was surprised it was infact missing. Mum came with a new one prepared today on the way out to Ngahere. All good here again.
Cache was laying far from the stone, i gave it back and covered with the offcuts. Tftc
Another great cache to get more of the series thank u for the code loving the places we are visiting found with xsaveya on a south island adventure over the christmas period. Sorry for the late log.
#9325. Its Good Friday. The start of an Easter road trip to the South Island to pick up a swag of geotour caches in Canterbury, West Coast and Otago over the extended Easter break. Doing this trip with caching buddy Infoferret as we decided to share the cost of a rental car and fuel plus share the driving with the long distances planned for this trip. We hired a hybrid car and it was a good choice as it was economical but easily made it through all the long distances with no concerns over fuel tank capacity. Today we are heading to Hokitika via Hanmer Springs, Lewis Pass, Reefton and Greymouth (just 25 litres of fuel used for this day).
Night time had descended upon us as we entered Greymouth. After doing caches on the north side of the river we crossed the bridge and IF found a place to park while I raced over over here during a break in the traffic. Quickly felt the cache and was able to see the logbook in the streetlight so didn't need to use my torch and alert people in cars as to what I was up to. Signed the logbook and replaced everything as found. Thanks gracie7 + Mum for the cache and giving us yet another excuse to stop on the road to Hokitika.

Whew! Finally made it across the road! A nice find for MisterAnthonys 500th cache and a great bit of history. TFTC
WOOHOO! My 500th find. To mark the occasion I have left 500coins of copper in the cache for the next cacher to grab a coffee. TFTC
Found all neatly tucked away..great warm sunny day here today .cache found and log signed ...thanks good history 1
We got to stop close by for some stuff so walked along the bike trail and risked life and limb crossing the road! I was interested in the layered rock formations nearby. Thanks for the cache Gracie7 + mum
Time for my first of 2 visits over to clear up the TMGT and PWGT caches on the West Coast
Quickly located in between cars. Some idiot wrote down the cache name as the code! It's ok, I look forward to returning. I could hear kids under the bridge... pretty sure they should be at school! haha.
TFTC gracie7 + Mum, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 2 find(s) of 13 today, making this find #2471

Covered as best we could for the next finder. Interesting opportunity to learn our town's history.
Found a place to park in this busy spot and wandered over. Hopefully cache can find a more permanent home than the temporary location. Tried to give it a bit more coverage. TFTC.
Cool spot to visit. I didn't realise the historic place was here. Found with KCN. TFTC
Victoriousone made the find for this on as she joined me for the afternoon after the event.
Doing a road trip as I have to wait for my villa to be refurbished. What better way than doing a road trip geocaching. Thanks for placing and maintaining.

In the area for the day today and the TMGT caches are high on the priority list to finish off. A quick and easy find here. Signed log, recorded code, TFTC,
Late in the day and I’m losing my geosenses. Couldn’t for the life of me find this one. Resorted to a message to the CO who pointed me in the right direction. Turns out it should have been one of the easiest find for the day but not for me! Tftc
I'm in Greymouth for a couple of nights, after hiking the Paparoa Track. I decided to hire a car today to get out and about, explore the area and grab a few caches. Made an early morning visit to this spot and made a quick find of the cache here. TFTC!
I found this cache while on a family holiday to the South Island. We had an amazing time covering more than 3000km and seeing some of the very best our country has to offer. We were very fortunate with the weather and enjoyed a wide range of experiences.
Of all the places we visited only Greymouth and Christchurch had TMGT caches so I made these a priority. With only two days in Greymouth and a long list of activities planned for the family during the day I grabbed this one late in the evening once our boys were in bed. Was thankful for a nice easy find.

Thank you for placing a cache here found with watcache on a south island adventure. TFTC
Found with NZDi. We are staying at Carters Beach Holiday Camp as a base for a few days geocaching on the Wet Coast. Todays plan is to head to Greymouth picking up as many roadside PnGs as we can, with a few more interesting excursions thrown into the mix.
This is our thirty-seventh cache of the day, and second TMGT cache. This was a QEF PnG but as mentioned at the previous TMGT cache we found today, we neglected to obtain the TMGT Code Word for the souvenir, not that we a likely to need it in reality.

This one was an after lunch cache that I picked up after finding the final of a nearby multi. Everything in order.
After arriving by train, once we grabbed the rental car we found a spot to park, then walked by the river grabbing caches. Grabbed this one as we headed back to the car. Tftc
On a trip to the coast and caching along the way. Lovely spot. Found with everdene22. Tftc
In Greymouth for the weekend with lytteltonwitch We came with a list - to find the TMGT caches, the Adventure Labs series and any other finds were bonuses.
Thank you for this cache, gracie7 + Mum. Delighted to find it (in the rain).

Thanks for putting out this cache for woolwood9 and I to find!??
SL **tm/ww NZ** (may just be a black smudge on the many wet or plastic logs)
*We soon had another good cache located!*

Fun, but I don’t think I can do the tour..! Loved this cache, the little book is so cute!
Have definitely found a cache here before. The wording in the plaque stood out to me then. Big chunk of land!
(# 6196). Day 12 of my South Island odyssey. Today is getting some caches around Greymouth as well as having a good look around. A quick find. Everything in order. TFTC
Yet another TMGT. We picked the hard way to do this. Started here, went through the bush going the wrong way, walked around the bush to find the cache almost back where we started! An easy find in a place that looks like it gets boggy.
Taybeedragon and I are off on another weekend's exploring - again! This time to the West Coast. The company owes me some time so I took Friday off. Lots of rain on the way down, but after that it was a nice cloudy-but-not-rainy weekend. It never rains on the West Coast when I come to visit! Parked Zara in Greymouth and explored mostly around the Hokitika area. Taybeedragon had an excellent trip planned - two cycle trips, some TMGTs and adventure labs, 74 caches all up yesterday. Today... Brunner! And then back to do more Lab caches..

Day 5 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)
Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.
Today was going to be one of my favourite drives, up the West Coast taking in all that wonderfully rugged coastal scenery between Greymouth and Westport. I've been lucky enough to do this route a few times, and it never fails to stir my sense of joy and wonderment.
But before I could get that started, there was the small matter of having to find the 5 local TMGT caches. This was my second cache for the day, and a lot less dramatic now that I was a little further inland. Initially I spent a little while looking in and around the area where I'm sure the cache was originally, and I have to admit to beginning to wonder if I would find it when I noticed something a little way away, and then it was an instant find.
I would humbly suggest that the co-ords are out by about 8m on a bearing of around 300 deg. Doesn't sound like much but I think it would make it a more straightforward search. No problems signing the log and replacing everything exactly as found.
Thanks for placing this cache.

DNF but it's my own fault!
I'd saved this cache in an offline list in C:geo as one to target. A quirk of doing that is that any new logs *or changes to the cache page* won't update unless I refresh the page. I didn't do that and only now I'm in bed logging did I see the new hint. I *was* going to mention the chainsaw carnage as the reason I saw nothing, now I see it's just that I was looking in the wrong spot.

While out doing our shopping we passed this and I caught a glimpse of GZ and noticed the cache hiding place had been significantly pruned. We parked up nearby and came to check it out. The tree the cache was in had indeed been pruned and luckily for us a nice (worker?) had moved the cache nearby. This location should be fine until work here has been completed and then we will look for a more permanent location.
Before we head back to Christchurch we thought we'd find ourselves a few caches. Was a nice, quick and easy find, as described. As Angie33210 was starting to read the hint I looked in the most obvious place and tada, one cache.

Out caching with Angie32210, Starwars32210 and T00thless. Our last cache in Greymouth before returning home. And it wasn't raining today (unlike yesterday!!)
It was a bit tricky finding a place to park but we managed to find one a short distance away and walked back to GZ.
This is the sort of place that is right there in plain sight but probably driven past unnoticed by many each day.
Thanks gracie7 + Mum for another great TMGT cache.
Our 87th stop on the Geotour.

Such an amazing way to show case New Zealand's History for us and also overseas visitors. So as My week in the South Island greatly changed I decided a wee roadie trip was to unfold on TMGT caches plus a few others along the way from Bluff to Picton via Coast to Coast. Very scenic and fab weather at this time of the year. Most interesting caches with some a REAL Challenge but so much fun. Many thanks to all CO's and I'm very pleased that ALL smiles on the South Island Series is now complete. Wee Roadie ended up being 3000km's of pure fun yahooooo.
Another quick park and grab after dodging the traffic .Thanks for this cache gracie7 + Mum.
This was a lot quicker to find the log than the last cache here. I hadn't noticed that plaque before and didn't know the history here. Thanks gracie7 + Mum

Awaiting a train. Had a spare hour so grabbed a couple more caches. I signed the log and then I replaced the cache container as it was discovered.

It was around 10.30pm when we were here so all was quiet around. Parked across the street and walked over, fortunately had a torch with us to make the find easier. We signed the log and took a photo, but then realised later on that it was not the code word so had to come back the following day to get the correct one. TFTC.
Spending a couple of days in Greymouth to do TMGT caches and anything else that's around and relatively easy. We thought we knew where we should go but we went the long way and made it harder. Got there in the end though and soon found the cache.
Thanks gracie7 + Mum.

We arrived in Greymouth this afternoon on the train from Christchurch and picked up our rental car. Before we drove to our Hokitika hotel we stretched our legs along the riverside to find some geocaches. A nice quick find here. SL. TFTC.
Spending the late afternoon picking up the geotour caches around Greymouth. We used the Warehouse / Countdown carpark, and walked around to GZ from there. Did not take long to track down the cache. Thanks.
Parking abit annoying and busy road. Interesting history and spot to visit. We saw two baby weka here with their parents so cute. Nice easy find. TFTC.
Found with Mr&MrsNZAdventurer.

Day Four Of Our Journey to South Island with Squirrel Nutcase.
Early start for today with travelling to the West Coast to pick up TMGT caches and any others on the way, then back to Christchurch to pick up up a few more before leaving for Bleinheim the next day.
Country side amazing, will have to come back some day and spend more time in the area.

With Fap and Gap... Late last year, we started to plan for a trip to the South Island - The goal was to complete the TMGT trail.
Christchurch - Westport (Return): Today's trip was a total unknown. We estimated how long it was going to take to reach our destination, but we had no real idea about actual timing. We set our clocks for 6 AM, but we were up well before then... It was difficult to navigate the inner city streets in the dark, and we probably took a few wrong turns. Finally, the road signs started to point to the West Coast, and we were on the way. The flat Canterbury plains gave way to foothills and the Southern Alps. This is an amazing part of the country...
A lot of traffic came through the area, and it felt like a mad dash to get across the road. A quick find at ground zone, as per the hint. Another TMGT find. Thanks gracie7 + Mum and TFTC.

Making a long weekend out of Waitangi Day exploring the West Coast with Zara Toby, Bullertrout and Bro. Its Waitangi Day today. Exploring Hokitika, Ross, Hokitika George, Lake Mahinapua, Lake Kaniere areas today. Great time and visited some amazing places. On the negative side got a speeding ticket in Hokitika and munched up Zaras nose.

#17859. Visiting this location brought back memories of opening lots (and lots) of inner containers. No need to do that for this cache. Another interesting bit of history. TFTC.
After heading up the Grey Valley as far as Ikamatua on the southern side and then back to Greymouth on the northern side, now time to grab some local caches before we think about dinner. TFTC
What a fabulous idea to share the history of our great country with both visitors and locals. We are slowly chipping away at the series.
Another day another province on the TMGT trail.
Nice quick find after an overnight stay, no problem with the find TFTC.

It is our last day in Hokitika, as StreetWalkerNZ and I are spending tonight in Greymouth then returning home to Christchurch tomorrow. The forecast was for rain developing, so we made an early start to find a few more caches in the area before the rain set in.
After lunch, the skies had cleared so we walked around gathering info for the four new multis that had popped up in the central area since our last visit. Before setting off to look for any finals, we stopped to look for cache. Have been here before for a cache, but didn't realise this was the pa site. TFTC.

Found on a three day caching journey over to the West Coast. We really enjoyed the challenging hours spent in solving the many puzzle caches and now the signing off on the log books. We had a great spell of weather as we traveled along the many roads in the area. Many thanks to the various cache owners for placing and maintaining their caches. TFTC
Had a great day on the West Coast todya lots of km's walked, grabbed heaps of caches, and had a lot of fun. Many Thanks Bitsprayer
Team BOP on another crazy mission! Labour Weekend 2019 - flights were booked, plans were made - Waitangi Weekend certainly came around fast. The goal here in the South Island was a combination of Jasmer caches, CANZ Caches, some high favourites and of course - the 41 TMGT caches we’ve got left after clearing the North Island last month.
This tour has been so much more then a challenge or compulsion. The historical significance alone has made it worth the journey and I truly thank all the CO’s for helping to make this happen. TFTC, see you at the Mega ????
