Second day of a weekend in the Wairarapa and our 5th cache of the day. Enjoying a rare outing on this side of the Lake. Searched for a while in the location indicted to no avail. Then tried the other side of the path and found 2 metres from path at base of a tree. TFTC.

First cache of the day. Awesome trail and one Ive been wanting to tick off for a while. Great weather for it too! Would love to come back again on a bike next time Very Happy Found with the other half of Offseason19 and a tag-along.

Enjoying this bike ride in perfect weather, a group of seven of us, all on e-MTBs. Thanks GSEL for this quick grab which was closer to the track than the hint suggests.

27-Sep-22
It's succeeded at getting baking powder into the middle of nowhere! A nice stop almost at the halfway point of my bike ride.

My log could be identical to BFG's - it doesn't seem long since my last caching trip here but it must be a few years because this is a new cache since then even though it's not that new.

Anyway, I found it after a short hunt. Everything is nice and dry here, with its two containers and one plastic bag. Sometimes that's what it takes! And I don't know where the other caches in this series are but I'll keep my eyes open for them. TFTC.

Doesn’t feel like that long since me & D rode the trail, but a handful of caches have sprung up in the intervening 5 years, so I’m walking the first part again to claim them on this beautiful spring day. Quick find, thanks GSEL!

Aria couldn’t decide which side of the track. But at the end of the day there are only two choices.

Amazing weather for our bike ride there and back today. Even had a tail wind home. Really enjoyed the historical information. Cache is all good. TFTC

31-Dec-21
Quick find. Rode out from lower hutt to get picked up here by car but left part of bike rack at home so only one of us got to go back in the car and the other one had to bike back over the incline and home. A long day in the heat!

.... caching up on logs we might have forgot. Spend a lot of time here!

07-Mar-21
...Today is 9 October 2021. Going through my Drafts on the Garmin I realised I forgot to log quite a few geocaches this year! So I'm catching up.
Sveppi and I often visit this spot. We don't geocache much these days, we spend a lot of time crashing off track hunting goats and deer.
On 7/3/2021 we came up here for a goat mission (which was successful) and I decided to take the time to grab this cache (which we regularly walk past) along the way.

Mrs Sherlock, myself and a geocaching newbie decided to walk up to the summit today. A nice quick find here by Mona Mower... she's a natural. So the log book has been signed and the cache is nicely back in its spot all ready for the next geo-hunter. Thanks heaps for taking the time to set up this cache. I really appreciate your efforts in doing so. TFTC

Quick find for us today as we head out to Featherston, tftc

Nice find with woolwood9 on a quick trip away finding some geocaches.
No problem with the find here, we enjoyed the walk up past here to the new swing-bridge.

With good weather at last I came for a day's caching in the Wairarapa, starting off with a bike ride to score three unfound caches along here. No problems here, a quick find within a couple of minutes. All in good condition. Signed log, TFTC.

Reasonably quick find - once I started looking on the correct side of the track!

Found during a ride from Maymorn to Cross Creek and back, which turned out to be about an hour longer than sensible given my current fitness level.

Picked up the TB, will take it back to the South Island with me next week

After heading to Woodside to take part in my first parkrun in months, I headed to the Cross Creek side of the Rimutaka Rail Trail for a spot of caching. It was still early when I arrived and I kind of expected to have the place to myself. However, there were several vehicles in the car park including one belonging to someone who was here for a different type of hunting. I let her get ahead of me but I ended up passing her when she stopped to talk to another hunter walking the other way.

Murphy's Law meant she arrived just as I found the cache but I was relieved to hear the question: geocaching? I had found a PBBP cache elsewhere and figured out what the BP part was. Today, I was able to add the PB part to my knowledge base. I had picked up the Southpole Geocoin a few weeks ago and intended to relocate it to Taranaki but left it at home. This seemed like a good safe cache to leave it in.

After deciding that my recent lockdown should have had more exercise and less Netflicks I felt I needed to try and rectify my deterioration in health by hitting the hills more often. With my son back at school and my girlfriend catching up on her postponed beauty appointments I was free to reacquaint myself with my mountainbike today. It has been a while since I have been on the rail trail and a few new caches have popped up during that time. Today I felt was the perfect opportunity to;
A) Drag my sad ass up to the summit
B) Try out my new GPSr handlebar mount
C) Check out the new(ish) swing bridge and
D) Log some smilies.
This was my first find for the day which I slightly overshot. I stopped and walked back to the GZ knowing I would be travelling much quicker on the return ride. Once I realised I was searching the wrong side of the trail I started over and made the find quickly. Cache in good, dry condition. TFTC GSEL

missed this one going up but got it on the way back
we are out trying our mt bikes out and what better place than the Remutaka rail trail.
This area is so full of rail way history an the things people did many years ago just to help the wheels of the industry to keep going around
many thanks

Had a phone call from 2Bulbars earlier in the week wanting to head back into the remutaka's area and start from the fear
featherston side so here we are and no rain insight yay good ride up had lunch at the summit then headed around the backroad which at the mega we only found this road by mistake so have been keen to come back and of course pick up the few caches around this way.
Quick find here thanks for the placement and the smiley.

Found on the return journey as over shot this on the way up

#11,702. Returned for another good hike in Rimutaka Forest Park. GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Relatively quick find. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Thanks for the placement, and for bringing us to this site, and …

I hadn't done much caching all summer and I think I was a bit rusty here on my first visit - being the first cache of the day. I looked around for 5 minutes or so before giving up knowing that my revisit on the return was more likely to bear fruit - as is usually the case for me. Sure enough, on the way back I realized I might have been on the wrong side of the track due to the GPS uncertainly I was getting and so a find then resulted. I remember the ride to cross creek taking a while from the car park last time and seemed to take an age on foot. So thanks for breaking it up with a new cache.

Thanks for the cache. I haven't been out chasing caches for a few months, went for a bike ride from Kaitoke. Thanks again for placing the cache.

FTF @ 0700am
I was staying near Cross Creek for a few days before New Year Publication notices for three new caches up the Rail Trail were sitting around for 12 hours before I noticed  I checked next morning and still no FTF's  Being so close I could not resist having a crack so early breakfast and got #1 by 7am The remaining two followed during the next hour Great After almost 4 years I now have 4 FTF's! So lovely morning nice cool shade and all down hill now back to the car Three people coming up the hill What can they be up to? When the cheery call came up the trail I knew there was only one possible candidate Yes the usual culprit on his FTF crusades Yeetrees and also Mrs Y and Ethness  I invited them all for a cup of tea at my place so I  think I was forgiven for being just a few minutes in front today
Thanks GSEL I don't normally get up at this hour!

Up early and out of the house before 7 o’clock. Had thought of going for the first to find on this and the two other caches last night but I couldn’t persuade Mrs Yeetrees nor Yeetrees himself to come over the hill. So instead we decided to get them this morning. Arrived at the car park to find another car parked there. I didn’t think anything of it while I waited for the Yeetrees to arrive. No sooner had they when we were off. I had forgotten what the track was like even though I have walked it three times since 1981. It doesn’t take us long to get away from the magpies noise in and to the native bush area. It GZ we had a bit of discussion about how long 5 m was and after doing a quick measurement using my walking poles we found out that GSEL was correct . Then we found out who the vehicle in the car park belonged to. TFTC.

Was at home taking some annual leave as work has asked me to take some extra leave as I have far too much leave owning, so instead of working though these quiet holidays, I ended up doing a few long forgotten chores around home.

Was in Petone getting supplies when I got a text from Ethness asking me if I was interested in coming over to the Wairarapa for the 3 new FTF caches, well as I was currently doing some shopping at that stage there was no way that I was going to be able to do so, and I also had other things planned for the rest of the day. I asked Ethness to contact Mrs Yeetrees and make arrangements, and when I finally got back home with my supplies, I discussed with Mrs Yeetrees in regards of going for a walk and she was happy to do so, I said that it would be approximately 4K

We decided to meet up with Ethness at the Cross creek Carpark at 07:30am sharp, but as we turned up at 07:15am, Ethness was already waiting under the shelter, Mrs Yeetrees managed to get a safe parking spot and then it was time to load up and start making tracks. Having done this track a few times now and the last visit to this area was just over 5 years ago when I finally completed the multicache in the area, but that was due to multiple visits to the whole trail doing small sections to gather data each time.

After finally getting out of the car and getting all the gear together it was time to start making tracks, I decided to check the nearby vehicle, and had a suspicion and feeling that I know this car and recognised it, I wonder, I decided not to burst the bubble and kept my thoughts to myself.

The walk to the first cache of three that we were after today was going to take about 15 minutes and I could hold my thoughts till then, and it is sometimes better to give the others a small carrot to keep them going TwistedSurprised[xx(]Razz.

Finally arriving near GZ, I read the hint and started making my way up to where the GPSr was pointing and thinking to myself, where would I hide it, as I started making my way back down towards the path, I soon spotted something that needed a closer look and soon realised that it was the cache

Managed to retrieve the cache, and opened to find that the FTF had gone just over 39 minutes and 32 seconds,WinkSurprised[xx(] signed the logsheet and then it was time to return the cache back to where we got it from. Thanks GSEL for placing this extra few caches here and for bringing us to this spot. TFTC TNLNSL (15067). Was sure that this wasnt quite 5 metres from the track unless my measuring stick is a bit too long, more likely 2 to 3 metres.

Now Ethness asked do we continue or go back, I said that we should carry on as we came prepared for the walk to those caches that we had decided to do, so it was definitely worth continuing and the weather was picture perfect so why not......
