Not exactly the greatest day to be out caching... but at least it was dry and not too windy. I had come out to keep working on **WCW - Cache Local Mighty Challenge**... that's 200 Finds in the Whittlesea LGA. I had been at the Yan Yean Cemetery chasing out the Multi that is there... only to work that its GZ was right where a muggle was sitting in their car. I really wanted a Multi today (it's a different challenge) so what to do? Best option was to go for a drive and find another cache in the hope that the muggle leaves by the time I got back. And so it was that I came looking for this cache... totally unplanned... which is why I drove past it by a bout 4 kilometres before I found a place where I could safely turn around and go back for it... yes, lovely and safe place to pull off if you are going downhill! Thanks **famhowe** for this cache... and a reminder of that terrible day over a decade ago.

As a wildlife carer it saddens me to see dead wombats and kangaroos along our roadsides.
We also spotted a micro(wave oven) in the bush nearby.

The cache was a nice quick find, not near the dead wombat.
Thanks for the cache famhowe.

08-Aug-23
Sadly, we arrived here to find a dead wombat.

We also spotted a micro in the bush.
It is frustrating to see people dumping old kitchen appliances along the roadside.
Surely, this area has a hard rubbish collection.

The cache was quickly located and is in excellent condition.

*Found on the 30 Jul 2023 @ 1:15 pm.*
*Cache find # 14875.*

While out and about on the area and needing a few more caches from this LGA, I stopped by this one for a look.
I didn't bother driving through the huge puddle, instead I went for a short walk to GZ where I walked right passed the cache before turning around and spotting the hide, the log was signed and I was on my way.

**Thanks to famhowe for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**

My husband was happy to come geocaching with me today if it also involved some gentle walking, his form of physiotherapy as he is recovering from a knee injury. I planned for us to go to Toorourrong Reservoir and then make our way back to Whittlesea.
We found this cache on our way back to Whittlesea for lunch. There was a large puddle of water across the track so my husband didn't want to drive our car in it. While I was walking the short distance to the cache I ended up covering my shoes in mud. The cache was found, log signed and we were soon of our way again.
Thank you famhowe for this cache.

Find # 12652

Found with Tyred n Cranky.

Take 2
Back in March we didn't finish off finding all the puzzles.
So day 2 (3months later) we back for another drive around the Whittlesea area.

Plan for the day (same as last trip) is to grab some of the caches we missed out on when we were here for the Mega. We have quite a few to choose from, as we didn't get much of the compass done back then.

A couple of premium TOTT on board required for those higher up caches.

Quite the busy road. Gotta love the extra art on the road sign. It gave us all a good laugh.

Find No. 4284. Found with FUF009 at 5.00pm.

Another day trip to Whittlesea to see if we can finish off caches we still have to find in this area.
Three months ago, back in March we done a day trip and found quite a few caches, but we still had quite a few to find, so today we hope to get most of these finished. FUF 009 came with us.

Back then we were in our van, today we are in FUF009's ute, that will go places that our van won't.

The plan today was to drive around and get as many caches as possible within daylight hours.

After completing the caches in the Yan Yean Reservoir area, and the Puzzle for Beginners Series, we continued on out this way finding caches along the way as we made our way back to Whittlesea.

After having lunch at the Community Gardens we then continued on our way getting more caches we had on our list to do for the day.

Well this afternoon we seemed to be doing a lot of double backing getting caches here and there.

Found the cache okay but it was the road sign that took our interests here and gave us all a good laugh. (See photo on FUF009's log)

And guess what - we have to double back yet again to get to the next lot of caches, being our final five finds for the day.

This Event the Whittlesea Mega has been on and off for a long time due to that rotten COVID-19. The sad part is that due to MND I really think this will be my last Mega as I am in the area for a week thanks to my two great SA friends who travelled from SA visiting Ballarat for a couple of days and then moved down to Geelong only to pick me up and we are staying in Craigieburn for a week and then they are taking me back to Geelong. It’s generosity like that Geocaching folk are renowned for, plus all the help that I have received in the past few days which I will be forever grateful. We logged this guy (19/11) while we were in the area in November, after one of the many events. Thanks famhowe for placing this series.

We found this cache today on our Whittlesea Wander as we continued to complete some of the other caches that we had missed on our previous three trips up here. A quick drive up the hill for this one. Thanks from D & HA B-A

A quick grab for us while we are finishing off the Whittlesea compass series. It was good to have a nice place to pull off for this one. I’d hate to attempt it with all the traffic barrelling down the hill!

The little fellas loves the find!

01-Dec-22
We were able to pull off the road when there was a break in traffic. There was a large pool of water between the car and the cache, but we were able to negotiate our way to GZ where accurate coordinates led to a quick find of a good sized cache. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks for placing the cache here.

Returning to the area today with some unfinished business. For some reason, I didn’t get much caching done last weekend.

My first find for the day. Couldn’t drive all the way up to it due to the partially flooded entrance. But a beautiful day for a short stroll.

Today we cached the TWC with our friends from Canberra. Unless otherwise mentioned, all caches were found quickly and easily.

Whittlesea Mega Trip Day 4. The second day of the Mega was a day for a whole bunch of Canberra cachers get together and make a mass effort on the TWC puzzle caches and any other caches that are on the roads we pass along the way. A huge effort had been put in by everyone in the team to solve all of these over the past year or so. There were several cars and our full group was Kitty Katch, Joolay, Barb2e, Isopeda, Dt773, Tankengine, Youban, Aquilus, Grayhams, Sol de Lune, LuckL10n, Smitten Granny, Contesta, cosmonaut97, Nibletricecakes, Gliss!, Fitzy_1965, MinnieK & I. We signed each log as WCCG - Whittlesea Canberra Caching Group. After grabbing a coffee at the on site vendor, we headed off and started tackling caches. There were some very rutted and wet tracks, a few trees that had to be cleared and even a walk or two. There were a few highlights, I will mention those in the relevant cache. It was a long tough day, but we made it back for the farewell event and a chance to get something to eat.

Thanks for the cache famhowe

Today was tiring, very successful and great fun. It was a joint effort by the group solving all these puzzles before we came down. Today was the day that we decided to go out and find them all together with some traditionals, letterboxes and multis as we passed them along the chosen route.

As I said it was a very successful day with no DNFs and all logs were signed as WCCG - Whittlesea Canberra Caching Group. Well everyone had lived in Canberra or nearby at some stage and it was great to join up with those who have moved on - without our permission I might add.

Big thanks to all the COs for the placement and maintenance of all these caches that added to the fun and excitement of the incredible MEGA.

The JAMS (JJ52, allister w, mogni, sir_spectre) crew went on a MEGA adventure. We all managed to get a 5 day weekend so we made the most of our trip out of state. Our main targets were old caches, different LGA's and those that have lots of favourite points plus of course the MEGA and all the caches put out in celebration
Thanks to all those who have placed, hosted events and kept all the other caches alive for us to find.

29,005. Found with minniek during our Whittlesea Mega Adventure Trip. Alternatively signed as fitzy & minniek, F65 & MK, MAFS, WCCG or similar depending on who we were with at the time.

Day 4 of our Mega Trip. After three great days of our trip this was to be the biggest day plus heading home. The Canberra Region Cachers gathered for coffee and food before heading out to tackle the TWC, Letterboxes, Beginner Puzzles and anything else along the way (and there were a lot). Next cache of the day. A quick find at GZ. Signed the log, replaced the cache as found, then headed off to the next one.

quick find
The JAMS team ( JJ52,Allister w, Mogni, and sir_spectre minus mitchell&hound ) we where out for there usually monthly caching adventure. This time it was to Victoria for the Whittlesea Mega. We left thrusday morning and came back monday We targeted as many Vic LGA's on the journey there and back plus trying to get some extra's around the " melbourne CBD ". A few letterbox D/T's that don't exist in S.A. where stamped and selected D/T's in victoria for our fizzy grid only using victorian caches ( 11 to go before this trip for me ). Where possible old caches where targeted in the missing LGA's ( 2000 or 2001 ) or caches with high fav points. This filled holes in some of the teams Jasper grids. The recent rains caused localized floods that caused a few road closures that slowed our team down and meant we didn't get all LGA's targeted, we where also slowed down by the parks that have turned in to marshes with the rain. Also one tree was climbed which was a record low for the team. It was good to catch up with some teams we have seen for many months or a year or two at the mega and meet some new teams as well.

20-Nov-22
The JAMS team (JJ52, allister w, mogni, sir_spectre) have hit the road again, this time heading to the Wittlesea Mega event caching along the way. We had various goals that we wanted to achieve on our 5 day road trip concentrating on old caches, LGA's, unusual D/T combinations and caches with lots of favourite points. [^]

We covered a lot of ground and had a fun time touring around Victoria. We also really enjoyed the Mega and caught up with lots of people, some we hadn't seen for quite a while. There was plenty to see and do at the showgrounds and we managed to fit events, labs and the maze while we were there before heading out to find more caches. Big Grin

We were lucky with the weather, which turned out to be much nicer than what was forecast and we were able to get out there and find the caches we had targeted. All in all a great 5 days. Cool

Today we stayed around Whittlesea finding as many of the TWC caches as we could and others we came across on our travels. Big Grin

Thanks for the cache famhowe. Smile

For anyone making Geo plans, do yourself a favour and visit Australia’s only current Geotour at Ballarat while it lasts: https://www.geocaching.com/play/geotours/ballarat-victoria

And for anyone that can travel to Longreach, Queensland, late September 2023, Google “QOGM” which is the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster. You’ll have at least 8 or 9 days of pure geocaching fun with around 200 like minded people attending a mix of events and access to over 200 geocaches placed by the QOGM team. It’s not a Mega, it’s better.

#16920 - 10:03:00 AM; Up early and on the road with Sol de lune ahead of a full day of caching planned for today. First stop was the showgrounds to officially check-in for the Mega and meet up with the rest of the Whittlesea Canberra Caching Group (WCCG) before we set off to collect a couple of power trails (TWC and Beginners) plus the Showtime multis and other caches along our planned route. All caches were found without incident (although at times the antics and efforts of our interpid cachers were rather amusing), and they were all in unsurprisingly good order given recent maintenance runs by the CO's and helpers. All logs were signed WCCG to evidence our visit. Apologies for the largely generic logs. TFTC opted-out user Smile

Chooo ooo [Found] with dty73, youban and a whole bunch of other Canberra/ex Canberra cachers on our Whittlesea Mega trip down south! We had dedicated today to collecting as many of these caches for which the puzzles had been solved prior to the Mega (and a few others) ... After last night's storms and much rain, it was lovely to see the sun again today! Mind you, almost everywhere we went was flooded, and it didn't take long for our shoes and pant legs to be completely soaked! Some lovely caches/locations amongst these! Signed as WCCG (Whittlesea Canberra Caching Group) - Thanks heaps for the cache!

Saturday and still so much to do around town, in the hills and in the adjoining districts, where to start. I will say that despite the changing weather conditions every 9 minutes, this has not dampened my look on this area. It is fantastic and such a great little main street and with so much going on. A plan was set for today and with my caching buddies off we went, chasing caches all over the place, a very busy day. There are some fantastic views from up in those hills. We got in some great caches today and covered a very large area of caches, thanks to all who put these out .

We started with some of the challenge caches and some multi’s, a drive around the area finishing some labs and then a check again to see where to next. We managed to get in some events as well and check in for the event. OH MY So much to do. Thank you.
This was a quick easy find.

Day three caching together as TQ5 (Team Queensland Five) chamad, Willis007, nikid1, KerriMG and Snickersallan.

The amazing Maze was next then off to participate in a very wet CITO, collect some more beaut TWC puzzles and a few trads. The afternoon was spent at the geo shop, a very fun Puzzle Room adventure, another Event and finally the long awaited magical fireworks display topped off this fun filled day.

The way the GPS was saying the Yea part of Whittlesea - Yea Rd gave us some amusement tonight as we were out caching so it was definitely a YAY to be out caching

Thank you all famhowe for the cache

A trip from Canberra, ACT to Whittlesea, Vic with a few side quests for LGAs. TFTC.
Was parked in the potential flood area at Yea so decided to head to high ground. Ended up being too high in bad winds. Still trying to find a place to park for the night.

Day two of our Whittlesea collection effort.
We have solved all the Whittlesea caches, but had not gone to find any. As the Mega is quickly sneaking up on us, BettyBoo3747 and the geodoggies and I decided to drive out to Whittlesea and collect a few.
The roads were quite busy for a weekday, and apart from the 400ml square containers most caches were in reasonable condition. (all the 400ml's we emptied out!)
Thanks for maintaining this great series.

A nice trad on our way around Whittlesea. Never realized this was the Yea road.
Thanks, Robmc.

#20463. Day 2 and we headed back for more smilie faces. With the Mega less than 2 weeks away Robmc and I decided to head out to Whittlesea and surrounds to sign off on many of the puzzles we have solved and collect a few others that popped up on the radar. The scenery was beautiful and fortunately there were no DNFs. My total was 58 for the day. Unfortunately, as so many others have mentioned those square 400ml Sistemas seem to need emptying every time a cacher visits and this is exactly what we did at each one. Found 26 caches today.

Lots of water to make our way around to reach GZ. We have been looking at the ridge of burnt trees from all angles on our drive around today. Retrieved two TBs that were in the cache.

Thanks famhowe

After attending an event in Mernda, we headed to Whittlesea with Crustyvarmint and his 2 geo dogs, Sook & Pilot, to try and pickup as many of the TWC caches as time and weather permitted.

As we were in the vicinity, we took the opportunity to look for this cache. We overshot GZ, then needed to travel a couple of km’s before we could do a U-turn. Not a quick find, but we got there in the end.

Thank you famhowe for placing and maintaining this cache.

While finding some of the TWC caches nearby, Knight_shift and I headed up the hill to log this cache too. While I was stumbling around in the scrub, looking at places where it wasn't hidden, Steve managed to find the treasure.
Thanks famhowe.
