Kolour and I organised a long weekend in Canberra to catch up with the lovely Domskys. Of course there was much caching to be done!We couldn't find this cache, thinking it may have been caught up with the recent fire through the area.

03-Aug-24
Im visiting Canberra from Brisbane with Willis007 for a long weekend with the Domsky duo, our wonderful guides, targeting mainly oldies and challenges. This is my first time geocaching in the ACT.Domsky dropped us off near the top of Black Mountain, then we enjoyed the walk down, finding many caches along the way.Unfortunately we didnt find this one. The area has been badly burnt. We had a good look but nothing.

Recent burn offs have damaged the area around GZ, potentially taking this cache with it.

Signed last time in Canberra...but Hello Canberra anyway. Wondering if there might be a few new caches to be found in this part of town and what a nice surprise. A big week ahead with the MEGA and the NFF over Easter. In between all that may get to see a film and do some MTB. Managed to get a free hour today to ride over here and pick up these challenges. Lucky me discovered geocaching in Iceland and has had a few trips to meet some of these challenges quite well. Thanks for the series. Love this reserve too.[Ronice88](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=Ronice88) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8V772/52173 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did.-25m to 0m - 65 finds 1m to 25m - 1485 finds 26m to 50m - 1214 finds 51m to 75m - 1223 finds 76m to 100m - 701 finds 101m to 125m - 514 finds 126m to 150m - 573 finds 151m to 200m - 1292 finds 201m to 250m - 808 finds 251m to 300m - 588 finds 301m to 400m - 737 finds 401m to 500m - 615 finds 501m to 600m - 726 finds 601m to 750m - 593 finds 751m to 1000m - 125 finds 1001m to 1250m - 66 finds 1251m to 1500m - 103 finds 1501m to 1750m - 125 finds 1751m to 2000m - 42 finds 2001m to 2500m - 8 finds

Visited GZ today to sign this challenge which I finally qualify for. Unfortunately the recent burn offs have affected the area around GZ. The whole location had been burnt out with a small fire still smouldering (see photo). No luck finding the cache here.

31-Mar-24
We qualify for this one however, due to the recent fire and patrols in the area checking for spot fires we did not attempt to find.

Physically found and signed 1st July 2023.I was one range short. 1751-2000m ... and turns out nothing like that in Brisbane! So when planning a return to Canberra for Mega I was keen to nab a specific cache in the Brindabellas that ticked that box for me. Which we did on the Saturday morning. A lovely little drive up the hills. So with that in hand, PGC now concurs I qualify. Woohoo! Thanks GreyHams for entertaining me at this location.Cool *{Overall find #12411}* Cool

Decided to tackle the Black Mountain walking with ilook4geo despite the back burn having happened. On our route we saw 4 parks vehicles and 4 parks fire trucks on patrol. Cachers and muggles were still out and about there. We found most of the caches we looked for but a couple had been destroyed by the fire. This is another one that looks to have been a fire victim. Thanks for the placement go to GreyHams.

Took a walk today around Black Mountain Nature Reserve with goingplaces2. Found some caches but others looked to have been burnt. This one was in a burnt out area and was not to be found anywhere. TFTC.

Thank you GreyHams for creating a well-written challenge cache for me to enjoy, challenge caches are my favourite type of geocache, and they have kept me actively involved in the game since 2012!I enjoy using them to plan my adventures, and 'cache smarter not harder '.I sign them off whenever I can, and once I get back home and find I have qualified, I will submit a second log with the relevant supporting evidence. TFTC indeed!

During our weeks trip with Bare Foot Guru, Infoferret and Trinity to the Canberra Mega we logged as a combination of "BFG, CF, BIC, BITC" depending on who we were caching with at the time. The trip took us on a flight to Melbourne first, then a drive to Canberra, followed by a drive to Sydney before flying out again. Where possible I will add commentary to each find about the cache. Thanks for all the caches, hides and effort put into hiding and maintaining them.[CrystalFairy](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=CrystalFairy) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8V772/52173 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did.-25m to 0m - 242 finds 1m to 25m - 2650 finds 26m to 50m - 1052 finds 51m to 75m - 662 finds 76m to 100m - 406 finds 101m to 125m - 412 finds 126m to 150m - 289 finds 151m to 200m - 428 finds 201m to 250m - 305 finds 251m to 300m - 224 finds 301m to 400m - 397 finds 401m to 500m - 181 finds 501m to 600m - 77 finds 601m to 750m - 88 finds 751m to 1000m - 101 finds 1001m to 1250m - 136 finds 1251m to 1500m - 464 finds 1501m to 1750m - 386 finds 1751m to 2000m - 52 finds 2001m to 2500m - 4 findsFound in a burnt tree about head height.

The Adelaide Leap Day Mega and Canberra Geobash gave me a great excuse for a road trip. This trip has shown me so many new and interesting places as Ive chased LGAs, oldies, challenges, interesting D/T combinations, rarer cache types and favourites.Meeting up with friends old and new along the way, we sometimes cached with them and sometimes alone but always had a great time. Today we took a hike around Little Black Mountain, enjoying the solitude and perfect walking weather as we found as many challenge caches as we could and anything else we passed along the way. A nice variety of mostly achievable challenges, the hides were all found after a short search. We enjoyed our time exploring this area as we went from cache to cache and will check if we qualify when we next get the chance. Thanks to the CO for placing and maintaining this cache and adding to our enjoyment.

I know I do not qualify for this one yet.Today I had a plan on grabbing a variety of caches and all with a varying degree of types and difficulties. There is a great number of caches with special attributes and d/t's around town. For me it was an early start and I first took off to grab a cache and a virtual after I had fueled up at the local servo. I then raced off to grab a few more before I had to meet up with my caching buddy of the day Grannysmith. We had a huge day and a lot of laughs, there were few stories to catch up on and some great caches.Logs were signed and caches replaced as found. Thanks for the hides.

6 months ago, during a frenzy, we said to ourselves "why not going to the mega in Adelaide for the leapday". From scratch we moved on to preparing an 18-day project in Australia. Our objectives are simple, visit a small part of this immense continent while validating a few caches. There are so many caches (impossible to do everything) that we will select. Our plan will allow us to visit Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Mount Gambier and finish in Adelaide for the famous Mega.During our stay we will log PestiHoot for Pestinette and Blackhoot.Arriving in Canberra this early afternoon, we visit Black Mountain through the caches. We will come across kangaroos, iguanas and spiders (a little scary). The forest trail is very pleasant. The coordinates are very precise, so we will do it flawlessly. Thanks for the cache and the discovery of beautiful or original spots[pestinette](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=pestinette) a utilis [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8V772/52173 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") pour voir s'il/elle tait qualifi(e) pour ce challenge et il/elle l'est.-25m to 0m - 79 finds 1m to 25m - 1441 finds 26m to 50m - 1179 finds 51m to 75m - 591 finds 76m to 100m - 557 finds 101m to 125m - 844 finds 126m to 150m - 719 finds 151m to 200m - 1736 finds 201m to 250m - 1021 finds 251m to 300m - 899 finds 301m to 400m - 3184 finds 401m to 500m - 2018 finds 501m to 600m - 1343 finds 601m to 750m - 1367 finds 751m to 1000m - 1030 finds 1001m to 1250m - 409 finds 1251m to 1500m - 90 finds 1501m to 1750m - 93 finds 1751m to 2000m - 11 finds 2001m to 2500m - 3 finds

Spent some time in the black mountain preserve picking up mostly challenges and some others. I found bushwacking in Australia interesting here. The vegtation isn't thick but you always have to keep your eyes up so you don't walk through massive spider webs. I saw a couple spiders that were close to golf ball size ... Don't have anything like that back home. Thanks to all the COs for hiding these caches!

And it's day 3 of chasing Canberra Challenges. Today, my own challenge was to meander around Black Mountain, finding all the challenge caches along the way, with a few Trads thrown in. It was another Epic long walk, but again, l loved the scenery. The weather was perfect for hiking. This was one of the challenge caches found and signed..CHALLENGE ACCEPTED...qualifying log to follow in due time. My GPS here was challenging me

My first ever visit to the ACT and with a few hours of spare time on both the Saturday and Sunday I decided to target the many challenge caches in Canberra. This series caught my attention especially since it combines my geocaching hobby with my other hobby, hiking!I parked near the suggested location and set about finding 20 caches, knowing that there were three more in the area I didnt qualify for and will possibly never qualify for.The whole process went very smoothly. Thanks to good coordinates, clear hints, sparse vegetation and nicely sized containers I was back at the car within 2 hours!Continuing cross country and a little uphill, I arrived at the next cache.Since I enjoy mountains and finding higher altitude caches, I will leave my series FP here.[*Cache_or_Check*](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=*Cache_or_Check*) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8V772/52173 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did.Finds per elevation band-25m to 0m - 181 finds1m to 25m - 1186 finds26m to 50m - 697 finds51m to 75m - 344 finds76m to 100m - 186 finds101m to 125m - 188 finds126m to 150m - 111 finds151m to 200m - 164 finds201m to 250m - 112 finds251m to 300m - 145 finds301m to 400m - 289 finds401m to 500m - 221 finds501m to 600m - 76 finds601m to 750m - 38 finds751m to 1000m - 22 finds1001m to 1250m - 11 finds1251m to 1500m - 2 finds1501m to 1750m - 4 finds1751m to 2000m - 5 finds2001m to 2500m - 9 finds2500m and up - 4 finds

This was the second reason for caching out on this part of Black Mountain this afternoon. Another bush bash from your last cache. I'm not sure that I found this cache exactly where it is supposed to be, but I have signed it in a small space but I know that I don't qualify yet. I will log a smilie for this cache when I do qualify. TFTCC GreyHams.

Not qualified. Two elevation bands to go (and they are the hardest ones!). Look forward to someday getting up there to qualify. All good with the hide. Yes!
After signing this one, quite some time ago, and not qualifying at the time, we are chuffed to finally get there.
It was a recent trip to Mount Kosciuszko and some of the other high peaks in the area that got us over the line here.
We had some adventures under clear skies with little wind before the winter chill and snow set in.
Our adventure was not without some incidents, as Mr Domsky had a fall just before the chairlift near Thredbo Top, but after a bit of careful bandaging and some surgery, he is good to go, and we now qualify.
Geocaching is a hazardous game!
Thanks Greyhams

Sims_family and Dromaniax are on a huge journey that takes them from home in Geelong, Victoria through NSW to Canberra then back through NSW to Goondiwindi, Queensland and then across to the Gold Coast. All towing a massive 12x8x7 foot trailer fully initially loaded and very heavy.

A day in Canberra on the way home without the trailer was a welcome relief allowing to be able to get to some key caches that we were after

Loads of challenge caches were signed so I am initially putting notes on them all to work out what I actually qualify for.

I will log any later as I qualify for them.

Thank you GreyHams for the Challenge

We continued today our tour in ACT, AUS, and thereby searched, found and logged this interesting Mystery-Cache.

The weather was - said in one word – simply best. The good hidden caches and the being on holidays kept us the whole day in a good mood.

The cache had good coordinates, and thus was easy to find. The logbook was okay, and allowed easy logging.

Thanks to GreyHams for the generation of this nice cache Getting High Challenge (with the proper agenda), for leading us here and for showing us this funny location as well as the ongoing maintenance of this cache.

Today was my last day in Canberra and I was picked up nice and early for a caching day with The Green Geckos. She had a plan of caches to collect and I was just following along. It did not matter where we went as they are all new to me, lol.

First was an early start and drive up to the Telstra tower. Here was a virtual and a couple of challenge caches and around a ways was a whole series of challenge caches. We signed the logs where required and answered questions or took pics where required.

We meet up with the Domsky’s and walked a trail for a nice rainy walk. Then we proceeded to grab a few fun tree fishing or tree climbing caches. It was then a final event of Roddyc’s before a drive to the airport. An adventure lab and a virtual awaited me there. There is So much to see and do in Canberra.

What a beaut morning we’re having while walking in this reserve. Made it up the mountain and now on our way back we stopped and found this cache.
The log sheet is full both sides but there’s room along the sides which is where we signed.

Some interesting looking trees nearby too.

Will need to check if we qualify for this challenge.

Thank you.

I went up early to walk this trail before it got to warm. All caches were found pretty quick.

Found on a very rewarding walking day on Black Mountain with 34 caches, 32 degree forecast, many KMs, lots of path changes and lots of going up and down hills! A tiny of bit of bush bashing from the previous cache, but doing so on Black Mountain is easy because the bark is crunchy and soft, and there's no thick bushes. Coords very out for this one for me, by at least 11m, but with the hint I wasn't here for too long. Cool tree. TFTC GreyHams!

More and more countries are now opening up for traveling. I took the opportunity to make a short trip. To visit some places, I’ve been visiting a long time ago. To see if anything has changed but also to find some caches. Maybe also meet some fellow geocachers. You see, the world consists of two kinds of people: Your friends, and the ones you haven’t met yet. And I was lucky to extend my list of friends during my trip.

When I arrived yesterday evening, it was raining and someone said it was going to rain for another 10 days. But when I woke up this morning the sun was shining. I rushed out to look for some caches. Soon the sun disappeared and it was cloudy. But luckily no rain. I was out for a couple of hours. Met nobody.

I fulfill the requirements for this Challenge.

Day 3 of our election raid on the nation's capital with purplepeopleater and bella at waggy. After an exhausting day collecting the last of the UFO series on Bullen Range yesterday, we started the day at a more leisurely pace.

Our last group of caches saw us zig zagging all over Black Mountain before heading home after a very successful caching weekend.

Thanks anyway, GreyHams Smile

Signed with catnap777 on our "challenging" Easter assault on Yass and Canberra. Cool

Targeting so many of the challenge type mystery caches this extra long weekend, we came home with a huge haul (figuratively speaking) which will take some time to sort through. Having so much success with both the Yass challenges and the UGC, it was now time to pull on the hiking boots and give this lot a go. Razz
We signed about a dozen of the high quality hides in the time we had with this series, and all were found in good condition. [8)]

TFTChallenge AngelG27. Big Grin
Our next challenge is to sort through all we have signed to discover what we qualify for and what we have to aim for. [^]

Signed log with dalerious on an epic Easter challenge chase, starting in Yass and continuing on in Canberra. This is our first trip caching the area and to say we had a ball was an understatement Big Grin. We achieved more than we conservatively had on our starting list Smile. Thank you GreyHams for providing these challenges for us to work towards.

It was a hectic day heading to Mt Buller to get the webcam and also a cache at the summit. This meant I finally can claim the cache I missed out on claiming FTF with Kittykatch as I needed one more elevation. Thanks for the challenge GreyHams. I had a great time (long time) aiming for this cache.

I'm currently on a Yass/ CBR caching blitz for a few days. Here in Black Mountain Reserve now to grab some of these new(ish) challenges.

The little trail between this one and the previous cache *[It's all a Mystery to me Challenge](https://coord.info/GC919VG)* was great but the light was starting to dim now so I'd better keep moving. SL at 8.07pm and so our names are now in the log. Being a challenge cache, this is how we qualify; we qualify with three loops:

Cache 8164 on 21 Oct 2021.

Signed this challenge last month and then set about planning to get the last altitude needed to cross the finish line - not the highest altitude but the second highest one!. Opening of the reserves a couple of weeks ago meant I could target one particular cache - challenge fulfilled! It was fun morning mission with TikvaNZ and SpecimenX.

Out to maximise my exercise time on a lovely spring morning by wandering over a fair swag of Black Mountain with Fox in Jox. I found the last two of the flag series of caches on Black Mountain and signed the last challenge which I still need to do some work for. Good exercise, great weather, excellent company!

Signed the log for this challenge, but still have one altitude range to get… ! A challenge indeed during lockdown!

This one took a bit of trekking to get to and then a bit to find it. It was in the obvious spot but it took a couple of looks to find.

That cache blends in so well. I looked here, there, even in the hide and felt in there too, failing to find a cache. I thought this was to be a DNF, but decided to check some places again, and there it was, blending in. I signed the log. My GPS was out about seven metres. However, I don't qualify yet, needing 1501m to 1750m & 1751m to 2000m. Then I headed back to my car in the failing light. TFTC GreyHams.

This weekend from 17-21/06/2021, I joined georode and gridge98 in visiting our nation's capital, Canberra for geocaching adventures. We prioritised the higher difficulty-terrain combinations, as well as the more special/unique cache types.
On Thursday, I largely spent the day solo and visited Black Hill lookout, the Botanic Gardens, Australian National University and nearby Canberra Central, and then gridge98 and I walked around the front of Parliament area in Parkes.
Friday was spent completing a few hikes in Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve and Kowen Escarpment Nature Reserve, before then meeting locals at a Friday evening dinner event.
Saturday was predominantly the UFO series in Bullen Range Conservation Reserve, targeting the higher terrain ridge area.
On Sunday, we arose to the morning's CITO event, before returning to Goorooyarroo Reserve for more walking around those hills.
Finally on Monday, gridge98 and I headed north to Yass for the Birds of Australia Wherigo series, a few climbing caches, and returning to ACT completing the UGC series.

Today, I took ownership of our rental car, with my aim of heading to the lower Black Mountain challenges. However, I was lured by the virtual cache at the top of the mountain, and so that became my first stop. A short jog around the hill, and then great views at the top of Telstra Tower.
My next visit was the Australian National Botanic Gardens, completing the *Australia's Garden* and *The Rainforest Walk* Adventure Labs. It was then on to the challenges around lower Black Mountain, spending a few hours walking around before the rain fell later in the afternoon.
My afternoon was then spent touring around Australian National University whilst following a few more Adventure Labs: *ANU*, *Everyone's a critic!* and *What's in a name?*. I then had a walk in downtown Canberra and visited Glebe Park completing that *Glebe Park Wander* Adventure Lab.
After dinner, gridge98 was grabbed from the airport, and we explored some of Parkes in front of Parliament House. A few more virtual, wherigos and Adventure Labs were completed, and we made one last stop at the National Carillon.

All up, the walk in this area detouring past all of the challenge caches and a few extras took about 2-1/4 hr. I quite enjoyed walking around this area, and most geocaches didn't take too long to find, including this one, which was a logical hiding spot. The cache container and logbook were in good shape, noting that the cache wasn't tethered here. Thanks GreyHams for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

Day 5 of the Canberra adventure. It’s the last day, but won’t be leaving until after the RAAF fly over and some more challenge caches.

Signed the log today - making notes of all the challenges I’ve signed and will begin the work to identify the gaps to quality once the trip is over.

Walked past this one three times

Thanks GreyHams for the cache.

23,499. Finally qualified for this one !

I found this cache on 3 July 2020, but was missing the 2,001m - 2,500m range, so I only did a Write Note. After doing the walk up Mt Kosciuszko recently I have now qualified for this challenge - awesome !

Thanks GreyHams !!

Pretty stoked to be able to finally log this one!
Been only missing the highest band of elevation for a very long time.
Thanks DARKSIDEDAN for dragging me up Mount Kosciusko and pushing me out of my comfort zone to log not one, but 10 caches in this new band of elevation.

Signed the log on 24/06/20: (https://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=af71f9cd-57a0-4766-a19b-512480ea5f52)

After our recent mission to collect a few easy multis, Sol de lune and I headed out today to collect some of the newer caches around the northern end of Black Mountain, including a batch of challenge caches. I thought I'd qualified for this one, but alas I'm one short (1751 - 2000m). Log signed and will claim the find once the pesky final altitude is logged! TFTC GreyHams Smile
