Find number 14501 at 9:05:52am on Monday the 21 October 2024We're on our way to WA Goes Big, travelling from Croydon (Melbourne, Victoria) with a caravan in tow and making a leisurely caching holiday across the Nullarbor and back.Well, WA Goes Big is done for another year and we are on our way home again now, via Perth, Kalgoorlie and the Nullarbor but slowly over the next five weeks SmileToday we headed off from Whyalla on our way to Peterborough via Port Augusta grabbing a few more local geocaches as we go.Wow, it was interesting getting in here with a 21 foot van, now to get it turned around [8)]**Thanks for placing this cache alex**---*WOW, so much happening at home in Victoria*Dont forget to log your will attend for Victorias first ever Block Party in March 2025, the [**The Sunbury Event**](https://coord.info/GCAP417).Theres also all those lists of amazing geocaches at [Geocaching Victorias List webpage]( https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/information/great-caching-lists), go check them out.

On a big adventure from Canberra to Esperance and back to celebrate a year of good things (Happy Birthday Krispystrips). Today was day 7 of our journey and we woke to a flat car battery in Port Augusta. After a jump start from a kindly neighbour we were soon on our way caching and exploring through Whyalla, Cowell, Port Lincoln and setting up camp in the National Park at September Beach. Pleased we were able to pick up 4 new counties on our way, and this cool oldie! Another great day with Porkchop72, Krispystrips and GLISS! Thanks for the cache.

09-Jun-23
The JAMS team were on a road trip to Kyancutta for the JLWEvent and we had a few target caches, Virtuals, Adventure Labs and other random caches that we passed along the way.

Decided to come into the park and find a few caches before heading in to Whyalla and our accommodation. Made a special stop to come and find this oldie.

Thanks for the cache Alex. Smile

Another great old cache of Alex! Didn't take too long to walk in, nice and flat and easy going walking around the little bushes. Lots of choice of logs but opted with one of the originals. it did have a new container but really does need a regular size container here to fit the existing logs into ideally.

GreyHams and myself set out on a three day SA caching trip after a super early start to the first day. The best start really though as by 9am and two planes later we had landed in Port Lincoln and into our rental car ready to set off! Local Government areas were our primary target, although many others of interest made the list, oldies, types and DT... Each offered some unique and often spectacular location, if your cache made our list, thank you!

Day 1 saw us landing in Port Lincoln and caching our way up towards Ceduna, a long but productive day saw us driving into Port Augusta just on dark a solid 12 hours after we had set off on the road.

Day 2 and we made the drive north from Port Augusta where we were based for the trip. The scenery on the drive to Roxby Downs changed often from little salt bush plains, shrub, salt lakes and to the amazing vast flat and empty, I loved the vast flat views... always spotting something in the middle of all the nothingness. Emus featured in huge numbers often, red dirt appeared... something I have been seeking so it was great to see it and finally get my feet into it all! Back into Port Augusta we set off for a loop in the south of the Flinders towards Quorn and out to Orroroo before returning just as the sun set to collect the last pizzas just as the shop shut for the day.

Day 3 was our last but just as full, although we only needed to get to Port Lincoln for our plane home late in the day we had many caches of interest plus a few walks along the way so took most of the day to make the distance leaving the odd cache off as we watched the clock!

Each day was full of such varied scenery, all quite stunning in their own way and led to a very enjoyable and fun trip. Thank you for your cache that guided us through the area and helped to highlight some of the great locations we got to visit.

Nice little walk through some interesting scrub. The drive in was a lot worse than the walk

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aquilus1 & myself on yet another caching mission into South Australia, this time it was to go out west to collect all the LGA's out there.

This area of South Australia is so interesting as you can drive and be in a completely different planet within an hour. Red gums, to mallee scrub, to saltbush, to nothingness and then back again!

STarting and finishing in Port Lincoln, but with Port Augusta as our main base we explored the Eyre Peninsula, east out to Ororroo and north to Roxby Downs. It was a short but fun little trip. Thanks to all the CO's for placing caches

Away for a few days with Featherwaite and Team Astro.

The plan was to get all the whyalla caches as well as the FTF series and the FITG caches.

Nearly got them all, just a few left for next time.

A pleasant walk from the track to this one. It was early on a nice morning.

One last day for now around Whyalla, the steel city, home of the rusty mint tin...
and found a few clever caches too Cool

Another day of exploring places we otherwise may not have been!

Came to your cache along the way CoolBig GrinSmile

Kept walking on throught the hot terrain and found a guardian by the cache remains.
Had a small spare with me, so placed that and new log by the remains of the old cache. Should keep it safe and going for a while. Worth preserving an old Alex original !

Much thanks to alex for placing and maintaining this cache on our SA geo game map Cool

---

Searching with Purrfect Di and Jack the Monkey, finding and signing cache logs alone or with family and friends using some or all of the resources of GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife), Whereyougo, Garmin Montana 750i, Montana 680t, Etrex 35, Samsung S21u, Samsung S9, with Geocaching App, c:Geo, or Geooh Go, and Android Auto and other maps... or often with just plain old dumb luck WinkCoolBig Grin Plenty of that luck stuff actually!!!
*Logs are composed and published using GSAK of course.*

A couple of maintenance assist tasks on the trail caches too. Looked like there had been some extreme weather since we were here last... oh yep, the floods the day after we left!!!

---
Caching is a hazardous activity!
Keep a lookout for sand traps, snakes, surprise cliffs, boxing roos, wombats, bulldust, and floods,
try not to get tetanus from rusty mint tins and don't fall out of trees...
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- but especially lookout for any old bugs from alpha to omega !!! . [xx(]

Try to keep Travel Bugs as the only bugs you share and pass on Big Grin
Now everything's opening more - even more important to sanitise and safely distance!!!

Really good of all those placing quality caches out and about around the countryside areas,
in sensible safe places especially! - it keeps our game safe, fun, and interesting Cool

Thanks heaps for reading all this addition to the log word count! There's a challenge somewhere, apparently! You win a virtual smile for the effort and getting to the end of the log Wink

Out on caching adventures on the Eyre Peninsula with Wollaston.

Saddled up for a long walk with hat, sunnies and water, had a lovely walk in the warm wind and arrived at gz not too bothered by the buzzing locals. We found the container but discovered the condition is not good.

Contrary to a previous log, the outer container is shattered, and inner container has a hole in the lid and generally fragile. Contents are in good condition.

Perhaps a Good Samaritan could help with maintenance here and drop a new container and keep an oldie in the game?

Thanks to the many hands and minds taking time to set out and maintain hides and for showing us your special part of the world

After checking recent logs, we didn’t take a spare container. That was an error on our behalf. It would be great if one of the next finders could bring a 1 litre container as a replacement to ensure the longevity of such an old hide. Trekked in with SeasonedBird. It’s a great day for caching. The Non Wangaratta Event Tour 2021! Razz
Covid has postponed the Mega in Victoria until January but leave had been granted for AnyMules to attend with me and Bushfire. So Anymules and I went on a tour to Eyre Peninsular and mid north South Australia instead whilst Bushfire joined us in spirit only as covid meant he couldn't come here either. Big Grin Not needing anything for my yearly goals I hoped I didn't add too many to the DNFs [B)]Cool

Day 3: Exploring around the outskirts of Whyalla. Cool
Anymules had already found Mulga Madness so after we walked to Tumbleweed Connection he returned the geo mobile and drove around and walked into Park View. [^]
Meanwhile I set out on foot cross country to Mulga Madness and then onto Park View to meet up with him again. Razz
The cache was easily found at GZ.
What can I say. I really enjoyed my walk through here. CoolCoolCool FP from me. [:X]

Only one of the three goals from last year achieved. Twisted So once again trying and fill my calendar with multi-caches and complete loop 11 again this year. [^] For my third goal I will try and get my DNF numbers from over fifty to single digits. Cool That should keep me busy again this year! [:o)]

***Thanks Alex for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. *** Big Grin

Full time nomads since 2013. Still tootling around the country trying to avoid Covid hotspots.

Back in SA for harvest work. Heading to Port Pirie but 4 days ahead of schedule so a quick detour to Whyalla was in order. Headed out early today with lunch hoping to convert some Sad to Big Grin Not altogether successful, but still managed 39finds from 41 hunts.

Mr Felix did the walk here but the container needs replacing. Current broken container is a 1lt sistema. Mr F didnt carry a cache out there as there were no logs alerting the condition

On a road trip around the Mid North and Eyre Peninsula, geocaching as I go. Predominantly targeting old caches, solved mysteries and grabbing some interesting looking traditionals.

Madness indeed- only geocaching would get me walking 600m across this scrub for a plastic box.

Good fun and memorable due to its age. A favourite point from me for keeping this oldie alive.

Thanks for the cache Alex.

This weekend, I headed to Whyalla to catch up with a few other Geocachers and attempt some of the trails there. On Saturday, we targeted the FTF power trail from Whyalla to Iron Knob, and then spent the evening and the subsequent morning driving some of Whyalla's back tracks. On Sunday, I visited Cowleds Landing and back north, only to get severely bogged in one of Whyalla's clay pans. I then returned home via the August series.

Today, I joined hevwalker and scramping with our goal to complete the FTF power trail. We got 75% through before taking a break for lunch in Iron Knob, and then completed the remaining geocaches, finishing in the early afternoon. We then visited the new Whyalla circular jetty, and then had dinner at the Eyre Hotel geocaching event. Finally, we headed out for a quick stop at Whyalla Conservation Park, and then headed around the tracks around the levee finding miscellaneous geocaches, all within a nice and balmy evening.

This geocache had been one of my main targets this weekend, given its age - An oldie 05/2001 hidden cache. I think it is also my last cache to find to have found South Australia's oldest 10 caches too. We decided to come here after dinner, and just as the sun was getting low in the sky, we headed inside Whyalla Conservation Park, only to discover that the park was closed at night. We had a discussion to whether we would have sufficient time to drive in, make the walk to GZ, and get out before it got dark, and with the forecast for a severe fire danger the following day, total fire ban day and possible park closure, we decided to make a quick dash in to complete the cache this evening.

We drove in and parked as close as we could, of which it turned out to be a 660 m walk for us each way. We did wonder about this geocache's low terrain rating, and likely that was just the rating of the day, but in my mind, this geocache's terrain is probably worth a 2.5 rating. We walked in and looked out for the golden orb spider webs that were hanging in the various tracks between bushes, and eventually arrived at GZ. Unfortunately, the cache container is rather broken, but the logbook was still in good shape. Thanks Alex for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

Found on our Whyalla holiday with hevwalker.....Davidwazza had joined us for a fun day of caching..... we had been able to get the FTF powertrail completed, lunch in Iron Knob and a few extra caches done and a lovely meal at hevwalkers event before heading to this cache which Davidwazza had told us about....... a special oldie (05/2001) that was a must to get whilst we were in the area. We pulled up at the gate......Conservation Park gates closed at night was the message that we were welcomed with......The sun wasn't far off setting we pondered whether or not we had the time to get to this cache before night fall we even checked out the gate to see if there was any signs that it was closed regularly. The next day was a fire ban and we wouldn't be able to come in so we decided we would get this one only and come back to get the others at another time. We drove to the nearby pullout that we could use as a parking area and began our trek of 660m with torches in hand...... dodging orb spiders and keeping eyes out for any wiggly things we were sure must of been around somewhere, we powerwalked to GZ in good time........The cache was found quickly, sadly the container is rather broken but the log book was n good condition. We quickly signed the log and headed back to the car to get back to the entrance hoping they hadn't closed the gate.....All good....My aim for the day was to beat my previous record of 106 in a day.....yes...smashed it thanks to my friends. TFTC

After a big day caching the FTF PT with scramping & Davidwazza we pondered at my dinner event whether to do the Whyalla CP park...we headed out...the sun had not quite set when we arrived but by the time we parked...walked the 660m in avoiding the orb Weaver spiders and their webs...found the cache and walked out again the sun had definitely set and the gate was still open...
Thank you for placing this cache for our enjoyment, alex...it is nice to get an oldie off the list (12th oldest cache in SA, May01)

Found during a caching trip to Hiltaba, the Gawler Ranges and Whyalla with e.gregory1 for a few days. On Day 1 we traveled to Port Augusta and Iron Knob then camped out for the night near Lake Gairdner. On Day 2 we arrived at Hiltaba with the main objective to tackle the caches on Mark Bonin Peak 'The Lookout' and Mt St Mungo before traveling through the Gawler Ranges. On Day 3 we drove to Whyalla then camped out nearby for the night. Day 4 saw us return back to Adelaide, picking out a few selected caches along the way. Targeting a range of cache types (Traditionals, Puzzles, Earthcaches, Multicaches, and Letterboxes), a multiple of cache attributes, and a wide variety of Difficulty/Terrain combinations resulted in an entertaining few days with cool weather and great scenery. Thanks for the cache in a very scenic conservation park Alex!

Travelling through from the west decided to stay overnight to find a few caches in town, headed out to Whyalla CP for the afternoon, after finding Tumbleweed Connection we continued our stroll to Mulga madness, eventually we arrived at the correct mulgas and found the cache with a cracked lid, next cacher may need to bring a replacement container, was nice to get another of our older cache placements off the list

Today we went further west. We were able to search for and find one or the other geocache again. The highlight was GC178, a geocache that is still needed for the Jasmer Challange. But ALSO GC997 was searched and found. Thank you to the owners for laying and maintaining the cans.

Found at 12:26 PM GAFF1.
We ventured into this park just to do this cache as it is one that we are targetting - ie one that is still active and was published before we started caching.
Didn't realise that there were no tracks - what is it with these early caches - really tough to get to and a measly T of 2.0!!
Actually we enjoyed the journey and it didn't take too long to get to it at all the way that p-pprass managed to do it.
Thanks alex

With the sun getting low on the horizon and a cool breeze blowing, I filled the hydration pack and loaded it in to the backpack ready for a short 700m walk through the scrub. It was a lovely evening to do so and the time passed quickly as the metres diminished. At GZ I quickly spotted the earlier container and was worried that it was all busted, but I was glad to find that the new container was present and all in good order. Great to have one of the only two May 2001 SA caches finally ticked off the to do list.

Thanks for the cache alex.

Today I travelled from Port Lincoln to Port Augusta. There were so many caches along the way, especially around Whyalla, that I had to be very selective. I chose Silo caches (in the vain hope of finding some Silo Art), caches with a large number of favourites, and them some random ones to fill in the long stretches. I'm not chasing a Jasmer or Ausmer challenge, so I don't know if I need this, but it's good to collect some of the old interstate caches. Nice walk in and out.

My thanks to Alex for the cache and keeping it alive.

This cache was found today and brings our overall cache find tally to 10061. We found this as part of our 2018 Round Australia trip.

This cache had been on the cards since we left home, it's an old school cache and fills in a gap in our jasmar grid. Nice to make a quick find.

Thanks alex for the cache.

I noticed this old cache when planning a trip to Port Lincoln with gridge98, so we made the minor detour and short walk to find it today.

Thanks alex for the cache.

19-Sep-18
On my two day trip to Port Lincoln with e.gregory1, we stopped everyone and again to collect some target caches along the way. Majority of the trip was based around collecting puzzles and LGAs. Unfortunately we hit a kangaroo not too far past port wakefield but car is a bit dented.

This one is so old so why not get it, a nice day to walk through the low shrubs to get to this one.

Today's focus was to clean out Whyalla Conservation Park - I had a successful day finding all but one cache in the park. The variety of caches and vegetation, some enjoyable walks and great weather for mid winter made it a very enjoyable day.

Yes, in this country I'm happy to take a long walk in the bush, but a short one will do. A very brittle cache was quickly located at GZ. With all my caching gear in Adelaide and working in Pt Augusta means there weren't any replacements in the car. A needs maintenance note has been posted.

How do you define madness?? Is Alex mad for dragging a cache into here? Is sushilord mad for chasing the cache Alex placed? No and no. I really enjoyed the walk and my first sightings of Wild Dog Hill.

Thanks for the cache Alex.

Day 5 of Barnzy and Cravo’s trip from Perth to Adelaide.

Today we travelled from Whyalla to Adelaide via a number of country towns.

We started bright and early just before sunrise to pickup a couple of caches North of Whyalla that had some high favourite points which had tickled our fancy.

We then moved our attention to the FTF power trail, which started just out of Whyalla and took us all the way to Iron Knob. Found a good variety of difficulty and terrain combinations along the trail, with some interesting hiding spots. There were a couple of DNFs and caches that took a while to find which stretched out the time taken to complete the series.

We eventually made our way to Iron Knob and picked up the couple of caches around town which were quite nice in a very small mining town.

We were pushing the time factor quite hard, so skipped a fair few caches, but had to stop in at Port Germain to grab the aptly names Port Germain cache, which filled in a spot on the Jasmer grid, and its where I rolled my ankle running back to the car which made things a bit difficult for the rest of the day.

The other main target for the day was the Postman Pat Letterbox Hybrid Series, which were great quick finds of nicely sized containers.

We left the LBH trail and made our way to quickly check into the accomodation and made our way to our event in Lights Square “Sandgropers in the City”, which we made it to exactly one minute before it started, but a good sized crowd was already waiting to greet us, which was really nice as it was at last minute we had the event published.

It was great to finally put some faces to names we’ve only seen in logs, in particular the SA legend Freddo and TeamAstro. It was very interesting learning of the large scale model of the solar system, of which we had found one of the caches on the Nullarbor on our way over.

After bidding farewell to the event attendees we grabbed a bite of food and walked around the CBD caching, with mixed results.

another target cache of this trip due to its age and i need it for my jasmer grid. Nice walk out here but at 35 degrees maybe not the best time. no snakes sighted ( yet ) quick find.

08-Jan-18
Wanted this one for it's age. Was encouraging the rest of the family to grab it when they were over here a year ago for a funeral. They were keen to make a good start for the long trip back, so skipped it. Was back visiting family on Christmas holidays, so made a plan for shorter travel days so that could grab a few key caches.

Took the back roads from Whyalla, until we hit the train line opposite the speedway & was forced back to the bitumen. After appropriately crossing the railway tracks, we made our way back to the speedway. (Incidentally, this was where I first saw Monster Trucks in real life 30yrs ago.) Headed out to the cache then made our way back to the other bitumen road & then onto Port Augusta. TFTC. Looks like the container has been replaced but currently in reasonably good condition. Thanks to all who have helped to keep this cache alive.

****Official MILESTONE 8000 **** Although my real count is much higher including GCA finds and other finds.

Pprime (P'), Fangsoki and I had planned a long weekend assault on South Australia caches. We were targeting old, rare, unique and interesting caches.

We were on day 3 which would take us from Adelaide to Whyalla and back in 18 hours for 17 finds.

This cache was on our hit list for its age.

We had left Adelaide at 6am and this cache was our ultimate target and we were running out of daylight and still had caching to do before we arrived back in our digs in Adelaide. It is going to be a long night.

The vegetation on this area is something I have never seen before and we found it easy to pick our route through, around and over the mulga.

A well hidden cache at the end.

This was find 36 of 54 finds for the weekend.

Three Mad Queenslanders (Fangsoki, Crew153 and I) have arrived in Adelaide for a long weekend chasing old caches. This is day three and we are heading North. Well, West to this one. Our furthest pint from the motel - and it is all but sunset now. For some reason we were expecting to park at the base of a hill with a few hundred metre climb. It's not. The road is indeed the best approach, but the hike is through, well, Mulga - lots and lots of it. An amazing countryside (we don't get this in the tropics). You could get disoriented in this if you weren't a little careful - the GPSr helped. Quick find at GZ in a somewhat different spot to its surrounds. Took in the silence (except for three old men's puffing and the trample of dry bush underfoot) and the beautiful setting sun. Now to drive back to Adelaide.

Thanks for placing this cache, Alex. Found in good condition. And a FP for this place.
Cool *{Overall find #5418}* Cool

Pprime, Crew 153, and I were visiting South Australia with a primary target of getting some old-timey caches.

Sick of us yet, Alex? Razz That's what you get for putting out great caches years ago and maintaining them Razz

This one, hands down, was my favourite cache of the whole weekend. I had never stepped foot out into this country out here. And I have to say I am so glad we made the effort.

We parked up the car about 550m from GZ and made our way across the scrub. This kind of territory is not something I am used to and I was amazed by the area. We zigzagged our way to GZ. We had different ideas of which we way to go - but it doesn't really matter out here.

We finally neared GZ and we found the prize. We signed the log and returned the cache as found. We headed back with the sun setting next to us. I am very pleased to count this cache as my 7500th find. Thank you for bringing us out here, Alex - and thank you for maintaining this cache for others to enjoy over the years.

Geez talk about a late log, I had a feeling I had missed a few but have never had the time to go back, I try really hard to log them as we go but sometimes reception, data and time just don't play nice. Anyway because of the Pandemic I find myself with plenty of time to go through and correct logs, a very nice EC CO pointed out I hadn't logged one of his and from there I have found a few others missed.
This was a target cache, found on an afternoon after a log drive, I remember finding it because hubby was cranky about 'having to find it'.
Anyway TFTC

I drove half way across Australia to get this one. No. Not really we were heading across this way on holidays but this one is my closest one that I need to fill a blank month in my Jasmer.
It was close to sundown when we arrived so after parking in the car park it was a quick dash for the cash.
Easy find once at GZ

This was one of two caches that were our target for today, the only remaining 2001 caches on Eyre Peninsula that we hadn't found Big Grin.
Stopped over on the southern access road and walked the last 600 metres to the cache Razz.
Lots of mulga to pass on the way through and it's all looking really good, thanks to the wet tropical summer we've been experiencing this year Surprised.
Aimed for a likely tree and readjusted our target as we got closer [8]. TNLNSL.
Thanks Alex, great to find these historical caching sites Big GrinCool[^] - but what the hell were you doing out here in 2001 [?].
Swung around and had a look at the battlements of Wild Dog Hill before heading south past Whyalla, then over to the west and the other 2001 cache Smile.

After setting up camp the night before with 3LG today we are hoping to locate as many caches in the area as possible before meeting up with The X-Trailers.We headed out towards The furtherest and worked our way back.
A great day weather wise to be out finding caches.

After a good lunch we set off to grab these ones which we drive past everytime we visit Whyalla, it was very nice to be in here and the weather wasnt to hot or to cold, it was just right for doing some cacheing and walking. TFTC

Nice to see a 2001 cache still in play - & it was great to complete it as well – a big thanks - TFTC / TFTH / SL

A little more of a hike into the bush for this oldie that's still going strong here, but the scrub isn't as thick as where we come from down in the deep south so all was good. Thanks Alex.

Find #7330**

Maintenance complete.

Day three of the Nullarbor experience was here. This morning, I left the convoy of Alansee, Maccamob and Mica Paramedic and headed out solo for a few days, heading towards Port Lincoln for the night.

Whyalla Conservation Park was the next on my list, The main one I wanted to find here was the 2001 Cache and Australia's first intercache.

As one of my main targets, I really like to find the early caches of Australia and this one certainly qualifies. I noticed the maintenance was required, so I took along what I presumed would be a big enough replacement. Alas no, so I have placed all the log books safely in a new 1L Sistema and left the swaps etc in the original container.

**Thanks to Alex for the cache. TNLN**

After many years being out here this little cache is looking a little worse for wear. Container lid is pretty UV damaged

Wow, a 5 character GC code.

Alex (squirrel) and I were just about to leave the conservation park when I noticed this one on the map. Due to the age of this cache, it was on the 'must do' list for the trip, so we stopped off for it before returning to Whyalla for dinner with friends.

We parked the cachemobile ~600 metres away and scurried to the cache. Found it nice and easily - note that the lid is broken, but contents are dry. We didn't have a spare on hand, so unfortunately couldn't fix it up for you.

Enjoyed reading early logs from finders dating back to the FTF. Such caching history here! On our way back to the car, we got a message saying we'd won a SAGA award. Yeahhh!

Thanks for the cache Alex - and have a favourite point too Smile

A nice walk to an ancient cache. Wow a five digit GC code. That should help with the Jasmer challenge. While at GZ Bek-theraccoon and I found we had won a SAGA for the 2015 Finska Championship. TFTC Alex

4645 Found by baby&Mrs gopher at 1545. As we drove into the park we could see that the cache was 600 odd meters over there. Went to the parking bays and walked along the track back towards the southeast. The Mrs loves to get out and stroll the hills. Got to within 600 odd meters and struck off towards the hide. Look there is another Mulga tree. We would rather find one cache like this then 10 trail caches. The container is getting the worse for wear. Maybe an ammobox as a replacement as they don't let the water in and last forever. When we arrived back at our vehicle there was another vehicle there with the head lights left on. baby got into the car and turned them off. Mentioned this to the owners and only got a grunt answer for our trouble. SL Tnx alex. Every thing in the cache is very wet.

I had something to prove to the critics of cachers who hunt big numbers. It was a long scratchy walk but it was worth it to log this old cache. Thanks alex.

On a tour of the Whyconpark today, my first stop, or walk was to find this long-lived cache Smile
Having learnt me lesson over the last few days that this is not 'shorts' friendly country, I wore me long pants today Razz
And after a wonderful stroll through the scrub, I found GZ underneath ..... a mulga tree Smile

TFTC and lack of madness !! Smile

This cache is the reason we came to Whyalla Conservation Park, aside from seeing the views that is! Smile
As of today's date it is the 12th oldest surviving cache (after GC996 was unceremoniously archived nearby last month!) in SA and the 2nd oldest on my 'to find' list!
A nice walk through the damp morning dew, and plenty of little spiders not yet packed up from the nights feasting.
We loved the walk, and the peacefulness.

Thanks heaps Alex

A very long walk through the scrub on a nice cool day. We saw two Roos, one of which was huge! Im sure there were others that bolted before we got to them.
Great big cache and everything was dry and in good condition.

Ive been out here several times now, my fav way is a nice ride from one side of the park to the other on the bike, challenging and slow through the rough bush but great fun.
Today though, I only came (by foot) to accompany Kev who is legendary in his inability to read a GPS. I considered setting it running and leaving him to find his own way but knew I'd only have to walk it again when the SES arrived to go find him....if only to get my GPS back..

19th find of day on a caching run to Whyalla for a couple of events with TheKellyGang & Laighside Legends

Always great to find these old caches while out for the day. Took the walk in and on returning met up with a few of the local Cachers on the road before continuing on our way.

oops - didn't read the other notes, but again, girls loved doing some swaps. This was the kids longest walk for the day as it was getting towards 30°C already, and only 9am.

It's been a while since I've been out here and seeing as I had time on my hands and a lovely day for it I decided to do something about the 'maintenance' log I put on this cache.
I like to put rubber spiders and other critters in my caches, now and then I catch someone unawares and get an email to 'thank' me.
I should have known when I picked up the cache and found the lid open.. I opened it anyway. I noticed the huge grey plastic spider..was just about to laugh when it ran up and out of the container right over my hand..
After I stopped running and came back to the cache I placed a new book and pencil as well as a nice new waterproof box. The original book is still there as it has some great comments you should read.

Since it was an Alex cache we just had to do the walk. Found the cache rather wet and gave it a bit of time to dry out (the log was ok). The ants had ideas about invading though, so we removed the ruined swaps, left the OK ones and tried to dust off as many ants as possible, replacing the cache a little up off the ground to try to reduce the moisture accumulating. TFTC. As usal it was in a great spot, but not difficult. It was the journey that was worth it. Thanks Alex
