After this morning's CITO, I teamed up with McLookers to finally finish the BSRT series. During each visit to Ballarat environs, I took the opportunity to walk more of the trail and slowly reduce the numbers left. We also grabbed a few other caches nearby. Nice quick find here. Thanks to McAdies for the cache.
Parked within 150 metres of GZ and walked down the rest of the way. The youngest monster made a quick find before we had a rest on the seat!! TFTC!!
Find No. 4631. Found with FUF009 at 12.45pmA day spent at Linton riding the Rail Trail on our push bikes and finding the caches in the area we haven't yet found.FUF009 came with us.Before lunch we rode towards Ballarat for about 10ks and got 25 caches. After lunch it was off riding the other way towards Skipton for about 5ks. This way we only had three to find on the trail and two around the town. All up we done a total of approx 33ks and found 30 caches. It was a warm day but very pleasant riding and finding caches. The Trail, we found to be very well marked and well maintained. It is one of the better trails for riding your push bike on.We started at the Earth Cache and worked our way to the end (BSRT Galatea Road) then worked our way back to the start from the Earth Cache. After a well earned lunch we headed off the other way, towards Skipton, to find the three on the trail we hadn't yet found. Sure is a climb riding this way especially after having lunch. Another cache where we went by the name of it and didn't refer to the hint. It pays to read the hint when they are available. Eventually found it and signed the log, then off we rode to the next one.TFTC McAdies
Find # 14375Found with Tyred n Cranky.Headed to Linton with the bikes on board to tackle some of the Ballarat Skipton Rail Trail caches. We looked at the caches earlier on and had a short ride planned. Then a couple of days later we noticed a number of others just published.... well that kinda doubled our ride effort. An early start on the trail. We rode the BSRT from Linton about 10k toward Ballarat then back. Had lunch then rode 5k toward Skipton n back. found 30 caches on the trail for today's efforts. It got warm, as expected, plenty of water n snacks, only 1 puncher in our small group, but still a good ride.Lunch had n back on the trail..... boy this is a long up hill stretch. Another one where Tyred n Cranky got here before me and had it found as I pulled up. TFTC McAdies
Found by Mary and David at 11:30. Tried to reduce the length of the walk, so drove along Tweeneys Road. Achieved the shorter walk, but had to negotiate a couple of fences instead. Our thanks to McAdies.
On our way to Portland from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Needing to tick more of this series. Entered via Linton School Plantation on the dirt road which hubby was happy to use the 4WD modes of the car. Made the short walk to GZto the BSRT Water Point cache before walkinon the other direction to sign off this cache. Thanks for the series.
Found at 10:55 AM GAFF1.Nice and quite today with a slight drizzle. Thanks to McAdies
A beautiful morning for a walk with the kids and the dog. Love this trail. Just wish it was closer! Easy find. Thanks for the fun and adventure!
Next stops on my drive today, and managing to find a little side road, the 4WD got me to within 200 metres. Then a walk and a climb over a fence and I was on the trail. Both the caches in the area were quickly found and I was back at the car in 25 minutes. Still a few to go in the area, but they can wait for the warmer months when the bike can come out.
Thanks again McAdies....cache all good.

The weather is much cooler today so perfect for a walk along the trail on this peaceful morning. It was interesting seeing the landscape change as we wandered through cuttings and pine plantations.
Thanks McAdies for continuing the rail trail past Linton for us and others to enjoy.

Was out this way a week or so ago and was going to find these trail caches while I was here. Then realised how far the walk was so put it off for another day.
Back today with the e-bike to enjoy some bush and fresh air. Cache found safe and well with a little amphibious guardian. Thx McAdies FTC.

Didn't know where it was at first but then I saw a stump and looked in it and it was under a rock in there! It was a nice walk and first one I found.
A stroll along the wet bsrt this morning to tidy up 3 caches since my last visit.
Not a soul seen and this cache and its 2 mates were found in good order and quickly thanks to spot on coordinates and good clues.
Thanks McAdies

We have headed to Ballarat to attend doctor appointments and in our spare time head out to areas that we have not cached in to find the many geocaches that have popped up in the forest and other areas around town. Most of the roads were acceptable, some geocaches were on walking/bike riding section which hubby hiked on and I drove the car and would pick him up along the way. All geocaches were found and were in good condition. SL TFTC

Off to a great start for 2022 - a day of finding interesting caches such as this and catching up with fellow cachers to "Kick Start" the New Year in Beaufort!
Great to tidy up a couple of green spots in our BSRT collection.
Satellites today had our GZ 9 metres west north west of where we found the cache.
Thanks McAdies for placing caches in interesting locations for everyone's enjoyment.

**NOTE:** A palindromic find for us.

A quick find in an obvious spot: some you win, some you don't. We did not stop to rest on the seat, kept walking towards the car.
With geo-socials back on the cards I made my way north to Ballarat for the Smythesdale CITO over the weekend. I then stayed in the area for a couple of days exploring mines and revisiting the BSRT rail trail.
Back on the bike this morning I covered several sections of the BSRT. I had tried to get onto the trail from the bridge near Nuggety Gully Mine but there seemed to be no way from the road below. So I drove to Flagstaff Ridge Road and cycled a 7km stretch around here for 4 caches which included 3 brand new ones like this one. Maybe not brand new as FTF was taken but pretty recent as I was only the third finder.
The cache was found quickly, with a surprise Tomstache pathtag in the container. Yeah, I took it!
It's great that someone has placed this seat here, but I do wonder if anyone actually stumbles along here and makes use of it. No sitting took place during the visit to this GZ. Nothing to do with Covid or any social distancing - it's just that I'm here to cache and there's more to be found along here. I hope the lonely seat didn't take offence.

Day #13 of the Birthday Bush Bonanza. I arrived in at Smythesdale late last night, rolled out the swag and settled in for a well earned rest. The plan today is for a slow journey back to Melbourne. The series of challenge caches and maybe some rail trail is all that is on the list… so far.
So I was laying in my swag and thought I’d better plan out my route for the day. As I refreshed my map I spotted some new FTF caches. Surely not? Published yesterday and not found yet?
I jumped in the car and left the swag behind. I didn’t have a bike, so in the unlikely event that the FTF was still up for grabs, I had images of a Lycra clad hunter from Ballarat or surrounds passing me at the final 100m to beat me too it.
It felt like it took forever to reach the cache, but was more like a few minutes. Checking all sides of the crisp clean log…. Bingo. Something to be said about being in the right place at the right time (and a whole lot of luck). No surprises that the first cache of the day is already a diversion from the plan!
Thanks McAdies for the cache and for contributing to the game.
