Day 2 on my Geo Toroa Mega trip. Team effort with Kiwicampnut and MacpacMumWet, but so far not as bad as I thought it would be. Took 3 of us looking, then we read the hint! The solve was much easier. Thanks for the cache Wilbywarrior# 4005 26 October 2024 4:06 pm

Leading up to the MEGA in Dunedin, there was much puzzle solving. The wet weather today did not deter us.we got into a pretty good rhythm. The logs were signed Aussies on Walkabout or AoW. Caching today with Feathertop, Sol de lune and LuckyL10n.Thanks for placing the cache Wilbywarrior.

26-Oct-24
Headed over from Australia with LuckyL10n, McLookers and feathertop and once in Dunedin we set out for this series. A lot of fun and a bit of misadventure all at the same time, but a good time was had by all, despite the rain. All logs were signed as AOW (Aussies on Walkabout) and all those found were in good condition. Many thanks for the series Wilbywarrior......

#21189; Day four of the GeoToroa Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune and our better halves. After a couple of nights in Queenstown, arrived in Dunedin yesterday for the Mega weekend. Today started with the Mega Opening Event and a nearby LBH before we hit the road with McLookers and feathertop for the Aeroplane series, followed by some challenge caches as well as a few in the Albatross series along the way as well. The weather was not kind with steady rain as well as the occasional heavy shower as we made our way around some interesting terrain, including some quite wet, steep and slippery dirt roads. Logs were signed/stamped "Aussies on Walkabout" or "AoW" on behalf of our group and then returned as found. TFTC Wilbywarrior Smile

26-Oct-24
I was caching this trip under the Aussies on Walkabout banner. All logs signed as such. The group this morning had Mclookers, LuckyL10n and Sol de Lune and feathertop. The plane series had been well solved many months ago.Couldn't have had a worse morning for it. Constant rain and wet muddy roads but we found all but 2.Many thanks for setting this up for us all to enjoy during the Mega...

There had been quite a lot of puzzle solving going on around the top of the South Island in preparation for this trip to the Mega event in Dunedin.I had hoped to finsih finding this series but after talking to some other cachers from the top of the south, they advised us not to attempt the caches that are not on the flat roads as they are not suitable for our motor home (some of the flat roads were a bit tricky for turning around in. So we were disappointed but grateful for their advice. We will have to come back again and maybe rent a vehicle suitable for finding the rest of this series. Thanks for placing these caches and thank you for the smiley.I do apologise for the copy and paste logs, but I am not creative enough and there are just too many finds to make each log different

I went out caching today with Marchwood and AlunB. We made it a point to get all the caches in this series along with a few others along the way. TFTC.

What an incredible day it was. This morning Kittykatch, Joolay, barb2e and I cached our way to the airport. Here we met up with Binliner to attack the Plane/Jet series, which we had solved before leaving Australia. We found every cache that we tried for, and this was one. The logs were all signed CCD (Canberra Cachers Dunedin). Unfortunately a couple of us forgot what day it was and used the incorrect date for a while, but once we woke up (literally) that error was corrected. A huge thanks to all the COs for placing and maintaining these caches. You add so much to our game. ??

Down for the mega and today was the day to complete this series and of course some additional ones!! We had a couple of puzzle solving evenings to make sure we had them all ready to go. Thanks for the cache. Signed as Team SEAC (South East Auckland Crew)

Day eleven of our epic New Zealand Adventure with The Morris.Today we spent around Dunedin. We spent the morning doing some of the Plane Geo Art, had lunch at Outram, then returned to the city to do some of the older caches, with a few others in between.Finished the day with the event, and Indian take away.I think the highlights were the ones on Allanton - Scroggs Hill Road, the views were spectacular.A long run along a well made road, with a nice collection of different hides and caches. We saw many other cachers at work along this part of the trail. We were joined by DB at #06 and she cached with us for the rest of this road. Thanks, Robmc.

We are in Dunedin this weekend for the Mega with Stik-a-Crane, UncleSam, KeyLev, and NZTravellers. We have signed all logs as team SEAC to save space, especially as we know this weekend will be busy for all caches. We have landed, picked up the cars and the plane geoart and any other trads, multis, or puzzles we have solved are the targets for the day. We have had an amazing time and had very few DNF's for a very successful day with lots of laughs and memories made.

Day dawned fine and dry after some rain through the night so was looking good for our plans for the day. A great morning spent collecting all our solved puzzles for the plane. Started at the airport with Smittengranny after meeting Binliner off his flight and then we teamed up with Joolay and Kittykatch. Had no problems with most of the finds and certainly enjoyed a few stops at the Outram cafe. Caches signed as CCD for Canberra Cachers Dunedin. Thanks for all the caches in this Geoart and the extras we collected while on the roads.

With a MEGA in the pipeline, a group of us Marlborough cachers set about solving the Airplane, Albatross and other challenge caches in the area. This is one that one of the others solved. After travelling down yesterday, a 12 hour drive from Renwick, this was my first full day here.Finding this series in order would have taken too long so to keep my OCD under control, I can sign them off in order, all on the same day. This is where I left the geomobile and took a ride on geocycle-m v2.0. Easy find here, although I was momentarily confused as the log I found had no other names on it despite two others finding since replacement. On my way back down this road, I stopped again and found out why. The old container was still here and I had signed the new one. So, I took the old one and returned it to the CO later tonight at an event.

Back home in Taranaki after a massive 5 days at the Dunedin Mega with MrMuggleNZ and its time to start logging my findsall 226 of themso wish me luck. Only 2 DNFs the whole time we were here so thats a testament to the dedication of the local cache owners and their maintenance prior to this event. Got bitten here by a thorn here! Almost had to sign my name in blood. TFTC

Found with NZDi on our southern adventure heading for the Geo Toroa. Earlier in the year a group of us Blenheim cachers started solving puzzles around the area in preparation for this weekends Mega. The aircraft geo-art was part of that project. Today, with NZDi as driver and recorder and myself as navigator, we made the attempt to clear them out. We started out just before 10.00am with a DNF at #58 which didn't bode well for our mission. We finished all we could around 5.00pm. We are logging in the order the caches were signed. Caches weresigned in full or abbreviated to ND + KM as space would allow. We noted other cachers who logged today and even met up with others (twice). We were impressed with the accurate coordinates, the helpful hints (where given) and the well maintained caches. These logs are going to be pretty generic but I'll try to comment on some of the more memorable caches where appropriate. Thanks WW for the days enjoyment, and the months of work solving the puzzles, you are a credit to the Dunedin caching community. This one took a little longer than most, but not long enough to entice NZDi out of the geomobile. Got there in the end.TFTC Wilbywarrior

cache was missing, replaced. Thorns have gotten worse so best access from the roadside

**29/61/100pt** Clockwise tail Noice easy puzzle to take the strain off the brain. Just tell that to the device as it couldn't tell what side of the road we should have been on! lol. Luckily for the hints, the cache tail was flapping in the wind. 2xRITR logslips dry & ok. Returning the cache took a few goes as the wind kept blowing it around but it got tangled eventually. We have saved these puzzles for wet weekends and solved this one some months ago now. The mood took us today to collect a few we had solved. Somewhat serendipitously, we watch an A320 land while stopped at the runway lights on Centre Road on our way to collect the cache. TFTCFind count: 2581

Cold rain, mud puddles, hawthorn... what are we doing roamin' around the Taieri in these conditions? Of course we braved the thorns, but suffered a bit during the process.

Out and about on day 10 of my South Island Tour and day 4 of "Wellingtonions Gone South: Dunedin Edition" with NZ_B, TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Itchyfeet2020 and matagouri. The target of this day was cleaning up the plane. All logs signed as MINT. TFTC

21-Oct-23
FINALLY, and with humble apologies for being so late, I am catching up on my logging. On the day I was thinking too much about having just found my 10,000th cache.A quick solve using a number system I learnt many, many, many years ago.Day 4 of The Wellingtonians are in Dunedin tour with TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Itchyfeet2020 and matagouri, as well as TaybeeNZ who decided to have a few days of his South Island tour with us. We are targeting specific caches -oldies, wherigos (thanks to the Seagnoids new caches on the Wainuiomata Hill road in Lower Hutt), a certain jet and hopefully a certain bird. Of course, there will be days of laughter, no doubt at my expense ??????.During our time here, all found caches were signed as MINT, regardless of whether 2, 3 or all 5 of us hadn't found it previously, or with individual names for Challenge Caches according to whomever was claiming the find.Kia ora rawa atu for the cache Wilbywarrior.

21-Oct-23
A group of friends have traveled together to Dunedin to collectively target a whole bunch of caches, primarily because of their value in terms of Jasmer Grid filling, or for certain Challenge Caches that we have elected to try to achieve.M.M.I.N.T.T are Mr-Mcgoo, matagouri, Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, taybee nz and TwigNZ. Some logs were signed this way, some were signed as M.I.N.T for expediency, and some (mainly Challenge Caches) were signed with individual names.Day 4, our last day before heading home this evening, and the main focus of our day would be hitting the Plane geoart series. We had no idea whether we would get to complete it today, but having met the CO for a drink last night we hoped we would. This was effectively a quick park 'n' grab. No problems here, so everything was replaced as found once our team name was added to the log.Thank you for putting out this cache for all to find.

21-Oct-23
Day 4 of the Wellywood Adventure to Dunedin. The trip had been in the planning for a while - especially to get Sutton Lake, the Old School Challenge and other personal goals. The backup plan had always been - "lets get the plane solved in case we have time".Turns out today is that day so its great to be here after all the solving, most puzzles solved individually but the odd bit of throwing ideas in was needed Smile Easy find here today, which is good after the last one! TFTC&P Wilbywarrior. All caches signed as Team M.I.N.T.

I had an excellent time solving this series of puzzle caches! Many evenings were spent trawling the internet for information. Itchyfeet2020 and I collaborated on some of the tougher puzzles, until we had the full set ready to go. Thanks for setting up this series, WilbyWarrior.A visit to Dunedin by Wellington geocachers NZ_B, Itchyfeet2020, TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Taybeen NZ, and myself. Signing as Team MINT, targeting old caches, Wherigos, and whatever else we can find. Today, completion of the Airplane series was our goal. Most of these were easy finds, although one or two took a bit more hunting. Usually, the caches were in good condition once found.

(# 8380) The Wellington crew are on another mission. Included are Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, TwigNZ, Matagouri and TaybeeNZ. As usual quite a bit of hilarity. Day 4 was more centred primarily on the Airplane series down towards the airport. Signed as MINT.Thanks Wilbywarrior for bringing me here.

I'm on a geocaching roadie from Whangarei to Dunedin. Geoarts were the main target of this trip.

In Palmy I got 2/3 of a shield and 2/3 of the 20/20 series. Wairarapa we achieved 100% of the M and some archived skindo challenges. Wellington I finished off the kiwi bar 1 dnf. Nelson I got my BGSc challenges. In Christchurch it was family time. Dunedin was another sucess with 100% of the airplane geoart. Then I flew home to say goodbye to my son heading to Denmark.

It was great to have my friend Supernanny come along on the trip for company. We had a wonderful trip and fantastic weather. I'm just finishing off writing the massive backlog of logs.

Todays target was this geoart. I was waiting for a doctors appointment so solved this while I waited and I still had time afterwards. I don't use these notations very often so I'm always rusty. Managed not to get pricked finding it. Thanks again for these puzzles Smile

Getting to this one is a bit spiky. I think we were the most amusing thing the cows had seen all day- happy to entertain the locals! Found with Debsnz.

13-Jun-22
This was a quickly solved puzzle and is another of those hides that it's good to look in during winter and while there might be no leaves, there remains many prickles! After a little blood loss, the cache was found, signed and returned. Found with Spoonz2

29-May-22
Prickly find. Another plane cache completed. TFTC

Solving the puzzle was straight forward but my basic education wasn't strong enough to get the numbers without consulting Google. No trouble with the find.

19-May-22
A mighty effort by Wilbywarrior creating this series and a mammoth task for us to solve them all. This puzzle was straightforward, and the cache a quick find although care was needed. TFTC

On a tour of the area getting some caches for a challenge. All good. Thanks

12-May-22
Having spent some time 'nutting out' puzzles while parked up this week, it was finally time to start picking some up, as well as some trads of course.
I managed to get my left and right mixed up, and then a herd of "moo-ggles" came over to watch me. Nosy beggars!
Thanks for putting this here

29-Apr-22
At Christmas time this bit of Geo-art was brought to my attention. I thought these look interesting and set about solving them, I got down to 3 unsolved before I reached out for some help. Thanks to some feedback from the CO I soon had answers to all of them, it was then time to plan a flying visit South to look for them. I flew in late Thursday and out again at lunch time Saturday. A most enjoyable trip.

Thanks for the time and effort taken in setting them up. Cheers and TFTC

It took me a while to work out this puzzle online. Infact I think I asked for the COs help. It's certainly a lot easier to see what to do on C:geo Thanks for hiding this cache Wilbywarrior I appreciate it.

We were a week into our GeoTour of the South Island when we remembered this plane geoart. We had intended to have a 3 week trip, but then found we could not get a return ferry, so we needed to stay on for an extra week. Perfect! That meant that we could afford to take a trip to Stewart Island - and spend a day collecting this geoart. Only problem - we needed to solve them first! After that our nights were spent busily googling all manner of details about planes.
A nice straightforward solve, and find at GZ today. Thanks.

14-Mar-22
On a quest for another 50 today for my DGSc challenge. Solved a lot of these in the last week so should get me most of the way. Some interesting data on the ones solved so far and the hides a nice variety. Cheers.

With KR. We had frequent stops along this road so by the time we got here, we weren't held up by cattle crossing just before this. Tftc

A nice quick find thanks. Solved a while back in anticipation of a trip to Dunedin. We found most that we looked for, and left the area with a few to find still, and then there is more solving to do before we return!

Ms_KR and I are on a wee South Island break. A day collecting airport puzzles and other caches we passed on the way from Dunedin to Kaitangata. A glorious day for caching!

Oh and some of my earlier caches today might have yesterdays date on themRed FaceRed Face

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Southern Flight Crew are on a mission today to collect the plane art caches. TFTP Smile

26-Feb-22
Easy quick solve as the D rating shows TFTP

Sorted all the puzzles in this series, the majority painstakingly by myself, with a wee bit of all hands on deck for the last few.
Enjoyed every single one so many interesting facts put together, twas a brilliant series Matt! There'll certainly be a few Faves coming your way for the special puzzles which had interesting twists and turns, made me smile.... or near did my head in (worth that though!)
So today a plan was hatched for a roadie to collect as many as possible of this fab well thought out series. Group name of *SFC* (Southern Flight Crew) signed on logs. wombats_4, SearchWisely, mrandmrschosen1978, Mrs Hazzer, Tuitigger, Kiscardi, NZ Bozzy.

The alarm went off at 6, to catch the red eye flight from IVC to DUD, due to depart at 7am from the east gate.
Packed my suitcase, with extra clothing, sunscreen and water.
We taxied towards the departure lounge, before putting the tray tables away, buckling up, and listening to the safety briefing and plotted course.
The pilot said the rain was going to clear late morning with a high of 17 degrees.
We departed about 5 minutes late on flight SFC, cruising speed about 105km/hr and a alltitude of about 2 feet.
We made good time, touching down at Allanton at 9.15, to add a few more passengers.
We made a few stop and starts, lefts and rights, even a small detour with better altitude to find some Kings.
Stopped mid flight for a cheese roll and a coffee at Outram, and a visit to the little boys room. Soon we were on to the tail end and reaching new heights, with a little bit of turbulence on an unmaintained gravel road, destination Everest easily reached.
I had a window seat, so great views once the low cloud lifted, was an enjoyable flight.
I must admit, I didn't solve any, but intend to one day, I just thumbed through the in-flight magazine, with phone on flight mode.
Thanks for the effort put in, and the reason to visit this area.
Stopped for a refuel in Milton, before the return flight, had a few sweets for the descend into Invers.

Straightforward to solve but not so easy to find (some blood was spilt). Thanks for all the work.

Prickly it is. Looked from lots of directions rather than too many prickles and spotted the sneaky hide. Puzzle was an easy solve compared to this.
Thanks WIlbyWarrior for a fun series. Just grabbing a few I need for a licence challenge.

When these puzzles first came out just before Christmas I immediately set about solving them over the Christmas and New Year period, but I also set about making a plane - er, plan - to grab all of them in one day. Today was the day and, after putting the call out, pilot K.J.R. and flight crew Guwapo came to join in on the fun. Though I'd solved and verified every puzzle, sadly we failed in our mission by just one cache - verified with the CO as being missing at the time. Otherwise, we enjoyed the mixture of caches and I enjoyed the mixture of puzzles.

I'd had some unrelated communication about the solution method with the CO, and he'd pointed out a flaw in my working so I'd questioned myself on this one. Got the green light when I swallowed my pride and fed it through the checker.

Cheers!

So a few weeks ago CJ-Curry puts out the call on the tannoy for anyone wanting to do Wilbywarriers aviation series. A few messages, checks of diaries, and a date was penciled in. Papa, with the help of Guwapo at times, managed to solve a over half of the puzzles before take off.

Papa and Guwapo joined the other flight crew of pilot K.J.R and navigator CJ-Curry for a six hour training flight around the plain and neighboring hill. 61 take offs and landings with only one DNF.

Number fifty one on the journey!! Normal transmission continues, another straightforward find, back on auto-pilot.

Please excuse the generic logs, this was a great series, plenty of very interesting puzzles and lost of information and factoids discovered. Thank you Wilbywarrier, maraming salamat!

A plain a plane a plan YES! a plan was made a few weeks back to try and knock this series off in a day. Solved the majority in just under 24 hours with a few hints here and there from one of the team. So today CJ-Curry, Guwapo and I went for a Sunday drive and we were oh so close...with 60/61...a couple of PAF'S resulting in just 1 DNF = a great team effort and a fun day had by all. Our selected route had us buckled in and then disembarking in just under 6 hours with not too much turbulence at all!

Another straightforward solve and easy find to match.

Thank you for this cache Wilbywarrior and all the other caches in this Plane Series...the time you have spent creating and placing them I really enjoyed them all - a couple (ok maybe about a quarter ) certainly had me pulling my hair out!!!

Cache found on a 3 day caching adventure across to Southland and Central Otago. What a most enjoyable and informative series of caches. Spent many hours solving the puzzle caches but still have a few more difficult ones to ponder over. Cache all good. Many thanks for the cache placement maintaining the caches. TFTC

Found on a mammoth caching weekend with Troodles, StreetWalkerNZ and Mrs KC. Apologies for the delayed boilerplate log, I was waiting until I had solved most of the puzzles before logging.TNLN. TFTC.

#20647. Happy to let KC get stuck in (on all fours if I recall rightly) and find this one. TFTC.

Found with StreetWalkerNZ, KiwiChris and Mrs KiwiChris after lunch in Mosgiel as we attempt to find as many of the new airplane geoart as possible on a warm and sunny Dunedin day.
GZ looked a bit daunting but KC got stuck in and crawled under. He knew he was in the right place when he spotted the stash note on the ground and looked up and spotted the cache. All good now, TFTC.

Didn't see these until after dinner last night, by the time I'd solved a few and was wondering if an FTF run was on the cards I saw Natalie's logs start coming through so spent the rest of the evening solving a few more with a view to an afternoon raid today. Managed to find a majority of them, including a{FTF} here.
