With some tree climbing events on today, EthisEthat headed out to grab some caches in between times.I'd gathered the coordinates for this one on a whirlwind trip with Loci612 some months ago and had just about forgotten it until EthisEthat and I were in search of a bakery and EE mentioned the final was nearby. Our slightly expensive (but quite nice, all things considered) pies were purchased from the bakery across the road and we visited the picnic tables here to consume them. With the only muggles in the area having moved along, the pole was extracted from the back of the car and I got to retrieving.A few near-misses in the slight breeze, but eventually I got it hooked on and the cache came back to earth. My name was added to the logsheet before all was replaced where we found it (which EE remarked was potentially a little lower than he remembered it being - although nonetheless required the full extension of my 10m pole). Thanks to Rapidlywild for this multi! Smile

Toy Hunters and I went on a bit of a TOTT run today as I've recently acquired a nice little stash of some more commonly required TOTTs. I calculated the solved coordinates for this not too long ago but hadn't had a chance to get out and grab them all. This one was TOUGH! It was so damn high! I tried to give myself some height elevation with the ladder but that made the angle too difficult so that plan went down the drain. Toy Hunters was very doubtful the pole had the height, but a saying that's been thrown around a lot recently came up again "let him cook". Full extension of the pole and full stretch for me and down it came! Log was signed and then it became the task of getting it back up, which was slightly more difficult but was achieved fairly quickly all things considered! The cache was returned to the same impossibly high branch as we found it (neither Toy Hunters nor I would have settled for anything less). Thank god for no wind otherwise, this would have been a lot harder! Thank you Rapidlywild for the cache fav point from me, I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!!

Found with Scaphoid on Reconciliation Day to do cache maintenance and get various TOTT caches all around the place! I wasn't confident that the TOTTs that we had with us today would work for finding this cache, but we decided to check it out anyway. I wasn't confident at first, but with Scaphoid's persistence, we had the cache retrieved and replaced (in the same spot) in no time! Amazing work, I think that's all the southside ACT Art multis ticked off for me now! TFTC RW!

TFTC Rapidlywild your cache ACT Art - Woden Flood Memorial that we found today. The Canberra Mega is over and today is our last day of caching in Canberra. We went out with Wollaston and MeAndDe .We had a target list of caches to find and this was one of them.Find Count: 19555

03-Apr-24
Today I headed out with Wollaston and HansandLinda to pick up just a few of the great caches hidden around Canberra before the party ends and we all head our separate ways. We started with some more of the UGC challenges, headed for a few Id wanted for D/T ratings, then some interesting finds around Duntroon and finished the day with a few challenges we hadnt been able to reach yesterday. We found this one on the ground and put it back as high as we could. Thanks for find #6077TNLN

Found while attending the Mega and out with HansandLinda, MeandDe. found this one on the ground but replaced about 11m high which seemed to match the previous logs. A great day out. Another great day for caching. TFTC Rapidlywild

#7621Its MEGA time once again, this time in the Capital! Day 3!Another day caching around Canberra! Having an awesome time just grabbing anything and everything! From the tippy tops of trees to the tunnels underneath the cities, well see what we end up doing end copy paste Found with EthisEthat and GHHH!Now THIS is a treefish... We spotted it easily, just sitting on the very edge of the stub, we weren't getting it easily without extra elevation though. We got the ladder and slung it to the tree, then Dad put a harness on and slung himself to the tree at the top of the ladder so he could do some no-hander action, and after some negotiation with the 9m pole and the 5m ladder, the cache was down! Already broke the tip of our new pole off, god dammit! Either way, no more whippy bits! Signed then replaced as found. TNLN SL, is also our qualifying cache for the Tree Fish Meister Challenge! Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache Rapidlywild

#7621Easter Saturday and the day of the GeoBash... We hung out with EthisEthat and GHHH for most of the day touring Canberra finding a bunch of multis we solved yesterday, plus a bunch of other gems, with a lot of tree-fishing. Another glorious day weather wise too, we've been very lucky so far this weekend. This was our toughest tree-fish ever. I needed to stand on a ladder with a 10m pole at full arm stretch, after breaking the end off our 13m pole trying to lift the fish off the branch is was wedged into. Thanks for the cache!

30-Mar-24
That's high! Needed quite a couple of TOTTs to get everything together but we only had one pole break so it's fineeeeee. Thanks for the help of Team737/GHHH. TFTC!

30-Mar-24
Damn that was very hard. Super high. Had to use ladders, slings, harnesses and multiple poles! That was a very fun ordeal. TFTC!

Four years ago, a Bromance team adventure to hike Australia's highest 10 peaks in Kosciuszko National Park was cancelled after bushfires devastated the Snowy Mountains (and indeed most of the Eastern seaboard). We finally returned to Kosciuszko National Park a few days ago and have just spent three wonderful days in perfect weather hiking a circuit around the mountains climbing Australia's 13 highest peaks and collecting all the alpine caches along our route. After a recovery night and a few selected virtual caches in Canberra last night, the plan today is to grab some further chosen caches around Canberra before heading north late afternoon and caching on the way to Goulburn. We had stopped nearby for an excellent coffee and bacon and egg roll for breakfast. Seffnjarah had done the homework with the numbers here and after a feed we wandered over. We were well equipped for this one with a ladder and 13 m fishing pole in our kit, but these TOTT's are completely useless if you can't spot the cache! We spent ages staring into the tree. A check of the logs indicated we were looking in the right tree. There was a pile of branches from recent storms nearby under the other tree, but nothing found in a cursory search there either. Many thanksPete

No luck for us here today after spending 20 minutes fruitlessly staring skywards.

Out with kittykatch, Joolay, and dty73 for a nice friday afternoon of caching before dinner. I had previously stopped to collect the information on a quiet sunday and was waiting for a time to team up with taller people or taller poles. This one challenged us for needing both! We laughed, we cursed, we cheered, we should have taken up the offer from the tree dude in his harness and chainsaw, he came over and jokingly offered to drop the tree for us! In fairness, he also offered to get his spikes and go up, but we persisted. A cool story of how he found a cache once in a tree, and after felling the tree, put it back safely in a hole. Two different totts and the coolest sunnies were our weapons of choice to conquer this. This was a real team effort!

06-Jan-24
Fruday afternoon fun with Joolay, Aquilus1 and dty73. This was the trickiest cache to retrieve today. It took two totts to get this one down and then back up and quite a bit of time. Thanks for hiding this cache Rapidlywild for me and others to find.

25-Oct-23
Couldn't spot it in the tree, or on the ground as others have. Could be there, maybe just not our day. TFTC

Found with The Matetrix and MilesMorales2

Had spotted the cache several months ago but wasn't quite prepared for a successful retrieval. Back again today with TM and MM2 for another attempt. Problem was it wasn't there, and a further 15 minutes of searching bore no fruit either. Looking then at the base of the tree, there it was, resting in the grass.

With the log then neatly signed TOTTs were purposely set up and the replacement, on the second attempt, was finally made. Phew, that was a toughie! TNLNSL TFTC

I had come by here a couple of weeks back and same as Search 4 noted that mine was definitely too short for this job. Not by much as I could tough the cache but enough that i needed extra elevation. I was not keen of the idea to balance on a ladder while working with the pole. Today after work was finally the day to try.
Found a decent spot for my ladder and gor to work. I didn't have to go too high and all worked as well as it could and after faster than predicted I had it down and also back up again (as so often the harder part). I enjoyed the little adventure after all and felt a sense of achievement (this is not an encouragement to put more such high caches out!) and so I will give this one a FAVpoint as a representative in the series.

Thank you Rapidlywild for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

That was certainly a memorable find.

I collected the info quite a while ago and randomly visited on the anniversary of the tragic event. I thought that was a sign that I should complete the find that day. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a long enough TOTT and was on my own.

That TOTT subsequently broke so I bought a longer one. I returned to the GZ (once again also be) and found that it could touch the container but couldn’t get it out of position.

Today I returned (alone once more) with both the long TOTT and an extendable ladder.

I set up the ladder on the uneven grass and went to work. I had to go up higher than expected but went for it anyway. After finally hooking the cache, I noticed that a random dog walking muggle had come over to hold the ladder for me!

I explained geocaching to him as I signed the log and returned it into position.

Definitely a memorable find.

An enjoyable caching afternoon with Goldenwattle, Trodectus and Decrypter. Spotted it but way too high for our TOTT, so went and had a coffee instead.

14-Aug-23
Too high for our rod.

14-Aug-23
We did spot this one eventually. It's...WOW‍...oh my gosh, you are kidding...no you aren't. We didn't have a hope of reaching it. Time for coffee we thought...

Way too high for me!

Don’t let the ladies fool you…size does matter.

Details gathered and coordinates calculated. Parked right next to GZ where the cache was spotted without issue. Just didn’t have what it took to get the goods though, will have to return with a blue pill maybe.

Spotted cache but ToTT waas to short, need another 3 m

We looked high and low and couldn’t bloody find it , even after a PAF , I think it’s missing

30-Jan-23
Half of our team was off walking in the bush with others. So not one for sitting ideal I agreed to go and help the Co with a few placements south-side.
We found a great corridor with some nice looking trees, this one was the first that was screaming for a cache, one can't say no to placing a high tree fishing cache.

Thanks for inviting us along Rapidlywild this one gets a fav point from us for the fun.
Hopefully people can replace this one as found if they attempt it.

Cache 9601 on 26 Jan 2023.

Is there anything more Australian than hanging out with mates, having a laugh, and a bacon and egg roll for breakfast? Can’t be! Fox in Jox, TikvaNZ, ZQX, SpecimenX and I met early morning to knock off the last of these fun art based multis. Grabbed two of them and a nearby trad before adjourning to a cafe for coffee and some brunch.

Cords sorted some time ago, before FTF as I recall and today was collection day. Needed two TOTTs to make the retrieve, and a few extra hands for safety. Then a relatively easy return before heading to the next one.

Thanks Rapidlywild for the cache and the fun!

26-Jan-23
Out on Australia Day morning with AngelG27, TikvaNZ, ZQX and SpecimenX (FATZS). This one was a fair effort, requiring multiple TOTTs and a team effort to ensure sufficient safety of said TOTTs. I did the retrieving and replacement duties - it was still a stretch. TFTC RWD

26-Jan-23
Found with friends. FLTF
Teamwork (a team of five no less) was required to retrieve this cache. Somehow I spotted the cache before anyone else did. It was a combination of looking at just the right spot + luck + the sunlight glinting off something metallic.

At first we didn't have the right combination of equipment to reach the cache. So three of us waited at GZ while two others went to fetch the missing tool.

Once we had all the totts, we worked as a team to get the cache down. Fox in Jox did the main bit. I was ballast at this point. But very important ballast.

The five of us signed the log as FATZS to save space in the log book. FATZS stands for Fox in Jox, AngelG27, TikvaNZ, ZQX and SpecimenX.

The CO might want to check the log for this one. There appears to be much fewer names in the physical log book than the number of online found it logs.

Thanks for the cache, RW. I'm enjoying this series. And thanks to my caching companions today. I can't imagine ever getting this cache on my own. Not unless I hired a cherry-picker.

26-Jan-23
Up and out the door early for a mini mission with Fox in Jox, AngelG27, TikvaNZ, ZQX (logged as FATZS). Pretty good Australia day morning with caching, coffee and bacon and egg rolls!

First up for us was this one and after spying the hide, multiple TOTTs were at the ready. So to decide on one we had a game of "my TOTT is longer than your TOTT" (I won lol Big Grin). But it was just a little short to reach this cache; so another TOTT was deployed to gain more elevation.

That worked a treat so with a team effort we had cache retrieved, signed and replaced and a good D/T combo in the bag as well.

Thanks for the hide, Rapidlywild.

A morning caching mission with AngelG27, SpecimenX, Fox in Jox and ZQX, to grab a couple of fishing multis, a trad, and then a cafe stop for a late breakfast. ZQX was quick to spot this one, but none of our TOTTS were long enough. We then deployed another TOTT to provide us with extra height. FIJ ably ascended and fished the cache, with AngelG27 signing the log for us all as FATZS TFTC,

#3469 The information had been collected while finding the recently replaced Flood Memorial trad. With DT finishing up work on the Southside we sent him in to have a look for the cache while I headed south with the tool.
Before I had made it to GZ, as per his log the container had been found on the ground and he had reached out to obtain its correct perch.
So now with no option than to attempt the replacement that is what we set about to do.
Let’s just say all went as planned and the tool was deployed. Despite some slight sway all was achieved with feet firmly planted on the ground and we were back at the vehicles within minutes.
Thanks Rapidlywild for another piece of art and significant fishing challenge.

#1635 Turtle and I visited all the new art waypoints recently and put together all the GZs in preparation for future finds. Given the D rating and the intrigue of the logs we were keen to come find this one ASAP. This afternoon revealed itself as the perfect opportunity with me finishing up work near enough to GZ and Turtle needing a multi for the day.

I beat Turtle to GZ and without our TOTT I begun searching in hopes of finding it quick enough that we could deploy the TOTT as soon as Turtle arrived. I was scanning skyward between two trees that I had found myself placed between, but focused on the one that I felt was more likely. I found a pen on the ground during my search that also made me confident I was looking at the right tree.

After 10 or so minutes looking upward I decided to give my neck a rest and had a quick scan along the ground just in case it wasn’t where it was meant to be. Unfortunately, it was a much quicker search to find it on the ground than it was looking upward. I looked up from where it was sitting and took a guess at where it was supposed to be, there was no broken branches on the ground so I figured the branch was still in tact up there.

Turtle had just turned up just as I finished writing a message to the CO asking where it needed to be returned to. The CO was prompt with a reply and sent a photo through of where it was placed, I must have had a lucky guess because I had picked the right branch earlier. Now knowing the branch we needed to aim for for its return, we brought out the TOTT and eyed the distance up. I gave Turtle a look that I think he realised was suggesting, “are you thinking what I’m thinking B1?” And he gave a look in return “I think I am B2!”.

With a big smile on our faces, we had returned the cache to its original hanging place within 5 minutes. We were ecstatic, we had done all this with only one TOTT with our feet firmly placed on the ground. Its always more enjoyable when you don’t have to pull the ladder out.

Thanks Rapidlywild for placing this multi, we’re really enjoying these multis and these challenging tree fishes. It was unfortunate we didn’t get to spot it and retrieve it from up high, but happy to say it’s returned to where it needs to be!

22-Jan-23
A tricky cache indeed!
Took myself and DSD about 40 minutes to retrieve / return, I certainly wouldn't have been able to do it by myself! We not only needed my fishing pole, but also an extra height boost, and then we also used Domsky's hook which added an extra half a metre or so!

We spotted the cache easily thanks to Domsky's hook having bright red tape wrapped around it, and being caught up in the tree with the cache itself! So we spent the first 10 minutes getting their hook down, as it was impending on our access to the cache itself, so this added even more difficulty to the task.

Once we had removed the lost hook from the cache, we then realised we could use it to our advantage as it would add another half metre to our pole length. So we retrieved some thick tape, and attached it to the end of my pole.

We then spent another while retrieving the cache itself, but after a bit of patience, persistance and guidance from DSD, it was a success!

Signed the log and then prepared for the return. This was a bit easier, but still gave us some troubles as now the wind had started to pick up, oh no! Luckily we struck gold before it picked up too much, and we celebrated.

Thanks Rapidlywild, the toughest one in the series so far! Also enjoyed visiting WP1 a couple weeks ago, I remember coming here for a cache in the past!

Found with loci612 on a cold wet and windy day. Thanks for the cache and the Adventure. I am really enjoying this series of caches. Can't wait to find the next one.

This cache was so hard to get down and back up again. I'm giving it a fav point because we put so much effort I getting it down.

Wow some people must have incredibly long fishing poles. Thanks to the Domskys a group of us are managing to claim the prize here. The heroes came armed with two poles and a ladder that enabled them to retrieve the cache under difficult conditions as a breeze hampered the efforts at times. Once Albida33 had done the legal work for us all, Joolay contributed with some advice on a way to return the little blighter to its resting place. This seemed to help somewhat and the cache, and a little bonus, was soon sitting proudly back on high.
TFTC Rapidlywild and Domskys great effort has earned you a FP.

Found this afternoon with fitzy_1965, albida33, joolay, barb2e, isopeda, GLISS!, Domsky, ALL7 + GeoDog and smittengranny. I had trouble getting a nearby park so the group had already gathered by the time I turned up. In fact, the cache had just been retrieved. Once signed, Domsky did the honours in getting the cache back up but lost part of their pole in the process. Hopefully the next finders can return side part.

I am very familiar with the Memorial as family friends live at the end of the next cul-de-sac over, so thank you for highlighting this little bit of history.

17-Jan-23
Found with a group after work. It was certainly tricky with the retrieval and return. I was very thankful of the skilled fishing of my caching friends. TFTC Rapidlywild.

17-Jan-23
I had somehow ,managed to arrange to go for another walk this morning, so I collected Fitzy_1965 in Civic and we headed to the car park at the base of the Old Tuggeranong road. A little bit worried about the lasting impact of Saturdays epic hike, we headed up the trail from the cache on the highway to the railway line, and then headed along to the currently southern most cache I had not completed and then returned to the car for two other southern district caches before heading home for a break until it was time for the group assault on the Woden Flood memorial multi that needs a really long tool. It was a fun day and the walk just manageable.

After seeing this cache last week, I was keen to join a group effort with a longer pole. Today lots of people turned up and Domsky generously came back with their double pole to make another retrieval. It was a lot more flexible than the pole I usually use, but we managed to hook it and get it down and then put it back after signing, but there is a bonus bit of hook stuck on the wire, I am sure the next finder can return that to Domsky when it is next pulled down.

Thanks for the cache Rapidlywild

This memorial is always a sad one to visit. It took me a long time for the first visit and this was the second.

Today I raced out after work to join albida33, Joolay, ALL7 and GeoHound, minniek, fitzy_65, barb2e and smittengranny to crane the necks and stretch the limbs. We were greatly and gratefully supported by Domsky who knew that their TOTT would be more useful than mine.

After replacing the cache, part of the hooky-grabby device detached itself from Domsky's pole and was ultimately left behind.

29,702. Found with minniek, albida33, joolay, barb2e, isopeda, GLISS!, Domsky, ALL7 + GeoDog and smittengranny during an afternoon gathering of the Poles.

albida and I had gathered the info for this one last week, but even with albida's combined ladder and pole we barely could reach the cache. So we decided to bring in the big guns (pole). We gathered this afternoon and with Domsky leading the way we recovered the cache. Signed the log. Then more fun ensured with replacing the cache, which we managed. we even left a calling card Smile Then we all went our separate ways.

Thanks Rapidlywild !!

Well that was he hectic. Domsky contacted me to say they were going to take their TOTT’s to this cache to help get it for some other cachers and did I want to come. Oh yes I did and so glad I did as it’s high, very high. Quite an effort from Albida and Domsky getting this down but it was managed well. Getting it back up was interesting and in the end left the top part of the TOTT behind. Of course the wind sprang up at that crucial moment which did not help. Lovely catching up with everyone and much appreciated Domsky helping other cachers get this tricky one even though they had already found it.

Thanks for getting me out and about Rapidlywild

17-Jan-23
Found with a support crew of albida33, smittengranny, fitzy_1965, minniek, GLISS!, ALL7 & geohound, joolay and isopeda. We were grateful for the expertise of Domsky whose equipment managed the task, although there was a minor malfunction at the final point. A lot of neck craning and words of encouragement were shared by all in the enjoyment of the afternoon. Tftc

13-Jan-23
I was joined after lunch by Fitzy_1965 for an afternoon looking for pole caches. We had done the leg work of visiting the art last week and had five locations to visit today. I am not someone who understands all this art, so it was nice to be shown something I would not normally seek out. We managed to see all five and retrieve and sign four of them, the other one will have to wait for another day and a longer tool ! Having missed one Pole cache we headed to a nearby location for a blessedly ground based cache and then headed home for dinner before preparing for tomorrows hike.

This is the one that beat our pole. From the top of my 4m Ladder I could touch it, but I did not have the angle to move it. I will now join a group attempt on Tuesday afternoon next week.

Thanks.
Albida

Despite the names like StarsAlign, MountainsBeyond and SocialClimber we needed the help of Domsky duo who clearly have the capability to reach high places. Lots of fun, particularly as it was windy. I am not sure how much longer the tree will be there as it is marked (yellow paint) to be removed. TFTC

05-Jan-23
Many thx to Team Domsky who so skilfully retrieved and returned the cache using a couple of TOTTs like it was childs play. This was despite it being windy, birds flying all around and the rest of us cheering them on with encouragement and hope.

Team Domsky's success today earnt them immediate entry into the Dream Team whether they liked it or not.

That was fun today albeit short lived. TFTC Rapidlywild that without these ridiculous caches launched at these dizzy heights, for us to complain about, we would not have enjoy ourselves as much as we did in the retrieval/return process today.

05-Jan-23
After yesterday's failure to retrieve this cache, I consulted some friends in high places - or at least friends who know how to get things from high places, to bring them down to ground and then to replace them again in the aforementioned high place exactly as found.

Huge thanks to the lovely Team Domsky who made this look a breeze (in the breeze!) - together with StarsAlign and the SocialClimber we had a great little mini-event here in the grasslands today.

Thanks, Rapidlywild.

*FTF* with Tankengine.

The solving was easy, the parking was easy, the hide took a while to find, but the retrieval and return was where the D5 came in. And it’s impossible to avoid muggles. Hundreds of them around at GZ, but thankfully no one asked what we were doing. Nice D/T for a multi though. Tftc!!!

04-Jan-23
Chooo ooo [FTF] with dty73! Arrived here early in the morning and proceeded with the cache. Once at GZ, it took a while to spot. The loose bark camoed the cache well, and the low light of the overcast early morning added to the difficulty. But eventually it was spotted! Took some while to retrieve, as it was caught real good in the loose bark!!! Finally, we had it! Signed, and the return was way easier! Thanks Rapidlywild!

04-Jan-23
I was a bit late to the party here, with the FTF crew meeting me near the second of these two caches. And while I can see where the container is, once again I'm afraid my tool is a little inadequate for the task today (as the bishop said to the actress). Good luck to future finders who are suitable equipped.

Since arriving back in Canberra, we have been astounded at the growth in hides, puzzles and the enormous geocaching map over the ACT.
So much for us to catch up on, and it all looks so delicious!
This morning, we had the joy and fun of meeting up with Stars Align, Mountains Beyond and Social Climber to sort this one out.
Fair to say, it was a very group effort. In some good wind gusts, we took our time to support each other through this physical exercise!
In the end, the agile Stars Align leapt from the human pyramid created below by the team of Social Climber, Mountains Beyond and Domsky up to GZ. (That branch looks dangerous SA)! But it was “wow”!
Somehow with contortions and caution tossed to the gusts in the Curtin wind, we had our names in the log.
All that was left was for Stars Align to descend gracefully.. and that she did. Just a backflip or 2 on the way down !
Done and dusted (phew)!
Oh. That was fun.
Thanks RapidlyWild
