Staying in Mt Gambier, we decided to take a trip to Penola. I calculated the coordinates over lunch at the bakery, but like others before me, I could not find this cache.
We had a good look here but could not find it. Previous logs also didn't help us as we came up empty
I looked here. I looked there I looked high. I looked low. But no cache could I spy. Sad as I enjoyed working out the coordinates
Took forevwrI do love a multi, but boy, was this a hard one!The waypoints were simple; we had the coords. Let's get this!Haha, no, well, not yet. We approached GZ from the rail trail. This in itself may have been our undoing. There was a (now I know) random barbed wire fence. Dont cross that, I thought. We searched high and low, even knowing the terrain was a 1.5 - but no luck.We crossed the fence when [@Kristysadventures](https://coord.info/PRXNC6Z) saw that there was no fence on the other side of the block. We, haha, Kristy, eventually found the cache. Im sure you will read that story in her log. Thanks, hevwalker
We are on a road trip to WA and thought we would pick up a few caches along the way to Murray Bridge today. This was a very sneaky hide and I was just about to give up when something caught my eye and I investigated a bit closer. Finally I managed to extract the container and sign the log.
Find # 15923Been a while since I've been out solo for a long trip. But things change over time. And I'm living the past.So with some time off work, I've jumped the border wall to chase down some long trails in South Aussie... don't know how many I'll get. But I've got quite a few downloaded. I do have a short hit list ( of 2) caches to help with a challenge. All others are just for the Adventure and countryside views. Armed with all the necessary TOTT from tweezers and magnet grab to 6m ladder and 8m fishing pole. I believe I'm prepared for all that I'll come across. (Just had to leave the Kayak at home )Day 7. Naracoorte to HomeA day to take in the sites of the Naracoorte area before jumping back over the border. To head for home. Grabbing the odd cache along the way. Took a while at GZ, think I was overthinking the hide really. TFTC hevwalker
We stayed in Penola for a few days and wanted to find some local caches. We enjoyed walking around the historic township taking in the many heritage buildings. We enjoyed several cafes and a superb dinner at Piper's. We also met a local cacher at George the Farmer, which was fun.We love coming across the border to go on holiday and cache in South Australia. All caches were found in excellent condition unless otherwise stated.Thank you, hevwalker, for this Multicache.
After looking for while and trying to read hints from previous find dipped out and lucked out.
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA. This is our kind of caching - back country roads. Windy arvo and hardy any traffic. Very sneaky. Thanks hevwalkerLNCU
Travelling with richlink as part of our Caravan Geocaching Trip. It's moving day today, a big move... Narracoorte to Penola. Touring the area or using geocaching as our guide. That was a tough one, thanks for the hide. LNCU.
Out and about with TeamAstro enjoying some SA caches, great scenery and good weatherReading previous logs probably threw us as we were looking harder than what it was. A good hidey hole. Really cool star pickets hereThanks hevwalker for contributing to this great game for myself and others to enjoy.
Wow. Pretty neat spot. Love those twirly star droppers. Cool hide that was found probably quicker than expected!! Bang! Thanks hevwalker and clear skies from TeamAstro. What a fantastic week of (late) autumn weather it has been in Adelaide! And with even more on the way, I thought Id take the opportunity to go away for a few days of caching, camping and sightseeing on my own. From Adelaide I headed down to the Coonawarra, then across to the Southern Grampians area then east as far as Colac, before making my way back home. I took a winding route, collecting caches of interest along the way. I managed to find a range of caches types, including Traditional, Unknown, Multi, Letterbox Hybrid, Virtual and Earthcaches as well as a few Adventure Labs. All but a couple were found without any trouble. Most were good order unless otherwise noted.Fortunately the weather held out pretty well for most of the time. However, it rained steadily for hours when I was in Colac one night, but I guess you have to expect that in Victoria! The required information was collected and final coordinates determined, than it was off to GZ for a quick find. Thanks hevwalker for the cache.
Found at 12:00 PM GAFF4.We scoured the whole area yesterday afternoon for no result and today armed with some information from a friend, we were able to concentrate on a specific area and type of hide and a very well camouflaged cache was found - it is akin to have been buried, but vertically Thanks to hevwalkerFeedback: Gets an FP for the well placed cache - but it probably should be rated a bit higher for Difficulty considering the number of previous cachers who had a lot of trouble finding it.
DNF at 2:51 PM. We couldn't even find a good hiding spot!Must be very will hidden for a D of 2.5!We were impressed with the pine tree though - so big after just 40 odd years. And a different type of pine from the Monterey Pine that we are used to.
Not sure if I got this right. A reasonable area but no cache for me in the allocated time...
After getting a hint on where to look from a fellow cacher I walked straight to the cache today. It did help immensely that the covering that was hiding the cache had fallen away and the cache was in plain sight. I see now why I failed last visit, it is completely hidden from view normally and also now unless the cover dislodges again.
Dazzled by either my stupidity or maybe didnt even get this area . Finally found it! TFTC hevwalker.
Took quite a bit to puzzle out the extraction of the cache but managed in the endTFTC
solved on our last visit down to the south east but didn't have time to get to any of the solved finals. We came down then for the co birthday. This was a slow find, more a matter of carefully checking gz.Found with Mogni. I think this is the most changed trip in the planning stage that i have ever been on. The " original trip " was supposed to start on the 31st of dec but at the start of December life changed and the trip was now starting on the 26th of December and all accommodation that had booked cancelled and now see what else is free on the earlier dates. A major readjust of plans and got 1/2 the trip booked before the next curve ball came in to alter the plans again. More adjusting the plans again and i realized i could host 2 CITO's in 2 different LGA's in Victoria. What we do to qualify for Victorian challenge caches. Also i got my 20, 000 cache over in Victoria in this trip. It was decided in the end that the 4x4 was going to be the vehicle for this trip that way we could go and target all the caches that you never get, the ones down the sandy/rocky/dirt and forestry roads/tracks. We left Adelaide and headed to Casterton for a couple of days, then to Budj Bim National Park ( and saw 5 koalas in the camp ground high up in the trees ), then over Heywood, a night in Mount Gambier plus there attended the 3rd CITO of the trip before sending a few nights in Millicent and then finally home. Over 250 caches found plus 86 lab caches. Mogni also got her 11th D/T loop. I also got 3 more Victorian LGA's up to 20 finds minimum for another Victorian challenge cache. If the cache was broken/eaten/smashed it was replaced with a new container and if the log sheet was wet it was replaced and if the log was full or almost full extra log sheets were added to the cache.
Christmas holidays means caching trip with sir_spectre. This year we managed to attend 3 CITO's, claim 2 FTF's, visit lots of Adventure Labs and claim many smilies.Caches that needed some love got it, and we might of even hidden a few too.As a bonus I got to catch up with my family and some friends along the way. Thanks to hevwalker from mogni .
Staying in Millicent for a few days of caching in the area to give the 2023 numbers a boost.Numbers were gathered and then off to GZ. I had to resort to a PAF and even then it was hard to spot. Was hard to get out as well, broke a nail.TFTC
This one took me a long time. I looked at everything multiple times. But when I say everything I obviously mean everything except the cache hide. With a feeling of despair I thought Id try one more thing and there you have it. Dastardly hide indeed. Easy when you know how and youve lost all that time. Im giving it a favourite for the pain and relief it eventually gave. TFTC
Only consolation for this cache is that we are not alone in having a failure here.
Needed a paf to find this cache. Not in the tree that I expected. Found in the other tree.I will apologize right now, because everything from here on is here solely for the purpose of padding the word count and winning that one hundred word diamond badge again. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. We do apologise for the generic logs. Thanks to all the cache owner for placing this cache here for our enjoyment. Thanks for the cache. Merci la cache. Danke fr den Cache. Gracias por el cach. On the way to the Mount so stopped in at Penola to collect the 3 multis that have popped up. Visited all 3 spots and then headed to GZ and enjoyed our walk. 2 of the caches were found very quickly the 3rd proved to be very tricky but we got there in the end, quitters luck kicking in .Thanks for the caches Hevwalker and Scramping
SL at 1:40pm. Daytrip out to Penola with bdiaw to cash in on the bottles and cache of course in the area before heading to Mt. Gambier. So I thought I would search for this one again after my failed attempt at a FTF in May. After looking here and there and all around (I knew my coordinates were correct) - something just stood out and I thought.. I wonder. Sure enough - bam! Got you this time!

Suscoe was heading to Nelson today, it was a cool start at Murray Bridge and travelling through Keith the temperature dropped to around 3 degrees. But the sun came through and it ended up a lovely later Winter’s day. Our caching destination was Penola with Adventure Labs, Multis and Traditionals on our list.
Penola is a delightful little town with interesting history around every corner.
Thanks to hevwalker for this hide. Mrs S spotted this one quickly which was great.

I failed, no cigar today, or a smiley. Tried the numbers a few times but a champion geocacher has the better of me. Thank you for the hunt at least hevwalker.
With confirmation our co-ords are correct we have given this cache another through search. To good for us.

We left home at an early hour after spotting two new multi caches at Penola that had not been found yet. Gathering the information for this cache was the easy part, the information needed and the questions asked where clear and concise then off to our calculated GZ.
This is where the fun started, we looked here and we looked there and then we reversed our roles and checked where the other had looked. Around about now I was cold and hungry and I will say that this is not a recipe for a systematic search. We left and decided to return after we found some coffee, sunshine, coffee, other caches, coffee and food.
Finally when we returned the cache appeared as if by a miracle. A favourite for this one for the clever hide.
