Logs
Final has been moved to a new location due to the council landscaping the area. Instructions at WP2 have been amended.
Council workers have removed the final. Will wait until the work has finished before deciding where to replace the cache.
I am staying with That Darn Bear for an extra long long weekend. I can't remember why we decided to do this cache, but I must admit I do like multis that are a bit more that a read-a-sign (and the corollary - I do not like read-a-sign multis). I can do navigation, so we decided to have a go at this. Alas I botched this from the start and forgot to add the magnetic declination and the first waypoint put us on an island with no access besides getting very wet. None of the logs mentioned this so we reread the instructions. Oops! After that it was a doddle. No it wasn't! At the final the hint item has been removed. And, in fact, the whole hint structure is to be taken out. I talked to a contractor there - he is laying a new walking cycling path that will blow right through the final GZ. He was fascinated by geocaching and asked us to show him the cache if we find it. We did find it, lying not far from the hide. After showing the digger driver, I hid it in a small bush just 1m from the old hide. The digger driver said he would avoid the bush, but we do recommend the CO check out the hide and confirm he is happy with it or make what changes he feels he needs. The bear sent the CO a note and he has already updated the cache page. Well done!Gets a fave for the interesting multi and the prompt maintenance from the CO. Nice!
The Seagnoid has come to stay for a long weekend and have some caching adventures. Today we headed to Kaiapoi as I am working on a challenge to find multis on Mondays, and there is quite a few around.Getting the initial information was quick, and then on to the new projection. It became clear as we got closer (as it appears a lot of people have found) that it's not quite right... We had a read of previous logs and busy paws had mentioned "it's all about North". That was enough for the Seagnoid to click and yell "of course".On our way again to the next waypoint. And finally to the final, where we found another issue. The whole area is being redeveloped for a cycle trail to go through. We checked the hint objects that were still remaining but no luck.By chance the Seagnoid ended up spotting the cache lying in some leaves next to a bush where a fence used to be. Have messaged the CO with this information, and a photo of GZ.Thanks for setting this one up.
I should have taken a ne mark at WP1 as the errors compounded and I wasn't near the final.Didn't you sue to live right about the final?
It appears we can scout. Our coordinates for the second waypoint resulted in a quick find of the instructions for the final. We calculated the location then meandered our way to the final, which was a quick easy find once we identified the correct hint object. TFTC
Wow took us a bit of wandering - found WP 1 ok but our direction was slightly off initially for WP 2. Lots of fun TFTC
We had been previously to enjoy the walk for the information. Today we need a multi so came out for some caches. Thanks for setting up this multi BaldEd.
Starting to tick off a few multis. It's always nice when they turn up right where you think they should be! tftc
I was out with Busypaws today and my projection had us in water so back to the start. Recalculated with a bit of help and were soon signing the logbook
Well, that was a learning experience!! No trouble with WP1. Projection - - -water like many before us. PAF and explanation given, would not have got that, it's all about north. Final was very easy and happy to sign a log. TFTC and a lesson!
This was a lovely cache for the whnau! We followed the clues and eventually located the final. Very windy afternoon. TFTC!!South Australia is the place be for GCA1DNA - MEGA - February 29th, 2024 in Adelaide! Hope to see you at The Great Leap Forward!
I found this cache after I had breakfast . The sun has come out Yay. It's so much nicer caching in the sun. Yesterday it was freezing and wet. I needed a multi today for a personal challenge that may take another 2 years to complete. I still have 68 calendar days without a multi. This one took two visits. With help from Jude_E I worked out which took to use to find waypoint one and waypoint two.
This was fun. I didn't know when I started this one, how to get the info I wanted. I don't own a separate gps, just a smartphone. An app on it that I already had, provided me the information I needed, and in no time at all, I had the WP bottle in hand. A short time later, the final was spotted and signed. FP from me. Thanks, BaldEd.

Used my electronic compass applying corrections as required. I was about 10 meters out at the first waypoint while the final was spot on for me; TFTC

Dont think we will ever be Scouts but with a lot of toing and froing and guess work we managed to find the WP and then the cache. Thanks Ed we now know a little bit more about compass points. TFTC
A great little find!! Way point stood out like a "sore thumb" and the final arrow pointed straight to GZ. Even the grass was dry!! I think it helped that we were probably using the same gadget as the CO, as it was no problem to alter for a short while. Thank you E. a fav from us.
Did the projection at home and fell into the same trap (or water) that TG did. Hmmmm.... why can't I Scout?
Then I realised my mistake and recalculated the projection. This put the marker pin in a spot which matched the hint. Sweet!
Came out for a walk with daughter and I was pleased to find the box at the co ordinates I had worked out. Off to the final and it was a quick find.
TFTC and have a favourite for making me realise that I shouldn't just blindly follow what my phone says!

Can I Scout?...initially I thought yes, but then on Sunday, maybe not so much.....but now, in the dark even, hmmm....maybe.
hah ha. Clever, and not usually something that you think about.
On Sunday late arvo it wasnt until Id given up and headed to wander Matawai reserve in Rangiora that I head-smackingly realised my error...but by then i was well out of time and running late - i had to head home to get Mr13 feed and off to his mates to watch the footy...and help Mr15 with a project whilst I cooked tea! (MrsTG had gone to pump and yoga) ...so i had to bide my time before i could even check my thinking. It wasnt until a break at work on monday that i could check, and sweeeeet, looked good on googlemaps - but, wrong side of town to do anything from work. Monday after schools are super busy so again had to leave it until later. Decided to ride my new found Scouting confidence, all or nothing, and try a solo mad monday midnight mission.
Nice evening, still pleasantly mild....quiet as. Well, there ya go, found the wp easily and then off to the final. Nice! Love the concept.
+FP ...just, well, because!
