Smile Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I live full-time in our caravan travelling around NZ, visiting the places we want to visit & doing the things we want to do and fitting in a bit of Geocaching here & there we are staying at Twizel & enjoying the nice weather & the fantastic scenery as I had done a lot of Rowing in my younger years, 50 years or so ago, I was familiar with the name of Max Smith and the contributions he made to the setting up of the Lake RuataniwhaView Rowing Course not that I ever rowed on it mind you but this was one of those caches that I wanted to get, sort of a personal satisfaction cache the area was deserted today when we visited, so it was, more-or-less, a quick and easy find, logbook signed & cache was returned as found were also pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:LS this was #6,547 for us!

I am glad I took the short detour to find your cache. Nice and sheltered from the wind the sun beating down what more could I ask for. I spotted the likely hide hole on approach and sure enough there was the nicely hidden gem.

We started our beautiful journey through the South Island in Christchurch. Here we went on a big sightseeing tour and visited lots of caches. We then travelled via Lake Tapeko, Dansey Pass and Moeraki to Dunedin for the MEGA event. In Dunedin we visited the MEGA events and together with many other cachers we found many caches around Dunedin. A few days later, we travelled on through the Catlins to the southernmost part of Bluff. We then visited Te Anau and the tourist town of Queenstown. In Wanaka we went on another sightseeing tour until we reached the west coast via the Haast Pass. We hiked to Fox Glacier and Franz Josef Glacier. We continued along the west coast up to Westport, stopping at various sights along the way. Richmond and Nelson, the sunniest cities, were also on our list.A few days later we reached the east coast again in the wine region of Picton and Blenheim. After a few days, we travelled back to Christchurch via Kaikoura. We visited many geological sites, completed many adventure cahes and found many caches along the way.We travelled almost 3500 km and had so many great experiences. Many thanks to all the ownersTeam sissifalke

A nice quick find. Very quiet at GZ though we did see so rowing across the other side of the lake. Thanks for placing your cache. Ms_KR and I are off on a cruise around the south of the South. Great to be away. The day was mostly fine, with stunning views of Mt Cook and the mountains of the southern alps.Occassionally signed MK+KR on cache logs, and apologies for the generic logs. Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches.

All quiet apart from a noisy putangitangi, sent flying by St Andrews rowers on the far side. Saw a likely GZ while still on the level, so it was a quick retrieval.Thank you Eve07

#23612. Made hard work of this by heading up hill in the wrong pace, and then sidling quite a way. Should have got as close as possible to GZ on the flat and then headed up. Oh well; easy find once I got to GZ. TFTC.

Luckily I didn't blindly follow StreetWalkerNZ, who took the scenic route to GZ! Cache was a quick find once in the right place .This is the first time I have been here, it was very quiet today, but I can imagine at certain times, it would be very busy. Thanks for the interesting write up about Max Smith. What a legacy. TFTC.

We had a wonderful time playing in the water and having a picnic lunch further down the lake. The middle grandson thought it would be a great place for a "treasure". I remembered doing several around here a few years ago and thought maybe one would be close enough for him to find but they were all a bit far away but I hadn't found this one which was on our way out to our next adventure. I spotted the hide on approach and he "found" it. Win/win all round. TFTC Eve07 # 20,865

Day 9: Across the Lindis PassThe route for today brought us back to close the big loop of our Southern journey by passing through Omarama and the Lindis Pass and back into Cromwell where we stayed the night. This would be my first trip across the Pass and we found many caches along the way, including the highlight of the day at the Bendigo Historic Reserve. Thanks for all of the caches along the route!(End of the cut and paste bit)Heres the specific log for the cache:We had some time to kill before the salmon shop opened, so I stopped by the lake to pick up a couple more caches for the road. I made this one harder by going too far up the slope initially and having to slide myself back down to what is actually a pretty gentle T cache. Sigh the stupid things I do sometimes. But once at GZ, the cache was easily found. TFTC and the great biography of the man who made this all happen!

I headed along his Drive towards this cache. Quite a few rowers out training, (perfect weather for it today) and one watching muggle, right where I didn't want them to be. They moved on and I pounced before anyone else turned up. Thanks Eve07.
