Congratulations huhugrub for hosting a great GIFF event! We would have loved to be there in person, but just a little too far away to get there. Sounds like everyone had a great time! Thanks for having us virtually take part and hope everyone enjoys the little prizes. Any issues activating the special GIFF wooden geocoins, just get in touch with us through our website www.geocoins.nzThanks!
We appreciated all the effort and creativity of the film makers who shared their stories with us for the evening. After the event, we conducted an unofficial audience vote. Ten of the 18 films received one or more votes by the audience as their most favourite film of the evening. The nine runners up were:#01. HIDDEN TRACKS #02. Eat Sleep Cache Repeat #03. Roman GeoHoliday #06. (Dont) do it yourself #09. Don E.T. #14. Frog Story! #15. The revolutionary Revolutionary #16. Tilius Travel #17. Easy. TFTC and the winner who garnered a clear majority of 59% of the votes was #04. Geocare - Home for the Aged Geocacher by chooknchunk (Australia)We have sent a congratulatory message to them on behalf of all event attendees. At the conclusion of the event, we conducted a draw of seven spot prizes kindly provided by www.geocoins.nz, including several wooden geocoins (with unactivated tracking codes) that have been specially made for this GIFF 2023 event in Wellington. Many thanks to www.geocoins.nzPlease be reminded that, in addition to our unofficial event vote, you are encouraged to take part in this years official worldwide vote for GIFF Peoples Choice Film. If you have not already done so, you are encouraged to go to [surveymonkey.com/r/GIFF2023](https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GIFF2023) to vote for your favourite film. This may or may not be the unofficial majority winner above. Actually if your choice is a different one, then it is even more important to vote for yours and make your vote count in the official tally. When you do the official voting on the surveymonkey site, there is a film-still image to remind you of each film. One vote per Geocaching.com player account. Voting closes Friday November 24, 12:00 New Zealand Daylight Time. The official winner will be announced in a future [Geocaching Blog post]( https://www.geocaching.com/blog/).
#2643. The annual GIFF show is always a highlight of the year, and this one was no exception - attended by a goodly gathering of the usual suspects. There was one clear winner of the best movie from the 18 shown, and 7 winners of the huhugrub very clever hi-tech prize draw. Thanks for hosting Mr & Mrs huhugrub. A fun night finished off with dinner downstairs.
There was a clear winner for me: the Aussies with Geocare were hilarious though getting close to home with their aches & ailments ?? Then a number of clips vying for second place: I appreciated raising awareness of mental health, and laughed at the positive spin in Job Interview. Great to see movies from around the world, both submissions and cachers saying Found It! in their own language. A nice enough but pricey dinner downstairs afterwards, with the usual great company. Thanks for organising again huhugrubs ????????
This was my first time attending a Huhugrub giff event, and what a great, well organized event it was. The venue was excellent, and nice and handy to the train station. There were some very clever and well made 'giffs' which kept everyone entertained for the best part if an hour. A big thanks to www.geocoins for providing the spot prizes, of which I was lucky enough to win one of the coins. And thankyou to Huhugrub for organizing this event
Another great selection of movies - one was a clear winner but it seems like I was the only one that appreciated the Wes Anderson tribute. Was lucky to win a prize - a "shiny" new geocoin (thank you geocoins.nz).Company was great, dinner a bit expensive for what it was (but isn't it the same these days, every where?). There were discussions about answering the "what's the point of geocaching?" questions - because it's there! A hobby with little outlay and the biggest expense being petrol. But thinking about it after the fact, I spent more last night on dinner, drinks, and parking, than I did on petrol last Sunday going around the Nifty Swifty series, so... ??All in all, a great evening nonetheless and thank you once again for organising. TFTGE
I enjoyed the Geocache mini movies in this old Wellington Icon. Inspiring to see such a variety international entries with experiences we could identify with. Especially those with a great sense of humour. I agreed with the top best movie choice which was hilarious. Dinner after had wide very nice choices of delicious blends in food served. Great to catch up with Geocaching buddies. TFTE
Thanks for a great night. Sorry to leave early and not stay for dinner but had things to do. TFTE
These funny and moving films were great discoveries. There was no doubt about the winner of the evening. For my part, great encounters and a little Geocoin won. Thank you for this great event ??
#13,664. I have attended a few of these events now. Always a quirky selection as the humour and purpose of the short films seems to vary amongst the geocaching countries of the world - some take it seriously and others entertain. Some poignant messages we all understood about addictions and behaviours we all share. The room clearly enjoyed those with good funny story lines. I appreciated most of them but enjoyed some more than others. The Aussie take on retirement was the best of the lot in my view. Might have missed the Wes Anderson connection but definitely saw a similarity to Groundhog Day. Ahh the joys of aging (not). Thanks huhugrub for organising this event once more and providing prizes for participants. The meal was definitely tasty but you pay a premium for the location. Cheers GSEL
(# 8452 ) Another well attended GIFF evening. Liked a number of the short films. Good to catch up with everyone again. Thanks huhugrub for organising.
#14,279. This was our seventh GIFF evening held at this venue on Mulgrave Street, Thorndon, Wellington. We learnt that this was actually meant to be celebrating 10 years of GIFF. What happened in the other three years?Well, the Geocaching International Film Festival (GIFF) began in 2013 and was a part of the Geocaching Block Party 2013 held at Geocaching HQ, in Seattle, Washington, United States of America. The finalist films were screened in a park near HQ. Although it was a huge success, no other GIFF event was held elsewhere. There was another GIFF in 2014 with the same format. The finalist films were shown again in the park near HQ during the Geocaching Block Party 2014. Well, in 2015, all of the finalist films were ready to go but it was pouring down rain, like it sometimes does in Seattle. The GIFF team decided on a fabulous alternative plan. They cancelled GIFF in the park and instead, they allowed geocachers across the world to host GIFF Events to show the film reel in their own communities. The community loved it and this has been the format ever since. In 2020, GIFF took a brief intermission until the credits rolled on 2020. As part of celebrating 20 years of Geocaching, HQ put together a full length Best of: GIFF compilation from every year from 2013 to 2019 including honourable mentions and winners. That compilation comprised of a massive number of 52 films, and was available on the Geocaching YouTube channel. Although no GIFF events were held that year, this still counted as one of the GIFF years. In 2022, GIFF took a real intermission gap year.In 2023, we were pleased to welcome so many regulars who have returned to join us again this year. Particularly, we were happy to welcome some new first timers to our GIFF event, including Rubidium68 who has been visiting New Zealand from France. Easy. Had a great night attending our first GIFF event! Many thanks to huhugrub for hosting. We enjoyed all the entries, and had a good laugh at some. We also enjoyed catching up with other geocachers. Many thanks to www.geocoins.nz for our little cache container prize. That'll spur us on to creating a new hide. Cheers ??????

Another successful and enjoyable GIFF evening. Good to catch up with everyone. Thanks for organising huhugrub.
What better way to spend an evening than with friends and cachers new and old. Some great short movies, and very poignant in some cases. Well done huhugrub for another giff evening
I can't believe it has been two years! I was glad I was at the back as I got to have a great laugh. Really enjoyed the films, the laughter, and matagouri and I shared a knowing look with the maze box! Great variety - so much to work with - all close to something we've experienced out there - except maybe the retirement home - easy FAV. Thanks heaps for organising huhugrub, great night and enjoyable dinner after.
I came,I saw, I laughed, I voted (both at the event and online). Thanks for organising another great evening - I could certainly imagine myself at the 'centre for aged geocachers'! Food great as well. TFTC!
Great collection of movies, with some original ideas & technical abilities on show, Thanks for putting on the event!
This is like the fourth? time I have been to this venue. I had to ask the CO. Free!! No wonder we keep coming back here. I think I have seen every GIFF now, and ejoyed this one as much as the others. he voting at the end was interesting, with one clear winner. I wonder if that will reflect the final standings. Will be interesting to see.Had dinner afterwards. Alas the dining room we were in reflected sound too much, it was quite loud. Food was very good, although a bit expensive. A bit of discussion over the recent caches released in the Wairarapa. And afterwards the CO kindly gave me a ride to Ngaio so that I could claim a size regular, today being a Regular dot-day. Many thanks, Huhu. That cache was an easy find.
Hmmmm, it doesn't feel like 2 years have passed since I was last in this pub but apparently it has been. I think the time flies by faster as you get older, which means that I should just about be ready to go into that residential facility for Aged Geocachers that featured in my favourite film this year Actually I thought the line up this year was the best overall standard I've seen over my years of attending GIFFs. Well done to all the entrants for providing such an array of funny, clever and downright poignant films for our entertainment.Of course it was great to see many of the usual crowd, and a few I didn't know so well, as well as our ***participant franais***. I hope you are enjoying your stay in NZ.I'm sure those that stayed for dinner had a great time, but I had to be elsewhere. Thanks Henry and Edith for putting on this evening for us.
Lots of fun films, some of them struck some familiar chords! Good to see a range of old and new faces. Thanks for organising, HHG!
Apologies for the late notice, but I will be attending - for dinner also (oooh, shiney new logging interface!)
Again this year, thank you to huhugrub.A good mixture of films, and thanks for the spot prize. I will now have to have my own cache!TFTEvent
For this year's event, we will have a small number of un-activated geocoins and micro geocache containers to give away as door prizes, courtesy of www.geocoins.nz.We will also be finalising table bookings for the optional dinner after the film show. If you have not indicated in your "Will attend" log whether you are joining us for dinner, or if your plans have changed, please add a fresh "Write note" log to so indicate. Please do ***not*** simply edit your original log.Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday.
Oh no, I've just realised this event clashes with a golf lesson on Thursday in Waikanae (I'm doing a series of four lessons as part of a She Loves Golf promotion). So I won't be able to attend, which is really disappointing, as I loved it last time. I'm assuming Flossie110 won't attend either. Have a great time, everyone!
Finally, my schedule having evolved, I should be able to come to this event. However, I don't think I'll stay for the meal. Don't mind my broken English with a strong French accent, I'm not really shy but not yet completely comfortable with the language of Shakespeare... See you soon
Looking forward to another round of short films and dinner. Many thanks for organising.
I'm definitely in & dinner. Have enjoyed the previous two years (for me) greatly. Thanks huhugrub.
