Found this one with TTO1 and TTO2 today. TTO1 and I are touring New Zealand with TTO2 for a couple of weeks and our travels brought us by this cache. So, we just had to stop and find it. Well, of course we had to stop for this oldie - It was one of the reasons that we are visiting this area. Luckily, we had read some of the previous logs and so had a good idea as to how to approach this one. Favorite Point from me.Were really enjoying our visit and have been exploring lots of cool spots. Im sure that we will still have a lot that we didnt get to see on this trip, so I look forward to coming back again some time to see some more of this beautiful country. Thanks for the fun!
This is the 98th active remaining Year 2000 geocache found. 112 remain worldwide. ***Gazania Rigens*** provided a recent bush bash map below that we used and would recommend. We parked on the road at the left circle, climbed the dirt road, and drove in. This was one of the tougher Y2Ks we did on the islands, but what a view. We are now in Dunedin on our trip. It is very beautiful here with many great buildings. ????We enjoy the surroundings and the great views.????Of course, the Labcaches Tradis Virtuals and Earthcaches are also searched for and logged.??So we walk through the very stormy streets today. ??Hurray - another " old" one. ????. We look forward to this 2000. But the way to come here was really not easy!!!And now we loggt. ??An Favoritenpoint from us!!??Many thanks to all owners ??and greetings from the Moorhelmi from Germany
Found with Gazania Rigens, whose excellent illustrated log should be consulted. We were lucky to have come up here today in the dry rather than so many others attending the Mega over the preceding downpour-plagued days.Having admired the great panorama and the engineering, we headed for this venerable cache, fully expecting a hard bushwhack as had been described to us by previous visitors. However, we found it easy to get up onto the relatively clear ridge and wend our way to a spot opposite GZ over the gully.I did have to fight my way down to the bottom but, once there, all was clear again and, fallowing the accurate coords, soon found the cachers trail winding up to the parallel ridge where the cache was a quick find.Unfortunately the outer box lid is broken. The inner box was missing both its clip closures but I did find one of them at the bottom of the box and re-attached it. I did look for the other one but couldnt see it in or around the cache. The box was replaced in its slot in such a way that the broken lid was protected under cover and the box would drain any accumulated moisture.I do think this excellent old cache does deserve such consideration and tlc!Once more down in the clear gully, walking up it back towards the tower was easy. Coming to a little clearing, there was an obvious path to the right back up to the ridge that, as stated earlier, is also a clear path. In fact, we decided to follow this path to see if it would take us back to the mast and it did! That is by far the easiest approach route to the cache.Heading towards the cache on the ridge from the mast, there is a lone pine tree just to the right of the path. The easy route down to the right to the little clearing is about 6-10metres or so BEFORE that tree. You can see the clearing from the ridge path.I hope the foregoing, together with Gazania Rigenss map image, will save much damage to the vulnerable local plant cover, to cachers clothing, scratched skin, twisted ankles and frayed nerves! ??Altogether a great caching experience. Thanks to whoever is looking after this cache and a favourite point awarded.
Cool with passing low cloud cover limited the views but at least iit wasnt raining - yet.Met a couple of active Brisbane cachers near the summit who kindly assisted with the recovery. TFTC Donovan and another fav awarded to your collection.
We were expecting the worst here, but in the end we got to the cache much quicker than anticipated. I'll try and plot our route on a screenshot, but my artistic and computer skills aren't great. On the drive up we saw a wide track go off to the left, about 150 metres before the car park at the end of the road. We decided to explore that track and it took us close to the rocky ridge in the centre of the scrub land. We later walked further along that track and realised that it comes out again right by the reinforced gate by the car park. I have marked both entry points with a red circle in my photo. Where the track is closest to the rocky ridge we went up on that ridge and followed it west until we were almost level with the cache. It's quite easy to move along the ridge, unless it has rained, then it might get slippery. There's a small lone pine tree up there, and you need to turn north and down into the gully a good bit before it. If you look carefully you can find a slightly easier way through the shrubs along there. You end up in a clearing in the gully which you can follow west again until you are right below GZ. From there it's just a short scramble up to the top. We couldn't see any better and more direct route which didn't involve painful encounters with spiky shrubs. I wonder what this area looked like 24 years ago, but the views are still stunning today. TFTC!
This is day five of my Dunedin Mega trip (and my last day), the first time I've ever been here before (never mind geocaching). Obviously with such a plethora of caches to find there's going to be plenty I'll skip but I hope to find my targets.Unfortunately logging is going to be generic, but thank you to all the cache owners and event organisers for the things you do.Today is for milling around, picking up some remaining target caches and generally sight seeing now that the rain has finally left. Plenty of geotrails about. Container could do with some TLC.All good here, and thank you to Donovan for the placement of your Traditional Cache.Find #7373 at 28 October 2024 2:06pm
Mount Cargill (Dunedin, Otago)Dunedin MEGA Monday and day 3 of some great caching with QLD caching buddies! More great caches to be found while exploring the beautiful Dunedin. Signing our logs QLD + 1 to save room, we were pleased to see most of the caches had been recently maintained and enjoyed a great variety of hides and types.Great to collect this oldie, a fav point for its longevity. A massive thank you to all of the COs for the preparation, placement and maintenance of these caches. TFTC Donovan# 10690CheersWillis007
Out and about with Willis007 and other members of the group QLD+1 finding solved puzzles and multis plus other targeted caches. I found a geotrail to gz, quickly found the cache and signed but missed the geotrail back so it became a bit of a bushbash for a few metres. Great to find another oldie. Tftc
Heading south with Heihei, along with most of New Zealands cachers, for the Dunedin Mega.Had some time before a day of caching with bruzie, CrystalFairy, & GreenGecko1.With being pressed for time and a wet traipse through the shrubs ahead I almost didnt, but Heihei headed into the bushes. Quick find of this oldie ??
Whats got 4 legs, is nice and dry, wanders around in the bush and comes out sopping wet? Answer: 2Wagtails looking for this cache. ?? Perhaps today wasnt the best day to try for this one but time is running out so we gave it a crack. Found it. We drained the outer box of water. The logbook was fine. Thank you for the fun today. ??
We were determined to get one of the original caches. Which we did. Was foggy so no view today Tftc
Gabby59 and I managed to make our way to this one in horrific weather - was worth it though! We are up here grabbing some caches as part of the Mega event
This was one of my target caches while in Dunedin for the MEGA, so I wasn't going to let the icy cold wind and rain put me off.We past a couple of people with dogs as we went in (probably geocachers, but I'm not sure).A wet bush bash up to GZ, and the special cache was in hand. Thanks for setting this up all those years ago
Getting to this was a mission with various trails leading close to GZ. It's also where I eventually got completely soaked right through but this isn't just some ordinary cache but one of a few of the oldest in NZ. As I was standing on the ridge line making my approach I noticed another car that looked familiar park up. Sure enough it was Roaming Howie and Possum who I met earlier at one of the other ancient caches, Unity. This was a lot of fun, that gets a favourite point. Thanks Donovan / Nemesis.
SJT_NZ and I managed 3 out of 4 of the year 2000 caches in the area, a bit of a scramble in 'perfect weather' NOT but was so pleased when it was located. unfortunately outer box has a broken lid but inner box still keeping log and treasures dry. Thanks Donovan for publishing & Nemesis for maintaining this piece of history.
Found with TARV2014 during a road trip down the West Coast, over the Haast Pass, back round Te Anau and to Milford, Dunedin to check in for the Mega Event, and then back to Tasman via Christchurch.TARV has done the all the detail of contacting CO's where necessary with info for Virtuals and Earth-Caches, and posing photos as required. Thanks to all the CO's along the way - the frequent stops, learning more about some local information, and enjoying the stunning views was fantastic. Thanks to all for the caches.
#22871 @1220In NZ to attend Geo Toroa. Today was focused on old caches, types, and sizes needed for various challenges, as much as the weather would allow. Cache soon found. TFTC.
CaptainVimes and I have crossed the pond to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks. It was not a good idea tackling this in the cold and the wet. I am now soaked. Both containers were full of water. Thanks Nemesis and happy caching
Back home in Taranaki after a massive 5 days at the Dunedin Mega with MrMuggleNZ and its time to start logging my findsall 226 of themso wish me luck. Only 2 DNFs the whole time we were here so thats a testament to the dedication of the local cache owners and their maintenance prior to this event. Day 2This cache was on the Must Do list while here as its a month I need for my finds by hidden month in fact apart from the oldest cache in NZ this is the only other yr 2000 cache I have found. We couldnt really find a way in so walked up the track a bit and then made our own way in. The way MM took us ended up not too bad and he had soon found the cache too! Thanks for the nice little adventure! This must be why all these old caches survive..intrepid journeys to get here. TFTC
Found on a trip down south to the Dunedin Mega with trayc.gsigned as MrMuggle or MM to save room..Thanks to the COs for all your caches. We had a blast. TFTC. My oldest cache found.
Accio 14:42:54My first visit to South Island. Over the ditch for the Dunedin Mega, and arrived about midnight in Christchurch, and after a very short sleep a quick 5 hours drive south and here I am - ready to rumble. Another oldie oldie on the list for this visit. Having checked out the lookout, I joined up with Fangsoki and Crew153 to trundle down the ridge path and up and over to here. Took a moment to zero in, and then the obvious container was spotted. All good here, live forever little cache! Thanks Donovan for entertaining me at this location. *{Overall find #12769}*
Pprime, Fangsoki and I met up in the car park and headed up the hill. Pprime went over the ridge and found the cache.TFTC Donovan
We came a more difficult way to get to this one but found the easier route on our way out. Thanks so much for keeping the cache going for so long, it's always great to find these old caches that are still going.
McLookers, Phetlern, feathertop, LuckyL10n and Sol de lune, and I were after the oldies so made a bee line for this cache. Great find in tough conditions by Sol de lune and LuckyL10n. Log signed by Aussies on Walkabout. Thanks for keeping this golden oldie going.
Arrived in town from Queenstown and met up with the group of McLookers, Phetlern, feathertop, LuckyL10n and Wombatwandering and headed off for the 4 old Dunedin caches. This was the first one and after a bit of a scramble the cache was soon in hand. Log signed and all was good. Many thanks for the cache Nemesis....great views, so a fav point added .
#21120 - 2:46:34 PM; Day three of the GeoToroa Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune and our better halves. After a couple of nights in Queenstown, today we are headed across to Dunedin for the Mega weekend. On arrival, we met up with some other "Aussies on Walkabout" (McLookers, feathertop, Pheltern and Wombatwandering) to collect the four local caches published in 2000, starting with this one, along with some others we passed along the way, before wrapping up the day at the Meet and Greet Event. Logs were signed "Aussies on Walkabout" or "AoW" on behalf of our group and were returned as found once stamped. This one was a bit further off the beaten track than we had expected, but that probably helps to explain its longevity in the game. TFTC Nemesis
Heading from Queesnstown to Dunedin for the Mega. Decided to go east via Omakua and Ranfurly, arriving in Dunedin from the north - doing caches and AL'ss along the way and this is was of them.Logs were signed as ''Aussies on Walkabout'Thanks to the CO for keeping the game board alive.38008
Out with woolwood9 heading to the MEGA in Dunedin.SL *tm/ww NZ* or tm/ww or with one of the groups we met at many of the caches. We enjoyed the drive / walk around and visit to this old cache! ????*Thanks for the fun cache.* ??
tmann421 and I are on our way south to attend the MEGA, picking up a few caches on the way.We enjoyed all the caches found and thank the cache owners for their efforts in maintaining these for us to findLog signed tm/ww NZTFTC
The Aussies on Walkabout were Dunedin bound stopping here and there to do labs and other assorted caches. The 4 old Dunedin caches were on our radar today and a pleasure to find them 24 years after placement. Our team of McLookers, Phetlern, wanderingwombat, LuckyL10n and Sol de lune. Stamped with the group stampCheers and a favourite for location and longevity..
Day eleven of our epic New Zealand Adventure with The Morris.Today we spent around Dunedin. We spent the morning doing some of the Plane Geo Art, had lunch at Outram, then returned to the city to do some of the older caches, with a few others in between.Finished the day with the event, and Indian take away.I think the highlights were the ones on Allanton - Scroggs Hill Road, the views were spectacular. This cache drew us to the Mount due to its age. Certainly not from the scratches. Thanks, Robmc.
We didn't come in the easiest way to this one but soon had the cache in hand anyway. Found a much better route out. Nice to have found this old cache with angelic_kiwi. Thanks for placing and maintaining
Grabbed this oldie and admired the views. Found with feathertop, Wanderingwombat, Phetlern, Sol de lune and LuckyL10n. Log signed Aussies on Walkabout. Thanks for placing the cache Nemesis.
On our way back north from Dunedin, we went for one more cache that promised an amazing view over the area. In the beginning it looked like the weather wasn't on our side as it was very foggy and the rain was blown in our faces by a strong, 3C wind.We made our way to the cache location and close to GZ we struggled a bit with the (very spikey) vegetation. In the end, we found our way through and the cache was found. The rain had stopped and while signing the log, the fog suddenly lifted and we were greeted by the anticipated views after all.Thank you for bringing us here. We are leaving our wedding TB here to start it's travels back to us in Germany over the next couple of years.
This one was kinda simple but as we drove higher and higher the weather got more and more wild with a thick fog and a strong cold wind. At about 37m from GZ we just had to go in one way or another, there was no good way it just needed to be done. At GZ on the rocks we made an instant find of the container and it was a battle to sign the logbook as my fingers started to freeze. A couple of videos were filmed of the absolute foul weather and then we were bush bashing back out to the path. In terms of a bush bash this was worse than flagstaff hill but definitely not as far (37m vs 200m).Nice to tick off a terrain 3 oldie. This completed the year 2000 caches in NZ and a huge sigh of relief as we navigated down the mountains to granny Annies Lolly shop where we bought $36 worth of candy. This cache was targeted as one being placed in 2000 and was on our list for the NZ trip. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for all of the years and TFTC
Today was our last morning in Dunedin and at the same time it is Saturday 17th of August 2024, international Geocaching day! So it was a must to go and find another 11/2000 cache. The plan was to go to the botanical garden first and to visit Baldwin street (steepest street of the world) afterwards. We skipped Baldwin street finally, but we made it and found the desired cache.Actually I was not aware of the international geocaching day, but I saw a event within the botanical garden. We saw the group splitting up after we came down from the cache so we moved on and did not interact, anyway we have been on a tight schedule today. After being back in the car we decided to skip Baldwin street and to go for a second 11/2000 cache as we have realised that bot caches we have found so far have been placed on 12/11. however Dunedin has 2 caches from 11/11. A little pity that I mixed them up and have chosen the one on Mount Cargill. This was actually the one I wanted to skip initially due to the harsh conditions close to the cache. However I just realised that after we have arrived on top of the mountain and I did not want to make this ride useless. So I jumped out of the campervan and started the short hike to a place close to the cache and then I jumped into the bushes and fought my way through, my GPS was jumping around, but finally after I went into wrong direction firstly I made my way to the rocks and suddenly stand in front of the cache jackpot. From the cache I was able to find a much easier way back, more in the cache log.TFTC which have been maintained for so long time.As I have started Lab caches recently I am not sure yet how to do the numbering of caches anymore, with or without Lab caches. Some more words to this special cacheit would always be good to read the whole listing, obviously I did not follow the easiest path to come close to the cache, but took the path which starts behind the TV/Radio tower not a good idea. BUT a lot roads head to Rome and finally I did it. My trousers and my winter jacket do not look good anymore, but I guess that after one round in the washing machine they will be good again. Got less wet than expected actually.TFTC, which allowed me my oldest cache find so far!
After two nights in Auckland for a flying visit to Hobbiton yesterday, we were first up the Sky Tower this morning before heading to the airport for a flight down to Dunedin. Having checked into our farmstay, I was keen to take the hire car up Mount Cargill! At over 600m, the three caches here will all jump onto my highest caches leaderboard. The views were stunning but it was a biting wind. This was the third & my main reason for visiting as this old cache fills my fourth last JASMER month. However, finding it was not straightforward. I tried approaching from the track to the west but the scrub was very dense & prickly. It was also very springy & resilient so any progress was hard work. I was also conscious of the rocks hidden in amongst it having already slipped once this evening. After several minutes battling away, I came to a clearer rockier area which looked promising. Indeed, reading some previous logs seemed to confirm that I was close & I was delighted to spot the cache shortly afterwards. There was water in the outer container but the logbook was dry enough so after tipping that out, I signed in, dipped my *Horses Around the World* geocoin which only visits caches older than 20 years & dropped off a *Polar Bear* tag which wants to go to cold places. This certainly fitted the bill today!Found at 17:09Cache #10337TFTC Donovan
Stopped at this cache while visiting **New Zealand**! [^]**My #151st visited Geocaching country!**---This cache was easily found and the logbook was signed. One more smiley face for me in the GEO map.Everything was in good condittion.Today I teamed up with **Wilbywarrior** to go on a little geo trip around Dunedin and Salt Lake to hunt for some Old and interesting caches. This cache was one of them.We drove up the mountain and parked about 200m away. Hardest part was the last 90m or so, when there was no trail anymore, just bushwacking using the compass and azimuth and pushing through obstacles like a tank. Awesome views from the cache place. We saw sunset there. I loved it.Definitely +1 FP from me.Thank you for hiding this cache and showing me this place! ---Greetings from ***Riga, Latvia***! On our twentieth day in New Zealand we drive from Dunedin to Christchurch. This beautiful and old cache was on our way.TFTCHennesAt the end comes the poem of the day.New Zealand By James K. One of the goals of this trip was to get New Zealand's old caches, and this one was we had on the list. We started out excited to trek to the cache and went down the small path to the beautiful views of Dunedin. We tried to find any path in, both from the track and the road, but ended up doing a brutal bushwhack to GZ. Those bushes are thick! Climbed up some rocks to GZ and there was the glorious cache. I just wonder what this area was like 24 years ago when this cached was placed. The terrain rating is definitely a 5 . Thanks for maintaining this oldie for all of us crazies to find. Fav point awarded.
Another great old cache that needs a visit! Thanks for the cache, and for maintaining it./herrFamaxe from Sweden
In the final week of what has been a 2.5 month working holiday through South East Asia and Oceania. She said that they were dropping gravel on the mountainside via helicopter and that the trail was inaccessible today. I told her I only need to go about 500 more feet. She was nice enough to let me park and make my way. While walking to GZ and searching for GZ, the helicopter flew over and back several times. The place where it was picking up gravel was right near where I parked. Boy that helicopter is loud though. Eventually, I got to GZ after a bit of a bushwack. I looked around for 10 minutes before spotting. It sure is thick up there. Another year 2000 cache down! Thanks a lot for the find.
After a while, it was finally time to visit some caches in distant countries again. This time the destination should be australia ???? and new zealand ???? What an amazing continent. The last part of the journey starts on the southern part of New Zealand ???? Our group (downunder24) visits beautiful places with the aim of collecting caches. It is very impressive. Thank you very much?? Greetings from Germany, muschel3 ??
Danke fr diesen Geocache. Danke fr die Ausarbeitung. Danke frs Zeigen.Lieber Gru aus Duisburg / DeutschlandAndyDieser Logeintrag wird mit Hilfe von Google bersetzt.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________We set off on a long journey with 37 geocachers from Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Three weeks to Australia and New Zealand, starting with a stopover in Doha, Qatar. I have never been so long and so far away from home. An exciting time. When geocaching, the focus was on many different cache types, but also special ratings, challenges and especially a few very old caches from the years 2000 and 2001. But also, of course, especially the geocaches that were easily accessible on foot from the hotel.Of course, the focus wasn't just on geocaching; the sights of the individual stations we visited also deserved attention. We entered our team name Downunder 2024 in the logbooks, saving logbook space and efficiently. It was a very special trip in a large team, which was also a lot of fun.Today we had until late afternoon to go geocaching in Dunedin. We then took the bus to Cromewell. Thanks for this geocache. Thanks for the elaboration. Thank you for showing me.Kind regards from Duisburg / GermanyAndyThis log entry is translated with the help of Google.

A total of 38 geocachers from Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland went on a long journey. Three weeks to Australia and New Zealand.I've been to New York and Hawaii, but this was going to be my furthest trip yet.The big goal was to get to know the continents with their natural characteristics and cultures. But we also wanted to find historical caches. Our first stop was Doha, Qatar. In Australia we visited Sydney, Melbourne and Cairns.Auckland, Rotuara, Wellington, Picton, Blenheim, Christchurch and Comwell were our stops in New Zealand. We ended our trip in beautiful Queenstown. To protect the logbooks, we logged with the team name Downunder 2024.It was a very special trip in a large team. Thanks for laying and maintaining the cache.
Found this cache on a 21-day trip to Australia and New Zealand with a night of stopover in Qatar. In Qatar we have an evening and almost a full day of geocaching before we take the long flight to Downunder. In Australia we will visit the cities of Sydney, Melbourne, and Cairns. This veteran "Mount Cargill (Dunedin, Otago)" was also at the to-do list. The journey there was already adventurous, and it got even more adventurous in the GZ. Since this cache was published, nature has continued to grow and expand. The search took a long time. But we didn't give up. After a long, long search, finally held the box in hands. It was a hard work. But for an old cache like this one, it's a pleasure. Thanks Donovan??
There was a lot to see and log on my trip through Australia and New Zealand, and this cache was one of them. We were a group of 38 and logged with "Team Downunder24" to save space in the logbook. Thanks says XenSuo

Seventh day in New Zealand ??. This is my first visit to this extraordinary country and the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream. In the past, it always failed due to the lack of a travel companion. Now I had the chance to join a large group of mainly German geocachers and I was delighted to take it. After a stopover in Qatar and 8 days in Australia, our journey continued from Auckland to Queenstown with various stopovers.**We still had enough time for a few caches before we left Dunedin this afternoon. The main target was the old ones from 2000, but of course there was plenty of by-catch. This oldie really was a tough nut to crack. The vegetation has probably changed a lot over the years. We searched for a long time on the hill according to the clue, consulted log photos and turned over every stone three times without discovering the can. Fortunately, others in our group were more successful and now our team abbreviation DownUnder24 is also in this logbook ??.**Thanks for laying & taking care for such a long time .Siebter Tag in Neuseeland ??.

Together with 36 other geocachers, the KiSt team undertook a very long trip to Australia ???? and New Zealand ???? for three weeks. On both the outward and return journeys, there was a stopover in Doha, the capital of Qatar ????.We experienced a great deal on this trip and gained many very different impressions of the two countries, their nature and their culture. Of course, the main focus was on visiting as many caches of as many different types as possible and also all accessible old cans. However, we also made sure to visit many special places of interest and to gain as comprehensive an impression as possible of nature and its flora and fauna. To save the logbooks, we usually signed in with our team name **Downunder24**. For "special" cans, however, we have not missed the opportunity to leave our nickname as well. This beautiful cache is now also one of our finds.Due to the large number of caches visited, it is unfortunately not possible for us to write an individual log for each can, which is why we would like to apologize to the owners for this collective log.We also met other cachers at some of the events and were able to share our experiences. Many thanks to the event owners!Of course we would like to thank all the owners for showing us the great locations, the sometimes tricky puzzles, exciting multis and wherigos, as well as the interesting virtuals and earth caches - TFTC!!!---In der Besetzung KiSt unternahmen wir zusammen mit 36 weiteren Geocachern fr drei Wochen eine sehr weite Reise nach Australien ???? und Neuseeland ????.
I have traveled with 37 geocachers to Australia and New Zealand resulting in lots of opportunities for sightseeing and geocaching. The Teammembers are:gc, AndyausDu, AmoebeST, B@cker-1, Biggidag, Brummelbren, CacherReisen,CacheTaucher, cooljo, Fotopinguin, Freizeit-Tina, Gazelle5111, GEOKaren, GoanToni, HFo, hupsi-1, karrai *, keeiner, Leilah03, lenny love,Lupus54, Maxipimpf, muschel3, Ollilein, Opaundenkel, penalty96, Rheins,Simowl, sozioma, Sr. Elli, Team Zyanor, viko76, Webmasterrollerin,Whlhase, XenSuo.The logbooks were mostly signed under the teamname "Team DownUnder24" and answers were sent to owners for the group, as appropriate. This has been a great trip with a multifold of new impressions and experiences.During our stay in New Zealand we had also the opportunity to visit some caches. This cache was also among our finds today. Thanks for leading us here and showing and thanks for the cache.
My third week-long getaway this summer has me down in Queenstown for a few days of supporting the New Zealand brewing industry (and support it I have) followed by a few days in Dunedin supporting some of the influx of students into Otago university. Its a tough week, with only minimal time for Geocaching, but this was one I found.A good part of today was about finding some of the area's oldies, and this was one of the high priority ones. Couldn't find an easy way to get to the search area, so I took a difficult way instead. Once I was up there I thought I saw an easy way for the return trip, but that turned out to be difficult too. It surprised me how much the GPS jumped around up here, one second it was saying 2m and the next it was saying 12m. As a result, I spent a lot of time going back and forth. I got very close to phoning a recent finder, when, as I was peering into yet another bush I had already peered into a few times, I finally spotted some non-natural material. Cache is still in great shape.---Thanks to Donovan for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.
Natst je vrchol drive in. Staila anabze s poslednmi 50 m ke kece. Tern pern. Heben kopce pokryt kameny a soustavnou zelen typu kle a sukulenty. After the morning rain ended, I went to hunt for other old caches around Dunedin. First to Mt. Cargill and that was hard work. I was walking through the jungle of plants taller than me for almost an hour before I found a completely unexpectedly loose cache in the bushes. My shoes and pants were completely wet and I was completely exhausted. But all's well that ends well. The main thing is that I didn't fall anywhere, because sometimes I couldn't see where I was stepping at all. Another cache from November 2000 is at home ! Thanks for the cache and greetings from Czech republic. OUT TB.
Found with MacBayMeri today. Thanks for hiding this one so long ago, and for keeping it going.
At recent geocaching events, I met people who have travelled across the world to find some of the old caches that are still live in Dunedin. So I was pretty embarrassed that I hadn't even looked for this one yet. Then a few weeks ago, MrMagoo72 and I decided to head up to try to find it ... but when we turned into Cowan Road, a sign told us the road was closed and was open to residents only - so we had to leave it for another day. Today was that day: we had a free afternoon and the sun was shining, so off we went, taking the hint to park at the top carpark and then walking up the 4WD track, before veering off into the bush for the last few (50 or so) metres. The views were breathtaking from the ridge, but then we realised we still had some work to do. It was very helpful to see the photo that Retired Guy had posted, as it gave us an idea of what we were looking for. And once our GPS told us we were 3m from the cache, it didn't take long to spot it. We signed the log, left a trackable, and returned everything as found. Once you are in the right area, it won't take long to spot. A fav vote from me.
# #7,067 #----------Probably, without a doubt, one of the hardest geocaches Ive ever found. I drove up to about 90 meters from GZ as most people Im sure do. My mind was still frustrated after that failure over at Flagstaff. So seeing another tough bushwhack really wasnt making me feel great. However, this was just roughly 50 meters of it so off I went. It took me about 30 minutes to get to GZ. Once there, it was a rough search around every bush, rocked hole I could find. Nothing. I felt awful and sick. At least with Flagstaff, I had failed to get close to GZ. But to get to GZ here and not find the cache really made me upset and frustrated.I started fighting my way out the bush and by absolute pure chance, there it was! It wasnt at its hint item or near GZ at all. Maybe it got moved by an animal or something but I felt so happy, I could cry. Cache all signed and placed back according to the hint. So glad to tick this one off, especially after that battle with the bush. TFTC!!! ----------> All geocaches are signed as mmmPIZZA or mPZ
Awesome spot. Actually my second time finding this cache, both times I went in a straight line from the car, definitely easier ways to get this cache. Thanks for the placement.
Cache 1604 First stop of day 2 caching Dunedin/Oamaru, time to grab an oldie. I skipped this one on an earlier trip as I was to sore at the time to tackle the bush bash. Today was a different story quick drive up the hill and parked in the top car park walked back towards the cache and up the old 4wd track only 54m off so it was a quick bush bash semi following the elephant trail left by lots of visitors to the cache, cache is in good shape T4TC
Today we planned to vistit the 4 geocaches in this area which are placed in 2000. I like the old ones. This was the second one, a very scenic drive and walk to this geocache, unfortunately got a very hard hail and rain shower, had to go back to the car for a shelter. After a few minutes it went dry again and we could manage to find the cache. Thanks for placing and maintaining this geocache,Greetings from team Camperfietser, Favo added.
Out and about on day 8 of my South Island Tour and day 2 of "Wellingtonions Gone South: Dunedin Edition" with NZ_B, TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Itchyfeet2020 and matagouri. The target of this day was mainly Flagstaff Hill, Mt Cargill and some other caches around the area. All logs signed as MINT. TFTC
A group of friends have traveled together to Dunedin to collectively target a whole bunch of caches, primarily because of their value in terms of Jasmer Grid filling, or for certain Challenge Caches that we have elected to try to achieve.M.M.I.N.T.T are Mr-Mcgoo, matagouri, Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, taybee nz and TwigNZ. Some logs were signed this way, some were signed as M.I.N.T for expediency, and some (mainly Challenge Caches) were signed with individual names.Having spent the morning walking up Flagstaff Hill to get the old cache there, as well as GC31PYY, we were out and about again this arvo looking to get this particular cache and any other nearby caches and AdLabs. So here we were. Over the last 2 days we have been to Sutton Salt Lake, Flagstaff Hill, the Botanical Gardens, and finally (for me) to Mt Cargill. Another bush bash to get to GZ, but fairly trivial by comparison to some we have done. I thought I had the right location (2m away, and a perfect Hint item right in front of me) but it was Itchyfeet who made the find a few more metres away. Man you should have seen the smile on her face All was fine here, so once the team name was added to the log the whole lot was replaced as found, some photos were taken, and then it was time to head up to the mast.Thank you for placing this cache, all those years ago
(# 8312) The Wellington crew are on another mission. Included are Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, TwigNZ, Matagouri and TaybeeNZ. As usual quite a bit of hilarity. Day 2 was more local. Up here to grab this old one. A nice little bush bash to get on site. Signed as MINT.Thanks Donovan for bringing me here.
A visit to Dunedin by Wellington geocachers NZ_B, Itchyfeet2020, TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Taybee NZ, and myself. Signing as Team MINT, targeting old caches, Wherigos, and whatever else we can find.Another on our list of venerable caches to find. Parked as close to GZ as possible, but a bush bash still required from the track to GZ. A short search before Itchyfeet2020 made the find. Superb views from the ridge. FP from me. No problems inside the container. Tftc!
Day 2 of our Dunedin Adventure. Six welly cachers have arrived with lots of plans and caches to find. Watch out Dunedin. This was on the list for the Old School Challenge. We parked up and just started up when a guy with a four wheel drive and a huge smile came down. Used the trail for a bit and then decided to go for it. Got to see some tiny heads in the bush with a view of a life time behind them. Cache duly found and signed. All logs signed as MINT.
Bl**dy Hell. That was an adventure [:p]1MinnieMoo pulled up in the wrong spot to start with. Thirty metres of gorse was not making friends. Then we realised we should have done it from the top. DUH.So we attempted from the top. We managed to get within about 15 metres of the cache - and then it was "every man for himself". We got to GZ and spotted the prize and signed the log.The trip out was terrible. I ended up bulldozering through gorse to get out. I'm sure there is a better way to do this one - but 1MinnieMoo and I were glad to have prevailed with this. I'll take that Terrain "3" thank you very much [:p]TFTC Nemesis

Day 5 of the Fangsoki/1MinnieMoo NZ adventures. We have a few days in Dunedin and today the priority goal was 4 particular old caches, this being the second of those. And what an effort. After 3 attempts at different approaches we finally made it to the right area. And then had to once more find our way through. Eventually, victory!! And moments later the cache was found and logbook signed.
Well we were certainly made to earn our stripes for this oldie!
Thanks for the cache Nemesis.

My 1000th find. Couldn't have picked a more memorable cache. Bit of bush bashing. Spectacular views- well worth the climb with Rayzr. Tftc
Number 4000 for me and what a special cache to make the occasion. A bit of a bush bash and quite surprised there were no elephant tracks to follow. Cache in perfect condition thanks to those maintaining this elderly cache
We came out today to explore Mount Cargill and find one of the oldest caches laid. We had a couple of goes at finding our way in, not helped by the mist coming down. Our second attempt had the phone counting down the metres which was exciting, in between bush bashing our way in. Got to the top of the ridge and found the cache, wow in awesome condition. So happy to sign this log. Thanks for this cache Donovan, a fav from us.
Arriving in Dunedin and then on to Naseby for a wee Easter school family holiday.
Overcast and a bit cold windy in the afternoon as we arrived. Forecast for the next few days not so flash so pottered up here to finally try and find this old cache before heading to our accommodation. Wind was howling and the cloud was getting low. Not especially nice weather! Parked up on the side of the road next to the southern 4x4 track. Walked up and followed a fairly clear goat track in through the scrub to the first ridge, then along the ridge a wee bit then another wee track to the clear ground just to the south of the cache...then a fairly quick find and sign. Easy as! Thanks. Took the two TBs.

I first tried the trail that runs north of the cache and could get within 40 meters but didn't see a way in. I then hiked up the road and used the next trail, bushwacked my way to the ridge above the cache, and then followed the ridge down. Much harder than I expected. Thanks for keeping this old one alive.

spent 6 great weeks in New Zealand with my The start was a bit bumpy (Cyclone Gabrielle) but then it got better and better. We travelled to both islands and discovered a lot. We photographed and filmed many beautiful things, but most of it stayed in our hearts.
Almost everywhere we stopped, a cache was already waiting for us. Most of the caches are well maintained and easy to find.
With mostly very nice weather, we saw a lot of this impressive island. In many places, caches were waiting for us, which were sometimes easy and sometimes difficult to find. This cache was also included and was successfully signed
We puzzled a lot in advance and the tours were well prepared
So this box was also well found.
now I have another on my personal cache card.
many thanks to [^] **Nemesis** [^] for the effort and the cache and greetings from Germany

This is my fourth geocaching excursion to **beautiful New Zealand**!
Due to Covid [xx(] I had to wait for 3 long years to again return to my beloved Middle-Earth [xx(].
This time its a road trip enduring for 26 days, covering both North- and South-Island.
Once arrived in beautiful Dunedin [:X], today was my "Oldie, Challenge and Climbing"-day .
This geo-treasure contributed to the finds of today. Cool! [^]
It was quite a bit of a challenge to get to the GZ - but the find was rewarding .
Glad I found it!
A big thanks to the owner Donovan [:X] for hiding and long-term maintaining this cache [^] - and best regards from Germany !

Today we went up the mountain. We enjoyed a fantastic view. The way to the can was very arduous. Nevertheless, we were able to find them.
The inside of my cache was nice and dry. The waterproof inner container was missing both clips, but I managed to refit the one that I found within the outer container. The outer container has lost some of its clips, but was still doing its job well. Cheers, Donovan
Today we walked from Bethune's Gully up to Mount Cargill and we were lucky to catch some views before the clouds arrived. On the way back i turned into the bushes and was lucky to find this cache fast.
