Since the walk today for the Wednesday walkers was the Orokonui Lagoon Walk I decided to incorporate some cache maintenance and geocaching into the trip north. After the walk it was a short trip north to the carpark for the walk to this cache. No trouble spotting the rock out of place with the cache lurking behind. All nice and dry. Thanks.
We made the right choice about where to go for an outing this afternoon - north of Leith Saddle it was away from the southerly and we quickly shed a few layers. However we made the wrong route choice when we thought we could follow the old track up the true right of the stream. Last time we did that it only needed a bit of stepping around the rocks but there's been a lot of water through since then... two big trout didn't want to be photographed...okay, retreat and get wet feet. Quick find at the title location, although a trifle smaller than expected (but don't change the size rating, I beg you!) Prelocated the other one on the way back - we will return!
Perfect hiding place, just as it says, 5 m from track. Thanks for this new cache:)
An easy find thank you; I spied the hidey hole from several metres away. The track is a little damp today but thanks to waterproof socks in my trail runners - and the stepping stones on the two creek crossings - my feet are cosy warm. TFTC.
Gps was suggesting 25m at a likely spot. Accuracy was 17m so in we went for a quickie.
On my way past as part of an OTMC walk from Black Gully Dam to Evansdale Glen. The gorge can play havoc with GPS so thought where would I hide it and BOOM!
GPS was indicating well up the bank, well beyond the 5m suggested on the page. Using the "Where would I hide one here" approach we found it using the distance on the page rather than what GPS was saying. Was last up here about 16 months ago (also for a cache) and the track is much more overgrown in places than then. TFTC.
(FTF) #187 @ 10:19. Heard the goats again while getting to GZ. Looked at the wrong spot first and then expanded my search to find the cache and as expected, another blank logbook. Thanks for the cache, sbedydnas#5400 ** Make your way to Dunedin for New Zealands next large multi-day event. GCA7ZHD Geo Toroa will be held on NZs Labour Day long weekend 26-27th October 2024 **
