This was such a fun cache. It would have better if it wasn't the end of a tiring day caching, but it was still fun!Long story but along with GeohoundandI, I got a FTF on a similar cache in Dunedin because we found the cache on a beach about to be eaten by a sealion and rescued it (OK there wasn't a sealion, but the cache had fallen from somewhere and ended up there). So I knew the method for opening it. This one took slightly longer than I would have liked, and maplerosenz learnt a few choice swear words that she'd never heard me utter before as I was trying to get it open. My feet started to go numb from standing on a bit of a slope, but I didn't want to sit on the damp ground. But I did get all of the layers unlocked. Once the log was signed and replaced I struggled to get it back together properly, so in the end we retreated to the car. I managed to get most of it back before giving up. Maplerosenz's contribution was finishing off putting it back together and replacing it.
On a day trip to Whakapapa with flossieteacake and a list of interesting-looking caches to find!We were very lucky with the weather, which was perfect, if a little too hot - who'd a' thought it...?This one was hard work! With two people looking, we found it pretty quickly. Once in hand, we debated whether to go and sit in the car while working out how to get into this one. No, we thought, it won't take THAT long! I reckon a good 8-10 minutes to get in and 5-7 minutes to put it back together.Cache in good order, all nice and snug. Thanks for the cache, timbermills ,';*={thanks}-*;', ,;:*(thanks}:*;*:{thanks}*:;, ,;{thanks}:;:*{thanks}:;:{thanks);, `;:{thanks};:{thanks}:;{thanks}:;' `*&;:{thanks}:;:{thanks},:;&*' `-+;:*{thanks}*:;+-` `-\\\||///-' __ \\||// __ / `------' \ | }-(______)-{ | \___/ |||| \___/ /_, |||| ,_\
**22,292**We were in the area dropping off a puppy to a new owner so thought we would grab a couple of caches. This one had us going back and forth, around and around with the GPS leading us a merry little dance. Part of the problem was that we had assumed the hint referred to a fallen not a still standing!! We had finally become desperate and decided to ask for the help of a previous finder when Mrs Geckoh spotted the caches hidey hole. Happy to say, that although the task took us a couple of minutes, far more time was spent searching for the cache than opening the container. A clever cache and a fun adventure. TFTC
Needed to fill in a dot day and decided to stop here for what I hoped was a quick pee stop.Finding the cache was the easy part, even without any GPS.Then the fun started. Just when I thought I was in, it started again. Then just when I thought I was in, it started again, again.Log was dry and in good condition.Putting it back together allowed me to study the maze and made it a quick job.A truly amazing cache and definitely worthy of a fav point.Google navigation tells me my arrival time only changed by 6minutes, so didn't take me too long. Thanks for something different. Now where can I buy one of those? .
I was heading down to Taupo to take part in the Taupo Ultramarathon, running 24km from Kinloch to Waihopai Bay on the W2K mountain bike trails. I left a couple of days earlier for some geocaching while I was in the area.I had hoped to get up Whakapapa and maybe take the gondola up to the cafe and find the caches along Bruce Road. Well, the weather had other plans. It was apparently very windy and wet up the mount, so everything was closed for the day and only 4WD or 2WD with chains could continue past Whakapapa village. Alas, my plans ended up changing a bit, so I will have to return in warmer weather.Heading to Turangi to check into my accommodation while stopping for a few caches along the way. I was lucky that there was hardly any traffic along here so I could safely pull over on the shoulder close by GZ. With all the recent rain the route I took to GZ and the ground around the cache was very soggy.Found the cache container easily and then the fun started. I spent quite a few frustrating minutes going nowhere, quickly but then found a system to help me. Then the frustration kicked in again and again as I made my way closer and closer to the log. This cache was truly evil, and I'm thankful that the rain held off while I was working on this cache. I spent far longer here than I expected but the relief when the log sheet was exposed was short-lived when I remembered that I needed to put it back together. Was almost at the point of giving up, but persistence paid off in the end.
Sussed out GZ last week, so stopped for a crack at the puzzle since we had a bit of spare time on our way in to town today. We took it 5 minute turns, but the other half got extra time & the glory at 21 minutes. Funnily, he had no joy in putting it back together, but I managed it within my 5 minutes ( so 10 to re-assemble) .Thanks for the fun puzzle!
Took ages to find, as GPS bouncing all around, but finally found the correct Dead giant ( seems more accurate than Former giant) Oh so close to cracking the puzzle, but had pressing business in town, so called it quits.
Took a while to find container, soon bored with the puzzle so left it for another visit when we have more time.
Excellent puzzle! Really enjoyed it. GPS jumped a lot but we persevered and eventually found it.
Turangi was our chosen destination for Easter this year and today we were out attempting the last few unfound caches in town. Nice secluded place to complete the business, really enjoyed this one, what better way to spend time in the bush, fav point awarded TFTC.
Thanks timbermills for the cache! Luckily there is a person in our team who is good in this type of field puzzle
We were watching the nearby Poutu trail as it was getting published. Tuesday was a public holiday brilliant lets go caching Fap and Gap, Squirrel Nutcase and I decided to head south. The weather was perfect overcast in the morning so not to hot. Backpack with water and snacks and we set off. All caches were found in good condition thanks for the hide. FP here took us a while to get to the log all of us taking turns then putting it back together as we found.
this was a very interesting puzzle cache.gps wondered a lot here until i found container.many hands make light work but still took us a while to get opened.just as much fun putting it back together.TFTC
With Davidson Clan and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Tuesday has rolled around again and today is a public holiday. Every find is super important to us and counts towards us completing the All Week 400 - Challenge (GCAHJZQ)According to my reckoning, this should have been my 400th Tuesday cache - The last of the Mohicans... Right away, it took a lot of grunt work to find the cache. Once located and opened, we immediately knew this puzzle was going to be troubleI started the ball rolling and partially amazed myself, but found the need to go backwards instead of forwards. Frustrated, I handed the cache to (Mr) DC and he made better progress. After a shared effort, the layers were peeled back to reveal the cache - Hot work, even in the shelter of the bush! A frustratingly beautiful field puzzle - Thanks timbermills. TFTP and TFTC.
What a great surprise to wake up to.... a new cache hunt not far from home, Paua remembers exploring around this track many years ago, just to see where it went and its changed a bit but still a lovely spot in the bush. It had rained a little overnight and everything looked so alive and clean. Paua ventured forth and found the cache much quicker than expected, then FMZ took over the challenge and we were both amazed how quickly he conquered the cache, with FMZ doing the signing while Paua enjoyed the fresh green forest, there are some beautiful trees in here. Thanks for placing this cache, brings back so many memories of other cache finds and adventures around this area, including a midnight cache run in the falling snow. A very enjoyable joint FTF . What an amazing spot!! TFTC.
Saw this new cache pop up in the morning but work came first. Upon getting an opportunity to get up there, we drove up into the clouds, parked up safely off the road and headed into the bush. The cache was quickly spotted in it's secure little hidey hole. It was as expected, or at least 1 of the two types of field puzzle I predicted it might be, but it was a little bit more fun to open than I have seen previously. Still, it was just a few minutes and we were inside and signing the log for a joint [FTF] with punga & paua. Giving it a FP for being a little bit more fun than a standard hide! TFTC!!!
