We decided to walk around Valley Lake.today, but it was unpleasantly windy, which spoiled the walk a bit. I had a look at a few patches of bare crater wall and tried to work out some answers, but I am no geologist. I just hope my answers are OK.
Once everyone had arrived for my Earthcache Day event, a group of us (scramping, Cruiser95, EL900, TT016, PrincessAria1, LittleGoose, and puponyx) ascended the hill. We all discussed the rocks in front of us. scramping is going to send the answers on behalf of the group. I have now climbed this hill a few times this year. It does not get any easier, but the views are amazing, especially since the fire a few years back burnt all the trees. Thanks, Freddo, for setting up this Earthcache for our enjoyment.
Found after the loooong walk up the hill, note to self I need to get fitter...lol. The views were stunning going up, on both sides of the track. Last time I was up this track one side was all trees and scrub now it's clear to see all the amazing green paddocks and Mount Shank. We all studied the geological site area of GZ and after discussion, we agreed on what we thought the answers to the questions were. I am sending answers for myself, hevwalker, TT016, LittleGoose, PrincessAria, Cruisers95 and EL900
That was a big hill but I walked all the way and looked at the rocks with my family.
It was hard walking up the big hill but I got there with only 1 stop on the way. We had a look at the rocks and scramping sent the answers.
13/10/2024 1:51:00 PMI grabbed a Bahn Mi and found a nice spot overlooking Green Lake, then with some time to kill before the nearby event I took a stroll up to Centenary Tower, to grab the required info before heading back down to join the event at the car park. Not a steep as I remember the road but not carry a backpack full of rock, may have helped. Thanks Freddo for placing and maintaining this ECFind recorded using GCDroid and logged using GSAK
It's a warm and windy day in Mount Gambier. Though it started to drizzle as we descended. TFTC!
Done Hevwalkers Earthcache Event as a group Scramping will be sending group answers to you Thanks Freedo great walk up the hill on a very windy day here .
I had a good time walking to the tower, and then I found plenty of caches up here to make the walk even more worth it. Answers have been sent. Hopefully, they're all correct (or good enough). Thanks for adding this EC here!
TFTC! My third time up here I think now. Hadnt looked for any caches on previous visits. Tired legs after golf this morning!
Visited with GSEL on our epic Aussie trip, driving from Adelaide to Melbourne (he is much better organised then I am, so wrote up his caches much more rapidly than I did)! Anyway, finally dusted off the memory banks, found the photos lurking on the phone, and with a bit of internet research had enough info to satisfy myself, and more importantly the CO.Wow it was a slog up here on what was a very hot day. hadn't realised we were that high up until I spotted a raptor of some sort circling BELOW us over the lake... but the views from up here are well worth the effort, so thank you for bringing us up here to admire them and learn something about how they appeared!
Found this with gridge98 during a lovely weekend away in Mount Gambier. We were here this weekend to celebrate Dan's 500th Parkrun. Thanks for the cache!
Well it was only this morning morgo the geo was talking about these different layers and how good an earth cache would be about them, Freddo had beaten him to it here, that is one steep hill.Today after attending parkrun in Mount Gambier for Morgo the Geos 500th run, courtneyrose_ and I found a few caches around town before heading out with Morgo the Geo to check out the Tantanoola caves and find a few caches in the areaThanks for the cache
We are travelling with richlink on our Annual Caravan Geocaching trip, using geocaching as our guide. We are in Beautiful Mt Gambier for a few days, soaking up the amazing things this area has to offer. We especially love the bush, back roads, and the wild southern seas. TFTC LNCU.
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA on. SA caching foray. Staying in Mount Gambier for a week to grab some of the local hides. Its been sixteen years since since we were last here so enjoying the re-visit. Wow this area is amazingly beautiful. Thanks for the hide Prof FreddoLNCU
Made the climb to the top with grim determination and was rewarded with magnificent views. Grateful the tower itself was not open as any more altitude and Id probably get a nosebleed. Absolutely fascinating. Tftc
Next day of our roadtrip. Today we're driving about 350km from Meningie to Mount Gambier. The first stretch is quite long and lonely along Coorong NP. Then we pass Kingston, Robe, Millicent and arrive finally at Mount Gambier. Great views everywhere and of course we pick up a few caches along the way. Quite a steep walk up, but the views are worth it. Volcanism is always interesting, we love visiting these geologic features, no matter where in the world. Back home in Switzerland it's rare to find anything like that. Answers sent and hopefully correct. Thanks and kind regards from Switzerland, Hinni&Simo
A February Mega brought us to Adelaide. Our group is traveling together and signing any logs as 6 for QLD.Today we are working from Mount Gambier as our base. Which of course brings us to the picturesque lakes and the surrounds. We have been here years ago BC (Before Caching), so another visit for different purpose.Answers collected and sent on behalf of our group. TFTEC, Freddo. I enjoyed this EC.
#14,532. Infoferret and I flew over to Adelaide to attend the Great Leap Forward Mega Event. Have had a really fun time exploring Adelaide and region with geocaching as our guide. Making our way down to Melbourne we stopped to do some earthcaches and virtual caches on the way. As these take time to find all the information requested and internet access has been lacking at some of our el cheapo motels, I have left the write-ups until back in New Zealand. This was walked on an oppressively hot day and the hill climb was one to suck the moisture out of your body and fry the brain. Hopefully I looked critically enough at the various earthcache features. Snapped plenty of photos to jog the memory. Have sent the answers requested by message board to the CO. What a cool place to visit. I never knew Australia had volcanic activity happening only 5000 years ago. Thanks Freddo for encouraging us to spend time in this area.
After collecting our answers we enjoyed the views very nice! How interesting this geological formation is! Thank you for opening our eyes and making us more aware of our surroundings yet again.
Found with loci612Woke up in Mount Gambier today with no real destination, but a big list of caches! Ended up just up the road in Millicent, but still several hundred kilometres travelled as we detoured down to the coast.---**This Cache:**A great hike up here, and an interesting feature just off the track that we otherwise may not have noticed! Lots of good reading in the description before we made our observations and loci612 sent them off to the CO for us both. Pic also uploaded to my log! Thanks for the EC

6 months ago, during a frenzy, we said to ourselves "why not going to the mega in Adelaide for the leapday". From scratch we moved on to preparing an 18-day project in Australia. Our objectives are simple, visit a small part of this immense continent while validating a few caches. There are so many caches (impossible to do everything) that we will select. Our plan will allow us to visit Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Mount Gambier and finish in Adelaide for the famous Mega.During our stay we will log PestiHoot for Pestinette and Blackhoot.Today, we visite quickly Mount Gambier.WE stop once to take picture to sunset. Thanks for cache and the discovery of beautiful or original spots
**Today:**Found with DSDMy first ever day in South Australia Woke up in Mount Gambier today with no real destination, but a big list of caches! Ended up just up the road in Millicent, but still several hundred kilometres travelled as we detoured down to the coast! The biggest goal of today, and the entire trip, was finishing my AUSMER! We found not only one, but two caches in my final month I needed! Its been a multi-year challenging journey, so good for it to be finished! ---**This Cache:**A great hike up here, and an interesting feature just off the track that we otherwise may not have noticed! Lots of good reading in the description before we made our observations and sent them off to the CO. Pic also uploaded to my log! Thanks for the EC
Thanks for the earthcache. It is beautiful up here. A bit steep on the assent.
First *Filser1* and I caught our breath, then we enjoyed the fantastic view. We then set about answering the CO's questions, which my travelling companion then sent out.T4TEarthcache
Today TEMBO! and I visited the "Craitbul's Ovens". We enjoyed the view and collected the requested information. It is very impressive to go back in the History. Thanks to Prof Freddo for hiding and maintaining the cache.T4TC Filser1
