Logs
Finally checked if this one was still here, as expected it wasn't. We have replaced the Geocache and placed it somewhere near, we have also changed the difficulty and terrain rating.Happy caching!
Coordinates changed from:S 41 17.251 E 174 43.370Coordinates changed to:S 41 17.250 E 174 43.364Distance from original: 28.0 feet or 8.5 meters.Changed the cache location
Gave up after 5mins of searching. Pleased to report there were at least three kids on the bike track!
Took some time but did not find, A previous log also suggested a DNF following a clean up of the area, however I have no knowledge of that activity. I did find a small, empty plastic bag that may once have been part of a cache, but could not spot any other evidence for this one, 3/4 in Karori today.
Geokid found it three days ago when collecting garbage with his scouts group. But when I tried to log it today, we couldnt find it again. Might have fallen victim to another eager scouts cub.
While geohound kept guard I got to work. It was a quick-ish search but was still feeling frustrated about a prior DNF. With footsteps crossing the bridge and my very stealthy red backpack hiding me from everyone I found what I was after and had it quickly returned and on my way. Tftc
(10112) There was a need to do a little bit of caching today to keep my numbers up. No problem finding this one..Thanks Duck_Caches for taking the time to place the cache and for bringing me here.
Maybe cause its my first time geocaching but it was a DNF got on my hands and knees and looked around for ages but still nothing hopefully better luck next time.
Another visit, another DNF. Phone refused to settle, so checked all the trees in the general area without success
#15,127. Park, walk and grab in Karori Park in Karori, Wellington. The GZ was fortunately all quiet at the time of our visit. Found after a short search. Well hidden. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. #14,778. I am with agcnz on this one. The FTF chase does carry with it risks you will spend ages looking in the wrong area. Glad I didn't waste my time looking over the other side of the bike park. Today I had planned to go up to the Kapiti Coast but the forecast was for rain this afternoon so changed my plans. Already had some light drizzle falling by the time I got here. I crossed over the bridge and started checking around some trees. Got a nice scratch on the head for my troubles. But the cache was felt in the 2nd place checked. All good here. Signed the logsheet and replaced the container as found with natural camo on top. Should be a safer hiding spot here. Thanks Duck_ Caches for the new placements in the area.
It's taken a fair amount of time to get this cache into a stable findable state so finally I was able to make a return here for a look see. The new location seems pretty good and, as far as I can tell, the coords are sufficiently accurate to keep you in the right area. GSEL hid the cache pretty well and I did not find it first time even though I looked in the correct place in the second place I tried. The cache did not hide as a well when I returned it so I'm not sure how he did that! Or maybe it's just that thing where the cache seems more obvious once you know where it is. Anyway, TFTC and fixing its initial problems.
My original plan for this extra day added to the weekend was to stay at home and do home things, but that plan was abandoned when I was called into work this morning. After dealing with the situation there, since I was already out and about, I decided to do a lap of Wellington and find a few of the recent geocaches that I hadn't got around to finding yet.I have been trying to get out here and find this cache since publication, but every time I had the time to do so it seemed to be missing. Not today though, and despite the number of hint objects in the area it was soon found.---Thanks to Duck_Caches & Bot_Caches for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.
Coordinates changed from:S 41 17.242 E 174 43.352Coordinates changed to:S 41 17.251 E 174 43.370Distance from original: 98.9 feet or 30.1 meters.Changed coordinates from S 41 17.242 E 174 43.352 to S 41 17.251 E 174 43.370.
I couldn't believe it - I arrived in Karori without my phone. I had my GPSr but it's never up to date so wouldn't have the updated coordinates. But wait... by some miracle I'd updated the pocket queries last weekend and this cache was last updated before that... so we're on! I manually loaded the new coordinates, checked the hint... then had to check every single hint object before I found what I was after. Well, I should have relied on the coordinates a bit more - they were spot on for me. I got there. The location was nice and secluded - no problems with people even though there was a Sunday girls football league match on the turf on the south side, Sunday dog walkers on the park on the north side, and a preschooler on a 12" wheel bike churning out laps on the pump track on the west side. (Until he couldn't get over one of the bumps and threw a tantrum, declaring it the worst bike trip he'd ever ever done.) The only downside was there was a bit of rubbish around, including broken glass, but I didn't have anything with me I could use to remove it. TFTC
Fixed the Geocache and replaced it somewhere near, the new coordinates are S 41 17.251'E 174 43.370'.
We are going to try to put this one back here later next week if we get the time!
I'd been deferring a a visit to Karori for a while assuming this would come back online at some stage. Maybe this should be archived if there no intention to replace it. 3 months is too long to leave disabled.
Probably wont have time to put another cache here, it was very quick for the first one to go missing so we dont know if its worth it to put another one here.
Surveyed the carnage left by the previous searchers, and then made a pretty straightforward find. Main issue was avoiding looking suspicious to the kids using the bike park. Tftc!
Headed over here this afternoon in hopes of a quick find (Yeah right). First looked at the original location, where I could see plenty of evidence of the previous search. THEN I read the logs in detail. Tried Twig's coordinates, which put me further up the track, but couldn't decide between two options. I gave both of those a good going over, but came away empty handed. Will give it another try when I have a fresher brain.
Hehehe.... one of the benefits of not being a FTF addict is that if there are initial issues with a cache, you get a bunch of nice people who go in and solve all the problems for you . Came for a walk to here this morning, TwigNZ's coordinates were dead accurate and took me straight to the correct tree. The cache was then found quite easily. Signed log, thanks for the cache, and I then continued along the track and up to the Skyline Trail (windy!!!) to check on a few of my own caches there.
A joint [FTF] after alot of searching and having a mini CITO. I may have removed a 1m2 patch of tradescantia while searching for this cache. In the end it was found after searching about 13-16m away from GZ. TFTC
TwigNZ and I had attended a geocaching event in town, then headed out to find a cache. Found that, and were walking along a bush track to another when I got a publish alert. Quickly we U-turned and came here, stopping only to pick up Itchyfeet2020, who lives nearby. We get here and end up doing a pretty good job of clearing trandiscantia from around the base of all the trees here. After a half hour search we are thinking of giving up when the Taybees arrive. That reguvenated the hunt, but after another 15 minutes TwigNZ put a call out to the CO - just to make sure we are hunting in the right place. Well, eventually we do find the cache, about 12m from the published coordinates, nicely hidden at a place I would swear I had checked!Found in the deep dark night by torchlight. Nice area. Many thanks for the cache!{FTF} With TwigNZ, Itchyfeet2020, Taybee, and taybee nz.
Joint {FTF} @ 22:21 with Itchyfeet2020, the Seagnoid, taybee and taybee nz *at S 41 17.238 E 174 43.345*After attending an event this evening in Midland Park, Wellington CBD, my flatmate the Seagnoid says he wants to find a particular cache because it fulfills one of the multitude of reasons why he wants to find particular caches, as if we geocachers need an excuse right? As I'm also wanting to go out of my way to find caches this month for a completely different, but no less important to me, reason so off we go. That put us about 3km away from this new cache when we received the publication notice. 3km as the crow flies, but not as the cacher has to drive in Wellington! Stopping only to pick up another friend of ours we arrived near GZ some 15-20 minutes after publication. All our devices showed slightly different locations for GZ, but under tree cover that's hardly surprising, and with the cache being a D1.5 we didn't think much about it... until after about half an hour we still hadn't found it. By now I had grabbed a couple of sticks out of my car to help with clearing the blackberry from one of the tree we were most interested in.We were then joined by the taybees, who also searched where we had but more comprehensively. At this point I messaged the CO to let them know that 5 seasoned cachers were having some issues. Over the course of the next half hour or so, a few messages went back and forth, the upshot being that we then widened our search to a particular area where Itchyfeet finally made the find! Phew, what a relief!Happy to sign the log, some 70-75 minutes after arriving here, and then we could go home. A couple of us took GPS readings, and I have posted mine at the start of this log. It may help others to make the find. Thanks for setting up this cache, and for answering my messages.
**taybee** is caching again with **taybee nz** for the dayfind **TwigNZ** , **Itchyfeet2020** and **the Seagnoid ** GZ joint {FTF}after 40mins we had the cache in hand and signed Cach was about 14 meters up the track see coordinates on TwigNZ log All in good order, sign log book as **taybee** **taybee's** *joint sign* ) TFTC Cache was found at **12/01/2024 @ 22:21:10**
[FTF] at 10.21pm! That was an adventure and a half. TwigNZ, the Seagnoid and I arrived in daylight shortly after release. A pretty intensive impromptu CITO then methodically occurred for 30 mins with a lot of wandering willie moved, before the taybees arrived and carried out the same search. After a hour and two or three messages to CO we were so close to giving up. I had a favourite spot 2m off my GZ. I checked five times - somehow thinking i would get a different result! Using the extra intel we went even wider and intensely before it was with some joy I finally got to say those magic words and relieve everyone crouched around me in various bushes in the dark! Whew.
