This was my target for today. It will up one of the lower boxes on my D/T grid. Maiden voyage for the new boat. It was perfect for this. Cool Wandered round the island and did all the caches out here. A favourite point for bringing me here.

Just as a reminder to myself, I have checked all the logs so far and they are all OK, with a photo attached to the log or sent to me via the message center. All good! Smile Also, it is so nice to browse through the logs because I see so many smiley faces. You guys make me smile too! Smile Welcome to the Herring Island! Smile

We made our own way to Herring Island and had the place to ourselves. We always enjoy the Yarra River and strolling and checking out these sculptures. Next time we will have to go paddling further along the Yarra and collect more geocaches. Thanks for the Virtual Cache Mickie Walker.HunterPS. Photo sent to CO & permission to log received.

My second visit to the island, but the virtual wasn't here on my first time. Glad someone reminded me, as I was a bit busy with my event on the island today. Wow, what a crowd.

09-Sep-24
One of the many hordes that stumbled over to the island today. I teamed up with Posums as we ventured around. Cool place. Easy find here with others. Thanks for the fun and adventure.

09-Sep-24
On Herring Island for an event which meant we walked on the Yarra to get here. bunadoorian, Smrff78 and myself made our way to here. As we approached we were greeted by quite a few other geocachers. I bet the NGV hadn't counted on the geocachers to boost the numbers of people walking over to Herring Island. Hope this helps spread the cost of the floating walkway over the people who participated over the weekend. Thank you for this virtual MickieWalker.

08-Sep-24
This was my first visit to Herring Island, and having bumped into Phetlern on the way, we continued on to this virtual cache. An interesting sculpture like the others on the island. I was really glad to have visited here and seen this hidden gem. Thanks to MickieWalker for placing this cache.

A short-term pontoon bridge meant that I didn't need to paddle out to Herring Island today. This time last year, I borrowed a kayak to do the paddle. I actually took a selfie at this artwork, but I was a few months too early to claim the virtual.Looking forward to the event that kicks off soon.TFTVC

Our second visit to Herring Island, the first by boat, the second today by a temporary pontoon bridge put up by NGV for a special event. How different the visit to the island was today! Every time you turned a corner, you bumped into another geocacher!Funny thing today, was the person on the mainland side of the bridge telling everyone to cross the bridge and turn right, only for most people to cross the bridge and turn left to find a cache! Thanks for placing the virtual here MickieWalker. We do love Herring Island. Next time, we will come by kayak and experience having the island to ourselves ??

Found by The Empire + HThe city hummed in the distance, but here, the peaceful flow of the Yarra River set a calm tone for the day. A temporary floating bridge stretched across the water, offering rare access to the island, and we made our way over, the bridge gently shifting beneath our feet as we crossed.Herring Island greeted us with a mix of open greenery and dense native vegetation. The island felt both remote and intimate, a hidden sanctuary just 4 kilometers from the city center. Picnic tables were scattered under large trees, and some groups had already laid out their blankets, basking in the tranquil atmosphere. The trail meandered through the landscape, and at each turn, a new sculpture came into view. The artworks were mesmerising, seamlessly integrated into the environment, as though they had grown out of the earth itself. Some were large and imposing, while others blended so naturally into the surroundings that you had to pause and look twice. As we left the island via the floating bridge, we felt a sense of connection, not just to the art and nature, but to the history and spirit of Birrarung, the land, and those who had walked these paths before. Thanks for the cool virtual cache MickieWalker.-MVirtual #259

I, like many others, took the opportunity to walk out to Herring Island today on a fairly shaky temporary bridge which took a lot of courage to cross. Thanks for bringing me and my caching pals for the afternoon, cazzajane07 and jaamc_3335 to this wonderful structure.

Spring Victorian Incursion 2024.Day Ten: The inner south east.Weather: a rainy end to the day.One of five caches (includes an event) found on Herring Island today thanks to the NGV fronting up the cost of a temporary floating bridge to the island. Talk about perfect timing for my this extended visit to Melbourne. Muggles to the rescue here. They said that they were going to be a while at this spot, and offered to take my photo so that I could move on. They were probably kept busy as more geocachers were arriving as I was leaving.Thank you for this Virtual cache MickieWalker.

08-Sep-24
With the lure of an event on Herring Island that didn't require us to cart a kayak into the city, Chook joined forces with Sunset62 and micaparamedic, catching the train in and enjoying a leisurely walk there via a handful of caches.Once on the Island, we met up with many other likeminded geocachers on the same mission. Thank you for placing your Virtual Cache here MickeyWalker.

08-Sep-24
Today I planned to walkover to Herring Island for an event (not an easy task walking on water you might say) and I mentioned it to my caching buddy GemmaSistema. So a planned was hatched to catch up and do some caching before hand.I picked her up at a station and soon the day of fun and laughs started.Caches were mainly picked by if there was parking close by and also how much walking was involved. After touring the finer suburbs of Melbourne we have made it where we wanted to be and that is on an island.I mentioned that I was walking to Herring Island to my son during the week and he laughed at me.Photo was sent and the apology came.I have walked a couple of these wobbly bridges before. This one was soon located on our walk around the island checking out all of the sculpture art.The muggles probably were wondering what was going on with the large group that decended on to the island.Photo taken now on to the next one. Thanks MickieWalker TFTC.

10:32It was our second visit to this intriguing island, the history and art work of which never ceases to amaze us. Today we found a couple of caches, including this one, which completed our list of Island caches. Perhaps there will be more to come - creating another visit possibility!!Thank you to the CO who placed this cache.37410

How convenient it was for the NGV to organise a temporary bridge on to the island to make getting there a whole lot easier... and how convenient it was that **ConnieandRick** took advantage of the NGV's offering and organised an Event on the island... when put together I, like many other cachers, grabbed the opportunity to wander across the water and visit the island... first visit in my case... and hunt out the caches that are there. Could not resist the opportunity for this Virtual... photo taken courtesy of a fellow geocacher. Thanks **MickieWalker** for putting this Virtual here.

It was so nice to be able to walk across to this little island for a chinwag with other caches. It was a shame that it started to rain, but I managed to get the photo taken without ending up too wet.

Found after crossing the bridge. Had a great time walking the island for the first time!

We escaped from the country of NE of Victoria to check out Herring Island in Melbourne City. It was very pleasing to find a handful of different cache types on our walk on a sunny afternoon. SL at 3.28pm The obligatory photo was taken whilst admiring one of the many artworks. #11,171 TFTVIRTUAL MickieWalker

Im sure I had an older photo of that cairn from one of my previous visits to the island. TwistedOh well, I guess we will just have to "earn" this Virtual cache smiley instead. WinkRazz... and earn it we did when catnap777 and I attended ADI's T/5 "A Herring Winter" event on this day filing down to the cairn afterwards with most of the crowd to take selfies for the virtual that wasn't published on our last visit. CoolAs an encore, cat' and I putted our tiny tinnie all the way down to Bolte Bridge and back again to score another handfull of caches that we didnt get the last time we took this exact journey by kayak back in January. RazzTFTC MickieWalker, and thanks for the added incentive to take on The Yarra once more. I dreamt about the Herring Island geocaches for a long time before leaving the UK. A little planning was required in order to reach the island. When the appointed day arrived, we made our way to the island in the delightful company of our new friends. The sculpture park was awesome. Herring Island is a truly special place where amazing geocaching memories are made. Will be back to award a favourite point. TFTC

Loads of fun paddling out here for Hamfish's event. The change from Scout Adventure Island to Sculpture Park is amazing. It is a wonderful place. Even better today as the punt has stopped for winter leaving us paddlers to have free reign. Love the cone, thanks Andy and MickieWalker

Today was paddle day! Who said you cant kayak in the middle of winter. I teamed up with OzHockeyChick to tackle a couple of suburban kayak caches before the main event on Herring Island this afternoon. We arrived to see a number of cachers unloading their cars and carrying their kayaks down to the landing. A bit of a drop off made for a tricky entry but we all managed to make it without getting wet.Once on the island, we gathered at the event HQ before setting off to explore the caches on offer, of which this is one!The happy snap was taken and so the cache is now added to my swag of finds.A big thanks goes to MickieWalker for taking the time to add Herring Island, Melbourne to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Are you ready for Victorias next big event?Join us for Victorias first ever *Block Party* to celebrate 25 years of geocaching.**When:** March 22 - 23, 2025**Where:** Hume Global Learning Centre, SunburyLog your will attend at [**GCAP417: The Sunbury Event** ](https://coord.info/GCAP417) Visit our [**Block Party website** ](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/the-sunbury-event) for more details on the exciting lineup of events and activities as they are released!

I visited this island earlier in the year prior to this virtual being out..today I returned with my own vessel...(the punt was much cleaner) but I wasn't on my own their was a large flotilla of geocachers whom had turned up for The Hamish's Pop up paddle event.. can't say I passed this cairn on my last trip to the island, I would have to say its one if not the most perfect cairn I've ever seen.

02-Jun-24
Came over to the island for the event. While I was on the Island I had a look around. Thanks MicieWalkerGJMMelb

16:34Greetings from Herring Island, MickieWalker. With the hamfish holding another event on the island, this was the perfect opportunity to take a selfie on my way back from replacing a missing challenge cache. (Half of the flotilla mobbed me just after I dragged my kayak up onto the sandbank where the landing sits when the punt is running. Lucky for them that their patience lasted until then. Just.)And after a bit of socialising, it was an ungainly launch into the water before a lap of the island to get back to where I'd started. Just before dark. Thanks for a fine excuse for shenanigans.#8895

02-Jun-24
I was on the island for a T5 event today, and noticed this new cache since my last visit. With the punt not operating it was all geocaching paddlers here today, no muggles whatsoever. Some collected answers for the island multi here too. TFTC MickeyWalker

G'day mate, olen varma, ett olen liian vanha pulahtaakseni kylmn Yarraan. Mutta tein sen, kuiva skki piti kankaani ja tekniikkani turvassa ja tarjosi mys kellumista, jos niskkn sukellusrefleksi potkaisi sisn. Thanks MickieWalker for placing this Virtual Cache, enhancing the game board and adding to our enjoyment.
