Accio 15:09:57On tour of North Island, T4mmmy and I are today very south. This cache was found after a bit of a scramble through the long grass?bush? whatever that stuff is we were walking on - and some gorgeous cactii to see as we scrambled across to GZ. Great hint, found easily.Yes logbook is somewhat moist. So brought fresh paper to add to the container. Maintenance achieved, carry on.Thanks Hillhunter adopted by skindo for entertaining me at this location. *{Overall find #11813}*
Rather windy here today, but lovely & clear.
Log absolutely saturated, needs to be replaced. Unable to write our name but scratched away anyway

Soggy log book so couldn't write legibly.
Needs drying or replacing. Kids had fun on the rocks.

Missed during our last visit to New Zealand. This time we made to the most southern point of North Island
A bit of a treck.
Photo taken as the log book was sodden with water.

Found during our visit to the Cape Palliser. Thanks for the cache.
Unfortunatelly, the logbook was wet and I could not sign it.

We went to visit the Lighthouse and the seal colony.
Picked this one up on the way. The ground to get to the cache is a bit uneven, so watch out.
But the cache itself was hidden is a great spot, away from muggles.
Unfortunately. their was water inside the cache and the log book was soaked. My pen didn't work on the wet paper, so I couldn't log it properly.

Followed the instructions and basically went straight to it. Now to climb the bigger portion of the face,
Travelling down to Wellington via Cape Palliser for the second week of school holidays. Stayed at the Pinnacles campground last night. After walking up to the light house (twice because we forgot to answer the virtual questions first time) it was off to this cache. Didn’t take long to track down and sign the log. Log was damp but still signable. Thanks for the smiley and showing us this area.
Wandering in Wairarapa between Easter and Anzac day. Started at Cape Palliser and ended up in Martinborough. Found several hides along my way. This hide was one of them.

After watching the sealions play across the road we soon had the cache in hand. It's a pity the weather was a little drizzly but still able to appreciate the beauty of this part of NZ. TFTC
We had a surprise retreat from the last cache so we were very careful this time around.
However, luckily the cache area was clear of seals and we were able to make a good find, thanks to the good directions.
Cache is a bit damp but some kind person has added some waterproof paper. Fav from us. TFTC

Visiting this end of the North island as i had not been here before . this took some time and few scratches and it was lke looking for a needle in a haystack that is for sure ! . down below the light house ! thanks you for this cache
Quick and easy find well hidden from the large number of muggles around this area. The logbook was soaked but still managed to write on it, a new one might be needed soon though. TFTC!
What a picturesque area, and saw so many seals today basking in the sun and playing in rock pools. I enjoyed going after this cache - very scratched legs as commented on by the previous logger, but hey, all in a good cause! TFTC
Naturally I wore my sandals today. But not an issue, no scratches and cache was soon in hand. Great photo points for the lighthouse on the way there.

Didn’t take too long to find this one. Logbook damp but writable. Thanks for maintaining this old one. I needed it for my Jasmer.
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.

Staying Martinborough for the weekend, thought we’d go for a drive to the south coast. Did the virtual cache at the light house, thought we should probably get the two traditional.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Over here for some r&r which always includes geocaching.
Grabbed this one on our visit to Lake Ferry and Cape Palliser today. Clambered through the local scrub to GZ where the cache was soon spotted. Very damp but could complete log.

A really cool place this, stunning scenery, one of my favourite places in NZ. The shrubbery was rather wet and I got soaked getting to GZ, but it was worth it. TFTC, sorry for the late log.
This one took quite a hunt to find. Eventually past logs helped; it wasn't quite where I thought. TFTC.
After reading a few previous logs we learnt the best approach to this cache. We jumped the fence and followed a geotrail to gz where the big cache was soon spotted. Interesting angle of the lighthouse from gz!
The access to this seems a bit dodgy and it seems the only way to get to it is to breach a fence. As nobody was around I did that and worked my way over to GZ where the cache was quickly found. A decent sized cache which is always good. TFTC.
Cache # 4,981 - A nice ramble through the brush with Astro Hunter and Violet Butterfly, led on by a pair of quail, resulted in a super quick find of this cache. All well within, and nice to find such an old cache still active. TNLNSL. TFTC!
A bit more of an effort to get to this one than some of the others today, but at least this was successful right away. All good here! Thank you.

This one got the better of me. We stayed the night at Ngawi. Back along that road again and clambered up. So much calmer today and a few fishing boats making the most of it. Thanks for the cache.
A nice bit of early morning exercise as we climbed up trying not to damage any plants...thats hard at GZ it was pleasing to find a good sized container I guess it is typical of old caches...awesome to see this one stand the test of time and still be alive 18 years on Many thanks Skindo for keeping this one up and running well done
*Logbook damp. A great sized cache and nicely tucked away from both prying eyes and the howling winds. Found after heading up the the lighthouse and was the last cache for me before heading back to dreary Wellington. TFTC.
This cache is quite obviously on private land. The CO does not state they have permission so I assume not. Nonetheless, we broached the fence and found the cache, a rather circuitous route to avoid daming the coastal plants. Found by the nephew again - I don't think I have found a single cache today! The lad has beaten me to every one!
The plan was to go tramping but the weather report was particularly disappointing. So my sister, my nephew and my self went camping at the Pinnacles instead. Fantastic weekend, great weather, although quite blowy on Sunday. And on our return to Wellington the weather was... particularly disappointing. It was hosing down! I am glad we went for option 2, but I am still in need of tree time.

Wow! 4x logs in 1 day. I guess lockdown is over. It certainly was busier out here today than I expected it to be. Luckily the GZ is far enough from the road that making the find and signing the log can be easily done. Nice to find a decent sized container too. TFTC
A fairly straightforward find with livingk after walking up to the lighthouse. Spent the weekend camping near Stonewall creek. TFTC
Found after getting scratched legs with the grandkids. Love this spot. There were the most seals I've seen here, awesome! TFTC

Dfdc IN COIN

Not too hard to get there, just a bit itchy with short trousers. Fast spotted. TFTC
There was some confusion about exactly which hint objects we should focus on - the cliff was probably interfering with navigation. Infoferret made the correct choice and came up trumps. TFTC skindo!
I focussed on the hint and didn't stress so much about what the GPS was saying, GSEL asid he was 3m from it, BFG was 10, so I went in the other direction and (for once) found it easily. All in good condition here, TFTC.
#7414. Over to the Wairarapa today on a road trip to pick up a few caches down in the Cape Palliser area. I decided to reduce the carbon footprint of the trip by enlisting the help of fellow cachers Infoferret, Barefootguru and Denomynator so we had a full car load. It made for a fun day out and having four sets of eyes certainly makes locating caches a lot easier than the bumbling efforts I normally make. We stopped to grab a few caches needed by different people as we made our way south. I have done most of the caches down to Ngawi.
After our team found the southernmost cache in the North Island it was time to look for one of the oldest remaining caches in the North Island. I have been very keen to find this one for a long time. We set off through the grass and shrubs across a gently sloping area. I was relieved to see it wasn't half way up the steep slope to the lighthouse as my arm is currently not strong enough to climb that steep face. Instead the container was in a friendly to access spot. My GPS had me looking at a location that turned out to be 9m away from the actual cache hiding location. But fortunately we had four sets of eyes searching today around flax and rocks for the container and this time Infoferret came up trumps. As it turned out I didn't actually find a single cache all day. I think that is the first time since I started geocaching that I have failed to locate a cache on a geocaching adventure. No worries. The team signed me into the logbooks and I provided logistic support for the expedition. Thanks skindo for the cache. Its great to have such an old cache still available for everyone to find.

Read the instructions a few times to confirm the best approach — was an easier climb than anticipated. Infoferret made the find as our satnavs had directed us to a different rock. (Only just managed to scrawl our names in the damp log.) Thanks skindo!
This nice cache was searched and found together with my dad "Tango-Addi"!

Today we went to Cape Palliser for enjoying this amazing spot!
We watched the seals next by and after that explored the lighthouse and climbed all steps to the top.
What a wonderful view all over this area!
Many thanks for showing us this amazing place!

Another road trip to the Wairarapa, this time to pick up caches for the Mystery at the Museum. I headed out to Cape Palliser as I haven't been out this way for a few years - before I started geocaching so there's plenty for me to get.
After getting South of North, I parked up at the specified spot and walked up to the cliff edge. No issues with the plants and I soon spotted the cache. Signed the log and dropped off a trackable. TFTC

Today is day 16 of our drive to the south island. After we spent the night at the freecamp in Ngawi we started to drive to the lighthouse and stopped at two bays to watch the seals and to find the other caches that are down this way. After we had parked the car at the carpark we walked along the shore to watch a few more seals as they were resting on the rocks and to find the southernmost cache of the north island. Afterwards we made our way up the many stairs to enjoy the stunning view along the coast on this clear day. On the way back to the car we detoured along the road to pick up this oldie. All good here and a quick find. Tftc.
Didn't look at the terrain rating before we went traipsing into the rocks. Made it even though I'm not so nimble! TFTC
Down to Palliser to enjoy the spring sun while it lasts and pick up some caches. At last we reached our destination, cache count far exceeding the numbers on the clock- signalling lunch time and climing to the lighthouse. Crowds were out as was the sun, and after a slog to the top and back we took a moment to find the cache. TFTC
Banian's Good Friday trip to Cape Palliser to get the most southern North Island cache, and a few others.
I have been here twice before, about 30 years ago and 40 years ago, well before geo-caching. I don't remember climbing up to the light house, this was not the desternation just a way-point.

After climbing the steps to the light house for the views, popped around here to make the find. Unfortunately no maintenance bits on me so wasn't able to do any repairs. The log was reasonably damp, but still managed to make my mark. Tipped out the water and tried to make the bag as protective of the log as possible.
Suggestion for anybody looking to make the find in the future to take with you replacement ziplock bags (x2) and new log o this excellent cache can continue to survive.
Many thanks for the hide and cache.

Went for a wander tonight to collect a few caches after doing some work up here this week. Plenty of dead rabbits around and a reasonably fresh specimen close to the cache - hope it's a lot further gone for the next cacher! Cache wasn't in a place exactly matching the clue but close by? Put back where found. Thanks for the hide.
Found with my daughter Carø and Granddaughter SS3J they were Jess & Caro at the time. We had a few nights in the area and had a great time. TFTC.
Found this with Mum as 'Jess & Caro'. She is now Carø and I now have my own geocaching profile so we are sorting my logs for caches we found together. TFTC!
We had a great time around here, spent the day walking the Pinnacles, up to the lighthouse and then admiring the cutest seal pups playing in the water! Thanks for this cache, Hillhunter and skindo!
I did exactly as the warning said not to, and attempted this cache is jandals ouch! Either way, another find! The lighthouse is beautiful! And so many seals!! Tftc
Made my way to the cache via a wee track amonst the folliage and got the GZ okay. Was expecting trouble as I opened the container by relieved by the new logsheet in there. The container was soaking so got that and pulled the old (destroyed) logsheet out and replaced the cache as found. TFTC
After climbing up the lighthouse in the drizzle and wind and grabbing the other cache nearby I decided I could not get any wetter so off I went. It took me a good while to find after not finding it where my GPS said it should be. I stuffed my wet phone back in my pocket and began to search a wider area and finally found it. TFTC
Found it during a holiday on the beautiful New Zealand.

Hanging out at the cape for the weekend with a few friends of friends. There is a planned bonfire at a campsite a bit further down the coast but as we are early we make the most of it... explore the lighthouse and grab a cache. Great to see an oldie in play but sorry it's a bit wet! TFTC
Sveppi and I have recently moved to Wellington from Rotorua. After a few months getting settled into new jobs, new house and new routine, it's time we start exploring our new environment. An invide from friends of friends to go camping in the DOC land east of Cape Palliser this weekend was finally my excuse to see what the land South of Featherston looked like. I also got quite excited when I clicked on the Cape Palliser cache to create my poquet query and I saw it dated back to 2002! We try to target old caches as we feel they tend to be in better location, and like the historical aspect of them too. I really enjoyed the drive through farmland then along the coast, then we parked at the lighthouse early afternoon for a quick explore of the area before carrying on to the campsite about 5km beyond the gates. The climb was cool, the views were too, and the weather was fantastic (ie sunny and not too windy!). After a fer photos we came back down and looked for the cache. My heart sank when I saw the container, as I know from experience that round sistemas are not waterproof (have done that mistake on one of my caches before!). So unfortunately the cache is full of water and the 2 logbooks are soaked. Unable to sign, and for this reason cache falls short of the FP I was hoping I would give it. Took the TB which was a bonus. I see a NM log has been filed recently, I hope the CO has time to tend to this oldie to keep it alive and pleasant for future visitors.
Enjoying a short break at Ngawi, this was the 2nd stop below the lighthouse on day 2 after climbing the stairs to the top.
Off the beaten track somewhat and well hidden away, it was good to bag this one given how well it has stood the test of time having been placed here nearly 16 years ago. TFTC.

After we climbed the lighthouse (where Pratchettfan pointed out: just 40m in this direction) , we took the longer route to the cache, which was quickly found.
After climbing all those stairs and enjoying the view we also wanted to log this Cache.
Unfortunately, I didn't find the most direct route going in, so it took me a bit longer to reach GZ. Once there I spotted the box in the second spot I checked.
Unfortunately, the logbook was drenched, and I just barely managed to inscribe our names.

Well it's the WENZ Mega Weekend and a plan was hatched to motorhome (as we thought it would make a difference from sleeping in a car which is our normal accommodation method) down here in the company of HKCB, 11HPG11 & Alpenmilch80 and head for a few caches along the way.
As time was of the essence and we had planned to spend bugger all time at the actual mega but rather head for specific caches that we would otherwise not collect.
The record keeping for this trip was a total of 1750kms, (fuel = $450) and less than 100 caches, plenty of Beer & Wine and I still call it a complete success as we got what we came for.
Following about an hour at the WENZ Mega we headed for Cape Palliser (as this was a targeted area) before heading north again. What an amazing drive down here and a variety of sceanery along the coast. This was truly a highlight for us and many photos were taken.
The added bonus was that it allowed us to complete the currently defunct 4 corners challenge NEWS further most points
thanks for the placement

MEGA TRIP 2018.
As usual with the annual MEGA event, we partook in our annual MEGA Trip. However this year was a little different from others, with much more sleep and a little less time caching than usual, but just as much fun being had along the way.
The general goal for the trip was to focus on all the new Virtual caches published over the last year, visiting Cape Palliser (for the Southern most cache in the NI), and Castle Point, along with spending time at the MEGA Event. With this in mind hiring a campervan from Hamilton and seemed like the best way to tackle this goal, plus sleeping in a car with four people, would just be too cramped!
The trip was a great success, and our goals were achieved. A big thanks to all CO's for there hides.
LEG 3: Mega, Cape Palliser and Castle Point: Todays plan was to spend some time this morning at the Mega Event before heading off to Cape Palliser and then working our way North to Castle Point. Two places that have been on the to visit list for a while now.
What a cool place, found after checking out the lighthouse.

During lunch time on Friday I flew into Wellington from Auckland to meet up with some crazy Hamilton’s (11HPG11, Cats&Dragons & HKCB) to spend some time at the 2018 WENZ Mega and then driving the huge campervan back to the Tron.
After the night spend with a hearty meal and good drinks we refreshed ourselves before moving in the direction of the mega. Afterwards we left the Hut to drive out to Cape Palliser. After climbing those stairs we made our way to GZ to claim this find. TFTC

It's Mega time! This year we decided to hire a motorhome and travel down in relative luxury, very different to the last few years. Our team this year consisted of Cats&Dragons, HKCB and later on Alpenmilch80, and myself, logs were signed as MEGAHOAC. We went on a bit of a whirlwind trip round the lower half of the north island, chasing virtuals, earthcaches and anything a little bit different.
After climbing up to the lighthouse and taking some photos we headed round the longer, safer route to find the cache. Impressive views from up top, well worth heading up there. Cache was soon found, signed and returned. Thanks for bringing us here
