From Derby, Broome, Port Hedland direction Karratha .Good we had a 4WD .Incredible things happenedhere, but we shot the photo .TFTC# 17'195
Interesting location, glad we could still access with all the roadworks going on. Sorry for late posting, have been trying to learn how to make photo small enough to meet requirements, Ive given up as just not technically up to it. Sending photo as is.
A caching trip from Canberra, ACT to Cape York, Qld and then around the gulf to East Arnhem Land, NT then over the top of WA to Perth.Interesting detours to Thursday Island, Mabuiag Island, Mornington Island, Doomadgee, Hells Gate, Nhulunbuy, Wadeye, Litchfield Nat Park, Wyndham and the Gibb River Road.TFTC.A sad history. Thanks for sharing.
A short walk up the hill, using the time to call the family back at home. An interesting location here I'm pleased I had the opportunity to learn about.
I visited this virtual cache on a trip to Western Australia from Adelaide with FeatherWaite. We camped at Point Samson last night, then made our way to Karratha, finding a few caches of interest along the way.It began raining early this morning and we are enjoying a cool day today. The track in to this one was a little wet, but no problem. The plaque tells a sad story, and one that should be of great shame to the prominent local families involved. The standing rocks provide a poignant reminder. Thanks longfella for the virtual cache.
Found with e.gregory1 on a trip from Adelaide to north-western Western Australia. We spent four nights in the north-west, staying at De Grey River near Port Hedland, Point Samson, Dampier and SW of Karratha to target a selection of caches while in the general area. Very dismayed and sorry about the shameful treatment of indigenous Australians remembered by this sad plaque. Thanks for the Virtual cache longfella!
A bit of a rough road in but took it slow with the Subaru and it was ok.A bit of history and a place I wouldn't have known about if it wasn't for this cache. Thanks for bringing me here.TFTC
Sobering cache....well worth the placing----------Decided to do a long road trip, flying in from Canberra, starting and finishing the drive in Port Hedland. It was a long day of flights, followed by 7 days of lots of kilometres. I stopped at every 'point of interest' along the way, I wanted to miss nothing! Earthcaches, Virtuals & AL's are always very good waypoints for interesting things as well.Every night I downloaded a bunch of podcasts and these made the kilometres fall away. This was the first outback road trip I have done where I saw more emu's than kangaroos. The wild camels walking in the desert were also very cool to see. My trusty swag served me very well.
What a sad story! Thanks for bringing us here as we would never have known without this cache.
Tftc as my husband and children are of aboriginal heritage it is so terrible that this happened
Sad history here we would not have learned about if it wasn't for this virtual. Tftc
A quick trip to the area so with a bit of time headed over to get a select number of caches. This being an older virtual was of course on the list.
A said event in history.
Fortunately, we had a 4x4 so bumoed our way in,

Our last find of the day before we head back to our caravan for dinner. The track in was a little rough and a little more of an adventure in the low light of the setting sun.

A sad place and a place of paradoxes.
A memorial
A nearby Aboriginal Site with rock art
And across the water a huge base for the NW Shelf Gas project.
Brad and Janet are on another epic journey.
This time it involves many of Len Beadell’s 6500km of roads including the Anne Beadell, the Connie Sur, the Heather, the Neale, the Gun Barrel Highway, the Gary, the Talawana Track, the Gary Junction Rd and more.
And of course a 2 day visit to Maralinga which Len also located, surveyed and largely built as he had with Woomera and Emu. An amazing man.
If you don’t know of him he wrote some wonderful books. Laconic with a dry sense of wit, they are an excellent read. They are also available as audiobooks as is a recording of his brilliant after dinner talk one evening in Shepparton. Worth a listen.
And now the Moon Tours trip is over we are heading back to Adelaide via whichever way takes our fancy after a few days rest and repair in Karratha.

A sad yet interesting part of our history. We had previously found another of these markers during a trek around this area. TFTC.
What a travesty, and unless you come to places like this, you don't know what white Australians did to the Aboriginal people. Thank you very much for bringing me here to read the history.
Thank you for the information regarding the area which I had visited before.
Day 13 of our 3 week break in the north, we spent the day exploring the sights of Dampier this Virtual Cache was on our to-do list

Sad to see massacres as part of the history here but amazingly beautiful spot TFTC
Took the track into this site this morning after viewing the rock art up the road. Wow! What a horrible history we have. Definitely swift and brutal but I don’t share the same opinion on the justice theory. Thanks for this location and history lesson.
Very sad story to read especially in such a nice spot. Thanks for bringing me here TFTC
I would like to begin by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I stand today, and pay my respects to their Elders past and present.
This is a poignant dedication to an abhorrent moment in this nation's history. Very sad.

We decided to brave the rather rocky road and ended up right at the marker and the turning circle. A very sad and alarming reminder of our dark history and in light of current sentiment, it is particularly poignant. Thank you for bringing us to this spot. The rocks above were eerie. Tftc.
I bend my knees to all who was murdered during the Fling Foam Massacre.

Outnabout exploring after a swim nearby. Interesting story. Thanks for bringing us here.
In K-Town for a day or so for work and just had to make an opportunity to grab the 2 remaining virtuals here.
Headed up the rocky track in my rental 2wd Outlander to GZ. This is one of those really interesting spots with an amazing history that I would never have been to if it wasn’t for geocaching.

We loved the memorial placed by the local indigenous people. Took photo at the other memorial. Thanks longfella
Spending a few days exploring the area as we pass through on our AdVANtures, we wouldn't have even have known this curious place existed if not for caching.... Which is exactly the point of caching if you ask me. So thanks for bringing me here and for the interesting slice of history longfella.
Have been up this way for work, sadly only a brief visit as I love it up here.

I am currently visiting Wickham/Roebourne on a geocaching trip
Today I am having a RDO and set off early in the morning to Dampier
I logged a couple of caches on the way into town and then
I continued on a drive around the town finding a few caches
Sad history here, a story that has been repeated in many different places
I met some archaeologists who were visiting from the US and other places who were here in Aus diving on submerged indigenous sites
Not something I had heard of before
Thanks for placing this VC
This my second Virtual today
I have not got many of this type of cache so it's a great thrill to be able to add more to my tally
It was interesting to see on the hill behind the monuments the Standing stones which are a geological feature of the area
Fav point awarded

After a mixed day in and around Dampier yesterday we headed out onto the Burrup Peninsula hoping for a more successful day and the chance to see some great scenery. We did well on both counts, with this being the final cache for the day. A blowout in a thong prevented us from do the walking required to get to the few remaining caches!
Great to see the tribute from the local people.

Due to the lack of a 4WD I walked over from the road, which was some undertaking in the heat! Great spot though, and very obviously popular with 4wd-ers. TFTC!!!
The location was hard to reach but we managed it. Read the text on the plaque and took photo as requested.

The Big Western Australia trip in 2018. Day 22. Today was a day around Karratha on some of the 4wd tracks inland of town before Heading to Dampier and the peninsula for more 4wd tracks and a final hill climb on foot.
The track to this spot was quite simple compared to the last two. I grabbed my image and moved on.

pug002 found it on our recent trip geocaching in the Pilbara. A dismal day for us but got this one. TFC longfella
We only have a 2WD hiace camper but we managed to drive to this one which added a little bit of excitement to the hunt. Certainly is an obsure memorial, wonder how many locals know that it is here. Took the photo then headed back along the rocky road

With so many caches around the area we decided to spend two nights here and have today to explore Karratha and Dampier without the camper trailer on the back and a very pleasant day was had indeed.
We are firm believers in an eye for an eye and that the punishment should suit the crime but to think that this could happen all over a bit of suspected stealing of a bit of flour is incomprehensible and then the fact that these men that murdered innocent men, women and children were treated like hero's is even sadder. It just show the intolerance and ignorance of the early settlers of this area.
We had not heard of The Flying Foam massacre before and these events should be taught in our schools to show what the traditional owners suffered when we came and took their lands.
Many thanks longfella for keeping this virtual alive, as we have said there aren't that many left in Australia and this one definitely deserves a favourite point.

Another virtual by longfella visited with Coruze today. Pretty tragic the history of the site. Interesting fact that the vertical rocks on the mound nearby represent the massacred people. There are unique historical facts and places that caching bring us to and this cache fits that perfectly. Thanx for the virtual.

This was our second target for our very quick outing in Karatha. We were aiming for the first road shown on the navman but it didn't exist so we pulled into the second one. The car we were in wouldn't get up that Hill so we walked in.
On the way i could see Snake prints in the red sand so my eyes were going everywhere scanning for those things I fear the greatest.
We finally arrived at GZ and did our caching duties. What a sad history and the memorial rock mound with the verticals was simply amazing yet very sad. I'm glad I came to this one and learnt all that history, kudos longfella

This memorial commemorates a sad part of the history of this area and we should never forget such things. Thank you to longfella for creating this cache to draw attention to an event which happened between two different cultures.
Day five of Barnzy12 and Cravo10 adventure to the Northwest of WA, filling out boots with LGAs, rare DT, old caches, and good old fashioned red dirt!
Today we had an easier day planned with not so much driving! Staying around the township of Karratha, we had a nice sleep in and then warmed the car up on the way to Dampier to pickup a couple of caches on the way to meeting local cacher grandadbazza at the same location as dimor recent event.
We had a crack at the archived cache nearby but couldn't get it from its hides hole so left it alone even with a previous finders assistance, after a good chat with Barry we parted ways to collect some very rare virtual caches around the burrup peninsula and some semi off road caches including an earth cache.
We were about two thirds of the way through out Dampier caching run when notifications came through for a new multi not too far away, so we completed the 4x4 duties and then backtracked all the way to the red dog statue and claimed a very swift FTF some 1200km from home. Special thanks to dimor for a well put together multi that was simple enough for us simple minded cachers.
We then continued along the plan collecting as many caches around Dampier as possible, with some not attempted due to the extreme heat and the amount of caches hidden ontop extremely hot rock piles which have burnt my hands enough this trip.
We finished up on the Dampier area after seeing my favourite little island around sams island, such a wonderful spot just a hop skip and jump from he shores of Dampier.
After lunch we collected a few more smileys around Karratha before heading to Roebourne, Wickham and point Samson to collect all the smileys in those towns to make tomorow Journey a little easier, as we now only have to detour to Cossack on the small ish drive to port hedland.
A huge day out collecting 3 virtuals, heaps of traditionals, several multis, a puzzle and an earth cache. Full on day for caching finishing up around 8pm with some take away atop a small lookout hill.
Looking forward to heading to Port Hedland tomorrow via Cossack, Whim Creek and a few other sights!
Interesting read this cache. Haven't heard much about this without geocaching. Thanks for. Ringing us here

Out and about exploring Dampier area with CAD ... A Sad piece of history ... Thanks for bringing us here
I was running low on caches to find around Karratha after almost a week
So it was time to head out Burrup way again and see if I could find a trio of caches out this way.
The track in was obvious
And after some bouncing the geomobile over the rocky trail,
GZ was reached.
A spot to stand in silence for a moment or two and wonder why the early settlers were at war with the indigenous tribes over such trivial things ??
Another time and place I think !!
Places like this hopefully keep the bad olde days in our minds and push us forward into getting along together with mutual respect
TFTC and visit to this spot that you will not find on your average tourista's itinerary

The big move road trip from Townsville to Mandurah. A couple days rest in Karratha and Dampier so we set out to find the virtuals. Love these caches. Never understood why they got grandfathered. Thanks for placing a virtual here.
This was a powerful spot and worth the visit. Getting the photo right wasn't so easy with the bright light of day out there. But glad it was a photo site.
Sad history about this area of the peninsula. Found the track in after missing it the first time. We bumped along the track and soon arrived at GZ. Being late afternoon, we saw lots of kangaroos bounding around. Pity this area is not sign posted as most people would have no idea that this place exists. Will post a photo when we get home.
Not a good road for two on a scooter but we got there. It's a pity that these places are not Shown on the local map. TFTC
Thanks a lot for this cache. No signs anywhere about how to go there, we discovered this place thanks to you (they talked about it in the local newspaper some time ago but we had read your cache description first). A very sad story... Thanks for the cache and for all the information. Picture as a proof that we have been there.
Well a bit slow going on the track as I decided to 2wd it, not something I would recommend. Had to keep stopping to remove a few bigger rocks from track as not sure if they would have done some damage underneath.

A sad indictment on our historical past.... hopefully things will improve in the future. Mr M went fishing down near the mangroves and Mrs M did some fishing of her own. He caught... nothing. She caught.... well, the photo shows half of it. She spent a couple of hours retrieving all this angling rubbish from the mangroves including Mr M's tackle that got caught on a snag. It's not hard to wait til low tide and get all the rubbish out. It was a bit scary hearing the loud snap-snap of crab claws close by but she did find a large fancy shell in the end. A good spot to camp for the night .... but beware the sandflies at dusk. They're coming to take you away, haha! Interesting spot, TFTC.
