Today after attending the Van Gogh Alive exhibition, I decided to head out solo for some bushland walks around Capalaba. My first stop was J.C. Trotter Memorial Park and detouring past the various *Big Bang Theory* geocaches, and then I took a few more miscellaneous walks grabbing some of the oldie geocaches in the vicinity. After exhausting my water supply, I decided to finish off my afternoon with driveby geocaches and short walks, in particular, finding a few more of the *Saturday in the Park* (SITP) series. In the end, walking around J.C. Trotter Memorial Park past the 17 geocaches on offer took about 2.5 hr with a mix of jogging and walking. There were a few other muggles about either jogging or walking their dogs, but I was largely solo during my trip. I am a fan of the *Big Bang Theory* TV show, so although the geocaches weren't physically themed, it was still a nice dedication series.I had noted that this oldie 07/2003 hidden geocache was recently archived on 18/07/2021, and I thought it was a bit of a shame for other visitors to have not treated this one with the respect it deserved, as well as assisting with any basic maintenance. The cache had certainly been on my bucket list given it was one of Queensland's 100 oldest geocaches!I was in the area today anyway, and so I decided to detour past this one anyway just in case it was still available to be found. After walking cross-country over logs, through spiderwebs and bushes, I soon arrived at GZ where the oldie/archived geocache was a reasonably quick find. There were a few different cache containers over its time, with a few of the logbooks damp, but to be honest, it probably didn't need too much attention to sustain it. I did enjoy seeing a lot of history here with original logbook notes, so hopefully the community powers that be can swing past and take a copy. I did manage to take a few photos of a few earlier find pages for memory sake. Thanks Rogainer for the cache placement.I'm not sure what Sweet-Sour's subsequent Write Note comment is about, regarding city-players - perhaps an unnecessary jab?
Re players comments; Have worked out the problem, too many city players - not enough cotton wool.Keep smiling mate.
Out and about for the day clearing out this reserve. Had my eye on it for a few years but with a bit of motivation and a day with nothing better to do saw a bunch of trads turn into smileys.
This one was my least favourite of the day. After a significant bush bash through knee deep tick and snake infested grass there was an overwhelming sense of disappointment as the cache was located. It's in an extremely poor condition, full of water and in need of some loving!
Unable to sign the log due to condition.

If you want to up your chances of getting a tick or snake bite this is surely the place to do it. The place is thick with grass that ticks climb to prep for ride.
There is a power tower near a shelter shed. Go directly in at this tower for the shortest route.
Nice scenery. Not hard to find cache once your near it.
The designated walking trails are nice. But the 600-800m of bush bashing isn't as pleasant because you're constantly looking for hidden stumps, hollows in the thick, knee to waist hight grass as well as snakes and spiders.
Well done to person who hide the cache...good effort.

I have a project to collate photos of original logs in old caches. These photos were taken at my last visit to the cache. Glad to see the history here!
What a great place! It’s really peaceful. I was a bit nervous about embarking on the walk to find it, given previous comments. But if you take your time and pick your path, it’s not bad at all. All is good here. It’s great to find such an oldie. I signed the new logbook and replaced everything as found. Thank you so much for maintaining this one.
I have completed the following maintenance for future finders...
All toys in 1 zip lock bag.
All cards (magic, Disney, etc) in another zip lock bag.
Both older logs in the newer container, both with zip lock bags.
New log book in zip lock bag .. as both the original and it's replacement is moldy as heck.
Removed some rubbish.

Many thanks for keeping this alive.
After lunch near Jack Rabbit, I hiked along the west side water edge to within 100m or so of the cache then made my way diagonal across the bush until arrive at gz.
The 20kg of rice that was here that a previous finder mentioned is now gone. All that's left is the bags. Didn't have room in back pack for it.
This took a bit to find but good old perseverance kicked in and after many circle round the major stump I found it.

Heading home after an awesome weekend of caching, which included a drive up Mt French, and a walk up Mt Greville and Mt Cordeaux / Bare Rock. I was keen to keep caching on the way home, but needed to be a little bit strategic about which caches I grabbed as time was limited and I was due home with the kids and to visit family for Fathers Day.
This one managed to sneak onto the list of target caches due to its vintage, being one of the oldest 100 geocaches in Queensland. It was only a few (ok, more than a few!) kilometers off the route home. After following the path for nearly a kilometer, it was time to head bush and forge our own path for the last 300m or so.
I had been talking to some friends over the weekend about how amazing it was to see the original logbook in the "Powerful Stuff" geocache, which is also one of Queensland's oldest 100. I find the history fascinating, and enjoy flicking back to the earlier logs, which tended to be less rushed, more detailed, and longer.
We strike me dead if we didn't find an old, sad looking logbook in the inner cache container here. I flicked to the first page... and saw a 2015 signature . However, a closer look verified that this was in fact the ORIGINAL LOGBOOK, with entries from 2003 on page 2. Someone had unfortunately signed the front of the original logbook in 2015 which gave the impression it was a replacement.
Well this has just made my day and for me has been the highlight of a great caching weekend. It would be amazing to see this old log preserved somehow. Photos have been taken, happy to share with those who also enjoy the history as much as I. Throwing in a FP for this alone.
Lovely location, but unfortunately I didn't have time to make it out to the dam today. Even in this area there was a plethora of muggles, which seemed to set the theme for the weekend, but they were relatively uninterested in my nerdy hobby.

Today I decided to take my bike here and find a few caches. I ended up finding 10 and rode 5km, walked a fair bit aswell in just 2 hours. I left my bike to walk to this cache and enjoyed the serenity here. At gz there were 2 container. One , the lid broken and the other in perfect condition but the log book was soaked so I added a log book in zip lock bag and put it on top of the cache with broken lid to keep it dry. Thanks for taking me here and for placing this cache here for us to enjoy
Out for our sunday Caching session with BFG.
We decided that bush bashing through to this cache was a good idea, I can hear your eyes roll from here.
Then of course we came at the cache from the wrong angle, then the place that the cache should have been, it was not.
so we widened the search and BAM BFG again, although to be fair i had looked close to the cache and managed to miss it.
the container needs some maintenance and the log was soggy, unfortunately i didn't have a replacement log with me.

Easy find put for a family stroll. Log was too damp to sign so send a message with photo.
Popped out for a late afternoon cache. Dodged the afternoon showers to log a few caches.

The trek in was harder than the find! Log is saturated, will need to be replaced

Chamad was telling me the other day that he was wanting to try and do 50 caches in a day for the badge, so yesterday I asked if he was keen to go out and find them. We organised a time and place to start our run which was by Burbank. We wandered around a few reserves and then decided to head towards Springwood for a few Earth caches, mystery’s and trads.
All in all we had a great day out and we’re both completely exhausted.
Sorry for the generic post.

What an awesome day or should that be exhausting! Out with geonayfee to try and complete 50 plus caches in a day. With this cache we completed it.
We completed 2 series and a few target caches, a few earth caches and a couple of puzzles…. Awesome day and a lot of driving and walking but the challenge was completed, thank you for being part of our challenge, next is 80 in a day
one of our target caches due to it's age, easy find

***COs- still trying to catch up on my significant logging backlog. It started as a series of unfortunate events in 2019 and went from there. I was initially trying to log sequentially but have misplaced an SD card and that held things up so now it's a haphazard affair and progress is being made. Logging your cache on the day I visited it, not the day I'm logging on so it could be a few years back.****************************************** Out on my 365/366 daily streak challenge which turned out to be bad timing in attempting this in 2020!????Came in here for the favourite points?? on Jack Rabbit and also this golden oldie. Probably took the longest route in but it's a nice area, why not see all of it!??Signed the log and replaced before making tracks back to the jalopy before it got dark.TFTC Rogainer??
Out to finish this series and the last few trad days needed for a challenge.
Easy find after negotiating the track obstacles and Bush bash. TN. Left a couple of swaps.
No sign of the lake.

Out today with my Geocaching’s buddy Grannysmith1947. Our target again was one old cache and a animal cache for that animal alphabet challenge. Have two more to get. After that one it now leaves me one to get. Yippee .
This was the cache I targeted for today.
But there is 17 caches in this park, I have to clear this park out. Found 16 one DNF, so not to bad I think.
Then Grannysmith1947 notice another old cache in the park next door. So we had to visit that old one to.
So two old caches today. And 4 yesterday
Plus two 2006 ones too

It was a hot day today, so what would a couple of crazies like Fangsoki and I do, but head here for a 2km hike in the middle of the day. Mind you we were also trying to put my car under its paces today to make sure the overheating problem it was having recently had been fixed. And so far so good.
Pulling up in the carpark the car temperature gauge was reason that it was 36° outside. Good thing we had stopped for a slurpee on the way.
There was no point in delaying the inevitable any longer. Out we hopped and grabbed my hat, and Fangsoki’s rain jacket for head cover, as we hadn’t exactly preplanned this adventure, and off we headed. The beginning of the track wasn’t so bad, there were at least trees providing speckled shade, but about half way around our adventure we found ourselves on very exposed track, full sun until it was time to veer off into the bush.
Arriving at GZ we were certainly feeling rather warm, so I got a little excited when I saw a likely spot. It was big, there was a hole, and there was definitely something in it. Fangsoki took his usual stance of leaning against a tree to humourously watch my attempts and my disappointment to find it was not a cache I had discovered. Of course he knew that and happened to have placed himself exactly where I should have been, the second likely spot for said item.
Around I went and discovered the item for myself while Mr Fangsoki had a good chuckle.
Then it was time to traipse back out of the bush, back along the sun exposed track, and back towards the car with a quick stop at the picnic area to cool down with a little of the amazingly cool tank water splashed on us.
Thanks for the cache Rogainer.
This cache is my fourth counting towards the Rambler’s Challenge Cache (GC2XBA7)

I had been warned this was rather a mission but was ever so determined to collect all 4 oldies on my list for the morning . Companion remained under a shady shelter whilst I slogged in the heat traversing the shortest possible route. Alas to reach GZ it still involved a bush bash of over 300m through grass tree country. Lots of holes to avoid and fallen timber to climb through. At GZ at first I was searching for a hollow when despite my heat stroke I spied something that looked like a superb hide! Luckily for me I was correct! Signed and trudged my way back !! Tftc
Early morning bike ride to collect the caches here.
Just me and a few wallabies here this morning.
I parked the bike and walked in. Have seen that this one features in the oldest list, it is always with a special feeling I sign the oldies.
Thank you for this cache Rogainer

Quite the bush bash to this one with the geohound! A few spiderwebs and I’m glad it’s not hot cause I’m sure that snakes would love it out here. I love to find the old caches, thanks for placing and maintaining! Now back through the bush to the trail! TFTC!
Midday after arranging to meet ESCR to complete Makku Mob - Tingalpa we stopped for an ice cream which turned into 3pm lunch because Oddiewan looked at his stats and saw he only needed 20 to reach geocache find number 200. He found Trotter park on the map full of 18 hides— all with recent finds and logs with the likes of “quick find”. A plan was then hatched— neither of us had enough battery power to last the whole hunt so we made the plan to economise our devices turning off all redundancies. We parked at the trailhead and headed off, with the idea that we spend only 5 min at each hide and employed a bit of a get-ahead approach where I remained to sign the log, once found, while he ehaded off to search for the next. In most cases I caught up before he had laid hands on the next one. It was efficient and we found all 18, only one in poor condition (but dry). A brilliant day ending in us finding the final three back near home. Thanks for all the caches. This was a great park to send a Sunday afternoon. Cheers, semik
I was in need of 11 gems for the mystery at the museum challenge and the filters suggested this would be a good place to tackle today. Extra happy to find an older cache too. TFTC
Our plans for the day were busted due to the weather. That left us at a loose end and not knowing what to do. Oh that’s right, we have finally decided to pull up our socks and complete the oldest and finest challenge, we told you that we get easily distracted with other caching ideas and plans, this is why it takes us so long to complete anything. The decision was made to come over this way and grab another one. So far the weather gods were being nice to us and it hadn’t poured down rain on us.
Mr 4ando has this thing going on today that instead of getting back out onto any main paths, he just cuts through instead, which is just as well really as we weren’t hitting any sort of terrain in here, we have never been in looking for caches and the area has been so flat, quite pleasant for a change, it just took us by surprise. Arriving at GZ and once again Mr 4ando goes ‘There it is,’ but fails to pick it up. What’s going on here, leaving your wife to do all the dirty work today, don’t you want to get your hands dirty princess. Then I remember yesterday he forgot to move his finger out of the way of the drill and is now sporting a gaping hole in it and is trying to keep it clean. Just as well, otherwise we may have had words about his delicate hands out here.
Another find and another oldie to the tally.

Out today to conclude this series that was left to be concluded some months back....This was the 3rd of the 4 finds needed...this one isn't part of the series but it's probably the best find of them all.
Lakeside has been a cache I've been meaning to tick off for years...I even got to within 300ms of it one time but the day was rainy and the 'another day' excuse sounded too good. Well, on a blue day there's no excuses. Bushbashed to this one from the closest Big Bang cache and firstly found a bunch of large rice bags in what seemed like the best location.
Not letting myself wonder too much about the odd rice bag find, I moved on to the next spot and quickly found the large cache. Signed and then the fun of running through the bush to find the quickest way out began....TFTC!

The cache was found easily enough once at GZ.

Out today with the family for a walk on such a nice warm winter’s day. We decided to do a lap around the JC Trotter Memorial Park and to see how many caches we can find along the way.
After getting a nearby cache we decided to skirt around the waters edge to this one. And after coming across the bags of rice as well still in the same spot as before, we then located the cache not to far away. All good with this cache.

After finding the nearby BBT3 cache we made our way through the bush to this one. Was slow going but we finally got there. Coords were spot on. Cache was well hidden in its host.
Inside the big hollow tree nearby was 20kg of rice. Huh? And a little further afield was a camp fireplace, toilet rolls and bottles of water. The things one finds in the bush.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache Rogainer.

What a pleasant area to view on post cards or via other person's happy shots. When you're walking through knee high spear grass between the grass trees waiting for snakes or bunyips to tackle you, the serenity of the area starts to wane. When I packed up from BBT3, it was a touch over 200+ metres bush bash to this 'old' cache.
Progress was slow having to avoid logs, downed branches, and areas of longer grass. Started counting the progress toward GZ in 25 metre increments and even sighted the lake between the shrubbery. Eventually came to an area that looked like a train wreck. All that dead wood around the place!! Widened the search area at GZ and spotted a large accumulation of bark hiding the container.

After spending the previous week working out the best way to attack this cache and reading some past logs, I was none the wiser and so decided just to suck it up and try a direct line from the previous cache. Earlier in the day we had climbed possibly the highest mountain in Australia and had walked the loop of the park picking up difficult caches in 50 degree heat. Luckily I don't know the meaning of the word; exaggeration.
Our legs were definitely getting weary and the pace through the long grass had slowed a bit. We had to dodge the old fallen tree and resettled many a cobweb but the metres were counting down slowly. At least we could look up and see the water which was running high after all the rain.
We finally arrived and Mrs Woodyrothwell perched under a tree while I went looking around the couple of obvious features. On the second bo-peep I spied some bark which had miraculously fallen in a near-vertical position on top of the cache. We had set out to find two old caches today and our mission was complete. Unfortunately we still had to get out of here, somehow! tftc

We finally arrived and Mrs Woodyrothwell perched under a tree while I went looking around the couple of obvious features. On the second bo-peep I spied some bark which had miraculously fallen in a near-vertical position on top of the cache. We had set out to find two old caches today and our mission was complete. Unfortunately we still had to get out of here, somehow! tftc
Thought we would collect a few caches whilst in the area on the last day of the year. This one had us on a journey to no where at one stage but finally found our way through to GZ for a quick find once there.

We had a great day collecting caches in the Burbank area today. This was our 7th for the day.
We thought we could access this cache better by relying on the satellite map. Such hard yakka going through the bush.
Lid broken but there's another container inside.
TFTC Rogainer. All good with this cache.
Happy New Year!

This was a rather long walk in the bush!
But we preserved so geobuddies and I were relieved that cache was found!
Thanks for the cache!!

Out for the day on the southside with nikid1.
Had quite a bushbash to make our way to this one. We spied it from a distance away as it was fairly exposed, covered with a bit more camo once replaced.
There were 2 log books in the cache, we signed the old original one.

Out with KerriMG caching today.
Lovely to find an original log book. Had a read of a few old logs. Added our own.

A fair walk and plenty of spider webs on the way to the cache but once we were in the area the cache was located fairly quickly.Thanks.
A bit of a bush bash from Big Bang Theory 3 to this cache, but we were rewarded with our second largest cache to date, as well as it being an Inception cache (cache within a cache - thanks to RoddyC for this maintenance addition)! Traded a smiley face toy for a vintage aeroplane .
Found 29th August @ 1550 - found with wife on our little walk. What a bush bash. Maybe not the smartest cache to find with pregnant wife but after a bit of effort the cache was found. TNLNSL TFTH
Mrs RoddyC and I are working around the lake today.
It always feels good to find an old cache. Despite its age it is in good condition probably because of its protected hiding spot. We read previous logs about its state so came prepared with another container which now contains the bits and pieces to preserve it even longer. It neatly fots inside the box.
Log signed and replaced. Found at 10.25am on 9th August 2017. TFTC, Rogainer

I took a very round-about way to get to this cache. But it was a nice area to walk though, and the undergrowth was manageable. Found cache easily once I got to the GZ. TFTC.
We were in this area today for a walk to find another series of nearby caches. When we arrived at GZ, it was great to see such a large container out in the bush. After logging the book, we headed to the water to see if we could make our way back via the waters edge.

With my cat deciding she was starving at 5:55am, I decided I may as well stay up and go geocaching . I decided to head back to finish the nearby Big Bang Series and whilst I'm here I'll decide if I'm brave enough to complete this cache .
I had just found Big Bang Theory 3, which was quite tricky and buoyed by this success I was feeling up for the challenge! I walked from this cache to the lake which was stunning
But to my dismay the foliage was quite thick on the beach and I thought I might need to back track to the path

With a free day, I slipped over to the southside to try and gather up the remaining handful of older caches I needed to finish the Oldest and Finest challenge, with a few others found along the way.
Made the most of the caches placed in this area enroute to finding this one. There wasn't much of a trail or even a footpad to follow, so I followed the gps and soon found the big box. Startled a few wallabies along the way, clearly they don't get visitors very often.
This cache is in good condition, and makes smilie #3112. Thanks **Rogainer** for showing us this spot. Feel free to discover our trackable TGQNRV .

Came over here especially for this "oldie" this morning. I'll try for a few nearby caches on the way back out, but this one was my main goal for today

Relogging this under individual account, previously a member of Gaz'n'Kab account.
We set off today in search of a few of Queensland's Oldest Caches and this one was next up on the list for us. We made our way across the main road and found the parking coords and set off along the trails in search of this one. With about 300m to go, we headed bush and enjoyed the walk out towards GZ where we soon spotted the cache and added our names to the logbook [^]

Beautiful walk. Quick and easy find. Chasing the old caches for a challenge
Found today while on a nice afternoon of walking with the better half. 26 finds for the day. Thank you for placing this cache. Tftc
Today I decided to organise an adventure with some friends and their parents who have been interested in Geocaching for quite some while- I'm so glad I did because they had a blast! The caches in this park were extraordinary to find and the creativity certainly didn't go unnoticed! TFTC and for the incredible day!
It was lovely to see such an old cache still in good condition
Favorite point from me as I loved admiring the lake from here

Divide and conquer. Fast one here while the others headed for what would become our only dnf.
This one had been on our radar for many moons due mainly to its age and unusual D/T rating. We'd heard that it was also in a nice area along with a bunch of other interesting caches.
So we headed off into the bush in the good company of Mr Fangsoki and it seemed like no time at all before we were at GZ. The find was made quite quicky and the logbook signed.
It was a priveledge to be able to claim this venerable prize.
