CaptainVimes and I have crossed the ditch to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks. We had to come to Karaka Point as it reminded me of my late friend Karicka. Fun little bush bash and quickly found the rather large survey mark. Then headed down to the end to admire the views. Thanks Trigger_Fish and happy caching
This cache was in my records as being my oldest DNF with my previous attempt being in 2011. For some reason, I didn't actually log my visit and I cannot remember anything about it. I thought I would have another go today in very pleasant weather. It wasn't the easiest of places to access and my GPSr didn't seem in agreement with the coordinates but it got me close enough to spot the hint object and, soon after, the cache. It's good to achieve yellow smiley status on such an old cache.
Oh wow, did not have a clue what to do before reading the logs. I guess it did look different here 21 years ago Eventually started my bush bash but somehow managed to circle GZ without spotting the marker. Just as I was like: where could that thing be? I saw it! Nice oldie, tftc!
Had the afternoon free after our Cessna flight was shortened to 20 minutes from three hours, so was driving down this road and saw this reserve pulled off and bam a geocache! So glory glory to Georgia and I popped down the trail learned a little history enjoyed the views immensely, and did a little bush track to get the cache. It wasnt too bad, but the bushes did cause a couple little scratches on the arms, but again not too bad. Dropped a few Pate tags and a key ring from my hometown. Took a tiny dice and a tiny little squirrel. Thanks for maintaining cache appreciate it.
Headed up to Picton for some caching, coffee, a swim and a picnic. The list was getting longer. Lovely stroll here to an old cache. Took a while to locate GZ but you will know when you get there. Thanks for the smiley. Happy to add a favourite point.
Thanks heaps. Awesome little treasures inside. Left a jibbet for whoever is there next.
Its a cache to find and sign, but nothing special about it other than the area itself. If you are looking for cool caches based on fav points, this isn't the one. Just a log in a box in the bush.
Trouve ! / Found it ! Une fois le rpte trouve, c'est facile. Le point de vue juste aprs vaut le coup d'il 4517me cache trouve.Merci Moneydork pour la cache Once the repeat is found, it's easy. The view just after is worth a look 4517th cache found.Thank you Moneydork for the cache
Roadtripping in NZ from Finland. Today on our way from Wellington to Blenheim searched a couple of caches along the way and this was one of them. First we couldnt find it and were on the edge of calling it a DNF but then we thought what would a Maori do and went even further.
Our NEW ZEALAND - TASMANIA - AUSTRALIA JOURNEY takes us to beautiful places and provides us with an incredible number of wonderful moments and experiences.Occasionally we also visit a few GeoCaches along the way.A short "bush walk"...?? to sign the guest book...??!Thank you for placing, maintaining and caring snapfish2 from Switzerland????PS: Translated with the Deepl app??
Was admiring the progress on my Jasmer when I discovered there was a New Zealand Jasmer challenge! So this August 2003 placement is another reason for a trip to this area. Interesting historical site to visit. Easy find after going bush for the last few metres, thanks Trigger_Fish!
After years on our bucket list and three cancellations due to Covid, we are thrilled to finally be here. Following several cruises we flew from Sydney, Australia to Wellington, New Zealand to begin our next adventure. Picked up our rental vehicle and will be driving, exploring, hiking, and caching both islands for 3.5 weeks. This was the last cache on the South Island that we hunted since we board the ferry tomorrow morning for the North Island. We've had a fabulous adventure on the South Island. Just one vehicle in the parking lot as we hit the trailhead. Read the information boards along the path as we viewed the historic sites. Walked all the way to the point to enjoy the view and snap some photos. Met two fishermen coming up from the water, but they told us they didn't have any luck fishing today. We searched for the cache on the return trip. The foliage is very thick, but NW successfully retrieved the container and added our ink to the log. Thanks for adding to our adventure today, Nukeworker and Racquetball Girl, Arkansas, USA
Nice walk to the point before heading back to christchurch after a nice holiday in the sounds. TFTC!
Cache was a bit soggy and needed some attention so we updated it and freshened it up. Make sure to write your name in the book! Enjoy
After a walk to the point and a read of the interesting interpretive signs (a bit too much supposition going on for me), I went diving into the bush and found both a trig point (yay!) and a cache (less yay, bit soggy), needing some care and attention (which I don't have the equipment for right now).
On holiday from Adelaide.

On a winter Roadie around the South Island, picking up the occasional cache along the way.

fought our way in to find this one! but a quick find, a beautiful view on the sound tftc
After dropping the boy at A&P park (the football central of Blenheim) I zipped over here, via Endeavor Park. And, again, with just 250 of the 1000 lumen light source needed I made it into the plinth and then the cache. Seeing the many previous logs saying damp log, I dropped in a couple of sheets of waterproof paper to keep it going.
TFTC. I’m a surveyor so took photo of trig station for a tax deduction . Log is totally drowned. Sorry, didn’t have anything to replace it. Long time since this Trig. Stn was occupied.
Another very old cache, 2003 vintage! Was staying nearby so dropped in. Very overgrown to get to the survey post with barely a caching trail. Container very wet, and logbook the consistency of fresh tofu! Took a photo of GZ holding back the overgrowth. Thanks Moneydork.
After a bit of a hunt I managed to find it - was further in than I expected! Logbook was absolutely saturated though, felt like a wet block of cheese . Couldn't sign it unfortunately. TFTC!
Mit meiner Tochter heute diesen leider etwas feuchten Cache besucht. Vielen Dank und herzliche Grüße vom Rumtreiber aus Braunschweig, Deutschland.
TFTC just had a swim at the bay, then bush bashing to find the cache. Needs attention though as it's wet, so didn't sign it.
Today some caches around Picton.
This wet one need maintain.
Gave the box upside down in the hidde.
Thanks.

Nice spot, thanks for the cache.

I came out this way after the bridge tournament to find a cx and get some fresh air. Nice walk on a beautifully sunny day. I liked the hint item. TFTC.
Bit of bush bashing. Paper to wet to sign and didn’t have any more on us. Found with judithrichards
A wet bush bash! A bit of a struggle to find at first. All soaked so couldn’t sign. We drained the container. Thank you for the geocache!
Decided to do a drive around the headland and bays this afternoon as a bit of time to spare. Log is wet, sorry no replacement with us. TFTC
We wound our way around to here watching out for logging trucks. After we had found the cache and returned we watched a logging truck and trailer come around the corner using all the road, with the driver talking on his phone. We followed behind him! The track to the point is well paved and steps down to the water where we watched sesls swimming. Then the bush bash in to find the cache and geodetic point. Very well enclosed with trees. The cache was full of water and log book unwritable. Thanks for bringing us here moneydork
It took a bit of a rummage through the bush, found it eventually. I tipped the water from the container. The bag was wet too. Log book saturated. Unable to write on it so too a photo without giving anything away. Hope this will do. Needs new log book and bag.
definitely the oldest cache i’ve found! 19 years and counting. if you’re struggling with this one you need to go right into the bushes and look for a very large black and white post amongst the trees. the cache is then easy to spot.
An interesting walk and fairly quick cache find. Staying with a friend up the road for a few days, so stopped off here while passing. Not sure why I haven't noticed this one before, given its age!

The surveyors aren’t going to be using that survey mark anytime soon! Actually spotted the cache before seeing the survey mark!
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions. On the home leg now back to Dunners!
Thanks for the cache, Trigger_Fish

We were so impressed with the walk and promising views we walked right past our goal. Deciding to get it on the way back we carried on. Path to the cache is a bit overgrown, but it is still there. Trust your instincts.

Since my original plan of being in Auckland this long weekend is not possible, I decided to head South for a couple of days. Took the ferry from Wellington this morning, picked up a cheap rental, and off I went. I was targeting some specific caches for a personal goal as well as some fun mystery solves and some just 'cos. This was one of them All good here, and found without too much trouble. TFTC
8 for 8 today. Almost gave up on this one. The marker is large, but well hidden from the main track. Poured water from the container, and tried to dry the bags which were not sealed. Log was reasonably dry in spite of this.
Heading on a geo adventure with BCD to the top of the South Island...Picton, Blenheim, Havelock and Nelson.
Day trip around the coast along Port Underwood Road.
This was a target cache for the month hidden grid. A beautiful but crisp winters morning made for a lovely walk to GZ with great views at the end. Didn't take too long to locate hint object then cache soon after TFTC

At last the rain stopped and we drove out here for a walk out the point. On our way back to Picton we noticed the road had been closed. No surprise there. But lucky we headed out early and enjoyed a walk out.
Mum, Dad & the boys ticking off some NZ 'Worth the Detour' locations. Today is Karaka Point. Picked up this geocache along the way.

In Picton for a few days with the Tuia Matauranga roadshow. Took the opportunity to get a couple of caches with my dad whilst here. He was showing me some of the historical sights and this was one them. Took us a while to find the cache because we couldn't find the hint marker. But after awhile dad found it - that's two for two for the newbie cacher! Thanks for the placement in such a neat spot <3
Lovely walk to site with buddy ethness. Took a bit to fined the entrance then quick find. Lovely panoramic views tftc
Grabbed a few caches while waiting for the ferry to Wellington. Quick find after figuring out where to enter the bush. Both the survey peg and the cache spotted at the same time. Cache all good, we hid it a bit better so it wasn't quite as visible.
Road tripping from nelson to Chch. Just completed the snout loop, so was nice to do an easier shorter walk. Cool history
Great short walk with lots of history and stunning views. A bit of a fight to get to cache. We left where we found, but possibly a bit away from original placement. TFTC
Family holiday time...a couple nights Kaikoura, a couple Picton & finish off in Nelson.....
After a couple nights in Kaikoura its time for Pictons couple of nights...
a family drive and a wander here this evening. What a cool historic spot. Took a couple of attempts before coming up trumps. Thanks!

Oh wow! Took us a little longer, actually!! But it was indeed a great find and in an awesome spot too! Read the previous comments and it really helped us find the cache. A few muggles around but ya know, do some yoga while waiting for them to pass always works! Thank you!
Day 9 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)
Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.
Having arrived at my rest a few km short of Picton last night in darkness, today's plan was to get to Picton and then work my way back along the coast ending up somewhere near Kaikoura tonight. It's a journey I had made on my very first day visiting the South Island back in 1988, and I was keen to do it again and also see for myself what has happened to the coastline after the Earthquakes almost 4 years ago. That was a hell of a night, even for me some 150km away at the time.
Once in Picton I soon headed to get the caches I had targetted, such as this one. I hoped it would fill a gap in my Jasmer Grid. I had enjoyed the drive to get here, as the sun was really shining down on me now. Parking the campervan, I made my way along the walk towards GZ. When I got to within about 15m, I looked at the Hint. "Survey Marker? What survey marker!" I thought to myself. But it soon became apparent what was required so I was glad of the sunshine (and therefore no rain) as I got closer to where I needed to be.
Arriving at GZ, it didn't take long to spot what I was looking for, and the cache was soon in hand. I encountered no issues with the cache or log, so I was able to do the usual caching administration and grab the pair of TB's I found before replacing everything and heading back to the camper.
Thanks for placing this cache.

At first I thought my GPS wasn't working properly. But no, it's actually pretty accurate, you really have to dive in to find this one. At first I didn't know what I was looking for but following the geocacher paths it's hard to miss. TFTC
Was really stumped but then just got stuck into it at found it such a cool area.
What a wonderful spot to bring a book, sit, read and pass some time. You will need to go into the bush (not hard) find the marker and you will find the cache tftc
The cache is 200mm from both/between survey markers. We went commando when muggles walked passed, didn't even know we were there, could've blasted them with our air-machine guns, wouldn't know what hit them, bwahahaha.
Cache is a 200ml sistema box, log in good condition.

During our roadtrip through New Zealand I found this cache "Karaka Point (Nelson/Marlborough)" from Moneydork on 5 maart 2020 13:29.
It is a pity I did not find this was but even the hint was not helpful, matbe the next person had better luck.
Groetjes/Greetings and TFTC from a Dutchman (a long way from home, but home is here the heart is, on the bus).

Great views on the way to get this cache. Unfortunately we didn’t link our visit with the time of a ferry going past for a good photo. I am using this case to fill my Oldie grid.
The final day of our road trip and we are having lots of laughs, hunting hard and signing logs. Signed NE as I am caching with Nosynel. Thank you for the cache .
