I decided to climb Tabletop today for some footage to be used in my educational resource I am designing on One Tree Hill battle. The uphill was fairly easy for me, just a bit of puffing. The downhill was torture. At one point I got a stitch in my hip which I was not aware was possible. The views were simply stunning. I got the evidence I wanted and happened to grab 3 of the caches while I was up here. The challenge cache, the new cache for my DT grid and of course the oldie. Thanks for these caches Colin.

Left Brisbane this morning with a Goal to pick up a few caches with a specific attribute attached with a view to nearing completion of a challenge cache Im working on. Made the drive out to Toowoomba and arrived about 9:30. Not knowing what the climb would be like I parked at the bottom of the range and collected a few trades and a letterbox on my way to the ascent. Let me say my knees are killing me after that climb, but the views were well worth it. Caches found in good condition and logs all dry. Signed and return safely to there hiding spots.A big thanks to the cache owners for placing these caches for the enjoyment of others.Cheers

Have been planing a hike to the top of Tabletop Mountain for a few months and decided to coincide it with my 2000th cache find milestone. Im currently trying to complete my 366 calendar challenge this year and with my 2000th find rapidly approaching, its become quite the juggling act in planning leading up to today. I locked in the date a few weeks ago once my days off from work were known, but my first attempt was thwarted by wet weather. After a week of sunshine, I was hopeful that the trail would be sufficiently dry to make another attempt. The trek up wasnt as arduous as I was expecting. Great views from the top and Im now glad to shake the 2000th find monkey off my back.TB Surrey Travel Tag dropped off with a RobS72 2024 Pathtag.TFTC. SL. TBs Prado Owl , The Great Leap Forward Geocoin , Bee Croc , Rawhide , Sheeps on the Journey (Orange) , RobS72 2000 Find GC and Kiwi Bird visited.Find # 2000.

Our tour today took us to Table Top.We parked our camper van at the car park, put on our hiking boots and packed our small backpack with food and drink for the hike. Now we set off on the long, stony path to the top.Once we reached the top, we were happy about the beautiful view.We also looked for lots of caches on our hiking tour. Thanks to all the owners for the caches Team sissifalke

Absolutely loved my trek up to the top of the table and back. It had been on my To Do List for sooooo long and doing it with a beautiful group of cachers just made it perfect. The fact that there were also many great caches with either age, type of DT attraction was just the icing on the cake. If I had enough in my stash I would give every hide a FP and then times it by three. Alas, I cant. But at least you know the thought was there . I apologise for the generic logs. I dont normally do that, but I have such a backlog to catch up on.

Thanks to the CO for his assistance in this one. Hello cliff edge Smile

03-Feb-24
I had a lovely morning walking, climbing, scrambling and chatting all the way up Table Top for the Event, Picnic at the Table on the Top, organised by AtTheLakeHouse. It was a good turnout, of 13 cachers and once cachers son. We enjoyed lovely weather too. The view was spectacular from all angles.Making our way to GZ here, the Adopter had told us that he intended to move the cache, as it was becoming unsafe. Approaching, he made the find so that the rest of us stayed safe. We all then signed the log, and the Adopter moved the cache to a better location,I wonder if the original COs realise that the cache they created more than 20 years ago is still being visited by cachers? Thanks, Brother Colin, for adopting this cache to keep it going for our enjoyment. Thanks for the maintenance here.

I haven't climbed Tabletop since I was a teenager and in those days we used to walk down from our house up on the range so it was a much harder walk. And of course, there were no geocaches at all back then. Today I was joined by my teenager who was looking for adventure, and Kolour who joined us for the drive. It felt a bit like cheating driving down to the new carpark right at the base of the mountain. We arrived just in time to meet up with the geocaching group and then we all headed off together. The first time the group stopped to look for a cache, my son asked me if he could go on ahead. By the time we reached the top of the first rise, he was already visible up on the scree section. He made quick work of the walk while the rest of us went at a slower pace, stopping at caches and waypoints on the way and chatting to one another. It was probably one of the most social walks I've ever done. Because I was so focussed on the conversations I hardly even noticed the exertion of going up the hill. When we arrived at the top, my son came to find us because he was keen to eat. Everyone insisted on gathering at the exact event co-ordinates event though the grass was quite long at that spot. So after standing around and sharing some food, the group quickly dispersed again with some returning straight down the mountain and others looping around the top to look for the other caches. My son showed me the great spot he had found to sit and wait for us and not wanting to wait any more up the top, he then returned at his own speed to the car. The smaller group found the 2 caches we were looking for (and one we weren't) before making our way carefully back down to the carpark. After the climb we stopped in at Picnic Point to reward ourselves with lunch and to admire the view of Tabletop from above. Thanks BrotherColin for this cache! It was nice to meet you today, and chat with you about caching in the local area as we climbed up one of the icons of Toowoomba.

The cliff edge very close and gz is collapsing. So, The new location is less than 50m away and MUCH safer. Happy Geocaching everyone.

Oh my god… oh my god… oh my god…

An early morning journey up Tabletop…

Ever since discovering the joy of chasing oldies this cache has been on my radar… I just couldn’t get over the mental hurdles to get up here…

This is the third time I’ve tried to climb this hill and finally the experience and good humour of some wonderful locals got me past the terrifying parts of the climb…

Good coordinates made for a quick find…

Thanks Brother Colin

This almost topped claiming FTF on the new Earthcache up here… almost…

A trip to Perth checking out some of the awesome places along the way in ACT, NSW, Qld and NT. Grabbing some old caches and missing LGAs. TFTC.
A tough climb but worth it for the 360 views and also an old cache. Now to get back before the summer sun.

As the other 2 in my company today had already signed the caches on the table top mountain and so I flew solo racing up the hill. There were muggles everywhere and managed to sign the 3 caches up here without interruption.

I've had this old cache (oldest 100 in Queensland!) on my to do list for quite some time, but every time I have attempted Table Top.... life had a way of giving me the giant NO. Today, I thought I was going to bat 0 from 4 attempts, as the road to tabletop was once again closed. However, with a bit of indifference to the rules, and a further walk than necessary, we found a way to the top. What a glorious walk, if not a little rocky in places. It turned out to be the perfect day to climb - not too hot, not too cold, not too windy, almost deserted, and we were even visited by a "big ass bird of something". I think it was an eagle.

TFTC Brother Colin!

After a weekend spent around Oakey and Toowoomba, we spent this day around Mount peel and Tabletop mountain.
This oldie had been on our list to find, and we really enjoyed the challenge of the walk to GZ. The views were spectacular, and with a mild day and a few clouds, the temperature was never too hot. We were glad to have brought our water with us, and today the Trail seemed very quiet.
Thanks Brother Colin for maintaining this lovely old one in such a beautiful location.
We add a favourite point for sure.

01-Nov-21
After caching this morning with Domsky around Mt Peel, we agreed it would be great to tackle Table Top as a way to finish our epic caching weekend.
This oldie was a must do for this journey, arriving at gz we wandered around for a bit looking in the wrong places. Mrs Domsky soon spotted what we were looking for. After signing the log we made our return journey to the cars. So good to find another oldie.
Thanks Brother Colin for placing the cache here and keeping it alive.

A great hike/scramble up this mountain. Very windy today. Some people were turning around but once up the last climb all good as long as you have a warm jacket. Swapped a travel bug with a travel bug.

It was a little of my phone gps to the left but found it!

19-Apr-21
We popped over the other side of the Tabletop to locate this cache, admiring the views and wondering whether the prickly pears would be any good to eat. Coming closer to GZ, I spotted a small geotrail through grass. I followed this to a steep edge, where I turned around and found the cache sitting proudly at the base of a tree. Back up at the trail, I found a prickly pear close enough to pick from its spiny host. It was quite ripe, but not very tasteful otherwise.

Dropped off a TB too.

On my way to a weekend of caching in Stanthorpe and Warwick, this was my side trip before my travels south.
After completing a few caches and labs nearby I meet up with Triple turmoil for a nice walk up to the top of Tabletop Mountain. There are a couple of caches along the way but this one was my main reason for getting up here. The container needs some love but other than that it was a great find. This fills in a hole in my date grid, it has been on my to do list for some time, super excited to have grabbed this one.
With the log signed and cache carefully replaced it was off to another in the area. Thanks for placing this one here and keeping it alive, so good to see some oldies still kicking along, a favourite point given for your efforts, thank you.

22-Jan-21
On this day I had just completed an 18km bike ride around a forest in Brisbane. Was going home to pack to go the Stanthorpe the next day with some fellow geocachers, when Chamad called and said he decided to leave a day early and that I should join him in Toowoomba later for walk up Tabletop Mountain. A 'walk' huh? Anyway, the thrill of the chase had me quickly throwing everything (except the things I actually needed) into my car and heading straight to this mountain that I have always wanted to 'walk' up.

Bit of a mission after my body was already pushed that morning. And even more of a mission since that moutain 'climb' certainly put me out of my comfort zone. However, it was a completed mission.

Our first find after the long walk up. A great feeling to get one of qld's oldies.

After get the animal challenge we did the loop round, went completely past the cache, put a rock on the other survey point (there are 2) then went back to find this.
Hubby found it, then I put a few swaps in n signed the log.
Chased a few quail by accident to which a chicken hawk chased.

Having made the incredible journey to the top of Tabletop to find the challenge cache, we couldn't leave without putting a smilie here too. The cache was found easily by following an obvious geotrail. We signed the log and despite the fact we thought we were the only ones up there at the time, were interrupted right when signing the log, by a lone female walker.
Must say, we are surprised by the terrain rating on this cache- all we can say is, there must be much tougher geocachers out there than us! We have found easier T4.5 caches! The climbing required to get here is about at the limit of what we would do (rather than could do) while preserving our late-50's bones. When younger, the steep final climb wouldn't have phased me, but with less confidence in my body (and my shoes), the drop was pretty scary and we took it slowly. Mr STW was the (excuse the pun) rock, and helped me plan my descent. Well, we made it, and were passed by dozens of much younger folk on the journey, including some kids, the youngest of whom must be about 4. I wouldn't take my 4-year-old up there, but each to their own. The kids seemed to handle it well and were still chattering excitedly on their way down! We ourselves were excited to see an echidna just before we got back to our car.
Thanks for the cache, we enjoyed the views and the fascinating journey up.

Great walk, and great views. Thanks for placing this cache - all is good here. ️

Nyssaflutterby,1minniemoo and I headed up here this weekend for my 4000th find and I had (crazily?) chosen this nice oldie to mark the occasion.
1MM and NF gave me the job of finding this one so I climbed down carefully and it wasn't long before I had the cache in hand. I signed the log while clinging to the tree.
I wouldn't have made it to 4000 finds without Nyssaflutterby and 1Minniemoo's help Smile
Nice to find another oldest and finest. Now to get back down the mountain again!

27/6/20 Find #3800
NyssaFlutterby, wombles and co and I were on a weekend in Toowoomba for wombles’ 4000 milestone.
And this Oldest and Finest was to be that milestone cache. We had made our way along the easier parts of the journey, and finally we had come to that scramble zone, the make or break. There was no option for the “break” to happen today, the goal was in sight. Mighty glad we had chosen what was supposed to be a winter’s day, we couldn’t imagine what the heat would be like doing this in summer! We made our way up, up, up, and soon we were back on flat ground, and enjoying a nice bit of breeze. All we had left was to head around here and for wombles to make the find, the one that would be her 4000th find!
And soon, that moment was achieved.
We had passed so many people on our journey today, all feeling a number of the emotions we felt during today’s journey, from those making quick exclamations as they caught themselves from sliding at the gravel zone, to the girl hilariously telling her family she doesn’t want to die this way and that her friends would miss her (note she was only heading over near “Mountain Goat” at the time), to the awesome bunch of guys with their boom box music playing as they skipped on down the slope in high spirits. At this stage of the day, with wombles getting this milestone achievement we definitely could resonate with those lads and their high spirits.
Thanks for the cache Brother Colin, a memorable journey, and congratulations wombles and co on a great achievement!

Funny how this trip to Toowoomba came about. I posted on Facebook to see if anyone would like to go Kayaking, Got a reply that most cacher where going to Toowoomba for a Cito at Table Top Mountain car park. And the get together was for Brother Colin and Teamdfl 50th birthday.

I signed 13 log books 5 were challenge cache.
In that 13 was 5 traditional 1 letterbox, 1 cito and 6 mystery. 5 of the mysteries are challenge caches which ones do I qualify for.

I went down below at first and found the lid from the original cache. But I then realised that I need to be higher. Back up at the correct elevation, I made a quick find. I think I could see the original container further down the slope but there was too much vegetation and rocks for me to be able to reach it. I have left the original lid with the new container. Thanks for the cache

On a day trip up from the Gold Coast with E_Smiley and wayn0 to look for a few special caches on our to-do list. When we arrived in Toowoomba it was a picture perfect day with blue skies and a nice 18 degrees.
Well this was certainly a challenge for me today to make the last stretch up to the top but I took my time, took no risks and eventually I got to see the amazing views from on top the 'table'. After a fruitless search wayn0 finally found the hide, thank goodness.

Last one for the day for me. I had just found my target challenge cache, but no way I'm walking all the way up this mountain and not finding the last cache!
A tricky spot, but I did manage to reach it without any dramas!
Log signing duties completed and cache replaced back as I had found it. Pretty safe from muggles there I think?
Now for the part I dread the most, and that's heading back down hill! I find that scarier than climbing up for some reason lol Big Grin

It is with great delight that I'm now an acknowledged Nutter's Knoll member. It was an effort for Gcoven and myself to get up to these lofty heights but once there the only way back down was to paraglide or surf the rock fall slope to the bottom. The SW wind today was gusting and I recon even a kite would have been enough to get me safely to the bottom. Alas no kite or paraglider so it was upto the lame shank's pony to take my sorry ass but to the bottom. Thanks for maintaining this oldie Brother Colin. It was a rewarding walk up to the table top.
