1630 GAFF1 While I have a 'nice' plastic kayak I should have mad sure I got a skirt for it as well. With waves only a metre a high it wasn't so bad, but the 2 metre swell, and having waves come from three directions made it a lot more challenging than I was expecting.
A couple of times I estimate that I had a litre of sea water washed into the canoe, and obviously if that happens one hundred times you have serious problems. GZ was actually quite sheltered, so I was able to take the required photo. Then it was time to battle the way back to shore. Had taken about half an hour out, but only 20 minutes back to shore.
Brought through for mileage: 12-12-12 Event, 3 Bros NSW, Auckland NZ'13, BEAGLE BIXBY, B 2 B Travel ingot, BROWN BEAR 15, Captain Toonz California Raisin, Christmas Joy Geocoin, Coin of Danmark, DyerMkr's Copper Triple Dragon Geocoin, Friends of The Arkaroo, Geocachers Day Geo Coin, GeoCookie Geocoin, Horace, Iconic Bridges 2012, KING KACHE, land rover, cache critters Baa, Neigh Neddy, and Oink, NZ Mega 2013 GCookie Coin, PAP, Raban, Rienan TB, steben6's DNF Duo - Super Cacher Geocoin, The Lord of the caches - Earth, Trakabulldog geocoin, VIRGINia TAG, and trackable shirts.

Got a text from DOC-WHO wondering if we would like to accompany him to do this old virtual and of course we were up to it. I have always looked at the island thinking that one day we should kayak over and look at it a bit closer. After leaving Pearl Beach at 8:00am the water was flat and hardly any wind, which was perfect for paddling. We opted for the longer way around the island and admired the beautiful sandstone cliffs the the island possesses. After the scenic route ended we saw the sign and quickly landed on the beach, took the photo and left.
From here we headed further on into Patonga and back into Pearl Beach, which all up, took us about 3 hours.
Thanks for the Virtual Tangles even though it is archived, (we couldn't come up with a reason why), it was a very much enjoyed paddle on a perfect day. Unfortunately we didn't spot any fairy penguins.

Traveled here today with the seaeagles by kayak from.Pearl Beach. Incredible sandstone colors, especially white, although it's not a color.
Once around Lion Island and onto the cache for our photo. It's been a pretty perfect day, with just a puff of breeze on the ocean and a gentle 1ft swell which only lasted a short while. This island has mystified me all my life, photos and binoculars teasing me about its up close details. And its size, how grandiose it looks from box head, umina, Ettalong and Sydney, now it seems so much smaller, but, I've been there and conquered it
Certainly a Favorite.

We stumbled across this old virtual a while back while cross checking some old logs for another cache. Today was another sunny clear day with low winds and almost no swell so on getting up early we decided today was the day given we where staying in Brisbane Waters. Out with the Kayak and off we went. A few muggle fishermen on boats near by but generally quiet. The morning sun showed up the colours of the sandstone particularly well. After taking the obligatory photo it was off to the main land to finish off a Barrel o Geo Monkeys Reloaded. TFTC
Took us a while to log this one as I had to wait for the official photographer to provide the evidence. Sunlight in the shot as we left from Palmie at dawn and paddled across so sun was just over the island as we arrived.
From there we then paddled on to Ettalong to pick up another cache before catching the ferry home.

We too paddled our boards over to this one and had our photo taken by the same photographer as the Tweenies. Great trip if your arms are up to it. Highly recommend paddling on to Pearl and Umina beaches then up to Ettalong to catch the ferry back. Thanks for the inspiration to get out there.
Well this was number 1500 and what an adventure it was! Had planned this one for a while and thought we could sail out there.
So with 7 months pregnant eba we towed the boat up the coast and headed for Patonga in the 14ft Calypso. It took a while to get started with variable winds but after a while got on a good run towards Kimba- a bit of swell and chop and we got a bit wet but the water wasn't too bad (says the skipper who was shielded by the crew).
We actually pulled up on the beach (it would have been hard to get a photo from the sailboat, got the shots and returned to Patonga which was quite a good run. A great days sailing even though it was a bit overcast. A great cache and fitting one for this milestone. Thanks Tangles.

We were given a rare opportunity to board a vessel with Feral Five at the wheel so this cache had to be on the to do list.
Partially cause Webguy wouldn't have it any other way.
Nice place for a virtual perhaps one day we'll even have a permit to go ashore and check it out for ourselves.
Thanks for bringing us here.

Cruising past on a mates boat heading up to Hardys Bay for lunch, diverted past the island to get this shot with the crew to claim the cache.
Found it with the flying bean team. Thanks for a lovely day out.
Had a new experience. We waited for someone else to launch the boat for us. Kinda make you feel redundant. It appears as a lot of people go fishing this way. Wow

I crossed Broken Bay on a cruise around the waterways and photographed the island from all sides.
The boat crew called the sign "the biggest bit of pollution on the island"

Spent a few days less than a mile off contemplating this place, but my find was disallowed by owner due to catastrophic camera breakdown.
Good fishing though...

Time to rid cob webs from the boat
Time to start her up
And get her afloat
A trip to the Pittwater Iles
Order of the day
And add to the Geocaching files
The sign was found

Picnic bound
I like an alternate mission
Instead of using the boat
For divin’ and fishin’
OUR 100th CACHE WHOOOHOO
Finally the wind and tides were suitable for us to do this cache on a trip from Brisbane Water to Pittwater in our yacht.
Have been past the island many times before but never quite so close - generally been rounding West Head or heading for Little Box Head.
Looks like a great place to have a picnic - if only you could land. We did not see any penguins this time by often we do.

Not a real bad day today. Dropped in on the way from Brooklyn to a 50th birthday party at Church Point. Wish it was our boat (wish we had the money to run it). Sign is in the background.
Appologies for the sun in the 'photographic proof' did the best we could!
Bummer your not permitted to land on the island without a permit - would be great to look around and walk up to the northern end where the old bunkers are built into the cliff.
Thanks Tangles.

First find of the day on a boating/caching mission with Paradoxgeo. Great spot would love to have been able to come on shore, oh well. Great idea for a cache.
Well, about bloody time I managed to nail this one, I spend enough time on the water in the region. Today had the makings of your classic mucked up day on the water. It all started with forgeting to get the bait out of the freezer, so I doubled back(I hadn't even left Richmond and the day was off to a good start) and collected the bait. I had misjudged the amount of traffic at OMG'clock. Then the only servo I could pull up at to check tyre pressures at was Kellyville. I finally get to Brooklyn, time to do a quick cache before hitting the water... my mistake I didn't have a printout or pda with me, so I didn't know that I needed a pen. Get to the boat ramp and I get distracted by a fellow who has managed to drop the wheel of his new sedan off the concrete boat ramp and onto the sand and is now bogged. He askes for a tow out, to which I agree, but only after I launch the boat and drop off the trailer. I remember just as the boat starts down the runners on the trailer that I haven't fitted the bung. Crash stop, pull the trailer up out of the water and fit bung, launch boat, remove trailer, recover car.. so far the day is "interesting". I get to start the boatmotor, so far so good... Head downstream towards Kimba round the corner to see whitecaps on the horizon, So I take it steady, and get out to Lion Island nice and safe, take the required pics and head back for a nice relaxing day of wetting a bait and waiting for something to take it. Now here it starts to get interesting again.
I land a 30cm Argyrosomus japonicus, which I immediately throw back. I retrevied one bait to find a small Heterodontus portusjacksoni maulling it. It releases the bait before getting to the boat. Then a reel screams out, in my haste to apply a stopping force I yank the rod up and the rodholder that was holding it decides that it wants to rest on the bottom of the bay.... hmmm the day just went back down the tubes... after grumbling to the fishing gods, I go to up anchor, now I had looked at the anchor rope the day before and decided to replace it after today's outing. Can you guess what happened next? That's right I didn't even get the anchor off the bottom.. the rope snapped. So now instead of sitting at the prime Argyrosomus japonicus spots I have to resort drifting for the rest of the day... not really a major problem.. A couple of hours drifting later I get the urge to go fish Jerusalem Bay. I quickly settle into a routine of launch baits one, two, three, and have a bite to eat. Phone goes off, It's Mrs Gecko, just making sure I am ok.. I have to hang up on her as I spot a twitch on a rod. a few minutes later a nice 60cm Platycephalus fuscus, straight into the keeper bag with him.. by this time I have drifted over a nice rock ledge that is visible from the surface, I spot a familiar shape and soon have two Scobinichthys granulatus in the keeper bag as well. I decide that these three fish will be enough for the day and decide to head home, That in itself is a whole other story.
So for today the tally is
Found 2 caches, one only to be logged the other will be a note.
Lost One anchor and one rod holder.
Caught 3 edible fish for the BBQ on the weekend.
Thanks Tangles for the fun day.

Called by here on the way back from fishing. It was a bit windy & choppy outside so we weren't out for to long compared to last thursday which was flat & we saw a pod of about 30 dolphins. On the way back we noticed a landslide on west head which had crushed one of the gun implacments
